The Miners and Smithers of RuneScape was once RuneScape's largest and most generous skilling clan. Throughout most of RuneScape Classic and RuneScape 2 they gave away billions of GP to random players. Until Jagex made an update to the game that made them disappear overnight. This is their story.

MaSoRS Is a good clan in the history of the game!
I got banned from Strike Force. 😢
Oh look, more mobile p2w mtx garbage.
Oprah isn't a good person and has done alot of fucked up things. Unsubscribed for your shitty, morally bankrupt content
I couldnt be a youtuber. Pushing p2w predatory games on my viewers would make me feel too guilty. Like I'm betraying them or something. Hey at least he didnt sponsor raid shadow legends lol (the ultimate "eat sht I only care about money" sponsor)
Finally someone who remembers these dudes , they hosted the biggest drop party i ever saw in al kharid
Gave me 99 trillion str8 cash, never forget that, changed the game
They also gave me 7 trillion str8 cash, never forget that, changed my life

Little bit before my time but I vaguely remember hearing about them, I forgot about 'em though until this video lol
So happy to this this video. I am a retired member of MaSoRs who joined the clan in 2007. I also was also a Senior member that went on to become part of the advisory council before I retired. Seeing this video pop up out of nowhere brings back the Nostalgia of being part of the team that made it happen. For years before EOC and trade restrictions we'd so a semi annual drop party with the big obe being the summer ones. The very last one we did after trade restrictions were lifted one of our leaders decided to drop his Purple or white party hat as well (i think worth 220m at the time.) The person who ended up getting was i think some newer player in his base 50 stats and everyone just congratulated the legend
“Advisory council” 😂 cringe
@brosettastone7520 I mean if you want a simple but similar explanation on how the rank structure works for the clan think of la cosa nostra and advisory council is consigliere with underboss authority but we're meant for not quite retired admins. The leaders of the clan have the ultimate say and senior members are active admins. Elite members are our mods and we have even specified roles for each rank too. You might say cringe when you dealt with 300-ish members in a forum or clan chat some things need structure

