Love that you’re a collector who genuinely loves the stories and the hobby itself. Glad that you’re NOT one of those speculators who doesn’t read the comics, only buys slabbed books, snubs any comics below a 9.8 grade, and just ‘casually’ drops hundreds to a few thousand dollars on ‘key’ comics because THAT is just not the norm for most of us comics readers and collectors. Loving the pick ups. Always brings a smile to see comics I once owned as a kid before selling them to move from the East Coast to the West Coast.
I love that there's so many aspects to collecting. I actually just got a 8.0 slabbed Batman book because I genuinely like the story and cover art. Could care less about getting a 9.8. I don't buy books with characters and stories I don't care about 🤷♀️
I think the only people in the hobby I am not fan of is the speculators, they don’t care about the paper between the plastics, just the paper they can get for selling it. The speculators are just there to cut off a portion of profit from transactions that likely would occur anyways. Honestly if someone collects for the purpose of collecting and not reading I am fine with that, they are just a different kind of collector and not a consumer of the media.
Because of this channel I bought my first comic book (at 41 years old!) It's not really a book per se but the graphic novel for Secret Invasion. I love how the books presented in hardback and I much prefer having all the books of the story combined into one.
The "wifey eye roll" has been known to make its presence known more than a few times in our home. Thankfully it's swift and over before it can have a lasting impact on my collecting mission
You are so lucky! Here on the west coast (Seattle Area) we don't have a lot of flea markets or comic shows. We have the toy fair at the Puyallup fair grounds once a year and Comi-con in Seattle, which is sooooo expensive just to get in. Keep up your great videos!!
Love Claremont as well. Not sure if you saw, but I think he’s going to be at at Terrificon at Mohegan Sun this year. I typically pass at signature events but I may have to get to this one.

I picked up Firestorm #1, Captain America #133, some Frank Miller Daredevils I needed, plus a bunch of stuff from the dollar bins too. Also got my first 2 golden age books, Joe Polooka #31 & #32, just because!
Nice haul. I enjoy going to Cliffs once a month. I’m working on the John Byrne Fantastic Four run. Almost finished and starting to get the Kree Skull war run in Avengers. I know about the eye roll. When I talk to my wife I usually say at the end insert eye roll here lol

I was pleased to see pulp magazines on some of the tables, many comics collectors I know also collect or are interested in pulps (and famous Golden and Silver Age creators like Gardner Fox and Julius Schwartz moved from the SF pulps to comics). Based on your wife's reaction to Alf #1, whatever you do, do not show her the cover of Alf #48 (check online to see why). Favourite cover from your purchases: Uncanny X-Men #184, awesome art complemented by such intense colours. At conventions I always try to stay until the last couple of hours as that's when dealers are packing up and many offer great discounts so they don't have to take so many comics back to the store or warehouse. Mike, you're nearly at 4000 subscribers, congratulations!
Yes, I will never show her Alf 48! Unfortunate, I’m always at comic shows early so I haven’t had a chance for packing up deals, I’ll have to make a point to do that in the future.
I have to say ALF #1 is my favorite one you picked up. I had an ALF stuffed animal and watched the show. I get the eye roll from my son when I pick up issues of ALF. My wife quit with the eye roll and ignores me completely when it comes to my nostalgic Comics.
Love ALF Mike, but my favourite is the Thor book with one of the greatest villains ever, Juggernaut. Followed by the xmen with Dr doom and Arcade, check out the new Murderworld series featuring Arcade, looks pretty cool.

Most of the prices are just starting points and they expect to negotiate down, but it really depends on the vendor. And yes Darkhawk and Sleepwalker take me back every time!
great pickups, man! im trying to get that Secret Wars (1st beyonder cameo) too. recently saw an old series on him with multiple spidermans from alternate universes who came together.
I sold Secret Wars series end 2021 for a ridiculous price (€500,=) thinking to buy them again when prices are down, but I found out I only like the covers and dont care for the interior art so much.. And I do not have enough room for all the other great covers I have in my comic room, so I will not buy again. Nr 1 is tempting though :), especially so cheap..
As I think I said before, I love the Secret Wars series - got me into the addiction, er.. collecting hero comics. On a different note, have you run across a copy of Alf #48? Might have to break a bigger piggy bank to get it, lol.
Completing my run of New Mutants locally was the end of my grail run and it helped me change my collection focus to key books until I figure out what series to collect next.

Alf #1 is definitely a cool book, but Alf #48 is the big money one if you find it out in the wild. Also, if you are looking for places to visit during the winter months... there is an indoor Flea Market in Sturbridge called Sturbridge Flea Market which is a decent sized place and they have a few vendors with comic books for sale (possibly some of the same who sell in the Palmer Flea Market).
Yes! I’m always on the lookout for that Alf cover and I’ve been to the Sturbridge flea markets a few times. I actually have a few books from there I can never quite fit into a video so I want to go back soon and get some more footage. Thanks!

I almost forgot that there is another Comic Book Shop in Westboro on Rt 9 called the Hall of Comics. The owners are very nice and talkative and some neat innovative ways to sell key books including running a live claim stream from their Facebook page 3 Mondays a month. Definitely worth a stop!!
Forge is back in the X-men A lot, he’s on the X-men team lead by Cyclops and also in X-force currently …… probably because Beast is now a fat one eyed cartoon evil villain, that put a naked wolverine in a hole in the dirt and used him as his black ops murder Slave.
Problem with the 50% off sales is that it’s often jacked up prices so they can provide a small discount. If some of these books were always that price, I don’t know how they would ever sell. Example: Robin #1 at $15 is way way too much, the discount brings it down to overpriced high grade raw.
It’s true, but sometimes as the market goes down the sellers don’t want to reprice everything so they throw the discount to save themselves the work. So I like to read those big discounts as market corrections.
I’m going to assume the books you went back for and couldn’t find were X-Men books😂? Using Lunch Money to buy X-Men books has to be tough…..until this upload. Good pick ups for the price you paid!

It’s a recon first appearance and a lot of people don’t accept it as a first appearance because she isn’t named and there is no indication she’s Colossus’ sister. So while many people cite that, for me personally it isn’t her (when though GSX1 is my favorite comic book!)
Man that's a great price on that Secret Wars #1, I was happy snagging a decently high grade one the other day for $50. Conversely that first Taskmaster book was laughable. I just got a 8/8.5 for the same price. Stuff is out there, just gotta look. Great pickups!

Conventions are places where you can pick up stuff that's cheaper but i think i got ripped off at a comic shop specifically issue 145 of the uncanny xmen.
But I would have bought FF 72 CGC 7.5 for half price..., that was really cheap... and then would have cracked the case to enjoy the book .. why would I want a case ?

You said that you shoot your afterwards at night when your family is in bed... but I've noticed your son in a few of your episodes and a few of your afterwards also. When did you shoot these? PS, I enjoy the father son dynamic with collecting comics and would like to see more of it in the future.
Ah, for those ones I just shoot right after we get home. Not all my filming is done late, but I usually don’t like doing it when I could be doing something else with the family.

Actually it's the other way around. There are more copies of SW1 with the Blue Galactus than the correct colored version.

Yeah I don’t know what was up with that, maybe a special variant? Otherwise not sure where that price comes from, a normal copy isn’t any where near that at a 9.8
