I’m from Oklahoma and we don’t have shows like that around here. I’m used to smaller shows. I went to one in my town last weekend, it cost 10.00 to get in. I was helping a friend run his booth so I had a vendor pass to get in. I enjoyed the show, I got to look around and found a few books I’ve been looking for. I spent 30.00 the whole time I was there. I didn’t see any slabs, which is ok. I haven’t started on them yet. I wouldn’t have enjoyed myself at the show you visited on your video. But, thanks for sharing…I can see what bigger shows are like and thanks for explaining what kind of sellers to look out for. Your videos are always so helpful!
I respect how you're one of the few comic collectors on TH-cam to actually call out how scummy and predatory some of the dealers/collectors and shops are. I know it's a business to some but it's got to a point were people dont even read comics they just hunt for the top 10 spec books they can flip to noobs for a jacked up price. This channel is great💯
So funny I just watched this & I asked the guy the same question about the Fantastic Four #1 reprint last year in July at the Gen City Comic Con in Dayton Ohio lol My heart skipped a beat for a minute when I first saw it
I had a seller tell me one time that the reason he has certain books almost double the market price is because they are his personal collection and don't want to sell. He just has them there for an eye catcher. If someone is willing to pay that's fine he will just buy another for his PC
I went recently to the Springfield, Ma comic con but the vendor dealers prices were triple of guide and market I did you what you did looked around but found the prices to be crazy I purchases around 100 books mostly to flip made $150 profit. I was happy but disappointed that I couldn't find my key books at a decent price.
Thankyou for being so welcoming to newest fans and collectors And now gatekeeping stuff It’s very cool of you to shoutout stores and vendors that have good deals
Careful with the PGX golden age books. They’re often some what restores. Not always but just be careful. But dang you got such a good deal on those three
Those are some good pickups. I definitely want to start picking up those Red Sonja keys, she's just a character I have always loved and I even like the movie they did in the 80's. The TOS 52 is an awesome book.
This is precisely why with my next convention I'm selling at, I stick by the $1 Regular Covers and $2 Variant Covers and everything else does have a price tag on it following FMV from CP, but willing to negotiate or next up to 30% off a priced book.
Good to see other West Virginia people still collecting. Glad to see my brother Bob Barker in the mix. I’m a collector myself which used to live in West Virginia now live in North Carolina
Nice books. I honestly don't see Conventions lasting much longer if they can't have better deals than online. Why go to a convention, spend money on tickets, and smell peoples B.O, when you can get the book you want for cheaper online??
I sold a FF older book to a dealer. He got it graded. Came back a 7.0 even though it was more like a 5.0. The book was worth 350 in a 7.0 grade. He priced it in his shop for 2250. Im not kidding.
I know the guy who's booth you went to at the beginning of the video with the Washington jersey on for the issue of Avengers with the Black knight 1st appearance, he's a real good guy, I've been buying from him for almost a decade.
Wonder why dealers stuff the boxes so tight you cant even thumb through the books. My strategy is i have 3-5 books i want raw or cgc and i make a short list of the fmv and do a walthrough and see who is close on the price etc.
Appreciate you showing what a lot of us go through at comic book conventions, especially the overpriced vendors - I always skip them. Also fun watching the digging for golden age slabs, I've never bought a slab, but it's cool seeing what higher-end collectors look for.
Great video! I'm with you on the vendors who have books poking halfway out the box. Hate that! Makes it too difficult to dig and respect their setup. Was set to go to this show until I ended up having to work. Getting a sense of the show from the Sticky cam is the next best thing. Seems like there were deals to be had if you put in a little work, so maybe next year. You checking out the Virginia Vintage show in a couple weeks?
Wooooo, if I would have paid $40 to get in there, I’d be pretty upset. At least it’s not crowded though, so that’s kinda nice. I feel like for $40 they need to give you a soft pretzel with spicy mustard and a beer, or at least some mint chocolate chip ice cream with a Belgian waffle… 🤷♂️ Seems like that one booth is solid for golden age collectors, but that’s not me. Maybe the assumption should be that if the ticket prices are absurd, the prices past the gate will be as well. What do you call it when you spend $500 for a booth at a con, but can’t sell anything because your prices are too high? “The wait and bleed.”
