I know this is a couple years old. But I'm hoping you can help... my emissions light just came on and I need to go through DMV and I can't do so without my emissions. My son is a mechanic but has never worked on this type of vehicle, LOL.....love the car tho!
I've had my 2000 Mercury grand marquis limited edition for 21 years, has 221,000 miles. It's been my daily driver all these years. I've had to do a few repairs over the years nothing major. Funny you mentioned air suspension my went out the other month, after 21 year I can't complain. It's been a really good car for me. I'm 61 year old now.
Thank you for sharing. I don't have my Marquis anymore but I really enjoyed it. Made me want to get a Lincoln town car haha. I hope you get that suspension serviced and not be riding around in a lowrider. Thanks for watching
I've got a 2000 LS myself. It has 147K on the clock and, so far, has never failed me except for needing to replace the fuel pump at 130K and the airbox next week - the stock one is bowing out, so it no longer seals. I'm putting in. 2009 P71 airbox because it's larger and designed so it CAN'T bow out, but that means soldering in a new MAF sensor pigtail and reprogramming the PCM. Other than that... I've got some bodywork and interior issues to fix. Best car I've ever owned. It's smooth, comfortable and effortless to drive. My next adventure is driving it across the nation. BTW, by your description of the "Ultimate"package, I've got everything on your list but the digital speedo. ABS, traction control, cassette deck and 6-CD changer in the trunk. I've got a LOT of cassettes still, so as much as I enjoy the CD changer, my favorite part of the stereo system is the cassette deck DOES NOT eat tapes. The tape I was playing in it today is 36 years old, and still sounds like I bought it yesterday. This car is sublime.
About a month ago I bought a 2002 Grand Marquis with a gash on the passenger side door at an auction via absentee bid for just $400 . Car drives great once I replaced the shocks. They're very reliable and can get good gas mileage on the highway. I used to own a 99 years ago and I really missed it. At idle it runs so smooth you cannot even feel it in the car. I'm hoping to do the spark plugs soon along with a coolant change out.
Alright so I have a 2000 LS model. Some LS models that were sport equipped served as a pre Marauder, just shy of 260 HP. The HPP is kind of rare because Mercury never gave out the real numbers for 1999-2000. I have one and so far its lovely all around. 2003 LS models are more common compared to the Early LS models. The Pre Marauder 2000 lacks the ability to be modified with super chargers or turbo chargers. Unless you choose to rig it like that. Though its not meant for racing, it can still puff up huge smoke just being floored. Its fun to drive, just remember it lacks any TCS or ABS. So just be careful what you do. Unlike modern sports cars, this thing is ALL metal and was built for a group of people (old) who spent their life driving cars that didnt have any TCS, ABS or special stuff. When you drive this car, it feels like a modern 1950-70s car. Heavy as hell but its got a kick in third gear. For cruising, let the ECU handle the gears. With only four gears, it doesnt need to launch into speed. With the HPP youll find it handle great and will make you feel like a stock car on a turn. I never had a issue with steering because it literally doesn't need to have good handling when its weight makes it stable Personally my description of this car. Its a luxury Johnny Law with a four speed auto that would make a Mustang Mach 1 proud. Its as heavy as a F-150 and can pull just as much. What it makes up in cushy luxury that would make a BMW green, it makes most modern cars blush with its dino slopping 4.6 L V8. Its all American and it knows it.
I've owned my 2000 Grand Marquis since the get go. It was in excellent condition until my ex tore down my carport and it was exposed to the weather since. I have under, that's right UNDER 71,000 miles on it. It's now suffering from the salt air where I live. Needs some maintenance, headlights have fogged over big time, the hubcaps are stained from the brakes, a problem this year car had if you couldn't wash it regularly, the electronics for the seat need some fixing up, but I will never sell it! It's been a great car since I bought it new. I'm a short person but have no trouble seeing over the steering wheel. My whole neighborhood had them at one point. We ranged in ages and sizes. Only one had adjustable pedals, not mine. We would have been the perfect commercial for this car! :)
I'm going this afternoon to get my 2000 Mercury grand marquis LS Sedan 4D with 100450 miles for only $1300!!! Everything is fine except for sun fade. Red,my favorite colour also lol...I'll eventually get a new paint job because these cars will last quit awhile. A little bit of a gas hog but worth it considering how inexpensive repair costs are. The maintenance has been kept up so I'll keep it up and hopefully never have to by another car again! Thanks for a great video.
