Hey everyone, I just wanted to make it clear that the following video is solely my personal opinion. I want to emphasize that this ranking is subjective and should not be taken as an offense or a dismissal of anyone's favorite character. My intention with this video is to spark friendly discussions and share my perspective on the matter.

Connor didn’t trust people because of him being betrayed time and time again till the end. He was a one man army against a world that was against him, he quite literally was the creed in AC 3. I mean you don’t have to but it’s highly recommended you do the homestead missions cause you see him build relationships and you saw more of his character. He helped a woman deliver her child and during a time where anyone else wouldn’t if they were in his current position. Despite his extremely tragic past of watching his mother die and seeing his tribe being burned to the ground and having to kill his best friend who was manipulated by haytham, god is he cool (sarcasm) and having his mentor and only father figure die, Connor still find the time of day to help others. With such a tragic story he still only wants to protect the people and help them gain there freedom which he believes they all deserve. Of course the guy is gonna be pissed at the end of the game, look at his story and especially his dlc the tyranny of king Washington. Connor is the best assassin cause hes the most real of what would be. Connor is the epitome of what it means to be an assassin for the creed.

I simply adore Jacob because he is unique in the franchise. Every other character is more or less serious, and then you have Jacob. I would however mind if there were more characters like him. Then it would be probably, dull? Annoying even? Hell he even smiles in most of the promo arts. Thats rare for AC protagonists. He's unique in the franchise and that's why I like him.

I find Shay to be quite underrated, since his ideology and mindset stems from the mishaps of the Brotherhood. After killing many Assassins(Chevalier and Hope), he feels bad about doing it. He knows these people, and they were once his friends. Even though he is a Templar, his only real goal is to defend the world from the Precursor sites, which he once activated, which destroyed an entire city. I think that the whole Kenway trilogy(AC3,AC4,ACRo) really focused on the morality of the two factions, and really showed each faction's perspective on the other. It's natural that people don't agree with this, but this trilogy helped put different people and different personas into the no man's land of the Assassin-Templar conflict, and shows how each person fits into the puzzle.

Personally Connor is my favourite assassin although he does not show his growth throughout the story I think it's very subtle as my guess is he was taught from growing up as a native American to never show any emotion. I feel that he set on his path of revenge but wasn't going to show how it affected him so that Charles Lee couldn't taunt him as much idk just a speculation.

I wouldn’t say he was taught to be emotionless. He shows emotion, and lots of it actually. Anger is one portrayed often as he’s constantly battling with what is right or what’s wrong while being sidestepped, backstabbed, and mislead in the process. The entirety of the story is Connor losing something in one way or another and coming to terms with that loss while also having to be at the forefront for not only his people or the assassins but for the country as a whole. To me he was my favorite assassin for how unselfish he was and how he actually cared for every single person and truly just wanted equality no matter how naive the dream was to others. That dream was all he had and he would be damned to have given it up. anger is how he felt at those who constantly tried to demean and belittle his efforts. I’m not saying anger is his only emotion but with the story treating him the way it does, if it were me I’d be angry too.

Exactly, I found his impatience and naivety as a child understandable I mean he was a kid and his village was brutally wiped in front of him, including his mother, but throughout his journey and training with Achilles we see him develop into a calmer more responsible and I felt his reluctance to make relationships was not only relatable but made the death of Achilles much more effective (in particular Connor's conversation at the grave) as he was the one of few people he was able to make a deep connection with, this is very applicable to a lot of moments throughout the story his personality allows emotional moments to hit harder imo

I have to play devil's advocate for Connor Kenway. I mean he's hardly the best, but I think he's way better than people give him credit for. He's just a really really angry guy, which I find a bit more compelling than others, and a bit more separate from most Assassins, especially Ezio and Altair who had been established so far in the series. Sure Ezio could be hot headed at times, but that was to watch him grow into a more mature and responsible assassin by the end of the game(s).
But I think where he falls short is being a little too one note, like you said there's not much character development, he is far too determined on his quest to get revenge on Charles Lee, and really it doesn't amount to much in the end. There's some interesting stuff with Haythem, but in the end it doesn't really feel like it has much narative punch when he assassinates his own father and then Charles Lee is still there and...
Wait I was supposed to defend him... Look he's not perfect, but I think he's better than he gest credit for.

Altair is great even without Revelations. The story in AC1 slowly turns his character from an arrogant narcissist to an understanding hero of the Creed, and he bettered the Assassins for centuries after his own death. I can't say the telling of his story was great, unfortunately.

AC1 didn't really have side quests unless we count the collecting of flags. Doing better than that wouldn't be too hard, Ubisoft.