Diving into your older videos since you're not making videos at the moment, and i gotta say man, i really like watching these videos Daniel. Made me more of a fan and less of a guy who's just tuning in for the drama. Great video. Hope you're well
What was the rough grade on that Jimmy Olsen? Looked nice. $300 U.S. is about $400 Cdn. Just picked up a copy which was graded around a 4.0 (VG) for $150 Cdn. That's about $110 U.S. Congrats on your pick ups.
Now that you’ve got that Tales from the Crypt, I heartily encourage you to pick up the reprint version from the ‘90s (which is numbered issue 28) and read that sweet, sweet pre-Code goodness. As with most EC comics, this one’s got four stories. In this case all four were written by Carl Wessler, who came aboard at the tail end of the New Trend era. The artwork is by Jack Davis, Reed Crandall, Jack Kamen and Graham Ingels. I re-read ‘em today. None of the stories are super noteworthy but they’re all fun, with good set-ups and last-moment plot twists, an EC hallmark.
Yup, there are multi-issue hardcover and softcover EC reprint volumes available. If you want to really get familiar with Tales from the Crypt material, those are a good option. (I own a bunch of the oversized box sets that reproduce the stories in black-and-white.) For individual issues, the 1990s Gemstone single-issue reprints are the most affordable format.
Ya I prefer raw books as well. But up to honest sometimes comics need maintenance, the slabs make that all but impossible. But on the upside the CGC does it’s job ( well 97% of the time) to make cheating harder, no one wants to pay these prices and get taken.😓
Are you allowed at cons to ask when you see a book price so high over market price how much they are into that book or is it rude to ask if they over pay
Great show thanks me too just starting to get into golden age buying fewer comics cos expensive but all othersagesdon’t hold the attraction trying to concentrate on significant covers Soti etc but when you get the bug it bites ps does this mean I’m a homosapien ?❤
I can't mess with cons...if I do go I usually shop out of the 1 dollar/ 2 dollar boxes. I get all my keys off line...it's cheaper, I get these booths have to make a profit and they spend a fortune to rent the space and hell you probably paid to get in...BUT, NO I am not paying these over inflated prices.
You obviously haven't been to a show with my friend Gene Carpenter "All-American Comics", as his display and stock would make you faint...all in raw, as he hates slabbed books!
He does shows all over the US, from Oklahoma to Florida and up through Philadelphia and Jersey. 50-55 shows a year, mostly smaller comic cons and not filled with popular culture material. He doesn't do anything online or through eBay, and as I said, he doesn't sell any slabbed books. @@Stickygoose
40$?! They're making money off each vendor table plus a percentage of sales i imagine. Should a cool 20$ man, id want to price everything cheap just to" get it gone" . Lugging that all the way home
Like your channel but I have to say with regards to your opinions on dealers prices on different books.....Who cares what they are asking ? just go to the next booth! Who knows what they have into it or what they paid for it...That's the nature of any business and make no mistake it is a business when you are paying upwards of a $1000.00 for 1 or 2 days.
Since it seems you want comics for bargain basement prices, perhaps, events like this aren't for you. As a collector, if I find a rare book I am looking for, pretty much happy to pay whatever I need to. Especially, given that I have no future intensions whatsoever of wanting to sell any comics.
I dont know but if i over heard someone about to pay 500$ for a 100$ book for example im gonna speak up so im not sure how bad the guy was getting bent over but if it was bad enough you should of spoke up

All those vendors seemed really over priced but you got some good deals on books. I am not buying any comics right now cause I am saving up to get my TMNT#1 by this Dec and next year going after X-Men#1 1963, Amazing Fantasy#15,Batman#1 1940, Hulk#181 and Cerebus#1 and then my comic book collection is complete and might just pick up cheap key books.

The problem with Hulk and the MCU, is Universal studios. They hold some percentage of Hulk’s movie rights.
