Tessie, I take 2 of the muffin mixes, add 1 cup of milk, 2 eggs, mix and bake in a loaf pan, at 350 degrees for about 1 hour. We have a slice of this with coffee in the morning. Cheaper than anything in the bakery, and freezes well.
When I was a little girl my mother would take me shopping with her. She would tell me if I could save her money and not go over the budget, I’d get the difference. Mission accepted and was successful. What a way to teach kids how to save money.
This is scary Tessie, I can’t even make it on my disability. My older brother helps me. I have some food saved up and a big bin full of rice and dry beans. I have 3 furbabies too. I order from Chewy for them. My rent for my one bedroom apt is so high. All I know to do Tessie is pray 🙏 sending blessings to everyone 💕🙏
Peppermint Patty, trust in the Lord with all your heart! read Psa 91 the Lord will take care of His people…if you read the word, Paul says he has never seen the righteous forsaken or His seed begging for bread. Stay in the Word and it will keep your faith strong. He will never leave you or forsake you.
See it as a challenge and not something to be depressed about see it as a way to think outside the box and see how much you can do with the little bit of money that you have you'll be surprised how well you can achieve at life with a little bit if you just change your mindset and think of what you can get with the money that you have you can still buy some things and create a good life but we just maybe won't be able to get everything we want so food can be still fairly cheap if you just look really hard and find some of those lower price items yet and create your own very unique meals God's got this I mean he's gonna take care of his people there's nothing to be scared about we are living in a time that is not none like others and we will succeed
Find a food pantry in your area some of them have volunteers who will pick out the food and deliver it to your home. My local food pantry even had a volunteer who will walk through picking food out while you are on the phone together so you can get the things you would use most.
Rarely go to Walmart, but thanks for the heads up. As an alternative, if you cook up the beef with butter in a pan, you can make your own gravy from the drippings and avoid all the chemicals in the gravy packs. Herbs and spices absolutely make things better.
Wow, scary stuff happening! Growing up as a child, my Mom quite often said, “ as long as we have potatoes, flour, milk and eggs we won’t go hungry.” She was proud of herself for being frugal and passed lessons onto me. I know how to make food stretch, but many others do not. Thanks for taking the time to teach what you know Tessie and bringing awareness to this news you heard.
Thank you. I was widowed two years ago. I had to adjust to a lower income. I already discovered using only 1/4 lb of ground beef goes a long way for just me. I also use a lot of pasta and create meals very cheaply. You are amazing and I really enjoy your pointers. I'm headed to Walmart tomorrow! Sincerely, Deborah
Tessie, you remind me of my wife. Very frugal and practical. She never buys anything that is not on sale we always shop the thrift stores for clothes. Too bad that our schools don't teach our children about living practical lives and more self sufficiency.
Thanks for this!! I used to make 1 pound of ground beef go for 4 meals when I was a single mom. It worked!! Our ancestors would have never sat down to eat a whole steak! Meat was always the condiment. We’ve gotten so spoiled in this country. Let’s go for it with these cheaper meals!! I’m in!!!
I agree I don’t know how people eat a lb of steak that’s crazy. I used to share a steak with my daughter and even then had leftovers. Good points to remember in this post
I used to find the best deals in the clearance section. Now I just pass it by. We have another clearance section tucked away in the food area. Sometimes I can find a few items cheap there. I’m well stocked but cont to buy just to be safe. We’re living in scary times!! My heart is heavy for the unprepared and those that are already just scraping by. ❤️
thanks for the warning. I was so glad I have a stocked pantry. I ended up in the hospital for a couple of days. I am home, but worn out. I have no one to cook for me. I am able to pull out jars of home canned meats and soups and have quick meals that don't make a mess or take too much energy to make. You never know when a personal emergency situation will come up. I now have enough in my pantry to get me back on my feet and out of the grocery stores until I can get back to work. If I didn't have this stuff canned and on my shelf, I would really be hurting right now.
@@HomesteadTessie thank you so much. I really appreciate that. I am just thankful that I have a stocked pantry shelf that I can use now that I really need it :)
Many prayers, Lori. That's a difficult spot to be in: dealing with illness when you're all by yourself. I'm glad you had some home canned items to use while you were recovering. Hoping you'll be feeling much better soon.
Just making gravy from scratch is one of the cheapest meal stretchers you can make. Gravy can be added over your pasta and you can make it in a variety of flavors. Thank you, Tessie! This is an important video.
Just want to share a home made economical version of rice a roni- 2cups rice (not minute rice) 1 cup thin spaghetti ( vermicelli or angel hair) broken into small pieces 4-5 Tbs bullion powder 2Tbs onion powder 1 Tbs garlic powder Mix together and store in a glass jar You can even use an old pickle jar! Should last about 6 months or so. At serving time- heat 2 Tbsp oil ( margarine, butter, veg out olive oil) over medium heat Add 1 cup mixture and saute till golden brown Add 2 1/4 cups water, bring to boil, cover and simmer 15-20 minutes. It's way cheaper to make your own at this point. Plus you could add some canned veggies and canned chicken and make a casserole out of it. Just an idea to stretch your grocery budget. Hope this helps someone. Credit to Miss Josie @ Cedar Creek Homestead for the recipe.🙏
Thank you for posting. I was wanting to know how to make rice a roni. and I have canned chicken that I didn't know what to do with. and I could add broccoli.
