See, that's why I rarely have chefs as dinner guests. And one of the few times I did I bought some very rare and high end ingredients and told him to have fun. It was absolutely delicious and he told me that that was one of the nicest evenings he's ever had. No stress, a lot of mess and we knew it was gonna be great.
I think the boys should be able challenge each other's badges. So for instance, if Barry wants to, he can challenge for a "plating" or "photography" badge, and they do a head to head, and he can possibly take the badge from one of the other boys.
well she did say take a dish and twist it. this is Barry being given a dish. (he would have given it a twist in general) and then asked to really give it a twist. They just asked Barry to be Barry and then make it even more Barry. the only other twist he could have made is to twist so far it goes back to the actual dish

imo, the only one that really counts as a "twist" on her recipe was Jamie's, because it was just a couple simple changes. The other two were almost entirely different dishes, but inspired by her recipe. Still a good show from everyone.

I have to disagree. I don't feel like Barry or Mike did a "twist" on the dish, they made a completely different dish instead. While Jamie's attempt was pretty weak, at least it was a change to the actual dish and not a different thing.
While Jamie's one was a pretty simple twist (adding bacon and not changing anything), I kind of think Mike's one went too far beyond the boundaries of a twist into its own thing. At least with Barry's you could still say "oh yeah it's fried pasta", but Mike went from "pesto egg in wrap" to "lentil salad with fried eggs on top".

Maybe I'm wrong but when I hear "a recipe with a twist" I still expect the original recipe just with something extra or modified. The only dish that was at all recognizable as the original was Jamie's. For Mike's recipe, the only thing in common with the original was that it had eggs. But hey, I'm not the special guest judge and it was still a great video.
For Mike's I think it was a twist on the original pesto eggs, poppy added the wrap as far as I could tell. So Mikes twist was replacing the oily sauce of pesto with the harissa and doing other flavours to complement that.
I honestly felt like Barrys was the best "twist" Although bacon would be a good addition, it is more like the next logical step. Mikes dish took the simplicity and ease of use of the wrap and made it a completely different, much more complicated dish. Barrys took the premise (snackable fried pasta) and took it in a slightly different and inventive direction!
I think Mike gave the dish a moroccan twist. I would eat it in wrap though (not necessary a standard wrap bread. It would be great in a thicker flatbread)
Poppy fits in so unbelievably well with the group, would love to see her partake in more videos. Her vibe, expertise, cuisine - would almost be too soon to say, but could fill the role of the second chef on the channel
Damn, the Humor and salt levels were pretty high in this video. And I'm so so here for this. This was really entertaining and probably one of my favourite collaborations so far.
Poppy should definitely be a regular chef on the show since James’ departure - fitted in better than any guest you’ve had in my opinion! P.S. you’re all legends, keep up the awesome work!
She really is a great fit. I can't put my finger on what it is, but she's bringing something to the table that's been missing. I feel like it would be good for the show to have a counterweight to Ben. He's been doing a great job since James left, but having someone else there to reflect with him on everything that the boys are cooking is something the show needs I feel like.
A creativity challenge and Jamie's entire thing was 'add bacon to it'? Mate, you were never gonna win that. I mean yours is the one I want to eat the most, for sure, but come on!
He stayed in the lane, did what the actual dish was with a twist, didn't totally derail like Mike's and Barry's they went to another dish altogether, Mike's didn't even have a tortilla, the only similarity was the eggs other than that nothing to do with the original dish.

Mike's was definitely clever, but I thought Baz had a great twist on his too, I could've seen him get the badge too. Jaime, while it was a twist, it's not exactly clever if I can look at a recipe and go "oh he's just going to add bacon and call it a day" and be right before even seeing his twist
Kinda bothers me how Poppy said that Baz wasn't making a pesto "in any way shape or form".......but it actually had all the ingredients of a pesto just adding mint.
I mean it didn't have parmesan either and if you're getting super technical he made it in a food processor. Real pesto is made in a mortar and pestle. It was definitely more green sauce than pesto
You could tell Poppy was trying not to steal the show as a guest, but even then, she was awesome. If she gets more comfortable and lets her personality shine through more... keep her around for more than just one pass it on?
Mike could so easily have made that dish into a tortilla wrap, just put the wrap on the plate, add lentil salad and slide on the eggs same as he did. I really thought she was going to give the win to Barry when she said it was the dish that pushed the boundaries the most. He really stretched the recipe.
On Jamie's instead of the sauce he went with I would have gone with a spicy cheese sauce/fondue. Something with a really subtle flavor that just would have given it that melty, gooey quality that goes so well together with bacon and potatoes.
I have the feeling, the boys need a new second cook that makes the group hole again. Having two cooks with quite different personality in there gives the channel a different kind of energy.
Based on what I observed(with quick review on the difference on the dough/pastry), the recipe becomes ravioli if you boiled the pasta but if you fry/bake the pasta it becomes empanada.
Such a great episode. Poppy is an absolute joy😂. My favorite part of this episode was the dynamic between Poppy and Mike. Followed by Mike losing his s*** on Barry for doing the exact same thing that Poppy did in her recipe.😆🌯
Of all the guests you have had, Poppy is most definitely my favorite. Personality, she has an amazing laugh and she is expressive and does not seem to be scared of the camera! I hope she returns (regularly)!

