IMAGINE, settling down to watch a TH-cam video of fogotten mall restaurants....the nostalgia of by gone era playing on the screen...not just a video, but a complete experience....WHO WOULDN'T love the same phrases being repeated over and over again for every restaurant on the list?
Orange Julius had the BEST Chicago dogs I've ever seen. They were bought by DQ a long time ago and eventually, someone decided that they didn't need OJ any more. I just wish DQ had kept the Chicago dogs😞
Sbarros is not the same. Their stuffed was so good when I was a kid. It was thick. Now it’s skinny and it’s sucks. I got a few months ago at mall down here. The one when I was a kid in Alabama was so good. Before all this processed crap got added and companies bought out.
Best Mall Restaurant that wasn't in the Food Section but attached to the mall itself was Bishops Buffett. My Mom and I would head to Westroads Mall in Omaha, NE when I was a kid in the 70's, do some shopping then head to Bishop's for the best French Dip on the planet! They cut the slices of roast beef and put it on a fresh french baguette and a side of Au Jus. If I was really good, she'd get me a piece of their chocolate pie, which was to die for. I miss those days with my Mom and Bishop's.
I remember my days at the Steeplegate Mall in Concord NH. Now closed and set to be torn down. Burger king, had Sbarro's a friend of mine worked there, so good back then. OJ, Manchu Wok, Pretzel time, Mrs. Fields for a bit. Where we would all meet on a Friday/Saturday night. Never thought I would see it end like this.
I always had my Mom stop by Orange Julius and get me a large to sip on going back home. I miss the restaurants, but I know how to make them. Not as good as the restaurant, but pretty close.
same, and funny enough, the mall mine is in is the reason three of the malls listed in the commercial shown for York's Steak House at @5:23 don't exist anymore lol
I miss York Steak House at the Natick (MA) mall. My family made a joke of their tag line 'Would you like some hot, delicious mushroom sauce?' always those exact words.
Yep, ate there before. Natick Mall is evolving to a social center like these anchor spots are opening arcades and pickle ball, so I think if York Steak House would have reopened, people would flock to it! Especially that the first floor of the former Sears is still vacant.
Rax had so many franchises here in LA, they pushed Arby’s out. Then when rax failed here in the early to mid 90’s, Arby’s had made full comeback by 2003.
Imagine: the irony of asking "who wouldn't love"... while describing a series of mall restaurants that went out of business due to *lack of customers...* 🤔😏
ARTHUR TREACHER'S FISH & CHIPS! They may have been an East Coast thing. Arthur was the co host of I think Mike Douglas. Then he started these fast food Fish places. Actually; were pretty good , I ate there a few times.
The only Chick fil A in town was in the mall. Now there’s a big stand alone. There used to be a Miss Fields, Sbarros and Orange Julius in the food court but they’ve been replaced with a Panda Express, Aunt Annie’s Pretzels and a Subway. The stand alone Burger Chef is now a Social Security Office.
Most of those I’ve never heard of or wasn’t in my area. The last Corndog 7 is in my state in Laurel, MS. There’s a Morrison’s Cafeteria in Mobile, AL. Not as good as the old days. I had fond memories of eating at the one in Jackson, MS with my grandma. We had Orange Julius but I think I tried it once.
Saw the total eclipse with Mom amid Sis, and my daughter this year, and later all shared a meal at a Ponderosa, as some had done 50 years ago. Thank you for capturing Milestones !
I have no idea when the Julish was created but I recall my mother getting one someplace in Hollywood whenever we went there back in the late 50s. I finally got to liking the flavor sometime in the 60s and would get one whenever we went to the mall in the 70s. I would have another please!! Some Vodka in them would go well!!
I still have a Sbarro at the local mall, where Orange Julius and Dairy Queen merged together. By the way, Malls are changing thanks to Amazon and becoming social centers so I believe they have a chance to come back, like York Steak House. Thankfully Roy Rogers and The Ground Round is bouncing back, so Nostalgia could raise the ashes to these gems. Maybe we can see these listed make a comeback.
I grew up as a mallrat in 1980's Dallas, but our malls didn't have most of these. Some of them, like Sbarro, had standalone restaurants instead of mall locations. But, I've never heard of over half of these places. I do miss Orange Julius though! Texas Dairy Queens have completely different menus from other states (we have Dude's and Beltbuster burgers), so I've never seen one with Orange Julius 😢. Our B. Dalton's didn't have cafes. and our Chick-fil-A's were no different from the standalone versions - just smaller. Our mall food courts weren't much different back then from they're like today. Interesting! It looks like Dallas missed out on some pretty unique experiences.
Some of those franchises may be defunct in the states but I’ve seen these franchises currently in the malls in the Philippines. I saw Kenny Roger’s and Shakey’s Pizza there in the Philippines.
Man, my local mall had a Sbarro, Orange Julius and a Hot Sam in there. No Burger Chef, we had BK and also Little Caesar’s had a by the slice restaurant in the mall. We also had a Rax but it was its own fast food restaurant
Orange Julius started along Hwy 99 in central California in the 1960's with small, orange round, stores along the Freeway that looked like a big orange! I know because my older sister and brother-in-law owned and operated one in Fresno, California. Haha! I don't know if too many people remember those though. It was a long time ago! I used to love going to visit them when they were open and working because they had the best hamburgers around! Hehe! Unfortunately they didn't own it for very long. But, the company had those orange stores along the freeway for sometime. When they went to the malls, they took out the freeway stores! There's a town in central California named Orange Cove, California where most of all oranges are grown. Most of the oranges you buy in the grocery stores come from there. So it's only natural that Orange Julius was started from central California!
Never heard of most of these, must be stuff that was popular in the Midwest/East Coast. Our mall cafeteria chain was Furr's, and it was so damn good. Salisbury steak, fried chicken, jalapeno cornbread, custard pie for dessert. Really miss that place.
As a kid Orange Julius was the only one we had as an option on your list. Didn’t care for the drink but they had good burgers. Sbarro were in malls as an adult but I never ate at one.
1:59 in the mid 80’s some marketing clowns in either New York or LA decided that raw eggs were second only to raw plutonium in danger to the human. That’s what killed both legit table side Caesar salad and Orange Julius
Never saw a Corn Dog 7 but the local malls had "The Corn Dog", they sold corn dogs, fresh made lemonaide, Icees and soft drinks. They also had a fried chese bar, essentially a 4 inch by 1.5 inch block of cheese dipped in the corn dog batter and fried. They had the best corn dogs ever, even better than the state fair corn dogs. They prepaired the food as you ordered it so it was always fresh and hot. Toward the end they also offered foot long corn dogs and a cheese dog, the cheese dog had chedder cheese in the hot dog. When they first opened locally around 1981 they hired only slim, attractive, college age girls and their uniform included skimpy, Hooter's style shorts over skin tight leggings with a striped polo style shirt.
You can make your own orange Julius at home put t part ice 2 parts juice and a couple table spoons of regular flavor powder coffee creamer.blend well and enjoy. Thank me later😂
We had a place called the "Orange Bowl" in our mall which seemed to be a dupe for Julius. Also had a Corn Dog 7. Is there any better "walking around the mall" food than a corn dog.
When I was a teenaged enlisted person, York was an amazing experience. That's Scott Bakula in the Magic Pan commercial. That's post-Brady Eve Plumb in the Burger Chef commercial. Interesting dude.
There are still a lot of malls that have standalone Orange Julius. It’s not dead. They still exist. I just ate at one two months ago had me a strawberry Julius and a hotdog.
Dang, I almost forgot how ORANGE that Hot Sam logo was… This is the 1980s that I remember. Not those wacky color blocks out of place, it’s the designs like these restaurants… Those DRY salad vegetables is as 80s as it gets… Hot Chocolate for a dime is a tough one. Morrison’s resembles a beauty college I went to once. Did Roy Roger’s serve Cola with grenadine? I remember the bookstore but no café attached, ah well. I don’t recall many of these but feel as if I ought to remember them.
Great little video! I grew up in the sixties here in TX, being in junior high when big malls first hit Houston. So, most of this crap food and food courts weren't really developed yet. I wonder if someday we’ll see a nostalgic video about online platforms that died. I have my hopes.
I miss Orange Julius!! My absolutely favorite!!
Orange Julius was the best as a kid in the 70s. I miss the drinks and miss those times.
Orange Julius STILL exists where I'm at & Sbarro
@@IDontKnowYouBut Yep. They're still around in select locations. Long Live Orange Julius! So damn tasty too!
We have one in Port St Lucie, FL still
@@IDontKnowYouBut same menu? Orange Julius drinks and burger?
@@sirhoopalot1 The burger is cos it's merged with Dairy Queen
I got an orange Julius at a Dairy Queen but it didn't taste anything like the OJ I remember.
It might be regional or the wrong time period, but I remember Ruby Tuesday's being in all the malls.
The mall in my town had a Ruby Tuesday's.
There was also TGI Fridays.
Arthur treacher's fish and chips was the bomb diggity
The Mall was amazing. ❤
Corn dog with a huge lemonade, Alladin's Castle, Radio Shack, maybe a movie... That was a good Saturday.
These old food court chains just remind me of how I could never get any of it. My mom was CHEAP!!! She’d be quick to say “we have food at home”
I loved getting my orange Julius as a teenager
I loved orange julius. The pretzels were great too.
Kenny Rogers Roasters was 💯 🔥
❤Orange Julius❤
Orange Julius had the BEST Chicago dogs I've ever seen.

