    In the film, Sadness is my favorite. She never had to project or anything. She remained true to herself, her emotion - whereas Joy was exaggerating the truth, always wanted the easy way out, and manipulative. Grant it, I do use my own Joy to cope most of my emotions; I depend on streaming services to escape reality and the situations I should be facing. At least I know that I need to face each of my emotions when or before it’s stretching on thin ice.

    When I first watched this movie I was 19, traveling on a 12 hour flight to a different continent for college, alone, away from my friends and family for the first time and I watched this on the plane. Needless to say, due to the loneliness isolation, *this movie utterly destroyed me.*

    It really struck me just now that all the characters in Riley's head ARE Riley. When her emotions prod and argue with each other, that's her struggling with herself. They're all aspects of her brain and personality somehow, even the little blobs that send up the jingle, sweep away memories to be forgotten, and make dreams. That includes Bing-Bong, and his act of self-sacrifice is part of her too, an aspect of her childhood brain making space for her to grow up and move forward.

    • @docbrown538
      @docbrown538 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      And it's worth noticing that Riley's parents' emotions are very organized and communicate with each other before hitting buttons/levers on the control panel. There's not as much of a power struggle between their emotions, since her parents are adults with fully developed emotional maturity. Meanwhile riley, a child, has less organized emotions who act impulsively and argue with each other a lot more.

    Sadness is my favorite. Joy to me always ignored the problem or situation going on around her. She was also manipulative with the others and did not listen much when they might actually have a good idea. She would rather listen to Reilly's imaginary friend then someone she has been around with since birth like Sadness and the shortcut situation. Granted we all need joy in our lives, but sadness is also is needed to help us deal with loses in life like the death of a loved one. There are just some things that need a different kind of healing. Loved the reaction.

    I cried a ton when Bing Bong sacrificed himself for Riley~ And because she is growing up, usually imaginary friends get foregtten~

    • @j.woodbury412

      To be honest, I could never see why people got upset when Bing Bong sacrificed himself, but then I never really thought of it representing letting go of childhood things and transitioning to adolescence and growing up. When I think of it that way, it is sad. The scenes that get me are when Joy realizes how important Sadness is, like when Riley's parents consoled her after the hockey game because of Sadness, and when Riley broke down and told her parents that she missed her friends back in Minnesota.

    This movie is a fantastic, if childish, representation of the brain. For example, short term memories convert to long term memories while we sleep, just like in the movie. They also got the stages of abstraction correct. In addition to being fairly accurate, it gives children a metaphor to explain their emotional state they may not have had before.

    When I first saw this film I was seriously annoyed with Sadness, 'til the end, I understood that every emotion was important but still a bit confused. Not until I experienced a really difficult time in my life. When it took a toll on my mental health. For the longest time, I try to shy away from being vulnerable coz people depend on me so I can't afford for anyone to see me weak. Whenever anyone asks me if anything is wrong, I'll say everything is fine. Even though I can no longer sleep at night thinking about how to fix the problems that we have.
    It was toxic positivity the same as what joy was showing here, and since we're only human, the more you try to suppress your real emotion the more it will affect you once it starts exploding coz you can't contain it anymore. Expressing her sadness coz the moment calls for it is not only a way of release but also to get empathy. Coz sometimes getting empathy, knowing someone is listening and knowing you have someone to lean on is better than getting all the praise for being soo strong esp when all you did was to try to be strong all your life so no one worries about you.
    Apologies for the long comment. Really enjoying your Pixar and Disney Reactions by the way

    It's just such a beautifully made movie. it's so emotional and it really touches you. I think it's really great for children, because it teaches them about the importance of emotional literacy and how to properly handle their emotions. It really makes you think about the importance of emotions in our lives and how they shape who we are. i think that's an important message, especially for kids to learn.

  • @XShadOBabeX
    @XShadOBabeX 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +25

    Nah most people can’t stand Joy, at least until the end, because she barrels through the other emotions and always fights for control of everything. If you don’t process all the “bad” emotions, then you never learn how to handle them in a healthy way. And eventually they’ll explode out of you in the most toxic way possible.

    • @xxmension04xx47
      @xxmension04xx47 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      I think thats the point, Joy quite literally didn't know why Sadness was there in the first place...she was the first emotion, and believed that Riley only needed to be happy, the movie shows her learning what sadness' role in riley's mind was

    I will recommend something different - Team StarKid. They are known for musical parodies of such things as Harry Potter, Star Wars, Batman, Disney (the reason I mention it in this video), and much more. Subtitles help with the not great audio and you have to be prepared for bad language and "adult" content, but their shows are so great. Think about it.

The concept is great , and it’s a really good depiction of depression for kids that age and probably in general Imo . I’m really excited for inside out 2, they said it’ll be abt Riley during her teen years and that their adding a new emotion too. It’s most likely gunna be horny, cause that’s really the only “emotion” that gets added during ur teenage years . Just their probably not gunna call it that lol. You should watch the perks of being a wallflower, it’s a great depiction of mental health and one of best depictions of modern day high schoolers imo