The moment I saw those pasta chips come out on the plate I immediately thought, "pasta cannolis would be awesome!". Yet not in such a way as to place a target on my back for and OG mafia hitman to come to my house for the audacity to utter that phrase...
I don’t like that the food team is obviously preparing the dishes of the normals which they cook. They don’t even know what the food that they cook tastes like and it’s less of a battle between them and their approach rather than the food team. They are just replicating someone else’s food and not really giving them their own twist. At least that’s what it feels like to me!
Poppy would be *amazing* for pass it on. Humor, charm, personality, confidence and most of all, enough knowledge to keep the guys guessing, and/or save the mess they make.
I feel Jamie should have won, because his was the only real twist of one of her recipes to me. The others just... were so far out there I didn't recognise the original in them anymore as a viewer. Mike and Barry used tons of different ingredients, whereas Jamie just made one change. I feel we need to remember that these are originally Tiktok trend recipes, and a key aspect of those is simplicity... but I don't see the latter two as something that could possibly be communicated in a single tiktok for someone to reproduce, even if they knew the original already.
I'd have agreed with either Jamie or Barry winning but Mike's lentil salad? No, can't see that ... especially when everyone said it would have been better with a wrap.
When I've made ravioli (dessert of otherwise) I find it really good to use an ice cube tray for a mould. Lay the pasta into the tray, push into the holes, fill, wet the pasta and seal it. Then turn it out and cut it into very full little ravioli. Also makes it easier for consistency and getting the air out.
So who else is here after Poppy admitted to giving Mike the badge just because it was the only name she remembered :D

I think Baz should have gotten it. He fried pasta. The twist is he took it from a snack to a dessert. I would have ranked them Barry, Jamie, Mike.
For Mike's I think it was a twist on the original pesto eggs, poppy added the wrap as far as I could tell. So Mikes twist was replacing the oily sauce of pesto with the harissa and doing other flavours to complement that.
I honestly felt like Barrys was the best "twist" Although bacon would be a good addition, it is more like the next logical step.
Mikes dish took the simplicity and ease of use of the wrap and made it a completely different, much more complicated dish. Barrys took the premise (snackable fried pasta) and took it in a slightly different and inventive direction!
I think Mike gave the dish a moroccan twist. I would eat it in wrap though (not necessary a standard wrap bread. It would be great in a thicker flatbread)
To be fair short of just going with some other veggies I don't know what other option there really was.
Poppy fits in so unbelievably well with the group, would love to see her partake in more videos. Her vibe, expertise, cuisine - would almost be too soon to say, but could fill the role of the second chef on the channel

She really is a great fit. I can't put my finger on what it is, but she's bringing something to the table that's been missing. I feel like it would be good for the show to have a counterweight to Ben. He's been doing a great job since James left, but having someone else there to reflect with him on everything that the boys are cooking is something the show needs I feel like.

He stayed in the lane, did what the actual dish was with a twist, didn't totally derail like Mike's and Barry's they went to another dish altogether, Mike's didn't even have a tortilla, the only similarity was the eggs other than that nothing to do with the original dish.

Jaime, while it was a twist, it's not exactly clever if I can look at a recipe and go "oh he's just going to add bacon and call it a day" and be right before even seeing his twist

Kinda bothers me how Poppy said that Baz wasn't making a pesto "in any way shape or form".......but it actually had all the ingredients of a pesto just adding mint.
I mean it didn't have parmesan either and if you're getting super technical he made it in a food processor. Real pesto is made in a mortar and pestle.
It was definitely more green sauce than pesto
And no olive oil either.

Mike could so easily have made that dish into a tortilla wrap, just put the wrap on the plate, add lentil salad and slide on the eggs same as he did.
I really thought she was going to give the win to Barry when she said it was the dish that pushed the boundaries the most. He really stretched the recipe.

I'd try to make Barry's pasta. Having guest cooks for pass it on is going to be hilarious.
On Jamie's instead of the sauce he went with I would have gone with a spicy cheese sauce/fondue. Something with a really subtle flavor that just would have given it that melty, gooey quality that goes so well together with bacon and potatoes.
I mean the cheesecake raviolis are basically dessert pierogi, only mildly weird if you ask me ;)
My polish grandma would make blueberry peirogi.
I have the feeling, the boys need a new second cook that makes the group hole again. Having two cooks with quite different personality in there gives the channel a different kind of energy.
Barry didn’t make Cheesecake: It’s a Cheesecake in an Empanada (minus the lard)
Based on what I observed(with quick review on the difference on the dough/pastry), the recipe becomes ravioli if you boiled the pasta but if you fry/bake the pasta it becomes empanada.

I don’t like that the food team is obviously preparing the dishes of the normals which they cook. They don’t even know what the food that they cook tastes like and it’s less of a battle between them and their approach rather than the food team. They are just replicating someone else’s food and not really giving them their own twist. At least that’s what it feels like to me!

Poppy would be *amazing* for pass it on. Humor, charm, personality, confidence and most of all, enough knowledge to keep the guys guessing, and/or save the mess they make.
I feel Jamie should have won, because his was the only real twist of one of her recipes to me. The others just... were so far out there I didn't recognise the original in them anymore as a viewer. Mike and Barry used tons of different ingredients, whereas Jamie just made one change. I feel we need to remember that these are originally Tiktok trend recipes, and a key aspect of those is simplicity... but I don't see the latter two as something that could possibly be communicated in a single tiktok for someone to reproduce, even if they knew the original already.

When I've made ravioli (dessert of otherwise) I find it really good to use an ice cube tray for a mould. Lay the pasta into the tray, push into the holes, fill, wet the pasta and seal it. Then turn it out and cut it into very full little ravioli. Also makes it easier for consistency and getting the air out.
I'd love to see Ebbers get involved too. See what he would do in cooks like this.
