- The Maine Coon kittens are 3 weeks old and it is finally time for their big sister Freya to meet them for the first time!
Watch her take her first careful steps to the kittens and see how she reacts and what she will do in this very genuine and heartwarming meeting.

3 week old kittens are so funny. Like little drunks staggering around.
I've had many kittens growing up but I don't recall seeing them engage in fight and play at such a young age when they're still wobbling around!
I would take that last part as a good thing nor a compliment lol
This is a good example of a young cat learning about mother and kittens and seeing a glimpse of her possible future as a mom and what kittens are about. This is a very likely future mom, as she is a beautiful cat!

I really love this video. Not so much with Freya meeting the babies, but her reaction to her mother, which you can tell is a long established degree of trust and socialization well after Freya was weaned and would normally separate.
Both Freya and her mother trust each other not to cause violence, but hover and watch each other carefully just in case. Freya has a careful eye out and is both testing and trying to be respectful of whatever boundary her mother sets for these new strangers, while her mother allows those boundaries to be pushed while remaining much closer than most cats would allow to keep an eye out. It's a really interesting and delicate balancing act of straight up complex manners and social graces from them.
On top of that, thank you for not cutting Freya hissing at the kittens. Her mother not reacting to it is not a lack of attention. Hissing is a warning to back off. It sometimes leads to violence, when both cats have that intention, but it's also a social reproach for more friendly cats. Freya is hissing because she is the bigger cat exploring if she is ok with them first, and their clumsy reactions are rude. Because they are babies and dont have manners yet. Freya is teaching them socialization, which is why mom is ok with it.
Way more than highly edited fluff fodder, this is such an interesting watch to anyone who knows a bit of cat body language!

It is great to see someone understands cat language so well. It is always lovely to see these comments. I have two cats (sisters) and observe them all the time. Their world of communication is wonderful and I feel respected they love to jam with me and accepted me in their family. 🤭 haha I am so proud of how well we communicate wich is the result of never ending observation, respect and understanding from all three sides.
I appreciate you all for speaking of both of those sweeties are true honest beings that possess feelings etc. So many people try to belittle other species as if we’re the most superior but ofc we all know the arrogance of humans unfortunately 😭 but just THANK YOU✨ this thread was so wholesome

Luna looks quite comfortable with Freya meeting the kittens. Cautious but not fearful. Freya cautious but interested in the kittens. Just uncertain as to how she can interact with them. Very beautiful multi-generation family.
Freya and Luna are just so intelligent..watching the gears turn in their heads was sk interesting. Luna approving of Freya's curiosity and letting her eventually enter the pen, Freya warming up to the kittens and given them space when Luna asked...very cool
At 7:02 it looks like Luna stopped Freya from leaving the room. Freya was leaving but Luna made her stay like...."wait.....this has to happen" LOL
That mother is doing such a good job, jumping down and greeting Freya with a friendly "mrrp", walking by the kittens to let Freya know they're hers then keeping a distance to let them interact but getting inbetween sometimes to check that things are going OK. Always with a friendly "mrrp". Going in to feed the kittens and greeting Freya again with a friendly "mrrp" and some cleaning (licking).
Love how Mama keeps everyone in check during the meeting, let's Big Sis know she's being watched.

The mommy cat is even kissing the big sister, then introduced her little sisters and kisses them too! Very sweet

Some very touching moments between Luna and Freya especially when the kittens began feeding and Luna turned to nuzzle her elder daughter. As for the kittens, they aren't far off from becoming energetic little fuzzballs galloping all over! Thank you for this lovely family portrait.

Freya is trying to understand who they are, her mother shows her by first licking her and then the babies. Freya does eventually get it. I like the way mom watched Freya while she was babysitting the kittens