I feel like Altair is complicated. Basing it on just the first game he has a good character arc to grow from his overconfident and arrogant and brutal and not thinking for himself to being calm collected, a free thinker and more caring for human life. I think this alone puts him in at least the top 5 or 4. Adding the codex from 2 and story from Revelations and Bloodlines easily makes him a top 2 character for me. I think it's fair to give Altair and Ezio more credit it's not our fault that Ubisoft stopped investing into their characters after Revelations and just gave up after one game.

For me, not including Frye twins as it has been years since I touched Syndicate (I'm planning to play it in a few weeks as I'm about to finish Unity and I'm playing them in chronological order so syndicate is the last one) from worst to best: Eivor, Shay, Connor, Altaïr, Aveline, Edward, Bayek, Kassandra, Arno and Ezio. I enjoyed Kassandra's personality and smarts a lot and Arno is very charming and smart to me and I really enjoy his and Élise's love story. I hate how Arno seeks friend from alcohol, but I can relate to it too. I don't even need to explain Ezio, do I? I feel like Edward is too simple of a character for me to enjoy as much as the people higher up on my list. Sure he grew a lot in the end, but he's still very light hearted and I feel like I enjoyed him the most in the ending cutscene and I enjoyed his philosophy.

    • @blacksheep6415
      @blacksheep6415 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I don’t agree with the idea of Edward being simple. We the players get to see Edward interact with people more than just to fight along side them in a quick battle like Ezio or Eivor. Edward is made out to be a very humane character he’s greedy for money and he hates living on a farm with minimum wage pay. He’s so obsessed with money that he will sacrifice people to so can become rich but ends his game realizing that he lost all the people he cared about along the way. Edwards wife dies and he doesn’t even find about it until years later and she was one of the main reasons he left to become a privateer. Edward is lost by the end of the game with no sense of direction and being extremely wealthy like he wanted but no one to enjoy his fortune with. His story is sad and gets a second chance when he meets his daughter. Edwards character is one of my top 5 Ac characters because even thought he only got 1 game he arguably had the most character development and felt the most human in my opinion.

    Assassins Creed Origins
The Setting of Ptolemaic Egypt is superb, the entire region is filled with immense beauty, the setting pulls you in and saturates your brain in another time,in another world.
The setting is so beautiful that you wish not to ride atop your cherished camel ,instead you constantly want to walk the sand covered streets, the agricultural fields of the Bread Basket,in the blissfully idyllic oasis and in the spectacular landscapes of the Egyptian desert.
The wildlife is accurate, engaging and adds an adventurous aspect to the game, like wrestling a Nile crocodile or running away from a charging hippopotamus, it feels so natural and makes you love Egypt even more.
You have a pet falcon that aids in scouting and in combat, the most perfect friend a man can ask for.
    I love my little Horus.
The weapons, the outfits/armours are numerous and good.
The combat is fun and engaging with a clear progression arch, making you feel stronger only when you work on improving your combat.
Although it is not as good as the older games, it relies to much on button mashing and ‘’adrenaline power ups’’ instead of well timed counters and beautiful/elegant counter/take down moves. For the Copesh … the most iconic Egyptian sword...there are only 2 KILL MOVES…
Whilst fighting unarmed , you can’t disarm an enemy , here to it is just button mashing and ‘’adrenaline power ups’’..to to faster button mashing…. It is frightening to me how AC1s combat is far superior to a game created more than a decade later.
Assasinating an enemy around a corner is not as dood as in Unity, in Unity you kill the target and you neatly place the body against the wall you were hiding against.
Here you dont hide as much as crouch awkwardly against a wall trying to face the correct direction when the enemy passes, then once you assassinate him..the body just drops to the floss right there for all to see, then you have to move over the body, pick it up and carry it 2 feet around the corner and flop it down on the floor.
Why did Unities dev team do such a better job than this team?
Unfortunately there is no social stealth….you can only hide in bushes, hay or some sparsely placed closets. No blending into/hiding in crowds, on benches, or working with clerical factions to hide in plain sight. They really missed the ball on this one.
The characters are most engaging, Baek is a brilliant protagonist, a Madjey returning home after a long expedition ,finding his home under occupation and tracking down those in power with ill repute and working on creating a regime change. The way you lose your ring finger in game is epic.

You can disable the idiotic damage numbers which greatly increases immersion.
You can read scattered papyri that tells you so much of this fabled land,of its peoples and its culture, then you get to delve into ancient (even for that time) crypts ,exploring the ancient tombs of Pharaohs a milenia older than Cleopatra herself, that leaves you itching with excitement to see what adventurous treasures lies around the next corner.
This game is a visual piece of art, bringing the past to life.
Although it is not perfect ,It is really good.
8.5/10 due to the mediocre combat and lack of social stealth..