I'm thrilled to hear that the review has piqued your interest in the Grand Marquis! It really is a classic beauty with a lot of charm. If you decide to get one, you'll be getting a car known for its comfort and durability. Thanks for watching!
This is a beauty! I want to get one as my second vehicle.. I had a 1999 and the two things scared me (my first car) the front lights going out ( some unit under the ac needed to be changed) then some ac condenser going out... and finally the intake manifold change... but when they did the work they did not replace my 100k spark plugs and they shot out and pieces went into my engine.. I was so sad. But now that I know those things I will know what to fix or see if its been fixed, but I want it back, that tells you its a great car.. So comfy!! Im looking online now for one! Love this one with those wheels because they are not hub caps.. Your car got me excited hahah.. thanks for sharing..
If you want the 5 digit code for the keypad on the driver door, there should be a sticker behind the driver door panel, on the control module, (the black box with a bunch of wires coming out of it), or on the trunk hinge. Otherwise, you'll have to pay a Ford dealer a half hour labor to pull the code with the factory IDS scan tool.
If you want more tips like this for your Panther Platform (Ford Crown Vic, Mercury Grand Marquis, Lincoln town Car) Check out the channels I'm subscribed to. I have a few videos, but they're pretty terrible. Chuck
I'm hooked too. I found a 02 LS looks same as yours. No sway bar on mine and no air suspension, single exhaust, but has every other feature including adjustable brake and gas pedal.
Open up your trunk and look at the lid on the drivers side. You'll see a sticker about 3/4" by 1 1/2" with five numbers on it. That's your door code. You could also pull off the door panel and you'll see a black box towards the bottom front with the code on that too. I own a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis Montigua myself. (Basically the same as what you have) Lovely car.
GREAT content...i am about to buy a 1998 w 95k from an older couple and found your video...will read your article...thanks for the effort...love the heart dude. if i get her, i will be looking to ask you about changing fluids...u know when u get your new car u want to change all fluids and get it as perfect as it can be...
I know this video is old but if you open the trunk and look on the bar sides holding the trunk you will see the code for the keypad. Check the left side of the trunk when it’s up.
Not only can you use lowest octane, but if you use anything higher it will mess up your engine, as it was designed for the lowest octane. After buying this car when I thought it couldn’t get any better I googled what kind of gas because, every vehicle I purchased in the last 20 years says it’s supposed to be premium, and sure enough LOL. Can these cars get any better!?
Had my Grand Marquis 2001 Dyno at 235 horsepower with dual exhaust. The Car does not like breaking traction and it will light up the dash like a christmas tree.
The $855 handling package includes a completely retuned suspension with rear air shocks, an enormous rear stabilizer bar, a 3.27:1 axle ratio, the dual-exhaust, 16-inch wheels, and Goodyear high-speed tires. I love the Grand Marquis! Thank you for sharing. You should get yourself a Lincoln Town Car. 2006 or newer. You would love it. Same chassis as the marquis
I think the word that you were trying to find wasn't "poor" to refer the fact that not all the people can afford such amount of money in gasoline, there are many options at our region (Mexico), quite similar to the US that not necessarily are saving cost in fuel, however, the main reason why the people look for small engines is more related to the efficient and saving cost maintenance. This kind of beauties like the Grand Marquis were incredible popular in Mexico back in the '90s when we haven't had any other hi end car options such as Mercedes, BMW, Audi or any other that nowadays, we do have a bunch.

If you know about the Mercury Grand Marquis and can share helpful information on upkeep, please like, share and comment.
I have a 2002 . Runs beautifully. The best part is that at 65 to 70, it seems to run on nothing. The gas lasts and lasts...😀
