I just realized, Bing Bong probably couldn’t read the “danger” sign because Riley couldn’t read yet when she imagined him up for the first time. And he wouldn’t have had any knowledge outside of what Riley knew
I never thought about that but it makes perfect sense, thank you
That makes sense
Awwww.... you're right!!
So basically he has the reading comprehension of all those kids you see on "the darndest things kids say" videos who somehow turn a simple letter into a 5 paragraph essay because they have no idea what it says. 😂
Anyone else notice the metaphor made when bing bong sacrifices himself? We've all had that one moment in childhood, where the silly, zany, nonsense of our past is lost, so that joy can go on. "Take her to the moon for me"
Love the detail that when Riley’s crying at school, none of the other kids are mean about it, they actually look worried about her, even.
yeah and the teacher validates her feelings and reassure her, its really nice
Yeah they seem nice
it’s how normal kids would react, just awkward lol
@@beyondviolet I disagree with that 😅 a lot of kids would be snickering about it
@@Shaea_QDamn, what school do people go to/used to go to? Never experienced the people in my different schools laughing at someone crying. Especially if that person is a literal stranger, lol
I don’t know if you guys noticed or not, but in that sequence when they went inside the mom and dad‘s heads, the dad’s table was headed up by anger and the mom‘s table was sadness
Another way to look at it is instead of straight sadness and anger it could be more complex such as the mom leading with empathy and the dad leading with authority.
@@Philybeef Exactly. The basic emotions map on many sub-emotions. It is part of being an adult and realist
@@Philybeef That's actually pretty interesting and I hadn't thought of it that way but it does make sense. The movie makes a point to talk about the use of different emotions so I can see how that applies to which one is "governing" as well. I guess in that case joy could be optimism or kindness? The possibilities are endless 😂
@@Philybeef I'd like to think that their "lead emotions" are just what they're feeling currently of the situation that they're in. Mom is sad about moving and dad is mostly angry.
Bing Bong was gathering the memories that the cleaners would have removed and tossed as Riley got older.
All the memories in the bag were colorful, not gray.
@@oliviarogers2808 yep - saving his favorites from being tossed when they eventually went gray as she got older
The movie does such a great job delaying the realization that sadness is essential, and that positivity at all cost is toxic.
Also extremely accurate in the fact that most of the time depression isn’t being sad, it’s being unable to feel.
Yes!!
This movie is a fantastic description of depression.
Pixar brought in two of psychology's foremost experts on emotions to serve as scientific consultants on the film. They nailed it pretty well. There's tons of papers that have been written on this movie.
Missing/Unbalanced = Disorder
All-Island Shutdown = Depression
Joy/Joy = Ecstasy
Joy/Sadness = Melancholy, Nostalgia
Joy/Disgust = Intrigue
Joy/Fear = Surprise
Joy/Anger = Righteousness
Sadness/Sadness = Despair
Sadness/Disgust = Self-Loathing
Sadness/Fear = Anxiety
Sadness/Anger = Betrayal
Disgust/Disgust = Prejudice
Disgust/Fear = Revulsion
Disgust/Anger = Loathing
Fear/Fear = Terror
Fear/Anger = Hatred
Anger/Anger = Rage
Apparently, they're making a sequel. Some of those will likely be in it.
@@howardbalaban7051 Bout time they make a second one. As an adult, I am looking forward to watching it.
@@JemJam2976 Oh 100%. Pixar's been sequel-heavy recently, but Inside Out 2 is (likely) going to be different enough to stand on its own.
I hope.
@@howardbalaban7051 puberty, what could possibly go wrong?
@@howardbalaban7051 the sequel is going to suck balls because Disney is just making absolute garbage now.
“Can we kill sadness and just make Riley a sociopath?”
😂 I’ve been snickering over that one!
Also this was my son’s favorite movie when it came out, and I appreciated it because it was the perfect movie to watch with him to explain to him, right before kindergarten, about how to recognize emotions
ETA: and to understand that it’s ok to be sad/mad/angry sometimes
I actually teared up with Bing Bong fading away. I kinda wanted a flash forward to see Riley as an adult astronaut on the moon. Then Bing Bong’s song faintly plays in the distance.
Either that or Riley grows up to become a crypto scam billionaire.
That part makes me cry everytime
I did too. I don’t think these guys understood what he symbolized. It was annoying.
Triple Dent Gum will make you smile....
Well, based on how we're getting a second movie, that may be in the plans.