@BorderCzar_byeillegals Just had it in the airport in Aruba, not good today.
We still have Orange Julius here in Canada!
@@janespring9224 Yes. It's at
West Edmonton Mall.
Yes, but the old Julius was made with real oranges not some syrup.
Lucky people ! Can you ship me some,on dry for sure 😂❤❤😂
We had an Orange Julius at Riverside Mall ,here in Utica,NY,back in the 80's but closed many years ago. Miss it.
Did you see Eve Plumb on the Burger Chef commercial. No Marcia Marcia Marcia. 😂..
Best Mall Restaurant that wasn't in the Food Section but attached to the mall itself was Bishops Buffett. My Mom and I would head to Westroads Mall in Omaha, NE when I was a kid

BURGER CHEF was my first hourly paying job in the early 1970's .

Still have a Sbarro at my local mall. They actually just opened in the last year.
Chik-fil-A is all over the northeast.

Terrible, over-priced pizza.
It was good in the 80s at my local mall. When I got stationed at Pearl Harbor both malls Ala Moana and Pearlridge had one and the food was good.
Great American Cookie Company, California Pizza, First Federal Pizza, Houlihans, A&W, Houlihans

I have great memories of Saturdays spent at the mall and stopping at Orange Julius. I miss Morrison’s Cafeteria, too. I loved that place.
I miss Arthur Trachers Fish & Chios. Loved their crispy fried fish.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention them on your list of forgotten mall restaurants
The BEST !

Orange Julius was my favorite
Orange Julius predated mall life by decades.
That opening shot of the Magic Pan commercial. The actor on the right looks and sounds like Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap). Did anyone notice that?