At least until mom gets a weird call from the CC company.
@@m1ntgrinds It's been many years since kids using their parent's card on RS was a common thing lol, the introduction of unappealable perma bans for chargebacks saw to that
Lmao comment of the week
🤣🤣🤣🤣 That was a good laugh
Back at this time you couldn't buy bonds and sell them for gp
i was part of that group :D
damn i never got above mithril smithing i remember that pretty well. but i do remember chatting a lot and slaving in a location while listening to music or watching television.
lol - that's nice.
Playing rs for almost 20 years now but never heard of them. Sounds like bunch of cool and chill guys in that clan
Play for another 20 and you'll hear of them again m8
They excommunicated a guy for reading PMs, so not that cool or chill.
@@mushyroom9569he did a lot more than that. You didn’t listen well enough lol
@@mushyroom9569 For reading PM's, threatening people, harassing people on the daily, trying to delete the clan... weird guy to play devils advocate for.
Wow. I had actually never heard of them, even though I might have been at one of their drop parties post free trade at one point. I hope this video brings some light back on this really amazing clan, and maybe they'll make an osrs clan.
I was at one where they was dropping party hats was insane
I hope they do make one in OSRS. My screen name was MinerNecron, I literally called myself a mining robot... My personal greatest achievement (IMHO) was the day I bought my own Dragon Pickaxe and upgraded it with the cosmetic. Never reached 99 mining due to getting scammed and forgetting passwords, causing me to have to start over multiple times, but I got to 95 on my most recent account.
Mining is virtually all I do in OSRS and it's relaxing for me. I can't believe I never heard of these guys in all my years of playing. They would have been my kind of people instead of just clicking ore alone.
Man I remember these guys showing up in the mining guide taking all the ore in classic. I joined straight away. So many of the usernames in the screenshots are straight nostalgia hits. I remember every single name in some of the friends lists lol. My username is Jardeath, I'm in some of the screenshots. I remember staying up all night for the drop parties in my teens, events weren't at great times being in Australia.
I've been the admin for their forum for the last 15+ years, at this point I basically just host it for archival purposes (though you need an account to see the content going back to ~2004) but there's a lot of history in there. A few of them are still somewhat active in Discord and play today, but I think most people just slowly stopped playing over time - life goes on I guess. Thanks for the video :)
Oh snaps it’s Jarrod. Had no idea you played RuneScape. You should benchmark RuneScape on your gaming laptops 😂
“In RuneScape you can’t be born into wealth”
Tell that to my GIM partner
I'm that gim partner in my group. Took a year break and never got kicked out and all 4 of the others just grinded. The guilt is making me not even want to log in at this point, lol.
@@khrishp I'm sure they would to see you back :D
@@khrishp I just rejoined after about a year as well and I've been grinding hard to catch up and I'm almost caught up! Your GIM mates miss you >:(
Shit everyone in this comment thread if ANYONE of you want to hop on or have a extra group member or something I’m so down I’ve been wanting to hop on with a group of homies and grind some group iron men but my other homies just don’t wanna do it because I got them in the game and they didn’t have the nostalgia like I did getting back into it a couple years back basically all cuz of oda and they got mid level and quit and don’t wanna restart cuz it took them a lot of time but me I’ve reset so many times it doesn’t even matter to me lmaooo. But fr if anyone wants a new friend to hop on with I’m wit it and I got a studio grade mic (I make music) a decent laptop, headset allathat
"In Runescape you can't be born into wealth"
My cousins who showered me with gp when I started playing would beg to differ
Same here my neighbour would help me with quests donate me all sorts of weapons I couldn't afford to buy, the amount of free GP the guy gave me, ah good ol' times hey🤣
The BRoll clips are always so good, using the classic chars, and in-game locations.. so good.
Omg I can't believe there's a video about Masors!! I was a member in the early Runescape 2 years, all the way until EOC when most people quit. It was super cool seeing some recognizable names in the video. Thanks so much for sharing this!
I remember you! My username was Jardeath
@@JarrodsTech I remember you too!! I wonder how many of us are lurking in the comments here 👀
1:07 "Mining and Smithing were, and really still are 2 of the slowest and most tedious skills in the game"
Runecrafting: "You dare challenge me?!?!?"
Runecrafting is fine with the minigame. I think agility is the worse by far though.
Bro, my little brother stole the name "The Masors" because he went to a huge drop party from these guys when he was like 9 or 10. Wiiiild to see this!
I wonder how the old owners experienced all this. Just imagine..all the nostalgic stories. Great video once again!
love the Futurama reference >.< 5:02
when wildy and unlimited trade was removed that was the Rs dark ages
This explains a lot!! I started playing RuneScape around 2006/2007 during Christmas break I was 9/10. A couple weeks into the game I saw a player in all black drop some coin randomly next to the Lumbridge Castle (they might’ve let a goblin kill them if I remember correctly), I was broke and new so I went over and picked it up and it was about 500K. I always wondered what happened! My friends from school who got me into the game wouldn’t believe my story until I showed them. S/O to whoever that was, I always wanted to thank them for making my time playing RuneScape so much fun since I didn’t have to grind for $$ just working on my cooking and crafting. Plus allowing me to bank rolling some of my friends
I was friends with Adidas, and was one of the early members of MaSoRS. Fun fact, the clan name name was a play on the word "Masons" aka freemasons as Adidas was a freemason himself. This is why the clan was always so helpful, charitable and community spirited.
Lol, kind of had that impression due to all the robes. No clue if that's a mason thing, but seemed appropriate.
Look up what 3.3rd degree mas…ons be up to including at bo…hem…ian grove
Anyone who wants to vouch for this testimony? The details and lack of incentive make it inherently credible but I still want to check it.
And why they made people worship demons as part of the initiation.
I just looked up what these other commenters are talking about and all I see are conspiracy theories. And every single one of those conspiracy theories eventually boils down to antisemitism. Wtf
Haven't played runescape in over 10 years, and these RS history vids scratch such a nostalgia itch! Great stuff man!
Your friend or alt giving you gp is basically being born into wealth
I like these old stories to bring me back to my childhood, I’m 29 now. Thanks
Such a amazig piece of history even if it is just a blip on the map
Well, I’ve actually never heard of them myself which is shocking I’ve been playing since 2004. Glad to see another video very excited.
