      Rendering entire kingdom into barren wasteland is bad, but I'd say Karsus' Avatar is still more dangerous if it were ever successful.
      I guess the real reason is that no one has been able to prove the spell was cast or it was on purpose, so, they kill people to cover up, not to actually prevent anyone from casting something as destructive?

    • @ArcaneFuror
      @ArcaneFuror 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@themurmeli88 I think a name like killing storm is something completely absolute. Instead of reverting everything like the previous spells have mentioned. I think killing storm absolutely demolishes everything affected by it. Every fortress, every animal, every plant, every person, every *soul*. Destroyed, not dead, but obliterated. No afterlife, no past, no present, no future. Removed from existence entirely. Perhaps only remembered by those who casted the spell or were at the ritual site. Perhaps the souls of the elven high mages who died performing the ritual were reminded of it in their reincarnation, and founded the inquisition upon realizing the effects they sired in their previous lives.

      @@peachyjam9440 In other spells, you can at least imagine a way this could work. For a fireball, you create smth explosive, and here you go. For haste, you fasten the work of muscles (I don't know, double the number of electric impulses). However, these spells are so convoluted that the spellcasters can't control it. This spell that returns everything where they belong, for example, makes no sense. Do the debris fly away and go back to the dirt, which means the whole world knows when elves leave one of their cities? Do they get teleported, which means the height of the earth changes? And what if another tree grew wherebthe original tree was? All in all, carrying out such a ridiculous effect as "everything goes back where it belong" can only be explained by "it's magic and I don't know how to explain, so consider it works"

    • @ElrohillLW
      @ElrohillLW 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @Lamodrick Foster to be specific, not the Dark Elves was the ones, but Avariels + true green (wild) elves + sea elves was the first ones who came to Toril during first wave of migration. They totally lost to dragons, and when the second wave of elves came - the Dark Elves leaded the way. And yes because of the Gold Elves who was destroying leftover opposition in Feywind. And the truth is this that not only Dark Elves was the ones who bring the Dragon Empires to dust. In that time the second wave of elven migration to Toril was already ended, and all other major elven races was subjected to Dragons, slowly forging the rebellion. But I found nothing which exactly race (propably those high mages ware from dark, gold, moon and green elves altogether) performed DracolichMythal ritual. But together with first appearing of King Killer Star - all elves rises up against the Dragons.
      But true is that - the Dark Elven high mages ware so powerfull, that Killing Storm was a necessary pre-emeptive attack. If it was not so strong there was suspicion that those who would survive was able to do the same with Vyshan Empire. And there is also one wrong information - it was the Dark Elves who was the first ones to use High Magic against other elves during the war (by accident destroying the sea elves realm).
      You're right about cutting the rotten limb to save all seldarine body. But Correllon was able to banish only those who accepted Lolth (and her dark powers) - and he chooses to banish all dark elves only because they ware always the opposition to Gold ones. From the other side: Punishing only Vyshaan royal blood was not enough, because the root of the problem (Gold elves self-thinking superriority above other elven races). Some kind of "fixin" this was cration of MoonBlades, as the judges to the elven high born families. And the judgement shows that only 20% Gold elves of those who proceeded the test survived... And that The Crown Sword showed to be in Moon Elf family... But this is for another dispute.

    From what I read Wee jas lives on the lowest level of Acheron,
    Acheron is the realm where everything lost and forgotten eventually ends up, it's basically an omniversal landfill, but importantly even memories and moments in time can end up there, frozen in ice.
    Wee Jas is said to walk the sheet of Ocanthus, the lowest level of Acheron, searching for lost memories of magical power or dying moments, so lets say a spell were to completely be forgotten, it could potentially end up there, and if so there is potential for Wee jas to find it.

Maybe some elf with the knowledge was sealed intentionally with the Donjon card from a deck of many things, creating an immortal "knowledge vault" so to speak, with secret guards and wards making their prison impossible to find.

      Not sure why you wouldn't just "binding is active while the subject of the binding exists".
      Arguably, if the binding is only active while the binding is active, then the reverse is true, and the binding ceases to be active if the binding is ever inactive. This could be a problem if the spell is able to be convinced it's not actually active.

    • @-JustHuman-

      Wouldn't a wish or time spell be able to undo it then ?, as you could simply wish the area the binding is in would be sent back in time to before the binding spell was cast. That would mean it wasn't active at that time, there by breaking it as it is yet to be active.
      Where as a binding based on something else, like a hero coming, isn't bound by the time in witch the spell is cast, as it's depended on something happening.

      Or you could claim that by simply given it a new name or destiny the former subject is no more, kinda like the never ending story. One thing becomes something new, as a bucket is no longer a bucket if I have made eye holes in it and wear it on my head, as it's now a helmet (a crappy helmet to be fair), but it isn't capable of being a bucket anymore either as it has holes in it now. I guess it depends on how the spell works, it isn't something I know much about.

