  • Hi 👋 Welcome to A Day With Bec. Today I’d like to share with you something that I just discovered just recently after so many years
of living here since the early 90’s . I’m talking about the Japanese toilet. The current state of the art western-style toilet in Japan is the
Bidet toilet. These bidets are commonly called Washlets a brand name of TOTO. The features commonly found on the washlets are
anal hygiene, bidet washing, seat warmer and deadorization.
The word Toire is an abbreviated form of English language for Toilet. Another common word that is used is the Otearai meaning hand
washing. There are two styles of toilet here in Japan, the oldest type is a simple Squat Toilet, which is still common in public conveniences.
After the World War II, modern Western type flush and urinals became common.
Did you know that many Japanese women are embarrassed at the thought of being heard by others during urination? To cover the sound,
many women used to flush public toilets continuously while using them, wasting a large amount of water in the process. In the 1980’s
The Otohime (sound princess) was introduced by Toto ltd. This device produces the sound of flushing water without the need of actual
flushing. This device is now placed in most new public womens room and many older public womens room have been upgraded.
Toilet Sinks : Many toilets in Japan with a water tank includes a built-in sink. This is a simple water - saving Greywater system. Clean
municipal water is used to wash hands, then the waste water from hand washing is used to fill the tank for flushing. It is also a great
space saving feature in small bathroom.
So in Japan , the toilet and shower room are separated, this is due to the ethic in separating clean from unclean. Cleanliness is very
    important here in Japan.
Thank you for watching ! I hope you find this video informative for your next trip here in Japan. Please give this video a thumbs up 👍