Pixar, 2019: What if souls had feelings
they sure love themselves an anthropomorphic plotline
During the dinner scene, I love how we see anger punch fear because when you're angry, you don't think about the consequences which would've been triggered by fear
"Forget it, it's CloudLand" is a goof on the famous closing line of the movie Chinatown, when Jack Nicholson sees the corruption he can't solve, and is told, "Forget it, Jake, it's Chinatown."
I loved your reaction, and it's especially entertaining that you were somehow dealing with a copy of the movie with all the visuals in French, while the soundtrack remained in English.
The credits scene with the cat actually makes so much sense 🤣
The amount of hate sadness gets is insane.
Folks dont like sadness, makes sense but just like in the film, you eventually realize you need it.
I think the people who hate on sadness have never experienced depression. It's a lack of empathy because they can't relate to the struggle.
@@melodyrichardson5051 tbf, I think you're meant to dislike sadness in terms of directing. They did a good job of influencing the audience to dislike her while having the plot show why she's important to the other characters and the audience at the same time. Because emotions CAN be frustrating, I think it's interesting that they managed to personify the hostility towards them while also promoting their importance.
Ikr 😢😢 she's so unappreciated
I mean it is annoying at first.
This is probably the most mature Pixar movie as it deals with the struggles of growing up and it does it in the best way possible. We’ve all had these kinds of moments. Growing up is hard. The emotions in Riley’s head just want to do what’s best for her and each of them is perfectly cast. If there's anyone who lost faith in Pixar after Cars 2, then you should probably watch this one and Coco. Seriously, Pixar is amazing at what they do.
Cars 2 wasn't great, but it was easily the best of that franchise.
@@HobGungan big NOPE.
@@Scoutdeath572 You know what? I'll go ahead and say it: Cars 2 is underrated and overhated. I'm not a fan of the Cars franchise, but my kids are so I have to watch it a lot. And Cars 2 is the only one where I thought "I had a good time, I would willingly watch this again" every single time (Cars 3 grew on me a little, but I'm still not a huge fan, and the only Pixar films I would willingly watch the first film instead of are the second two Toy Stories)
don't forget about up
Inside Out looks at the emotional psychology of people (and more) way more in depth than ANY OTHER Disney or Pixar film out there in history...and honestly i feel the biggest crime is they have never done a sequel to this. many therapists and psychiatrists and child psychiatrists had looked at Inside Out and validated it for it's authenticity.
Honestly, at the beginning I disliked sadness and was irritated by her without even fully realizing it. It wasn’t until about the middle of the movie that the lightbulb finally went off in my head and I recognized I was doing what the majority of is are subconsciously trained to do: Deny any emotion that causes discomfort and/or pain and consistently put on a sunny, “happy” front. After that I had to acknowledge, “Touché, Pixar. Well done.”
Sadness was doing her job all along. Joy needed to shut the fuck up and let her. I was pissed at Joy gaslighting Sadness all the damn time. Also very narcissistic of Joy to just assert herself as leader. I know this is from Riley's mind, but still just because it's joy doesn't mean it's automatically a leader to follow.
Pixar: Masters of ripping out your heart through your eyes.
This movie is made for child therapy, or heck just parenting. Watch it with a kid and then start talking about what their islands are like, what their emotions are up to, etc. It basically gives us a language to talk about things that we don't know how to talk about.
“Ayoo that’s a downgrade”
“Who lost their job?” Lmaooooo Nah that had me weak 😭😭😭
Thing is, the dad moved across the Country to San Francisco in 2015, and has meetings with investors. The SCREAMS "tech start up" to me. He's probably at least a multi-millionaire by now.
Did you notice how Riley's primary controller was originally Joy, but her mom's is Sadness, and her Dad's is Anger?
Oh yeah. Makes you wonder why that is.
@@slanetroyard92 the anger for dad is probably more along the lines of authority and the sadness for mom is probably more like empathy. They’re more mature and under control than Riley’s, because obviously they would be
@@beyondviolet makes sense. Plus Riley is still growing up and hasn't figured out how to keep her emotions together. For that bus driver I suggest going to therapy and a long vacation.
"bing bong is gonna die too" "That's fine"
I hope you monsters are happy now !!!
I hope you’re happy…..
I didn't think anyone could hate Bing Bong.
same!
Long live Bing Bong!!
His rocket makes me shout hooray!
