Lots of people live without running water, Tessie. About 1/3 of Alaska lives that way. There's nothing to be ashamed of. You live your life how you can, making the best of it, and those who criticize should be ignored. You live debt-free, on a BEAUTIFUL piece of property in a nice home with your family close by. I say you live very well, and most importantly, ON YOUR OWN TERMS. Much love to you, my friend, for your honesty, humbleness, and can-do attitude. We need a lot more people like you in this world.❤❤❤
Tessie I am getting rid of my carpet. Dusty and unhealthy to breath with my asthma. My humble one bedroom apt will be finished by this Sept. I am 70 years young and I needed the safe rehab of my place. It is a new journey for me.
As we age, some of us learn to roll with the ups and downs in life and stop getting upset. Instead we sit down and figure out how to make it work, go around it, do without it or find a way to fix it. It's called maturity.
Dear Tessie, I have been watching your channel since the very beginning. I live in Greece and in recent years, after the bankruptcy of our country, your videos have helped me more than you can imagine, not only in eliminating the debt but in the way of thinking. It is not easy these days to live frugally, without being ashamed or feeling guilty about it. I went through all the stages- the denial, the anger, the acceptance. I matured with you. We are now out of toxic debt feeling blessed and free. And I'm even more humble than before, letting everyone else do what they think is right. Now I know that this is the way of the Lord. Your work is a blessing for so many of us. Thank you, my dear.
I Want to thank you so much for your kind words, and your encouragement I had to read your comment two times to just really take in all of the amazing things that you had to say you truly have inspired me to day thank you again for taking the time to share with me a little part of your life and how I have blessed you because my friend you really blessed me today
You have made a wonderful, beautiful life for you and your family.... and for all of us! Thank you for being brave enough to show us your journey! Love and blessings to you and all our friends here.😊❤
I wish more people thought like you and your husband. When we obtain debt, it is our debt to pay off. My husband and I did something similar, paid off everything and never had debt again, been 33 years. We sold a beautiful 2600 sq ft home and moved into a 900 sq ft 'cabin' with two teenagers. Joy comes from within and you are loved.
Lots of people in diffrent parts of the country lived and do live like you use too. But so glad you can have things better now.❤ Your genuineness and wisdom help us all.
The feeling of contentment is such a blessing. It’s okay if we don’t have a lot. We need to be happy and content with what we have at the moment. God bless your weekend. 🤎🤎🤎
Congratulations on getting your home fixed! You mentioned not growing up in a lifestyle like you were living and yet you got through and learned to make it work. That is fantastic! I am happy for you and appreciate the joy you want to share with all of your subscribers.
My mom n dad had eight children. We lived in the country .We had a cistern n out door toilet. In 2009 we had a big ice storm. We were left for eleven days n night. No electric,no heat , Our temperature went down to four degrees. My husband n I knew how to protect ourselves and our home.
You have created a beautiful home and land. It is your haven. Don’t let anyone tell you any different. Don’t worry about the views. Part of it depends on how busy they are. Is it nice outside? Holidays? It can make a difference
Tessie, You and Ken have come a long way I remember first discovering you so many year ago you and Ken have done a lot making your home a dream home :-) Love you my Sister :-) God Bless You and Ken :-)
Tessie, you have the cutest little place to live, and you decorate it so cute . Now that you have those additional things, it should make life simpler. We aren't getting any younger. Nice voice you have there too!❤
Tessie, you are the epitome of what hard work and perseverance can accomplish. I've watched you forever, and I'm enjoying and thrilled to see all your accomplishments. God bless, I'm so happy for you!
This is one of your best videos! I know for me, growing old was one of my biggest challenges. Seems like one day you realize you can't do alot of the things you used to do. Learning how to let go of some things is hard. But when you do accept it, you can do what you can and be content with that. You have a beautiful homestead. All your hard work really shows! Love and God's blessings to you!
Tessie, I started watching you when you were at 26,000 subscribers and you have taught me so much. You motivate me and many others who watch your videos. You taught me how to can food and start a pantry. I canned your Bake Beans last year and getting ready to make another batch...they are so good. So many canning recipes you have taught me....jelly/jams, home canned chicken soup, carrots with onion soup mix, mustard dipping sauce, Zucchini Hot Dog Relish, and so many more. You inspired me to declutter and organize, this is still a work in progress but seeing the results is motivating me to continue. Nothing happens unless you do it....right! and if you have time to lean, you have time to clean. Thank you Tessie for your inspiration and your willingness to share you wisdom and knowledge of just about everything!