Makes Eivor sound collected, intelligent and imho stand out from the crowd of your average ruthless viking. Whenever male Eivor speaks, he seems genuinely interested in the topic, almost like he wants to learn that person and their story. He isn't too brush, almost always speaks clear and well, especially for a viking. Add in the fact that he was essentially the only viking to get in proper touch with the brotherhood and that he's a natural at flyting, it makes it even that much better.

    Assassins Creed 1.
I am elated that Assassins Creed One is getting a graphical remake.
They should just work on the graphics and add more medieval arming sword options, I would love to use a beautiful Crusader arming sword as Altair.
I don't care one bit about the story outside of history/the animus, I just want the historical content. My top ACs are Origins,2,Brotherhood and Unity. Revelations setting of Constantinople was superb, but the half arsed npc design ( copy and paste potato face) really placed that game on the back burner for me.
But without a shadow of a doubt my favoutire Assassin's Creed of all time still remains Assassins Creed one.
The setting of the Levant is such a climax in our world's history, the numerous cultures and world views that all convened ,coexisted and cooperated at this crossroads were immense.
Medieval, in cities that are policed by soldiers , guards and police forces , shows exactly why stealth and assassins were a reality/necessity. Those settings are superb.
With iconic cities such as Arce,Demascus and the center of the world Jerusalem , the world in which you find yourself is so rich in history, culture and importance, filled with peoples and packed, lively streets.
In a medieval setting using European arming swords, ME shamsiers , short sword, throwing knives and your iconic hidden blade , makes the close quarters melee combat the best there ever was.
I adored the melee combat in these older AC games, such beautiful, complex, flowing moves that were so elegant and deadly and AC 1 still has the best / most beautiful melee movesets of all the games.
You start with just your hidden blade, then slowly as you develop your skills and rank up you gain access to more and more weapons until you are armed with some of the most elegant and deadly weapons of the middle ages.
You only use a one handed weapon, thus only a single handed or double handed weapon, no Sword+dagger or sword + shield or two sword combo and that is melee perfection to me.
An arming sword in the hand and nothing in the other. In the remake If they added some moves that included damaging the enemy with your hidden blade whilst in a melee duel using your sword, like when you fight janissaries in AC Revelations then it will be pure melee perfection.
Altair is by far the most intriguing and capable Assassin to me , he is strong, calculating, mysterious and in my opinion the most skilled assassin thus far.
You sit on benches to blend into the crowd, or you join a group of monks in prayer allowing you to vanish from your pursuers.
The way the factions in the game are depicted is good,
Unlike the propaganda of the repulsive woke cult of today , they don’t portray the Christian Crusaders as the villains. Although they did portray the Crusader held territories as cold, bleak, dilapidated and run down where the Muslim areas are vibrant and more appealing which I do not agree with.
Especially the Hospitallar quarters which in reality were some of the cleanest and most clinical areas in the entire Levant since they specialised in surgery and the healing and recuperation of all injured / sickly people , be it wounded crusader knights or Muslim/Christian/Jewish villagers sharing the same cities.
The Crusaders specialised in the construction of wells and water ways / aqueducts that facilitated the flow of fresh , clean water into controlled cities and waste water out of these cities.
(Although I can’t recall if Acre was under siege at the time in game, if that is the case, that could explain the city's dilapidated state.)
But be that as it may, you still fight against the Crusaders as well as the invasive Muslims.
At the end they show that the enemy is not the Templar Knights , but instead the corrupt ,evil leaders on both sides of the conflict.
I love that they correctly show that both factions have evil and corrupt figure heads that you have to assassinate and in turn both factions have good honorable leaders that bring so much good to the world such as King Richard the Lionheart and Saladin.
The toughest enemies to fight are the Great helm wearing Templar Knights and rightly so. These special forces of their time were a force to be reckoned with and even when you use all your combat skill and tricks… you still get a proper run for your money when challenging a Templar Knight to a duel.
I don't want open world, I don't want guns and I loathe MYTHOLOGICAL / MAGICAL shit looking at you AC Viking hype train. Keep it 100% Historical. I loved that AC1 gave tiny hints about God Three in One's existence/presence but that was never the focus.
I want an AC with the depth and realism similar to Red dead Redemption but in a Medieval/Ancient setting.
I can’t stress how much I love AC one and I can;t wait to play it again when the remake comes out.