One interesting theory that I read about sadness is that her purpose is to signal to others when Riley needs help.
The multicolored orbs represent more complex emotions now that Riley is older. She's not just sad, just happy, or just angry. That's one of the aspects of this movie that I really like. A child does have basic, uncomplicated emotions but they become more complex as the child grows and has more experiences. Being scared and happy or angry and sad at the same time, for example, are just parts of life.
You guys picked up on the messages a lot more than most reactors I've seen lol well done.
Edit: Omg you guys are the only ones to acknowledge why sadness had the urge to touch things! because she was being repressed! It's like a representation of bottling up your feelings util you can't hold them back!
Bing Bong dying had me welling up. It's the death of childhood innocence
nearly everyone hates Sadness at the start of the movie. but she couldn't control herself for a reason. Riley had a reason to be sad. She moved away from the only home she ever knew, leaving all her friends behind into a place where everyone is different from where she was before. It's ok for her to be sad about that. The catastrophe was Joy's fault. Toxic positivity. Not allowing Riley to process all her emotions and forcing her to be happy. We all do it. We try to "put on a brave face" and "smile through it" hoping it will help, completely suppressing all other negative emotions, most especially sadness. But sadness is as necessary as Joy is. they all are.
Imagination doesn't disappear when you grow up. This movie was made by adults and they came up with the idea of emotions being beings by using their imagination. Sense of humor is often based on imagination. A lot of movies, including children's movies, have been made by adults with imagination. Kids themselves can create stories, but they often lack the sense. Understanding life and logic.
Writing stories and drawing comics is my hobby. So imagination is pretty important to me. :)
The casting for this movie was absolutely perfect. Amy Poehler as Joy and Lewis Black as Anger was exactly what I pictured raw emotions sounding like.
Y'all are the first reactors I have seen who weren't sad about Being Bong. You monsters! 😂
During the reaction I thought, uh oh, they are going to catch hell in the comments. LOL. Im a callous, jaded old guy and Bing Bong made me cry.
“Take her to the moon for me…” Bawling my eyes out!
As someone who has struggled with depression for half my life, this movie is the perfect representation of it
a) Riley has literally forgotten Joy when she falls into the abyss
b) Riley gets an idea in her head and her emotions can't make her feel anything (people confuse how depression is an overabundance of sadness as opposed to a lack of feeling)
c) Her personality and happy memories are fading away. The happy little girl is being forgotten.
For me, this movie is a cathartic release valve that I watch whenever I'm overwhelmed
Lewis Black as Anger.... the most perfect casting ever. 😁
For me, bing bong represented our childhood. When he sacrificed himself, it felt like our childhood imaginations and dreams that a lot of us give up as we grow older.
And as a young child we don't have as much capacity, so one emotion takes up basically all capacity. As we grow older we can hold more and more at the same time. So we can have different emotions at the same time. It also means we need much more of one emotion for it to take up all the capacity, so that is why it is much rarer when we are older.
I gotta admit, watching movies with these guys is like going to a friends place to just chill, eat snacks and critique movies/tv shows.
I've always resonated with this movie; att the time it came out, I was also 11, I have blonde hair and blue eyes, and I've moved 10 times in and out of states, so seeing this character that I could relate to so much really made its impact on me and made me feel like I wasn't alone, like I was understood (not to make things sound sad or anything)
Yes! Sadness is voiced by Phyllis from the Office! 😊🧡
I knew it was so familiar, I love The Office lol
@@OctoKrool me too! Disgust is also voiced by Kelly from the Office, Joy by Amy Poehler from Parks and Rec and Fear by Bill Hader. 🤯 such a good cast! 💛
@@OctoKrooln't waste your time on the remake. Hollywood hates male characters so much they've been actively destroying them just to replace them with a female toxic sexist misandrist twat and think that's "girl power". It's that Little Mermaid abomination all over again. Disney made up lies about the original just to make the male characters be evil and have this dumbass "girlboss" crap where Ariel being single and alone is empowering. The race swap is a problem, but it's more to it than just that. They ruined the entire story. And with The Office remake they genderswapped Michael Scott. I hated Michael Scott, so them doing this cheap ass lazy gender switch with a female is not only pathetic, but I already know what they're going to do. They're going to have men look even weaker and women be "stronger", unlikeable, sexist, toxic twats that we are going to hate and when they get our feedback they'll gaslight us as sexist to avoid accountability for their shitty writing.