Over time he grew large and powerful enough to start hunting dragons and minor deities, then even intermediate deities before he was seen as anything like a threat. Should he be set loose, it could be world changing and could shatter pantheons, I want it to feel epic in scale, not something that a dedicated party could tackle with the help of one powerful NPC or even without any NPCs at high enough level.

    I have always played that Half Elves are disliked by fullbloods because they are essentially a lost soul. The soul that resides in the Half Elf is a true Elven soul that has been reincarnated many times in an ancient lineage. Now that it inhabits a halfbood, that soul is forever lost to the Elven people and will never be reincarnated again. Essentially each Half Elf is a soul plucked from the well of Arvandor, forever leaving a dead end where all other Elvish souls continue for eternity through life and afterlife and life again forever. All of the possible future Elvish lifetimes of that particular soul are snuffed out, potentially severed bond of love or family or dooming the noble soul of a hero to utter oblivion.
    Half Elves are literally doomed souls stolen from the past and future of the Elven race, and the Elves hate them for it.

      @@ElrohillLW Remember though, that those spells aren't just tossed around by Elvenkind. You might use a Wish spell ten times in your high level campaign, but it's a world altering spell that 99.99% of people will never even hear of.
      Resurrection and Raise Dead are WAY more common than any of these other spells I've mentioned, but those are insanely rare spells in an actual D&D setting. Resurrection simply isn't an option in the D&D world unless you've got a Cadderly in your back pocket. Even heroes of legendary stature just... Die.
      To say that you could just change the halfblood's race by using High Magic is like saying Dragons are easy to kill if you simply ask a deity to smite them for you. Both scenarios are just so astronomically unlikely outside of an overpowered twink campaign that they are not really solutions at all. Elves using High Magic on a halfblood would be like Dwarves using their divine crafting inspiration to make a toothbrush for a donkey handler. Just... Not gonna happen.

You expect me to believe that no elf, half elf, or human has ever used the wish spell to learn the nature of a half elf's soul? Elves are willing to sacrifice their lives, or even their after lives, for the sake of their community. So it only makes sense that they'd also be willing to risk never being able to cast the wish spell again, if it meant educating their race on something that important. Honestly I'd set the bindings to like "The one who knows the last digit of pi must yell out the entirety of pi while not being capable of doing so."
    I mean yeah, it could probably be something nigh impossible, but not *actually* impossible, then that wouldn't be a valid binding.
    If that's the case.... It could be something like: "Only when an entity or entities capable of easily killing the imprisoned entity (like, forever forever) and have the unquenching desire to do so, will the imprisoned one be unbound and its true form teleported to where the entity to do the killing finds most convenient in the pursuit of killing the recently unbound entity.

      @clericofchaos1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Lamodrick Foster Ok but how is that any more dangerous than killing gods? I mean, the dude mentions binding the sun god which i'm guessing means the sun just goes away, which kills all life on the planet. So again, why be so hard on the killing storm over the other spells?

    • @wizen2887
      @wizen2887 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@clericofchaos1 If I'm not wrong, Lathander uses the power of the sun but isn't the sun itself. So, for example, Mystra is the goddess of the weave, she controls it and makes sure it doesn't malfunction but isn't the literal embodiment of it, that is why Karsus is able to take control of the weave away from Mystrel. So if you bind Lathander it shouldn't be a problem since he isn't the sun and only uses it's power.

    • @ElrohillLW
      @ElrohillLW 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly, there are more gods who has the sun in their portfolio also. So one Lathander will mede no difference (ok it will, but not so drastical - propably someone of his ex-arch or lesser god under him will took the place)

    RE: Half-Elves
    Could it be that a half-elf only has half the soul of an elf? like when a half-elf comes into existence half of an elf soul goes into the body and the other half just chills out in Arvandor or inhabits another half-elf? and then when the half-elf/half-elves die their soul gets reunited and goes back into the cycle?

      @Lamodrick Foster That was for specific sorcery spells and of elven *_royal_* blood. First video of this pansy elf magic series says that ANYONE can learn high magic, it's just the other races typically do not live long enough or have the patience to learn it.

      I think the ISTANT she would be imprisoned all magic would fall apart, every magic effect would dissolve and she would be free instantly.

    • @eugenides04

      I think she'd have the ability to say "no" in response to it being cast, but if she allowed it to go through, I *think* it might actually just fully delete the Weave. The instant after that happens, the spell would presumably fizzle, but I'm not sure it would matter anymore, since there would no longer be a Weave to restore once Mistra was released.

    • @eugenides04
      @eugenides04 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Chiavica The difference being that with Karsus, the Weave just went haywire due to lack of regulation until the "new" Mistra could restore it. In this scenario, I think the Weave would actually be deleted, as it's the force she has dominion over, which is erased when a deity is banished by this spell. She'd be freed an instant after the spell is cast, but I think with that instant, it'd be too late to restore the Weave from its erasure.