Structural problems only get worse and more expensive if left go. As you get older if you get injured it takes longer to heal and if you have physically demanding things that must be done and you can’t do them you have problems. I’m glad you fixed these things and can now enjoy your home and be more secure as you and Ken get older.
Tessie, all the things that "happened to you," were really "happening for you." You would have never learned all you did/ got TH-cam channel/ been able to help others/ become the strong woman you are today/ had the ability to have a practicality brand new home now/ been as close with Kenny as you are, got all kinds of free stuff, and love packages! So you see, it didn't happen to you, it was all for you! Tell Scott this as he is going through what he is going through. I would have never gotten to know you, and that would have been a blessing I am grateful I didn't miss out on! ❤❤❤🐞🐇🍒
One of the many things I like about watching your channel is that I too grew up very well off financially too and am about the same age as you and got married at 20 and have been below poverty ever since then. My sister and Dad do not have anything to do with us because of this. There's only well off people who live in this area. And also most everyone around are in great health and my Husband does not. So I love watching you loving your life since I love my life too. Most would not.
My dear Tessie ♥ I love listening to your stories! Before moving I lived in a house in Washington state for 20 plus years that looked okay at first glance but had a lot of issues! At first it was not too bad but as the years progressed it changed to leaky pipes, no heat, etc. The owners were elderly and my calls sometimes went unheard. But, as everyone else's rent was going up mine stayed the same. This house fit my budget through all the seasons of my life! When job losses occurred the house was still affordable! I used portable heaters and washed dishes in the tub! I raised my kids here and they had no clue lol. Later in life when I was making a lot more money and no longer living month to month I had no desire to leave this house. I knew all its "quirks"! Because of the low cost of living due to my rent I was able to start my debt free journey in 2020 when I started to really open my eyes! I somehow knew it was just the beginning! Never had the world shut down for a coronavirus. Why now? I watched people worry about feeding their families because all the easy food disappeared from the shelves and the restaurants were closed. People did not know how to make whole food by scratch. I watched the price of housing go up. I watched more and more people becoming homeless. Later the price of gas began rising and along with it the cost of food. Meanwhile, I was safe in my cheap home with its "Quirks" and my debt free life and my lovely pantry I had built! After getting debt free we started saving. We had a new goal! A home of our own! We had one thing that was at the top of our list! It had to be under what we had in cash! We did not want a mortgage! And it had to be livable. Everyone has their own idea of what livable means. Mine is a shelter in the storm! A roof over my head that doesn't leak and shades me in the summer and keeps me warm in the winter. The rest I can work with! Technically you can make anything pretty with enough work! So began our journey for a house! We found a house on a little property 1800 miles away! We paid $23,000 cash sight unseen and became home owners! We hired someone and paid cash for a new roof, a natural gas heater, and a hot water tank! It has 4 bedrooms and 1 bath and no room is the same color or has the same flooring! There are no closets so a small bedroom is now a walk in closet! We still need to build more inside storage so the other small bedroom is serving to store our boxes that are not unboxed yet from the move. Imagine the treasure that await unseen for almost 10 months now. The landing serves as a makeshift pantry currently as well as a bedroom wall that is wall to wall shelves! As we sort out what our new simple, and frugal life will be I remember those 20 plus years that have made me appreciate the simpler things in life! We have a lot of plans for our "quirky" livable home! It may not look perfect yet but it is ours! On this journey of life and through all the seasons Tessie as we grow older (and gain wisdom) we begin to realized that everyone's perfect is not ours. Personally I am very happy living this life then trying to keep up with the jones! I feel very blessed to feel secure in these days! I live in an area that I feel very safe in!
Yes we do ALL learn as we go. That is life. You have come a long way Tessie. Now you can enjoy the hard work and accomplishments you have accomplished and save again for next projects. You have your place looking great. Have a great evening everyone!
