    Wonderful!
    It would blow Bach's mind to know that today, 260 years after his death, he is arguably the most popular composer in human history. But during his lifetime Bach was a humble church employee, not famous or even widely traveled, and a third of his music has been lost to history.

      In his day, he was much more famous as an organist and teacher of music, while his sons were famous as composers, especially Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach,

    Großartig! 100 mal besser als die Aufnahmen der Banditen Koopman, Gardiner und ähnlichem Gelichter. Großartig auch, daß die Gemeinde den Schlußchoral am Ende gemeinsam singt!

      The Bach choir with which I once sang decades ago (I'm almost 75) always printed the Schulßchoral in the program, and the conductor turned around to lead the audience/congregation in joining the choir. We always, natürlich, sang auf deutsch. The printed chorale was bi-lingual, so we in the choir heard a wonderful mix of English and German coming back at us on stage. This emphasized the point that Bach is for everyone in any language. How many in this performance sang the chorale in Cantonese or Mandarin, or in German, or even in English (it being Hong Kong)?

      Thank you very much!! I sang more than 40 years in differnt Bach choirs in Germany and we had this NOT ONE TIME. the audience to sing along. The germans try to be so "original" and puristic, but are nothing but stupid. And the "Kanzelreden" of the germans are ONLY antichrist and antichristian hate speech.

      Typical excellence for Chinese Christians. No wonder their level of devotion/dedication scares the Communists so who blindly imagine they're as dangerous an evil as themselves. If only they could receive the message of this cantata, that I through Jesus have
      "Kräftiglich herausgerissen
      been mightily torn free
      Und mich solches lassen wissen
      and by whom I have been made to know this
      Durch dein angenehmes Wort,
      through your kindly word,
      Sei doch itzt, o Gott, mein Hort!"
      Still, especially for Bach cantatas, I by far prefer boy trebles to adults, regardless of sex, since they produce purer harmonics that blend far better with the lower voices.

      As the former East Germans learned when they reinstituted the Thomanerchor in the 1980s, Bach is the "Fifth Gospel writer". The texts and great music were the foundation upon which the overthrow of the DDR was built by the choir itself.

      Bach ist keinesfalls der "Fünfte Evangelist", sondern der Prediger des EINEN Evangeliums des dreieinigen Gottes.

    999 subscribers and I just added my subscription so now he has his 1000 sùbscribers, David can now be moneterised and so he should be, his little ensemble are trying something very difficult and it's obvious they need more practice but they are doing well and this is one of Bach's great cantatas. It's deceptively simple but is so rarely done well but we never discourage anyone from bettering their efforts.

      Dear Al Maki, fyr the congregation sang the choral translated in Cantonese. :) Since Bach is influenced by Lutherism, which advocate worship with mother tongue

    Tenor recit so difficult. Bach is bordering on Bergian chromaticism!!. But this gentleman sings it with conviction. The subsequent aria needs to have the excellent flutist credited. She executed the alternate slurs and staccatos so cleanly and precisely.

      i dream of knowing what half the shit you just said even means

    • @artygunnar
      @artygunnar 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jameslukekennedy so chromaticism means that Bach was jumping between major and minor keys in the same section, in essence at least thats difficult to do, for the flutist, the slurs means that there has to be blending of the notes so that you can not tell that there are different notes being played, while the staccatos means that there are notes that receive emphasis, so its moving from smooth playing to noted playing back and forth quickly, meaning again, its a pain in the butt!!!!

    "Das Blut, so meine Schuld durchstreicht, macht mir das Herze wieder leicht und spricht mich frei." - eine typisch lutherische Aussage, die so nicht ganz orthodox ist.

    • @composerlecturer
      @composerlecturer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What we call in English "pietistic Lutheran thought". It permeates Bach's thinking. As for being an Evangelist, it is, of course a nick-name, not a theological construct. Yet it was through his music and the texts he chose to set that many left the DDR mentality.

    • @martinmoller5591
      @martinmoller5591 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not understand what you mean!

    • @composerlecturer
      @composerlecturer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martin Möller: I said two things in one post, probably confusing. Pardon, bitte.
      1) I was responding to your comment on "Das Blut… (usw)" when I said that it was "pietistic Lutheran thought". And for a pietist it would be the sacrifice is the very heart of the very personal matter.
      2) About Bach as fifth Evangelist, you responded daß er war "der Prediger des EINEN Evangeliums des dreieinigen Gottes." And I then meant to point out that Bach is often called "der fünfte Evagelist" because his sacred works have brought many to Christ. But of course no one would use that term in a scholarly sense. Mattheus, Marcus, Lukas, u. Johannes sind die echte Evangelisten.

    • @martinmoller5591
      @martinmoller5591 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OK, now I see. IN my point of view Bach cannot be an Evangelist, since he was a lutheran heretic. This is not bagatelle. Many of his texts are good, but many are krud and very german pietistic/lutheran. I call it Verstiegenheit. It is a historical fact. that Luther led the Germans into isolation and into the situation of 1914/1933/1945. Today the protestant churches in Germany are satanism in a very pure form. They are hell.
