    Those antennas you mentioned just south of chapel hill are the unc tv towers. Believe it or not they have a two man “elevator” in the center with battery back up. If it fails though, you are correct it’s stair and ladder time. I’ve been up in the tallest one to work on some radio transmitters. It’s a heck of a view and for all you pilot types don’t ever forget to treat those things as a giant Christmas tree shape. The guy wires are going no where, your wing or blade is however. FYI Towers east of Raleigh city proper are called the Clayton towers. They are giants too. Really enjoy your videos, ty for my aviation fix for today!

    • @GrantBaker
      @GrantBaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @TB-um1xz yeah that is crazy! I suppose it’s easier and cheaper to certify and integrate new tech in smaller planes with simpler systems so it makes some sense why that is the case.

    • @GrantBaker
      @GrantBaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! It’s certified to FL300 but I’ve only taken it above 280 a couple times. I generally fly in the low-mid twenties but it depends on the weather and winds that day.

  • @jimlittle8801
    @jimlittle8801 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video Grant. The PC12 is my dream airplane. I’d love to know what mount you used for your Insta360. I’ve got one too and always looking for the best way to mount it on my aircraft.

    • @GrantBaker
      @GrantBaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jim! I use the NFlightCam Exterior Ball-Head mount. It requires a logbook entry since it’s semi-permanently attached but it’s very simple and secure. You replace an existing screw with a longer screw to attach the base. Thanks for another great video! Do you prefer Pilatus Pc-12 over TBM 960? TBM has autoland system, is cheaper and faster!

    • @GrantBaker
      @GrantBaker  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Depends on the mission. The emergency autoland is an awesome feature! The TBM can’t carry as much, so for missions where the TBM has to make a fuel stop and the PC12 doesn’t, the PC12 will get there quicker. And the PC12 cabin is much more spacious and comfortable. I’d choose PC12 most of the time, but I might be a bit biased!😜

  • @anthem819

    what external mount did you use for the 360 on the wing ? I cant imagine you used the Gecko suction cup mount for that. . Was there a concern with the speed of the pC12 perhaps deflecting the surface because of the high speed ? Thanks

    • @GrantBaker
      @GrantBaker  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, definitely don’t use a suction mount outside an airplane! I use the NFlightCam Exterior Ball-Head mount. No concern about damaging the airplane due to how it attaches.

  • @ThePilotJosh
    @ThePilotJosh ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Grant why do the ailerons move with rudder input on the ground in the Pilatus? Are they linked for a specific reason?

    • @GrantBaker
      @GrantBaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They’re always linked. It helps with staying coordinated.

  • @rosscomer
    @rosscomer ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I toasted my Insta360 flying through clouds. Apparently "waterproof" does not include doing 200 KTAS in IMC. I've since bought a "sport case" for it but am hesitant to use the GoPro mount on a plastic case.
    Did you have a case on yours? What mount did you use?

    • @GrantBaker
      @GrantBaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah that’s too bad! I’ve had mine in IMC and rain on the PC12. I don’t have a case, and I agree, I wouldn’t trust a plastic one. My concern before taking it into precip was the mic holes. I highly doubt those can handle the hard blowing rain. I put some tape around it but it all blew off during the flight so I’ll have to figure something else out before taking it into precip again. I use the NFlightCam Ball-Head Mount. If you buy one, you can support me by getting it from Amazon through my affiliate link here: amzn.to/44da8JS or from www.NFlightCam.com if you’d rather buy direct from them.
      What plane did you have it on and what mount were you using?

    Inhibit the ACS on start, you will get a lower primary and secondary ITT spike.

    • @GrantBaker
      @GrantBaker  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s not true for the NG unless something isn’t working right. The ACS shutoff valve is not energized (opened) until 62% NG. Particularly when it’s hot out, I’ll see the prop RPM roll back some as the ACS robs air from it. On the legacies, the ECS should be off for engine start per the checklist.

    • @Rubibi-saltwaterjim
      @Rubibi-saltwaterjim 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @GrantBaker I know, it shouldn't make any difference but it does, we operate regularly in 45 plus degrees with less than 10 minute turn arounds.