A tip for those frozen veggies. Dehydrate the veggies they are already flash cooked. Then you can dry can them and they stay good for a few years. You can rehydrate them when you want to use them. This saves space in your freezer.
On Homestead Heart’s channel yesterday, she talked about the lack of potatoes at their Walmart. She also said Walmart had up a sign telling customers not to ask if they’d be getting in more potatoes, because they simply didn’t know…but didn’t think so. Food shortages in the stores are getting worse every day. Demand and lack of availability are driving up prices everywhere. I’ve been building my pantry since the spring of 2020 when I couldn’t get eggs, flour, cornmeal, etc for a good while. I pressure can 85/15 ground beef when I can get it under $5.00 a pound. I bought cans of Keystone meats before they went up so high in price. They have a 5 year “best by” date. I bought a few cans at a time until I felt somewhat secure with what I have. Tuna, corned beef, and salmon I have also bought over time. None of my pantry has been bought overnight. I have been working on it for over two years, before any of these warnings came down. I never bought extras before that. I just had a “feeling” that it was a good idea. Chicken prices are so high that I have resorted to buying frozen leg quarters when I can find them, and even they are rising in price. Tessie is helping by alerting us to what her relative has been told. She’s a wonderful person and is trying to let us know. I have never known her to sensationalize anything for profit. I don’t think she is doing anything wrong by warning us to keep an eye out for what is going on. Tessie, we love and appreciate you!
Thank you for sharing this with us Tessie! Today is the 1 year anniversary of when my Mom went to heaven. I wanted to make her famous beef roast in memory of her today. I went to the store and a 5 pound chuck roast was over $40.00!! I was shocked! Left the store with chicken thighs instead. I literally cried in the parking lot over that silly roast! Yes I know my tears were really for my Mom, but the price of that roast just bulled me over. I know the Lord will provide. But it’s just so concerning for what is ahead for our loved ones. But thanks to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we have no need to fear the future! Thanks again Tessie for this video. God bless you! ❤️🙏
@@HomesteadTessie oh Tessie, I didn’t realize your mom passed on to the Lord in the same month as my mom, a year before! I will be praying for peace for you tomorrow! ❤️🙏
One tip about dry beans: You can store the dry beans for a long, long time. The one issue is that if they're old beans, they need longer soaking time before cooking and longer and slower cooking time. The older they are, the longer you should soak them before cooking and cook them longer and slower. Change the water once or twice during soaking and once or twice during cooking. I've always heard that you should cook beans in plain water, then add seasonings and other ingredients after the beans are soft.
Great Advice. That's because they lose moisture as they age, but if you keep them in airtight plastic containers, like Rubbermaid, they won't dry out as quickly. I always cook mine low and slow anyway, but this is good to know for those who don't.
My parents had some beans stored in our garage for a few years once. They literally boiled them 2 days and they were still crunchy. Heat damage. We ended up using it as a mulch. Be careful how you store them. Same thing with happen if you store them 20 years
I just cooked dry beans in instant pot. Here are 3 interesting facts: 1)I did not soak them first- just rinsed. 2)The expiration date was 2010( it’s 2022 as I type this) 3) They were delicious. My family had no idea until I told them how old the beans were.
@@YasuTaniina Prep items need to be in a cool place. Garages are too hot. Put under the bed or clean put a closet to store them. Use an unused bedroom as a storage room.
Thank you for telling us Tessie. I believe keeping a well stocked pantry and freezer is just plain smart. I'm 65 this September and know about pinching a dime. And to all those who don't believe this can get worse, it can.
Does anyone know where to get food at a reasonable price? I'm sure there are such places. Like, for instance, rents are advertised around the country at astounding rates and I haven't been too lucky or too unlucky so far, but my sisters have been in an apt complex for 15 yrs that is within a short walk to the mall and 3 adjacent corners of shops including 2 fabric/craft stores, restaurants, home goods, a former k-mart, and everything else they could need. A city bus runs frequently from the parking lot and a park and ride is also available to the major city about 1/2 hr away. There is a huge fitness center on the property & the membership is included in the rent. This year their rent went up $10 after being stable for many years. The complex is also within walking distance to civic centers for entertainment and is located in a thriving "yuppie" town. I'm saying things aren't all so grim as expected or as is being said. Yes, poor or low income ppl will hurt and many will die from lack of care, medicine, and despair, many will become homeless, but that has always been the lot of the poor except in times of great prosperity when middle income ppl feel generous w charity bc they have enough to share. So don't despair. There are places in the country to find a chance of survival and if you can't find one, dont waste the last of your money, there are other countries where you can live well on your disability or social security or the money you can make from online opportunities, find them on you tube videos and social media. Be well. Don't be afraid. Dont cry. Get busy and find a boathold. Love and luck.❤🎲
Your channel has really helped me save money and avoid wasting food! Before I used to go out and get ingredients for a meal, now I think about using up what I have first and think about what recipes I could make with what I have first. I also decided to date my leftovers by writing the date in numbers on masking tape. This helps me use older first. Since every month has the same numbers, I have decided to reuse the masking tape too. Once I use up leftovers, I return the masking tape numbers to the inside of a kitchen cabinet door where they are hanging in numerical order. Now I'll need to buy less masking tape and less sharpies too and I am also saving my time.
