- January 17, 2020: I dragged Kari to Oregon on a classic "Randy Trip" to cross Crater Lake National Park off my list and then see as much of Oregon as humanly possible in just 3 days.

If you get a chance try seeing the southern Oregon coast to Brookings it is special. A side note, the entire Oregon coast is open to the public, no private beaches ever allowed.
did your rental car come with snow tires or snow chains? i never drove in snow but i really want to go to oregon during winter time and rent a 4WD or something that is safe for winter driving.
Rent AWD. Everyone was putting on chains but as long as you have AWD you'll be okay.

Cool video! How were you able to find out about the road closures and openings? We're going in November to some of the same areas in November. Is there an app or something that gives up to date road info?
Thanks, David. Mostly from Wyoming Department of Transportation (website w/ maps) plus whatever Crater Lake was posting about closures in their area. I bet Wyoming DoT probably has an app that would make it easier for you to check.
@@OutdoorDetour I think you mean Oregon instead of Wyoming. Thanks for the info! We may run into the same issues you had with the route from Crater Lake to Toketee Falls, so I appreciate the method for keeping abreast of what's going on with the roads.
What’s the name of the map app you are using?
Hi Katie, I use AllTrails for mapping every hike and Google Maps for mapping every roadtrip.
How many hours did you spend at crater lake? I’m trying to plan a trip kinda like this
Probably only like 6 hours. There was only one road in and from there you had to snowshoe everywhere so it was slow exploring but still awesome. We’re eventually gonna go back in the summer and ride bikes around the entire lake.