wtf your other comment said you was part of it. Why do people just lie on the internet for no reason
@@A93640 they have different numbers after their names, I assume different people. Dracula backwards must be a popular username.
I was a member of MaSoRS beck when I was younger. This was peak RuneScape and I bring up this to people all the time with little to no memory. Thank you! They deserve to be known.
those ores on the ground look like something else.
nice video. I'm just upset that you didn't show footage of the original drop party room in Camelot.
I used to do firemaking near the falador party room from 70-99, when the meta was to just burn like 80k maple logs. I made a pretty decent profit like 10m+ off the parties alone, there were designated servers for it, some of the stuff dropped there reguraly was already insane.
Do love me some Colonello while eating dinner, amazing video!
Thank you!! :D
What dinner did you eat?
@@WarbrainJack Roasted potatoes with onions and carrots. Also threw some chicken thighs into the air fryer and had coke zero with it. Was delicious.
This is an amazingly wholesome part of our history. Man...thank you so much for putting so much hard work, effort, and dedication into documenting the history of the game and community we all love.
That Futurama reference was perfectly placed.
I came into contact with them multiple times back in old, good days.. I was member of Skillers United, it was awesome clan! Absolutely loved Skiling competitions between clans.. it was awesome!
Honestly, the party room drop solution sounds genius, that was a very smart way to handle that.
Picture getting smithing and smelting both to 99 by yourself before the grand exchange
Would love to see more videos like this, on the topic of old clans
Same!
9:30 Holy crap, was this recreated with a map editor or did you get a bunch of players/alt accounts to re-create this screenshot in-game?
The Minors and Smithers of RuneScape?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I was in the clan for a bit. I quit before eoc in 2009 when it was talked about. They were a fun clan.
Man as a 20 year vet of wow, I've always thought of runescape as the poor mans version of wow. But holy crap I cannot stop watching your videos.
Wow fell off harder than Anything ever
@@AlkaRez lol yeah TTW definitely didn’t just break sales records.
@@strikestorm stfu I feel good when I talk sht.
Runescape has so much deep ingrained community lore its unbelievable
@@strikestorm God knows who is actually playing, nobody organically discusses it or memes about it. It's hollow popularity. Like when a chinese mobile game blows up.
Finally! Great work on your videos as always Nello!
Thank you Soph!! :)
You should talk to spot drops. The RuneScape lore that man knows for drop party’s clans and his own is insane. Definitely would make a great video. Thanks for another great video!
so nostalgic. I don't know why but part of your video reminded me of taping coins and putting them in an envelope to pay for my first memberships!
Not to toot my own horn or anything but I got a notification that I was in the top .05 % of colonello watchers. Lol. Love the content. I listen to it on my drive to and from work most days. Keep up the amazing work
Was apart of a clan back in 2018/2019 that was in a way like this … would meet up and do drop parties for randoms. One guy alone brought in 600M of items for just a single drop. Absolutely no clue where the players went though as I took a break for a year. Have yet to see a single one log in, ever.
...Holy dude. I might've seen one of these as a young kid playing. many people were around edgeville's bridge (by the canoe station) asking some questions and trading eachother. i answered a division question the fastest and got a rune kiteshield, I think my brother stole it from me the next week but it was sick owning a high level item with my level 20 stats. wild remembering that area before the Grand Exchange.
What a great story! Can't believe the clan lasted throughout the entire time original RS was good. Usually it's a more sad reason for a clan's end.
I could see now a days it being nearly impossible for them due to bots just flooding the parties
These are the stories and people that deserve to be propped up onto a pedestal and remembered fondly. So many times we remember the scumbags, but not the people who are legitimately making the game and community a fun and inviting place to be in
I just wanna say thank you bro ive been very depressed latly and your videos have been taking me down the best time of my life and god do i miss it man.... thank you so much for your videos
Thank you for watching. Hope your days get brighter soon :)
I remember a youtube video from early 2000s of the person who got a purple party hat from the falador drop party room. It was super laggy and he randomly clicked on a spot and just sniped it lol
Wish I ran into them! Would love to get my first cash stack
I was a ranked member of this clan during it's last drop party and just a bit until EOC dropped. I was around for the clan transfer and was a forum moderator during that time. The clan wasn't dead when I quit RS3 around the release of invention, but it was definitely dwindling. I have a lot of fun memories from that time. I just lost interest in the direction RS3 was going down.
I think I have some screenshots and video clips of the clan hall being made on an old HDD.
I actually went to the one behind the alkarid bank. I saw the rs forum post but I didn't know it was a clan looking to recruit lol. Had I known they were, I would've 100% joined because I LOVED mining. It was hard to get in the server since it was capped at 2k players and most were on for that event. You couldn't even see the items on the ground because every tile had a person on it and it couldn't load more than a handful of tiles out.
same here. i was always one who believed in crafting up your own equipment so i always placed a big emphasis on mining and smithing back then.
Love the Bender reference, it compelled me to subscribe
Ah man nice to learn about them. I don't think I ever went to any of their Party. They should have asked me to be on the FIREMAKING Team! [Previous Rank 1 btw] :)
The part of vanished members at the end really hit me.. As someone whom have been playing MMO's since 99 it really hit me as I have seen sooo many friends come and go to never be heard from again. To this day I still in wow can get so nostalgic when traveling around in the old zones just thinking about all the friends I used to have and did RP events with all over the game world. I've quite wow my self a few months ago (Thanks to blizzard being useless hags) I still though think about the friends I had by the time I left and whom I now have left behind, some of them I still speak with on Discord and some have followed me over to FFXIV others I have fully lost contact with.
Cool video. Lots of memories in MASORS to look back on. Definitely wish they hadn't changed the game so much, I'd probably still be playing if they hadn't.
Oh hey I remember you, it's Jardeath :)
@@JarrodsTech long live Jardeath. I remember the April Fools joke where you pretended to go rogue and take over the alliance via the forum.