I've heard this info too--prices are going up and up. My Aldi today--all I can say is WOW! Prices are waaaay up! We all need to be stocking up on items now. Thanks for sharing your info. God bless, dearheart.
Yes! Aldi used to put a smile on my face - I was amazed at what I could buy- not the last time! It was sad to see that they had to increase also. I go to the local food pantry now.
Thank you Tessie for this heads up! We all appreciate knowing this ahead of time!! I also value your meal ideas. Being a single parent for any years taught me to cook frugally, but always open to new ideas!! God bless!
I believe you, Tessie. I've watched their grocery items rise week after week. WM is just down the road from me, but I'm going to do a little comparison shopping now. I'm making a cheat sheet of prices of my most frequently bought items because my aging brain just can't remember. Educated buyers will be those whose food budget stretches the best. Gone are days of just popping into the store and buying whatever appeals to you, without a budget or a meal plan. Keep preaching, Tessie. Your friends out here appreciate it.
Yes, I meal plan, shop the sales, stock up on sale items when possible, compare prices from store to store, plan trips to the store when we are going to be in that area anyways, haven't been to a restaurant or movies in several years. We don't shop for fun, we buy things out of necessity. We don't have cable or fancy phones It's counter culture but we are doing alright.
Tessie, I live in Canada, and your prices are still way lower than what we Pay here.... your previous poster Kayla Austin.... is just being rude,,,, Thank you for Sharing USA Prices :)
Yes I'm aware of that she has always been that way I'm just honestly telling you what was told to me 100% repeat it right from the person who just had the meeting people can believe it or not that's just up to them
My mother worked for Walmart for 16 years. Yes they did major decisions during a quarter so employees could not earn a bonus. All of the ideas are great. Alot of people don't know how to cook. They only know how to order out. Scary times. Heaven help us all. Cheap hot dogs too. Humble pie doesn't hurt anyone. Thank you for the ideas❤️
After all this time of watching you, I just realized why I get you...... It's because your like my Nan! My Nan ( my mom's mom) was great at making a meal from nothing! She was very content and came from a time when people had very little but made the most of it. Great post Tessie! Xx
Ah thank you so much my dear sweet friend as you could see I was pretty passionate in this video I don't know a lot about things but one thing I do know is stretching food and stretching that dollar which is getting harder and harder to do
@@HomesteadTessie you know a lot..... You are VERY wise!!!! Thankyou for giving good advice, I thought it was very informative and I hope that people (especially people not brought up with frugality) get to watch this and make their meals stretch!! All the best to you and your family! Xx
I don't shop at lot at WalMart anymore, but if it is going to happen there, I can see it happening elsewhere also. It is going to be so hard on the people that haven't been preparing already. I'm sure it is going to affect me as well in certain areas. Great ideas for people on the food. Thanks for taking time to do this.
I probably go to Walmart maybe twice a year maybe three times at the most I don't normally shop there either but I thought it would be a good opportunity to go there as I share this video you're right about that I think as the big stores what happens to them it's gonna trickle down to everyone
@@HomesteadTessie I only go there if I have to get something other than food. I usually shop Kroger and ALDI. I think when all this stuff hit in 2020, that’s when I really stopped, but it is the place that most people have to shop so good to show the place.
I haven’t been stocking up,but the opposite actually. Any time I try to stock up I end up either giving it away or tossing it,it’s been a huge waste of money,& time. Right now I’m trying to use up & get rid of nearly everything in our pantry. Then I’ll probably stock up a little on a few things we use but we eat mainly fresh foods & not so much packaged,& my sons dad won’t eat beans anyways. I can’t garden,it dies every time but all I have is a little patio anyways,no earth to use.
This is frightening to me. We’re already struggling to make ends meet. Our electric bill has already doubled with no changes to our usage among other price increases.
Thanks so much for the information. Anyone who has bought groceries lately must be aware of the skyrocketing prices. I am so thankful we have been able to can so much food this year and we will continue doing so. Every trip to the grocery store is astonishing when it comes to checkout. We shop at Aldi, and a local warehouse store and still it is sad. Thanks so much for all of your guidance in helping us to build up a substantial pantry which will certainly be helpful.