@@priscillas4722Mindy sucks right now. She ruined Scooby-Doo and she's a racist bigot against white people.
Joy crying and sadness smiling.
Begs the question, 'How can emotions have emotions on top of the emotion that they literally are?'.
Yeah, I'm reading into this too much.
I truly love this movie. I suffer from depression and anxiety and my therapist asked me to watch this movie for me to understand emotions. They dont show speak about depression but ylu can see it on Bing Bong's flower pettal there is an extra emotion gray that represents depression and when the concol turns gray. One of the side effects of depression is that you can no longer feel any emotions. Good job guys
y'all are doing amazing with these reactions, for real. i'm always so impressed with this channel and the amount of videos you crank out and the quality! you always pick excellent things to react to and i'm just so happy you decided to do this movie as well :)
I appreciate those kind words a ton, a lot of the movies is picked from viewer recommendations so we don't deserve the credit all that much lol
@@OctoKrool The movie where the dog dies that Sadness refers to was probly Marley and Me with Jennifer Aniston
When Riley finally breaks after she gets home from the bus station, I lose it every time. 😭
I think they could have very easily made Bing Bong a twist villain and have him betray Joy and Sadness in order to get to HQ so he can make Riley spend all her time with him, but I am glad this did not happen. Instead he was just a very funny and heartwarming side character that decides to sacrifice himself to save his friend.
you guys should check out Cinema Therapy's reaction to this movie. they talk A LOT about how we *need* sadness in order to be ourselves.
joy all the time is a blinder to how we Need to feel to properly process what's going on around us, and leads to Toxic Positivity.
Riley Needs sadness. we all do.
Need but don't want. Sadly, lol.
I LOVE Cinema Therapy!! Their video on this movie got me interested in them and now I watch them all the time.
They definitely give questionable advice
'What funny movie has a dog dying?' They could be talking about Turner and Hooch, but they're probably talking about a film more recent to this film. How in the hell am I supposed to tell you which dog movie to watch without spoiling it for you? Watch every movie starring a dog between 2005 and 2010 - you'll hit it eventually.
I keep getting Turner and Hooch confused with K-9 starring Jim Belushi.
i just remember when he gives the dog his deathbed speech, the vet comes in like "he's fine" and the dog looks up like "that was beautiful~" 😅
According to the writers it was referring to old yeller.
@@dwarf365 I did see Old Yellar as a kid, which probably explains why I forgot it was funny. The trauma of the end is what stuck there.
@@FrancisXLord I think it was only "funny" by Sadness' terms lol
I always think of Marley & Me
I love how u guys weren’t angry at sadness like most reactors but mad at bing bong lol. U guys got the point of the movie before they even made it. Way to go!
This film reminds us all that life is bitter-sweet.
I mean everyone did amazing voice work in this, but Lewis Black was almost parodically perfect casting.
React to Who Framed Roger Rabbit movie next
The train of thought had boxes filled with facts and opinions, which Joy accidentally knocked over, and the facts and opinions got all mixed up. Nice gag there.
I immediately thought Bing Bong was the villain. Maybe he's a metaphor for looking back at childhood with cynicism.
You guys should react to the short for this one: Riley's First Date.
Bing Bong is actually sadder than sadness, trying to collect memories as he didn't matter anymore or is never thought of by Riley
and the biggest hero before he disappeared sacrificing himself for Riley, just wanting Riley to be happy...
He was part of her innocent childhood
usually I'm not for overly exaggerated youtubers/reactors, but you guys consistently keep your openings entertaining, and I enjoy it every time.
@@chay2033 To sum it up, I just meant yelling and shouting. They manage to make it funny each time.
One thing I learned in my years is that sadness tells you what’s really important in your life
Can’t wait for Inside Out 2 ❤
Not happening pal
@@letsgotomarsman might want to regoogle that one pal
@@letsgotomarsman the sequels been announced already, happened on Disney+ day.
The line about "forget it, Jake. It's cloud town" is a reference to the 1974 Roman Polanski film, Chinatown. That last line of that film is "Forget it, Jake, it's Chinatown."
Don't hate on Bing bong. All he was trying to do was capture and hold on to the memories that get lost from The Young years when he was her best friend. All those things that we just automatically forget. He got to try to remember this is the mindset of a little kid. Look at it with child like Wonder
Plus Bing Bong is from the imagination of a 4-year-old.