7:10 Such a lovely moment. Approved of by Luna to love om her siblings and the approval of "Yes, you can help me care for them." And Luna still being a mom to all in the end with Freya there to help out and give support.
This is a weirdly common behavior in cats who have the same mom where the Older Big Sister Helps out her mom with caring for the kittens. Or vise versa the mother helping her child care for her kittens is also very common. It is quite sweet.
Its the feminine nature and I love it.
House cats are one of the few social cat species. Unrelated cats will watch each other's kittens when the other goes off to hunt. Sometimes even the males will rarely but they are very social likely due to domesticating themselves. African wild cats are fairly solitary but the females will form groups on occasion. Domestic cats turn this up a notch by forming a more permanent group.
Freya, so funny! Every time a kitten approached head on, she beat a retreat. Along the lines of, “wait, wait, I’m still sniffing and checking you out, I’m not ready for a whole chat”! So nice when she finally decided it was ok to just get in the box. After seeing her mostly with Buster and Caesar lately, it was a surprise how huge she looks compared to the kittens. And, isn’t she now just a bit older than Luna was when Freya was born? Can hardly wait for them to start biting her tail. 🇨🇦💕
Freya is about 8.5 months old. Luna had Freya when she was 16 months, so she was much older 🙂
Which also shows that Freya is not only going to be an extremely beautiful Maine Coon but an extremely beautiful and large Maine coon for a lady cat. Can't wait to see. Though her momma will always be special for me because she looks so much like my Weskit Babies. Lol
Your cats are very well mannered! I love that she wasn’t even a little bit angry or offended, just surprised unlike most new encounters. All my cats were furious even after much exposure therapy and smell introduction. All cats are different, but I can tell you raised yours well

All the cats were pretty but Freya was gorgeous. Their ear tufts are adorable. It was lovely to see Freya grooming and starting to play with the tiny tots. In about 2-3 weeks it will be a madhouse!
Watching this video is time well spent. The mother cat is observing what her older daughter is doing and she trusts her. And the she is licking her babies and then her older daughter, too. What a loving mother!
When the time is right, I think Mama Luna needs a spa day

Yep, I think Aurora is gonna be an escape artist just like Freya. Neither of the boys looked very interested in getting out or even looking out much, but Aurora was. Freya seemed to know she was supposed to do something with them, she just wasn't sure what. Good first meeting. Luna seemed pretty relaxed and Freya just wasn't completely sure about what those things were. Funny expressions on her face. Thanks for sharing with us.
Luna senses Freya won’t hurt the kittens. When she chirped and trilled at Freya and licked her that was so cute! That’s still her big baby who just wants to play with her new siblings!

Oh my goodness, the way Freya came through the doorway so tentatively is just precious. She only entered after mom Luna made sure everything was kosher, and even then she approached with such gentle trepidation that my heart melted. Female Maine Coons are angelic, male Maine Coons are big lovable clowns. ❤😻🩷💜

Cats are a very social animal. Nursing mothers will babysit each other's kits and even nurse them. I have watched this done with cats I was fostering.
And Aunties and Uncles both will groom them and teach them to Cat.
We can't understand what the cats are saying to each other but communication is wonderful
That was a fabulous video! Curious Freya was on her best behavior and Luna was exceptional in introducing her to the kittens. She made sure Freya felt she was included and still loved.

Mama is busy between the new kittens and her eldest daughter😻, she has time for all of them. She is a real, proper mom and an example for humans 🥰. Cats are amazing creatures, beautiful soul, still a mystery for me. I have 3 cats and they are a world for me❤️❤️❤️

It’s so cool to see how much cats (animals in general) rely on scent to really know and distinguish each other. As I’ve gotten older and have had more than a couple cats for their whole life I have become very aware of the scent factor. That’s what all the licking is about. We have Maine Coons and you have a sweet family there.❤️

Cats are amazing in short, miss my own deeply. Watched this and I am as adored by the interaction by these graceful and powerful cats as I am how little they care about the caretaker filming this intimate moment. The word is trust and that is an amazing thing to receive from these predators. They are the falcons, the eagles and the owls of the runners❤

I have a Freyja!! 😊 She's a very fluffy, adorable little Tortie. I adopted her and her sister a year ago, after I lost my 22.5 yr old Miss Shadow to squamous cell cancer 😢
I almost spelled her name without the 'j', but changed my mind at the last minute, and stuck with the 'Nordic goddess' (who rode a chariot, pulled by cats!)..spelling instead. Her sister is a BEAUTIFUL little Bombay, I named Phoebe.
They were temporarily named Mandarin & Lychee, in foster care, but weren't there long enough to learn their names.. so I changed them.

All of this was such a wonderful thing to see. Freya was respectful and calm, waiting until Luna gave her the okay. And then mom also started cleaning Freya as a way to soothe her but also to show her kittens that she's family