We live on SS, so we are definitely lower income. I enjoy your videos with budget stretching ideas, canning your own etc. Thanks for all you do to help us all live better.❤
Walmart spices went up 2 cents, their spices use to be 98 cents. The Walmart I shop at has spices for 98 cents so I will have to look the next time I go shopping to see if it went up. That is a 2% price increase.
I’m glad to see your are going back to helping and showing people how to shop and cook on the cheep, thank you so much Tessie, I have always loved your frugal meals 💕🙏
I think your relative misheard or misinterpreted. The big headline a few weeks back was that Walmart is 'doubling down' on sales and rollbacks in order to clear extra stock. In other words, putting prices DOWN, not UP, on many items. A little fact checking can often avoid spreading panic.
I haven't been in a grocery store in 2 years. I do use Walmart pickup and I have noticed the prices going up and up. I'm disabled and hate going into stores at all anymore. The prices have not gone up from where I buy my online produce and meat. It's not cheap, but it's a healthy alternative and at least it is available. A lot of items are very difficult to get anymore, even online. Keep up the good work Tessie sis! 💜
Just a heads up and yes, I know this sounds crazy but I was in Aldi's a week ago and they weren't marking prices up, they were marking them down. I live in Northeast Florida and this was happening in the Jax area. I bought as much of the cheese as I had money for. This isn't food that was going to expire soon. This was food that had good expiration dates on them. I got milk for 3.13 a gallon. I haven't found milk that cheap in several years. Not where I live anyway. I got Aldi brand Raisin Bran for 1.85 a box. My brother went to a different Aldi and found prices that he was used to paying had gotten cheaper. I'm not trying to say the prices went down a lot, just a few cents on dozens of items I looked at. Is this forever? No, I'm sure it isn't but get it while the getting is good.
Good morning… I stumbled on your channel when I woke up at 0500 this morning. 2sep22. 🥰. I love your simplicity and common sense of life. I’m binge watching… and I appreciate you sharing . Americans are going through very difficult times because of greedy, corrupt and insensitive politicians. I’m by myself with my pets. No family and I’m trying very hard to stock up and prepare. Blessings from Tampa Florida 🌴
Tessie, I have already seen price increases on certain items we stretch our meals the best we can and I always look for reduced prices and sales :-) I am also well stocked for the moment and always get a little more each time I shop :-) Good points Tessie we all need to be vigilant :-) Love you my sister :-) God Bless You and Ken :-)
Tessie, I was in a local Wal-Mart in middle Georgia yesterday. An employee was marking down some clearance items. Some items seemed to be at regular price, so I asked her about why some items were not really clearance. I told her that it makes it confusing for customers. She explained that some items were being deleted from inventory and would no longer be carried by the store. These items are last call but not reduced in price, therefore they are included in the clearance section. Made sense after she told me so you have to be very careful in the clearance section.
I tend to buy a minimum of two items when well priced. This helps stocking up painless. Recycling glass jar is best. Just cut off the front label and put between jar and the item with a date. I do store packaged items in the largest Dollar Tree plastic see through stacking containers as I can find.
Excellent video and your plans for helping others to be able to manage food and meals in these hard times. I grew up poor. People use to make fun of me saying I could make something from nothing. I considered it a talent but I knew they were making fun of me. They don't do it anymore. Now they ask for my help. I'm so grateful to my grandmother for teaching me so many things. She truly blessed me.
We have been making lots of hot dishes (casseroles). I use the drippings from meat, juice in canned meat (make my own gravy) and mix in veggies to go over noodles or rice-combine hotdish is one I do this time of the year-elbow noodles, browned HB, mixed veggies and tomato sauce with seasoning. With leftovers I top with some cheese and bake. 3rd day I make “grilled” hotdish sandwiches. The guys out combining seem to enjoy it plus I include a dessert (cookies or whoopie pies make a lot and I have some left over for the week). Stretching meat-add it to sauce-bbq, gravy, cream of mushroom soup or cream of onion…easy to make butter, mushrooms or onions and sauté. Add evaporated milk or cream and you have condensed soup. Add HB, mixed veggies and top with tator tots. When meat is really tight we toast bread, top with HB gravy, and veggies. I grew up that kids esp need protein at every meal. Thank you for giving us a heads up. Definitely difficult times that we can prepare for. For those struggling-it’s ok to ask for help! Food banks, churches, some places even have community gardens that people are willing to share excess produce from their gardens.
Thanks Tessie! Our grocery bill has already almost doubled over the last few months. We are tightening our belts, and everyday I am trying to preserve little bits and bobs, just to make sure we don't waste anything. My kid keeps looking at me sideways, but when she isn't hungry she'll be grateful, lol
Growing up I never had to worry about where my meals were coming from. A few time with my kids we struggled with meals. But we had something to eat. I watch on TH-cam where people cook up beans and add those to hamburger for meatloaf, casserole or burgers. Thank you for sharing this information.
Lisa, I'm about 5 feet. Have you ever had to ask a total stranger to reach down an item for you on the top shelf? 😀 I have. Pretty embarrassing, but sometimes it's the only option when it's something you really need!