The reason sadness felt like sue was breaking down and touching everything is because joy was literally keeping her from doing her job so she’s suppressing sadness which always comes back out eventually and if not that sadness u don’t express can show in other ways
NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT, SADNESS LOOKED STONED OUT OF THEIR MIND.
Recommendation for you to react: ANACONDA (1997), this movie is underrated, but and good.
I’m gonna have to rewatch Inside Out again. Haven’t seen it in a long time. You guys should check out Cats Don’t Dance (1997). Underrated Animated Movie, but great.
"Finally paid for his crimes."
Lmao damn dude 😂
This might be your best intro guys! Loved it! 😄
I always feel like this is a movie anyone who works with or has kids should watch. There's such a great message about the importance of not suppressing what we perceive as 'bad' emotions, and being emotionally healthy.
I'm imagining one of the last Pixar films before the studio retires is about a late 2020 or 2030s moon base mission featuring an Astronaut Anderson. Perfect easter egg.
What about Disney Pixar The Good Dinosaur?
the voice actress of sadness is phyllis smith who plays phyllis in the office. She is such a great actress as well.
Love your guys' reaction videos!
You guys have brightened my day with this one. I haven't laughed so hard since I first saw inside out in 2016. From personal experience broccoli pizza is so so. I'm more of a pepperoni and meatloveres guy. And personally I know how Riley feels about moving. I moved a few times when I was a kid and it's tough to leave what you been used to.
Those multi colored orbs were mixed emotions
hahaha, this reaction didn't fail to make me laugh, like all the good ones. I love this movie and I only watched it once and past that I only keep reliving it through all the reactions. Such a good way to explain the emotions and I love how you, like most people, react to the transition between the simple emotions and the more complex ones. It has its sad moments but it's more about the message and relating to it. On a totally random note, I didn't knew you were local to me, that's pretty cool :)
I don’t know how y’all weren’t balling! Those last like 15-20 minutes I’m never dry eyed
Crying at school (especially your new school) at that age really is one of the worst things that can happen to you 😭💀. Only thing scarier is the bus ride home after you got a phone call.
At least with Bing Bong there are some consolation with the parents they will probably remember their daughter drawing on the walls and singing a song so he will probably always exist in some way
When I first watch inside out I cried in the theater when bang bong died
U guys r such weirdos but I love it. You guys make my day.
I forgot how much I like this movie. This was a fun reaction.
The Bing Bong slander is hilarious.
I’m sorry the way they reacted to the broccoli pizza was absolutely hilarious 😂 😂😂
Oh and the nightmare with the rat and the pizza
Bing Bong doesn't die. It's worse, he's forgotten, by his only friend.
Most animated films are for kids with a little bit of humor thrown in for adults. This movie was made for adults with enough animation for kids to enjoy it.
I've never seen a person NOT crying at the scene where BingBong dies...
We're built different, possibly not human; I'd keep a close eye on us.
You guys are the funniest reactors I've ever seen. You are fricking amazing with your videos! You guys make me laugh every time I watch you guys. You should be proud of yourself's for being great people and reactor's. Keep it up guys.
You guys this was the best intro ever made.
“Thats an Ugly elephant!”
*Pixar will remember that*
Bing bong!!!! Still makes me cry, he’s the best!
Your guys reaction are hilarious 😆
"We'll excite her awake!"
One time I told a great pun in my dream and woke myself up laughing.
It's fascinating to watch a couple of guys watch this movie...
Yes, I agree. Bingbong was just collecting the memories he was part of. And not just that, those where memories that where going to fade away. He had years down there where he left them alone, only when the end was near did he start collecting them. To save them in a way.
In 2024 there's going to be a sequel, which I'm actually real excited for. I want to see how the tackle puberty.
You got yourself a new subscriber. I loved yall's reaction. Made me laugh to be honest. :^)
7:44 Oh broccoli pizza my favorite kind of pizza
Hating Bing Bong for his appearance initially and then thinking his motives are nefarious without any proof because of the way he looks is a sh*t take at best.
The cloud town bit I believe is trying to reference China town with jack Nickelson
You guys should totally watch The Wiz (1978). You went be disappointed. That film literally defined my childhood!
Let’s take a moment to remember Bing Bong…. He put the mission first.
The Inside of the teenage boys head is so accurate!
“Can we turn Riley into a sociopath?” 😆
"Is she a disease"
I mean... depression is an illness so you're not far off ^^
We all need to feel happiness AND sadness in our life.