Connor’s character and development is there, but I think it’s Ubisoft’s fault for not giving him exactly what we needed to fully connect with him. His changes were often way too subtle to be noticed and it required me several playthroughs to finally see him fleshed out and developed. In terms of gaming, that’s not good execution. But I must say, when it all finally clicked, he immediately became my fourth favorite Assassin’s Creed protagonist.
Believe it or not, the Homestead missions and optional conversations really do him justice, seeing him interacting with people who he genuinely cares about really allow us to see him behind all that quiet and brooding personality and we actually get to see him be happy and at peace with people he essentially considers family.
To say that he had no development is incorrect. You actually get to see him from being naive and vengeful boy transitioned into a collected and wise Master Assassin. His devotion to the Assassin’s cause showed how well Achilles has trained him, and how he carried himself as he finally confronted his father and Charles Lee really showed how well he has matured and turned away from his vendetta for vengeance. The only failure that he clearly would regret is that he failed to protect the land of his people and his devotion to the Assassins further isolated him away from his tribe. This making the end of his story rather poetically bitter.

  • @Colonnial
    @Colonnial ปีที่แล้ว

The problem with Eivor and Alexios/Kassandra lacking of character-specific depth for me comes totally from the bad idea of letting the players pick an answer within dialogues.
This makes it so much harder for character developing to form a stringent character, since they need to implement variable chatracters for every way of picking answers the player chose.
Ubisoft clearly did not take the time to create those variable characters. Moreover, in my eyes the decided to create a neutral character. But how should we build a connection to Eivor or Alexios/Kassandra when their character is completely neutral and without any depth.
One thing that makes this even worse is that the previews we as players see for the answer options do not match the real answer every time or you just dont get what the answer really will be.
Thus, sometimes the answer of Eivor was not the one I wanted to give because I just misunderstood the preview. And on some days i felt like being more like an asshole whereas the day before my answers were more friendly. So the only character I could imagine for my Eivor is something like a Dissociative Identity Disorder or something like that.
We need to get back to protagonists with a clear character and without the opportunity of choosing the answer

    12. Shay - underdeveloped, idiot, victim of Rogue's poor writing
    11. Kassandra - fun and likeable, but the choice system makes her character hard to define
    10. Eivor - same as Kassandra, but has a bit more defined personality
    9. Jacob - had his moments, but most of the time I found him annoying
    8. Aveline - had potential to be a fantastic character, but suffers from how short Liberation's story is
    7. Connor - great character, but lacks growth
    6. Altair - well-written character without any major flaws, but I just didn't connect him the same way I did with other characters
    5. Arno - consistent and well defined character with clear motivations, has a bit of Ezio in him but still feels like his own character
    4. Evie - probably the smartest character in the series, perfect counterpart for Jacob
    3. Bayek - such a multi-dimensional character, out of all characters in the series he feels the most like a real person
    2. Ezio - I mean... it's Ezio, do I need to say more?
    1. Edward - perfection, great balance between serious and fun, the best character growth in the series

I would personally switch kassandra and Connor. Even though I really like Connor. He was a bit hasty and angry at first but he grew to be calmer. His open/caring personality is shown more in the homestead missions. Also think part of his restraint to get close is his realization that both sides of the war where using him only for him to gain nothing in the end. Kassandra’s story is more emotional especially the main family story and the acting. She went through a lot of hardship and hard decisions in the game yet remained hopeful and charismatic. She had some great character depth that I think has most potential to be explored in the AC world, considering the real game/Atlantis ending.

@@chrismoore5333 AC (Ubisoft) in general could do a better good in adding representation. In case of the female characters I think people just want a mainline game with one set female lead based on how male dominant all the other games are. Ubisoft executives comments on how “female characters don’t sell games” doesn’t help either. Don’t think people are against playing as alexios or male evior, It’s just up to the player. I’ve played as both kassandra and alexios and just prefer kassandra more. Same with evior but I don’t have much of a preference in their case, though male evior works better with their voice and them being odin. It’s all just preference that’s why we’re given the choice.

    • @DeadmansCreed
      @DeadmansCreed ปีที่แล้ว

@@chrismoore5333 Don’t know about the inside story with syndicate or Evie’s role. But you’re right Jacob’s bisexuality was made very subtle. Not sure if ubisofts decision to make Kassandra and female evior canon was an attempt to pleas those that want a female protagonist or to avoid having lgbt men/characters in the forefront, wouldn’t put it past them though. There was huge backlash in odyssey when they made kassandra/alexios be with and have a child with a character of the opposite gender. It undermined those who played their character as lgbt, and likely was Ubisoft being cowardly in fully having a gay/bisexual main character. But at the same time in odyssey and Valhalla whichever gender version you play as your still given the choice to play that character as straight/gay/bi. That’s the point of the new RPG direction, it’s based on player preference. Doesn’t excuse the lack of full on representation of lgbt men but as with a solo female lead that’s something that remains to be seen from Ubisoft. Perhaps not the whole company as you mentioned the lead syndicate writer is a gay man himself. But they do need to change the way they do things, and that starts with the higher ups/executives.