At 5'2", I realized i needed to shout up at the ceiling, "Is anyone tall enough to reach something for me?" I almost always get a quick response, & they seem to take it as a joy to get it for me, thank God!
It's interesting how people note prices in other parts of the country have gone up, and people note bare shelves. Yet in my area of California shelves have never been empty, aside from baby formula. And fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat have been plentiful and a decent price. In fact, beef prices are great right now. Wonder if this is because things are grown here so trucking costs are lower.
This is going to really hurt those who rely on Wal*Mart for lower prices. They are struggling already. Thank you for the timely update. I used to work for Wal*Mart, many years ago, when Sam Walton was still alive. Got to meet him. He NEVER would have approved of the direction the company went. Take care Tessie! Stay safe & stock up. (Your garden is wonderful!)
I totally agree with you the sad thing is that's what's happened to a lot of these companies they started out with great principles and values and now look at them very sad even Hershey where I live near they sold it to out of the country much love to you my friend
Check and see if you have a Grocery Outlet in your area. Also Winco Foods employee owned stores. They both are lower than Walmart. That would be here in the west.
I find it's helpful to have a store app handy, when you aren't sure of a shelf price. Also you have it spot on! Stretch your food by adding something to it, to make it a full and complete dish. My family loves rice, pasta and beans, so adding a little of each to one dish fills them up! Thanks for sharing these tips!
I try not to go to Walmart. Walmart is so rude in my area. However I find those same prices in Aldi or in my local store. Thank you for the information and the way of cooking cheap. Your Walmart is cheaper than most areas.
That's scary 🤯, for those especially on low income, SSI disability.... LORD 🙏🏽 help us ❤️🙏🏽.stock piling, gardening, canning, saving, making do with what one has,and only getting what one absolutely needs, and praying 🌻🦋🙏🏽 this too shall pass, In the name of Jesus Christ 🙏🏽
Thanks Tessie for giving us an inside view of what to expect in the coming months, and for sharing your frugal recipes. I’m sure there’s a lot of people that watch your videos that are on social security like me. God bless you and your family 🙏
Good am Tess! I took your advice and went to Walmart today and started buying up staples to offset the upcoming prices. I bought pasta, can veggies, rice and pasta. Also got dried beans and gravy mixes. The brown gravy was only ,42 cents a PKG. I only spent 29.99! Went to Aldi's to buy my meat. Thank you for your help and for the first time I remembered to shop waist high and lower!♥️
Great ideas thank you! I never thought to use the packets like that. And you do have to watch the Walmart clearance and roll back prices. I've seen roll back prices that are more expensive than the price week before.
Thank you for this information. The price of groceries are ridiculous to say the least. Everyone needs to back to the olden times. Making cheap meals from scratch, canning, growing their own fruits, vegetables and herbs, making soap. My daughter and I are gearing up our gardens for Fall and next Spring. It makes me sad that this country is going in this direction. The young people need to learn home making skills, how to grocery shop, not convivence all the time. So glad my children do. They are in their 30's. My son built all his own raised beds this year. Please keep those videos coming on how to save money with everything nowadays. It is a sad shame. But Tessie you are the light of my evening watching your daily video. I am now going to start watching the older video's for tips and tricks, recipes to do. Plus I even started buying old cookbooks.
Thank you for sharing this information about food prices going up! I appreciate you taking the time to help us come up with cheap meal recipes and frugal tips. God Bless!
We are seeing that fast food places are closing the dining areas again, due to lack of employees. I can believe this Tessie and thanks for sharing. People are not going to go to work if they have to pay the high gas prices to get there, it just isn't worth it to people. Thanks for all the cheap meal ideas. We don't eat meat, but the meals you show can be substituted with mushrooms or even just eaten without any meat. We eat a lot of the brown gravy with mushrooms and onions added on steamed potatoes or mashed potatoes. Sometimes we put it over our pot pie too. Another easy cheap meal is baked potatoes. That is a filling meal and you can top it with almost anything. Thanks for sharing all the great videos!
My husband has been working at Walmart for just about 4 years. Management had some meeting recently and hasn't bothered to tell all the cashiers about the price increase, but I shop there often enough to see the increase. Do you know about their little packages of 3 cookies that were a dollar? They're now $1.46, so basically that 50% increase has hit already. It's still less expensive for me to shop there than Publix! Aldi is about the same as Walmart. Not everything has gone up but enough items did! And lately they had a big clearance going on in the clothing area.
You are absolute right, whether it came from corporate or not. Our milk prices have gone up, egg price has doubled and red potatoes were just shy of $8 for 5 lb. Have always been frugal with my spending, but it's becoming a real challenge.
It's happening globally. The whole world is suffering and experiencing some level of food shortages and high prices. Our electric costs in Hawaii is outrageous! Everything is going up. I wanted to quit work at the end of the year but I might not be able to now. Everything costs so much.
