      A lot of us are leadingin many ways. I don't point fingers at those who don't, I don't have time for that nor do I want to waste my energy hurling cut downs even if people deserve it. Elevate those around you, elevate yourself, and inspire others to do the same and the world gets better one person at a time. The more people that are propping up society with good values and hard work ethic the easier the load for us all. Team work doesn't end when you ETS out, you teach others the importance of it by example. Be the mentor you wish you had when you were younger and teach the undisciplined in the art of being a warrior.

    can you imagine being one of the few MMA fighters that beat an Speacial Forces operator! no negativity intended btw....I'm just saying it's amazing that a good fighter is a good fighter regardless if he is an SF operator or a bouncer....if your fundamentals are good.

    • @eclipsewrecker
      @eclipsewrecker 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That’s the point though ....right? He’s a martial artist then an operator: not a martial artist because he was an operator.
      99 times out of 100 a pro mma fighter beats a SFO.

      @F.P.E.7211 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In an MMA fight...not a life or death fight...let's be honest about the difference! MMA trains first for the "sport" of MMA...not train to kill in life or death situations!

    • @eclipsewrecker
      @eclipsewrecker 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@F.P.E.7211 hahaha they are trained to ‘not kill.’ That means that they know how; Unless you are talking about the levels of threat other than empty-hand.
      Whoever is controlling the fight has the greatest chance of ending it by killing, subduing, or submitting. Yes people submit in combat/fights; it’s the acceptance of the submission that isn’t guaranteed.
      There is no “train to kill” in empty-hand arts. You train to stop before the kill, or injury. The Green Berets, navy seals, and the marines have figured that out in the last 20 years.
      The best chance for a ‘kill shot’ is a punch to the face and the fall, and that is of low chance of success.

    I agree with his message over all, but his PTSD issue is very broad brushed. Everybody operates and maintains at different speeds and tempos. I have more PTSD from growing up in Flatbush Brooklyn than I probably ever could from the Marine Corps. During my time in the Marines my upbringing was my foundation, it was my baseline. Everything was up from there. You can't expect the same from someone who had an "easier" or different upbringing. Their mindset is not operating at that manner. I do agree that some do use their PTSD, anywhere it stems from, as a crutch and a means to not progress and to not carry on gets stale after a while.
    Concerning "entitlements", I believe that people are misconstruing the word with something of their own particular perspective or opinion. If the programs like VA home loan or GI Bill is not an entitlement, then military recruiters need to stop presenting it as such. To stand in front of colleges, universities and high schools, and pitch veteran based programs as a sort of quid pro quo for their military service maybe setting the wrong example. Quite possibly that is the reason behind the uprising of PTSD cases. The military is not recruiting people with a warrior mindset who want to serve their country, but instead recruiting people who just want a means to pay for their education and a low interest home loan.

    • @chusamusic1409

      Dawud G Delves Couldn't agree with you more. Recruit warriors that seek to fight, not punks looking for easy ride, entitlements and safe spaces because war hurt their feelings. Send in killers to kill and leave the lap dogs at home.

    What Tim said about surrounding yourself with like minded people is the biggest mistake I made when I got out, I did not do that and my personal and professional career suffered for WAY too long for it
    Had to buck the fuck up, get my mind straight, first, then things started falling into place, still not there, yet, but I'm on the right track to get where I want to go

      Anibal Perez when I got out, I found myself isolated and could not relate to many people. I happened upon a like minded veteran and were are now like family. My wife still doesn't understand why I can't just make couples friends with her. I tell her she doesn't understand, i can only get along with certain people.

      @sweaterwearingsquirrel9302 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anibal Perez Just keep at it. Baby steps and never go backwards. If you feel yourself slipping, reach out a hand. Even if you can't find another veteran, some civi's hearts are just as good and they're just as good to talk to. Just make friends in places where you would expect to find people that are like you. However you have to remember that while it's always good to be around people like yourself, don't just surround yourself with Yes-men.

    Great video GN. HUGE fan of the channel. This by far, is one of the best videos on the subject anywhere...PERIOD! I retired from 20 years of active duty service almost 14 years ago and I also use the label 'entitled' in reference to those who feel a debt is owed to them beyond what they 'earned'. It chaps my ass to see so many of the 'entitled' walking around with their hands out demanding more.
    That was a great message passed along by Mr Kennedy and I hope it goes viral. I hope all those watching it find it within themselves to get up off your ass, dust yourself off and get back into the fight. I preach 'nobody can take care of you like you can'. So, to all those 'entitled', STOP THE BULLSHIT and take care of YOU!

    Love this video, but I respectfully disagree with one point. While all veterans deserve respect, some vets deserve even more because they have sustain significant, life-long injuries, either physical or psychological. Those vets deserve the "dog" and financial support from the rest of us. I say this as someone who has had the privilege of flying some of those veterans who have seen the worst (through Veterans Airlift Command). So Tim, love ya. You are the man. You have my utmost respect! That said, there are those vets not as fortunate as you or I. Otherwise, I totally agree with you that veteran businessmen and businesswomen have the discipline to succeed. Personally, my Army SF years were my formative years and have served me very well in business. Don Catalano, ODA-754 HALO-Scuba.

