    Just bought a new ATTO3. With dealer cashback and Qld Gov rebate $A42,000 - love it. My son has the dual motor Tesla - insanely quick but more likely to get you into trouble than out. I actually prefer the more mild regen braking on the Atto as well. I'm fairly disciplined with how I use brakes - never worn out a set of linings in car and trucks in my life. The brakes outlast the car. So the Atto is great for me. I only use the brakes that last few metres before I have to actually stop. My grand kids prefer the Atto to the Tesla.

I can't really comment on how long the BYD will last. So far it feels really solid and well built. When that 1000k battery comes out in the BYD's, why would anyone want a more expensive Tesla?

    China is a great equalizer and if your true goal is to make EVs ubiquitous and affordable, then you should really let the market decide and let the consumer decide on what's the best value. But then again, the overall boogeyman over all that energy and effort is the climate change issue and the health costs associated with that. So, you can't have it both ways in refusing to go for the cheapest tech available (Catl & Byd batteries) and complaining about lack of competitivity.

    However, at least you had a warranty on your PC and didn't have to wait months for spares to rock up that were more expensive than the original asking price.

    I'd like to see how Chinese cars hold up in Australia, Tesla took years to figure out how to make a decent car and even start to deal with service and spare parts, I would not buy a car from anyone who only uses some import export business as their point of presence in my country, that already happened in the US with cheap Chinese made tires, people died and then when people tried to sue the people responsible "the Chinese company" no one was available but the company that imported the defective tires and they quickly went out of business, what will happen for the next Takata airbag type recall thing happens? All the import - export companies that are importing these Chinese cars will go out of business and the cars will never get fixed.

    Global capacity to generate power from coal, one of the most polluting fossil fuels, grew in 2023, driven by a wave of new plants coming online in China that coincided with a slowing pace of retirements of older plants in the United States and Europe. The findings came in an annual report by Global Energy Monitor, a nonprofit organization that tracks energy projects around the world.
    Coal’s heavy greenhouse gas footprint has prompted calls for it to be rapidly phased out as a source of energy, and all of the world’s countries have agreed to reduce their dependence on coal. Industrializing economies, particularly in Asian countries with inexpensive access to domestic coal reserves, have set longer horizons for their transitions. China alone accounted for two-thirds of the world’s newly operating coal plants last year. Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Japan, Bangladesh, Pakistan and South Korea also inaugurated new plants, which typically operate for two to three decades.

    It is a mistake to think that the current slow down and glut in inventories of BYD, TLSA and others is indicative of consumers rejecting EVs. It is not. Rather, it is due to the current economic conditions of high interest rates and inflation. Many have forgotten that the Ukraine war increased fuel prices in Europe, which in turn brought about inflation. To counter that, governments increased interest rates, which further reduced the purchasing power of consumers for large ticket items. What's more, during covid, many offices and plants were shut down which created supply chain issues, and raised prices for cars (even bikes) and other items. This price shock was slow to be reversed, even when the supply chain issues were resolved and created an excess in deliveries, which the market could not absorb due to inflationary pressures. Finally, because North American legacy automakers are lagging behind TLSA and Asian brands in EV development, there is a campaign to brand them as too expensive and too difficult to service. One widely circulated story in Canada, claimed it would cost $60K to replace a battery in a Hyundai Ionic, because there was a dent found in the casing, a cost that was higher than the cost of the entire car.

    • @puzer1

      " One widely circulated story in Canada, claimed it would cost $60K to replace a battery in a Hyundai Ionic, because there was a dent found in the casing, a cost that was higher than the cost of the entire car."...are you insinuating that story was not factual?...because it's been documented more than once lol...

    • @bengt_axle
      @bengt_axle 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@puzer1 yes. There was an estimate from a single body shop, but no further information from other companies that were qualified to do the work or even attestation from Hyundai that a repair was necessary. Even the documentation shown in the video indicated that the unit price and to total price of the part was incorrect. Shop probably put in a ridiculous price, because they don't want to do the work; only want to be paid for estimate without dismantling the car. A battery like that, if it was completely destroyed would likely be $15-20K. By 2030, the same capacity battery will likely be around $6-12K because of the declining average costs. Perhaps it could be replaced with sodium ion, with no decline in capacity and a 40% lower cost.

    $30000 A for a new BYD would be be a more affordable price..

    Tesla has never been able to build an EV below €40.000 in the EU, so the Chinese would win that cheaper EV contest with ease.
    The masses cant afford a €40.000+.
    Those "staggering" and huge "slashing" for Tesla prices we hear about since day 1, always turned out to be fantasies.
    When that would have been true every time, the Tesla prices would start around €15k now 🤣🤣