16:47 dang man I love that fire chilling is nice
Dang so they didn't start on OSRS? :c

You're one of the few people who I don't fast forward your in video sponsor ad. If they support colonello then I don't mind hearing about their product for a minute lol
It was my dream to be able to play the original RuneScape classic back in the day but I started in 05, shit looked so much fun.
immediately knew that the killing blow was Free Trade Restriction even before clicking on the video lol
I remember getting 68k cooked lobsters once early on in RS2. It was game changing money for me.
There was biggest Lithuanian clan LFC or something Lithuanian forces, once I saw them in edgehill just spamming clan name. Do you know anything about them? It was around before trading was banned
Biggest in runescape
I find the desire to just throw wealth around so intriguing
Jagex: A clan being generous? Destroy them!
*ROT being absolute garbage players, ddos attacks, and turning dead man mode into clan man mode, also having jagex employees give them access to other players accounts and who knows what else*
Jagex: ROT? Naw, they did everything legitimately and never broke any rules.
I already knew which update killed the clan without even knowing who the clan was cause I remember that update on the trade limit when it came to osrs as I was playing when it was introduced, it really sucked massively because I wanted to help my friend get into the game and wanted to drop him some good gear sets to use while leveling but I couldnt trade him or drop him them
Finally, an admission that EoC was one if not the update that made most players quit.
Enjoyed my breakfast to this really cool story about a clan
Thanks for uploading
3:38 Strike Force really just flipped the 9gag logo over and pretended it was a six huh
Can we still hold drop parties? I want to revive something like this
Ah the nostalgia...Im going to go throw some loot in the party room and see if i can make someones day a bit better, jut for the hell of it
wow its always so surreal seeing original RuneScape I only got to play it a couple months before it began fading away its art style felt charming and at the same time dark almost apocalyptic probably because of the black sky but I wish I could play this version again I did for a bit on some private server but too weird
“I declare war on you

So that's what happened! Never knew why the came.up with trade restrictions. Couldn't even have drop parties then. What a sour time for us invested players
I remember going to one of their falador drop parties during trade restrictions got my 1st every dragon scim and my 2nd 2rd and 4th lol 4 noted dragon scims on my fresh membershiped account was crazy to me
Aye that’s funny af I remember getting on before school early af every morning because I knew there were always drop parties worth millions and millions of GP when barely anyone was on and there would only be 2-3 high level people in the party saying please leave we will pay you to just leave now lmaoo I never understood what was going on until now.
my personal generous clan is one of my best friends Arc XD bro has funded almost all my ventures and its greatly appreciated
Man I remember drop parties back in 2006..good times
Has there been an attempt at reviving it in OsRs?
I've played for 18 years and I know why I didn't know of them. I was antisocial and skeptical after being phished
I was mildly involved with masors for a few years. Cool dudes.
No lie, mining and smithing are and have always been my favorite skills in OSRS since I started playing Runescape 20 years ago. (In RS3 they finally got beaten out by archaeology)
Always enjoy the videos!

The second option is ultimately what killed runescape in general hasn't been the same since nor will it ever be.
Am i the only one who loves mining? Im a hoarder, love to fill my bank with ores and junk
The owner didn't quit; he died.
Jagex really shot themselves in the foot not doing pay 2 win. Basically like shark cards with gta
party room was originally in seers village.
True!
I still can’t believe, to this day, Jagex shut down trades and wilderness instead of hiring a competent consultant to get them an in with the anti-fraud teams of credit card companies. Adding things like purchase validation.
I have no idea if anyone knows the answer to this, but were there many other groups doing legit drop parties back then?
I got an adamant platebody and a rune full helm from a drop party in runescape classic
It was in the center of varrock. I just have no idea who was actually dropping stuff. I just saw a bunch of people freaking out and then got really lucky. I think it had to be 2002.
Thats pretty much a core memory for me. It would be neat if it was actually these guys.