When I realized I needed to bloom where I was planted. I found your channel, now I know in this area I’m the most creative and that’s when I feel like I’m most alive and bringing abundance to my own situation. Thank you ❤❤❤❤❤
Tessie… I only recently found your channel and watching you is helping me through a tough time right now. I really need to slow down and live a simpler life, this world is just too draining, but I’m finding so much peace with your videos. You have a beautiful home and you are a very beautiful soul. Thank you for making life more bearable right now 🥰
God provides when we really need it. There is so much in life that we could have lived without. There are things other people need and we just have stored up. We need to pray for our neighbors and help them too. You and your family is inspirational. God has Provided.
You brave girl! You sing real pretty! I dont know that I'd be able to open myself up to possible meanness from people. I have thought about it. You handle it so well. You always reapond in love. I enjoyed this one sis. God bless you all and everyone on here. ❤
Thank you for keeping it real. I so admire how hard you've worked over the years to make your house a home. You always find a way to find some good in every situation in life. I think you've made the right decision to have the repairs done on the house. You will be able to grow old in that house and you have surrounded yourself with the things you love. The garden and your plants give you so much joy and it will make money for you someday soon. I wish we all could go back to living a simple life. There is so much bad and negativity in the world. Coming to your channel is like a breath of fresh air. It gives me hope that we can go back to living the way we did when we were kids. The world was a much nicer place and people genuinely cared about each other. I think you are a great role model for the young adults whom are starting out in life now. Keep on making these videos. You are making a difference in the world.
Hi Tessie, I want you to know that you are a blessing to me. I admire everything that you do. You are an encouragement. Thank you!! Please keep sharing.
My happiest time is when I had nothing. I just worked to keep a roof over our heads and food for the belly. Life ebbs and flows I go with it. I try not to worry about why, but I do. I pray and go on. I admire you so much! I Thank God for you sharing your life with me.
Hello Tessie from Canada, I came out of a marriage of 30 years and if it wasn’t for u and your postings educating me in my older age I don’t I’m not sure how I would have gotten through it. So thank u , god bless and please keep sharing as we can all use some Tessie ❤
One thing that helps contentment is to think. Ack on your blessings! I too want new carpets, but it’s easier to be content knowing we got a whole house generator installed and we won’t have the basement flood in a power outage, Lise a bunch of fridge and freezer food, or even be inconvenienced. Carpet will come. Sometimes when we knock one project off the list, it feels like we can easily forget how much we wanted to get it done.
What a blessing! Im going through something like this, and I had to create a composting toilet because of things not working correctly in the home. I always wanted to learn how to homestead and live off grid, but my family thinks it is horrible for my kids to live in a non conventional way. Our home is clean, there is food in the kitchen, and ac/ heater, so I consider this being their needs that are being met. This made me feel better to not care what anyone thinks, and to be content on raising your own family in the unique way God created all of us to be. My dreams aren't big, I would love to work from home. Selling herbs and jam❤
I hear you Tessie, you make the best with what you have at the time. I find myself struggling with contentment. There is so many repairs and wants that I have and need. My husband and I have always lived below our means. His goal is to make sure we're provided for and I'm secure and debt free when his time comes, so in doing that things got pushed to the side and let go. Now we're starting to make those repairs and improvements.
Tessie, you are a brave, adventurous, and accepting soul with your head firmly planted on your shoulders. You have taken a tough situation and made it a beautiful home. People who claim they can't fetch water or use kerosene lamps, etc, need to go visit any third world country and appreciate how spoiled we are in the USA. The critics will be the first to go when the economy nosedives (if and when it does), yet you will be leagues ahead of them given your homestead and practical knowledge. You are a leader in your field! There's no shame living frugally. However, I look askance at those who grossly waste money without a thought when there are people in our country that call a tarp "home". ❤❤❤
One of your best videos so far - honest, insightful, empathetic, vunerable, encouraging and inspiring! Your hard earned wisdom shines through! Thank you so much for sharing!
The different stages of life always bring us more wisdom, if we are lucky enough to recognize it. I am in my mid-60s now and was still staying pretty active when I was faced with a major health issue this summer. It has made me rethink what I will be able to do as I grow older once I'm done with all the treatments and surgery. Things I would have loved to have done if I was 15-20 years younger will have to be scaled down a bit. Like you, I'm trying to think what can I do now to prepare for when I may not be as physically able to do what I can do today. Funny how we thought we would be invincible to our very last day when we were younger! I'm so glad to see you and Kenny making things comfortable at your home so you can enjoy the many years you'll have there together.