Tessie, I cook up the whole lb of burger and just use a quarter of it for each meal. That way you don't have to stop and cook the burger for each meal. We use a little burger in vegetable soup. Aside from the onions and celery, burger and vegetables, and some kind of tomato base...we add barley to it. Oh, I also take a cabbage and cut it into wedges and blanch it and freeze it. When I make the veggie soup, I chop up a frozen wedge of the cabbage and add it to the soup. Cabbage makes it extra good. A huge pot of soup makes alot of servings and you can freeze some quarts of it.
I love your meal stretching tips Tessie! Dehydrated unflavored TVP, (Textured Vegetable Protein) made from soy is another great way to stretch a dish. It takes on the flavor of whatever you are cooking. It has a long shelf life. It has an amazing meaty texture. And it’s cheaper than ground beef, chicken, turkey, or pork. That is, if you consider the long shelf life. And use it sparingly. With or without the other ground meats. Great for soups, stews, casserole, spaghetti, chili, & skillet meals like those for breakfast etc. 😋
I'm a newbie here but a few thoughts came to mind. I'm getting old but I remember the days when we lived off of commoditys. "Goverment food." The bullion cubes does a great job at seasoning food. Save bacon grease for seasoning. Make your own brown gravy. Be sure to buy powdered milk add a little sugar and let it get cold before serving. Powdered eggs, canned meat, canned milk, boxed cheese. We ate a lot of beans and corn bread too. Here's an easy peach cobbler recipe. I can sliced peaches, 1 cup of self rising flour, I stick of butter cut up. Mix all of this in a bowl and add enough milk to consistency of cake batter. Bake at 350° until flour rises and brown on top. I add some peach juice before adding milk so the breading will have some peach flavor.
Looking forward to you actually making the recipes that you touched on- it’s so hard when you’ve already been shopping as cheaply as possible. Appreciate all of your tips!
Tessie you're so right, prices continue to increase, so I shop at different stores (wherever there is a sale). Walmart is also changing prices at the register. A few months ago, I put spices in my cart that were on sale 88 cent's, at check out it was $1.12. I told the cashier it is 88 cents, she said okay (no it wasn't' a mistake) and charged me the sale price. I've heard about this same experience with Walmart at another youtube channel. Have a great day
Thank you for this Tessie. There are going to be many people inspired by these videos. Makes it feel like we are all in this together ♡♡♡ Bless you and your family!
Thank you for sharing this with us. I've actually seen a couple of items that look like they're already doubled in price - I almost fell over with shock.
I grew up a poor man and can make a lot of food for cheap also. I love seeing your ideas, we think alike! I stock up on condensed soup. It makes boring pasta and veggies yummy. I notice you too use it a lot. It's one of my hubby's favorite dishes. Soup mixed with whatever I need to get out of the rotation. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with in your poor man meals.
Excellent advice on stretching out the beef! You can also make a batch of homemade biscuits...stretches that meal out a little further, plus you have biscuits for breakfast with jam or apple butter. Or a package of cornmeal mix...make a batch of beef and pasta with a can of tomato sauce (add Italian seasoning blend) and cornmeal muffins on the side. Some of that beef to to make hamburger soup along with the frozen veggies, a bouillon cube and some small pasta shells or elbow macaroni. Add that gravy packet and biscuits on the side. Beef made into patties, fry them in a pan till done on both sides, save some of the grease, add a packet of gravy with water, let it thicken, add can of mushrooms and put patties back into gravy. Serve over rice.
Thank you for sharing this information. Wow doubling prices! I bought milk and was only allowed to buy one. They are limiting?! I don't know why? I always buy 2.
I've seen a lot of limiting at ALDI here in eastern Pennsylvania but I have not seen that in Walmart I'm guessing some of the things are regional but the price hikes are going to be everywhere from what I was under the impression
Oh Tessie I live in Ohio and meat prices are ridiculous 😑 I don't eat beef or pork but chicken is getting out of this world. I've taken alot of your recipes and tweak them for me but it sure is hard cooking for one. I freeze more than usual. I thoroughly enjoy your videos ❤️❤️
I don’t eat pork either but we eat beef (honestly I’d be vegetarian or vegan if I could). Our store had a sale $3.99lb, a-few days later I went back to grab a couple more,& the price went up to $7lb so I skipped it.
Thank you SO MUCH for this. I have been speaking of this time for several years! With what is coming...you will help many survive what is coming. May God bless and keep you and your family Praise God...He is using you for others. Thank you SO MUCH. Bless you This humble God warrior thanks you from the bottom of my heart!
I use Top Ramen noodles. Fry some meat and veggies, boil noodles, strain noodles and add to veggies in pan use seasoning packet or your own seasonings. I like the chili seasoning that comes with Top Ramen and I add soy sauce and sesame oil.