      Thank you for saying this. I've just discovered Mr. Kennedy and really like what he has to say. He reminds me of Gen. George S. Patton. One of the lessons I have had to learn about leadership is that those who naturally poses it are cut from a different cloth. We hold ourselves to a standard higher than anyone outside of us ever could. The challenge is learning to let those people, whom we care about most, live to their own standard.

      Absolutely agree, we owe some of these guys and their families more than we could ever give, but as a 20 yr Army vet, I see a large majority looking for a handout and abusing the system set in place for true PTSD sufferers. I had some tough deployments and yeah my head wasn't right after a couple but you know what? I still had a family to support, troops to lead and a mission to accomplish. How am I going to accomplish any of that feeling sorry for myself? There are guys that went through shit 10x worse than what I did and they succeeded. We only get one chance at this life, don't be a pussy.

    Tim Kennedy is exactly right , we as veterans all signed on our names on the dotted line . It's a job that we do , we are no different than anyone else , whether a fire firefighter or a policeman or any other profession . We all knew what we were getting into, know one owes us anything, our profession is about doing our job and doing what is necessary to win the fight . We are in it to win it, the true warriors, don't want handouts , if you want things in life you earn it, we don't want anyone to give us anything, we do this job because we want to not because we are going to get something for free.. The true warrior knows that, we are fighting for freedom and repression and things that are more than who we are . We are in it to be the best that we can be !

    I am in my forties and if I look at my natural talents and discipline, the truth is I have fallen woefully short. I have rarely pushed myself. When Tim says it's not easier said then done, just start, he's spot on. I have made excuses most of my life and while it was essential to having a friend lead me in the right direction, I was lazy. Men, you can be better men, mentally, spiritually, physically, character wise. Just take the first step and resolve to take the next. Embrace the suck, own your failures, and keep the end in mind. Hurry up and fail. Be warrior poets, be sheepdogs, be men.

    Agreed. I’m not a leftist or rightest. I’m not a machismo either. But I believe men need to be men again. Hard working, proficient at hand to hand and shooter warfare, learn respect, compassion, and be intelligent and learned. There’s so many things that make a “GOOD” man, and I walk around in this country and see the vast majority of males being anything but men. We need people like Tim, Jocko, Andy, and many others like them as an example. I train hard everyday to strengthen my three pillars: Physical, Mental, and Physical. Men need to be men again. Jordan Peterson said it best. We need this in order to make this place balanced again. 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

      There really is and I think it's a generational thing but aide from that quite a few vets i know complain a lot about small shit and use that as a crutch to get sympathy from others and not continue to be a badass motherfucker

      @@jeffd1337 I know it took me a long time to see it. I go to the VA quite a bit and know alot of guys their and they have the attitude of welfare scammers! It's pathetic. The big thing is Military Sexual Trauma (MST) and guys are claiming this more and more because it's basically hearsay and they get their service connection increase. Total bullshit!!

    I've said this multiple times when asked if I have any 'regrets' about my life; and I always say, I regret never having served in the military... I have the greatest respect for those who have served... Why?? Because all gave some, some gave all... As a man, as an American who can't respect that???

    Wow, never heard of this guy before today, but super impressive. Having been to war and started a business as a Vet myself, the things Tim said are kind of eye opening. Things need to change and I feel like this is giving me a different perspective that I didn't really consider before. Thanks for sharing it.

      Hate to break it to you guys...he ain't. See his last fight against Kelvin Gastelum. Kennedy took a brutal beating against Gastelum...who in turn got his lunch handed to him by Chris Weidman...who got pummeled by Luke Rockhold...who was knocked out by Vitor Belfort...who gut the crap kicked out of him by...wait...you guessed it...Kelvin Gastelum. I was in the martial arts for over 15 years. I'm confident in my skills...but I learned one lesson very early on. No matter how good you are, there's always someone better just around the corner on any given day. Be confident in your skills, but don't believe your own bullshit too much or you just may end up lying in it.

    Tim Kennedy is the epitome of why I don’t use my veteran status for anything. I’m a member of the VFW but not a lodge, only at large. I went into a lodge and the biggest feature there was the bar. Then they had the nerve to tell me I had to go through some sort of approval process to become a member of the lodge. They only did that on the last Monday of each month. I work for a living and at night so that was never going to happen. I don’t care about that part of the VFW, nor any benefits they offer. I refuse to buy a veteran hat because they are all made in China. Wtf is that about anyway?

      True, however I have found that only when "we" allow bad things to happen, obviously a lot of times we have no control over Murphy's Law of the tragedy or event, however we always do have a choice over the end result. All we have to do is focus on the solution, then fight until we get it.