I was happy when I heard you were modernizing your home! I felt that something catastrophic could mess up one or both of you, and that extra work would be impossible to you. Consider adding hashtags on your videos for those who are aging on a budget. I anticipate that you will gain another big group of people.
Hi, Tessie. It's wonderful that you were able to have your plumbing fixed. Things do get harder as we age, and this will be a blessing for you now and in the years to come. You're so right about contentment being a mindset and about needing to accept the journey we're on. It brings more peace to life when we focus on what we do have instead of all we don't, and it also brings more peace when we stop fighting against the journey (although that's easier said than done sometimes 🙂). Have a blessed day.
Tess I raised my kids very poor. I had a mobile home. Little water from a well that was dry a lot. I taught my children life skills. They are survivors because of it. It was hard. We are better humans because of it. People have it wayyyy to easy these days. I’m proud of you. Very proud of you.
Tessie, you are such an inspiration. Since the first time I watched your videos, I have admired your sweet spirit, your kindness, and humility. Like you, I'm growing older. And I'm finding that I'm happier. I'm learning to accept myself. And I'm trying to minimize my disappointment when others don't. Thank you for being you, Tessie. ~Sherry ♥
The best thing you did was fix it now. As you get older it gets harder to keep up. At 77 I know and my health is not bad. Aging is just aging. Fix it now and then save.
We have an aeration system septic. Grew up w an outhouse! Life can be a struggle..I'm thankful I'm a country girl! I know how to live without, make do, get er.done..
God doesn't give anyone more than they could handle. No matter what category you find yourself. Give God Thanks for the Blessings he has given each of us. You will be happy in the end when you realize that all your hard work will make your senior years easier. 😉
As we sge our homes ( hopefully work with us not against), not wear and tear on us!what I could do 27 years ago my okder ( now56year old body ) say ehhhhh, NOPE! No can do! Ive learned to make things easier on myself😊
I cannot figure out why people would be upset about the way you live your life. Someday they might need the skills that you are sharing. The world is a crazy place these days. God bless you, Tessie.
Ive done the hauling water over 400ft straight up a hill while raising my children. Everything was manual labor back then. You sissy are content. You show it in your personality each and every day. You have been showing all I work hard with a cheery grateful heart! Its great you are getting upgrades. I always say, " Work smarter not harder." You get to enjoy this chapter of your life more easier. Thank you Lord Jesus! ❤❤❤
Good Morning Tessie, Sisters, Brothers, and Friends, Wish you all a wonderful Blessed Sunday filled with Gods Joy and Happiness :-) Remember to pray for one another and for all around the world :-) God Bless You ! Love you all :-) Keep Smiling be safe :-)

Good evening to you Tessie ❤😊
Good evening Tessie.
Great message Tessie.
Hi Tessie, I want you to know that you are a blessing to me. I admire everything that you do. You are an encouragement. Thank you!! Please keep sharing.
Thank you so much!!
My happiest time is when I had nothing. I just worked to keep a roof over our heads and food for the belly. Life ebbs and flows I go with it. I try not to worry about why, but I do. I pray and go on. I admire you so much! I Thank God for you sharing your life with me.
Bloom where you are planted and you did! You have a beautiful singing voice.
Hello Tessie from Canada, I came out of a marriage of 30 years and if it wasn’t for u and your postings educating me in my older age I don’t I’m not sure how I would have gotten through it. So thank u , god bless and please keep sharing as we can all use some Tessie ❤
I started watching you because of your oil lamp collection!
We love your honestly and never sweat the people who hate. We love you keep living well enjoy your life.
Wonderful subject Tessie.
Wow Tessie you really have a lovely voice! Keep smiling and singing 😊
What a lovely song! Stay blessed Tessie!
You are a precious person! We all just love who you are! Thank you for sharing your life with us!! ❤
Thank you so much for your kind words I sure do love all of you
One of your best videos so far - honest, insightful, empathetic, vunerable, encouraging and inspiring!
Such wisdom, Tessie! Thanks for sharing all this.
You have worked so hard, you deserve all the blessings you are now receiving ❤
Happy weekend Tessie ❤