Tessie, I am a public school teacher and I can’t thank you enough for all your frugal tips. Teachers don’t make much and luckily it is just my husband and myself these days. Believe it or not, one if my best frugal eating tricks is to eat the cafeteria lunch at school! We often have families that do not apply because they are embarrassed about it and think everyone will know. But that is not true it is illegal actually and it can It is super cheap and because of state and federal laws it has to be well balanced with fresh fruits and vegetables every day. For those on a tight budget and/or that have a low income, please have them consider contacting their school to see if they can qualify for free or reduced lunch fir their children. I often grab an apple or orange and save that for snack or to eat later, or even the next morning. We have to get creative to make it work! Would love to see you be challenged with looking at other grocery stores besides Walmart. Sometimes our Harris Teeter or Giant has great loss leaders on their apps. It is worth going to two places sometimes. But then again I live in a large metro area, in Virginia outside DC, and we have many many grocery options close by. I look forward to seeing what you come up next!
Tessie Im going to WalMart tomorrow. You know I prep but I can't tell how long my storage will be. Some of the things you got I have already. Thank you so much for the heads-up. I need to look for your DIY videos for dry mixes. I went through all mine. Im so glad I started prepping with you years ago.🤗🤗❤❤
I love beans and rice!!! Grew up on them. I cook cheaply. And very rarely eat out. Thank you for your heads up. In NW Arkansas prices have already doubled and now they are tripling of the prices. Because of how rude they are at my Walmart, the prices, and the fact they expect me to ring myself up to shop there I refuse to shop there and goes elsewhere.
Sorry I also have worked for Walmart 20 yrs and I dont believe it. I went to the shareholders meeting a few years back and they tell the you what they think you want to hear and this would not fit . Employees would be the last to know.
That's all we can do. 🙏
You can make homemade food for your fur babies when needed. Look up Spots stew
Thanks for sharing!!
I'm Blessed as well to have grown up gardening and canning and my children are carrying on the tradition.
Your mom was a very smart woman❤️ She is absolutely right!!
Potatoes have been crazy expensive the the virus. Same 10 lb bag costs triple now.
@@tawanajackson5545 That’s great!
Prices going up by 50% is not doubling. They would have to go up 100% to be doubled.
I noticed too and was confused. 50% is more than enough.
"marked down"/clearance items are now MORE than what they were regular priced a year ago!!!
I found that to be true too I didn't realize that until I did this video I couldn't believe it the clearance prices were ridiculously high-priced
Oh my goodness I'm so sorry that you were in the hospital I will be praying for you please take it easy and rest
@@kesmarn thank you so much. I will take all the prayers I can get :)
Prayers for a quick recovery, I’m glad you prepared so you are able to manage through this…get better soon
Just making gravy from scratch is one of the cheapest meal stretchers you can make. Gravy can be added over your pasta and you can make it in a variety of flavors. Thank you, Tessie! This is an important video.
Just want to share a home made economical version of rice a roni-
2cups rice (not minute rice)
1 cup thin spaghetti ( vermicelli or angel hair) broken into small pieces
4-5 Tbs bullion powder
2Tbs onion powder
1 Tbs garlic powder
Mix together and store in a glass jar
You can even use an old pickle jar!
Should last about 6 months or so.
At serving time- heat 2 Tbsp oil ( margarine, butter, veg out olive oil) over medium heat
Add 1 cup mixture and saute till golden brown
Add 2 1/4 cups water, bring to boil, cover and simmer 15-20 minutes.
@@heathermaebrown3819 thanks for this info!
Mom made a pot of beans every week. I'm 75 and still love them.
my dear sweet friend has it been 1 year already ,I am so very sorry my mother died 2 years ago tomorrow

@@jeanetteschulthe1andOnly I needed the full 5 pounds to feed my extended family. It was a family gathering.
Here are 3 interesting facts:
1)I did not soak them first- just rinsed.
2)The expiration date was 2010( it’s 2022 as I type this)
3) They were delicious. My family had no idea until I told them how old the beans were.
@@YasuTaniina Prep items need to be in a cool place. Garages are too hot. Put under the bed or clean put a closet to store them. Use an unused bedroom as a storage room.
@Betsy Oman good ideas. Beans can also soften quicker if you add a pinch of baking soda to them while they’re cooking.
Thank you for telling us Tessie. I believe keeping a well stocked pantry and freezer is just plain smart. I'm 65 this September and know about pinching a dime. And to all those who don't believe this can get worse, it can.
Definitely going to get much worse! I'm in Ireland and prices just continuing to go up and up!
It will, much much worse, before it turns around.
Tessie, you are so right because I bought some items a few hours ago and the price is ridiculous.
So true about shopping lower level. Thanks for your time Tessie.
The up side of prepping, once you are stocked up you can wait for sales or discounts to buy or replace!
Outsmart them
Thank you Tessie for this heads up!
Yes I'm aware of that she has always been that way I'm just honestly telling you what was told to me 100% repeat it right from the person who just had the meeting people can believe it or not that's just up to them
Very , very good video Tessie…
Wise woman you are….

Tessie, thank you for this video. I think everyone needs to hear this even if it is very scary.

Thank you Tessie for this information on food prices, and tips on creating simple meals. We all need to learn all we can to stretch our food supply.
Thank you Tessie. I have noticed some items that have increased in price AND simultaneously decreased in size.
Scary times ahead. More reasons to can, freeze, dehydrate and store it.
@ Eileen Lester,💜
Always check the dollar general market stores, they mark down meats and vegetables 50%. I always check when I go in
Just a heads up and yes, I know this sounds crazy but I was in Aldi's a week ago and they weren't marking prices up, they were marking them down.
Aldi has a 10 lb bag of fresh chicken 1/4's. They were 4.69 in April. ...I saw them for $7.99 on Monday. Exact same chicken brand and product.
Good morning… I stumbled on your channel when I woke up at 0500 this morning. 2sep22. 🥰. I love your simplicity and common sense of life. I’m binge watching… and I appreciate you sharing .
@ Owen, I too agree !
Hi Owen 👋 have a great night 😊
Thanks for the heads up! I appreciate the creative & frugal meal ideas, too.
Thank you for the warning, Tessie! I pray we all can prepare. We're in this together.
I work at a Walmart in Pa. I don't buy anything there unless it's on clearance or absolutely necessary. I think their prices are crazy too!
Insane lately
Growing up I never had to worry about where my meals were coming from. A few time with my kids we struggled with meals. But we had something to eat. I watch on TH-cam where people cook up beans and add those to hamburger for meatloaf, casserole or burgers. Thank you for sharing this information.
I did not know the waist and below pricing. Thank you, Tessie! I am only 4'10", so I should be able to find the lower prices items easily.
Lisa give it a try and let me know what you think and see if it works that way for you we were told that many years ago by corporate grocery store
I've heard for years the top shelves and the bottom two.
They want us to buy what's at eye level because it's more expensive.
Can I borrow you, O Tall One? Works like a charm….never embarrassed. LOL
Wish we had an Aldi.
My Aldi prices have really gone up in SC.
You are so welcome
I used to buy those cookies all of the time but I stopped. I can get a large package of cookies at Aldi for that price.
Welcome to My Channel. I am so honored to have you here! I hope you continue to enjoy My videos
@@HomesteadTessie Thank you, I'm sure I will.
Looking forward to you actually making the recipes that you touched on- it’s so hard when you’ve already been shopping as cheaply as possible. Appreciate all of your tips!
Tessie I really appreciate your videos. I am low incme on social security. You cooking tips really are helpful.
Thanks Tessie. Love it when you share meal ideas!
Have a great day
Thank you Tessie for letting us know - I love your budget videos - they are so helpful.
You are so welcome thank you so much Peggy there's gonna be a lot more coming
Thank you again. I cannot imagine how many people you are helping. Keep teaching us better ways. You were born for this time💕
Wow, thank you
Thank you for this Tessie.
Love that!
Thank you Ms. Tessie. This video was full of helpful tips🙂👍🏾❤
Under the Median sent me. Wow…she was right! You have great ideas for meals. Great advice. I’m happy I came over..😀 Michigan here
Thank you so much they are a wonderful couple and welcome to my channel and I hope you continue to be blessed by it
Thank you for sharing this information.
Thank you Tessie for showing how to save and to stretch meals. You’re a blessing to many!
May God bless and keep you and your family
Praise God...He is using you for others. Thank you SO MUCH. Bless you
This humble God warrior thanks you from the bottom of my heart!
Doubling or 50% increase? Thank you for sharing this. My life is going to drastically change either way. Thankful I never stopped prepping.
I'm guessing we won't see anything for dollar anymore things like noodles and stuff like that will be $2
@@HomesteadTessie i better stock m up my gluten-free flour tomorrow.
I buy the discount bread to feed my racoons... and one possum...but better stock up ...look like storm coming.....m
A good majority of dry grocery items have already increased by 50% I stock on 3rd shift and see it daily .
I use Top Ramen noodles. Fry some meat and veggies, boil noodles, strain noodles and add to veggies in pan use seasoning packet or your own seasonings. I like the chili seasoning that comes with Top Ramen and I add soy sauce and sesame oil.
Thank you tessie for the heads up....your and angel...prepare folks
My goodness Rick my brother where have you been it's good to hear from you after all these years
Good evening Rick, Been a long time so good to see ya :-)
Thank you so Much !!!
That is absolutely amazing my friend
I love beans and rice!!! Grew up on them. I cook cheaply. And very rarely eat out. Thank you for your heads up. In NW Arkansas prices have already doubled and now they are tripling of the prices. Because of how rude they are at my Walmart, the prices, and the fact they expect me to ring myself up to shop there I refuse to shop there and goes elsewhere.
Happy Tuesday Tessie……
Thank you, Tassie for all you do for us! ❤
I also watch Rhoda Stone on doing exactly what Tessie ❤️does 🤗
Sorry I also have worked for Walmart 20 yrs and I dont believe it. I went to the shareholders meeting a few years back and they tell the you what they think you want to hear and this would not fit . Employees would be the last to know.
