This is relevant again, thank you. This game was great, i always called it EQOA 2, it was so similar, but like the natural evolution i would expect from EQOA or EQ1. A shame it wasn't given enough time or proper care to grow into what Brad really wanted out of it. Here's hoping Pantheon is what he envisioned. These classic MMO's are the best. I'm on the private server now but it's pretty much a ghost town, it's still early alpha though.
dont know really still havent given it much a go im still on return of reckoning which is the emulator server for age of reckoning warhammer which also closed down they have a bigger team then vanguard tho and more complete, vanguard appears to have a lot in game atm from what i saw but still not sure how complete it is and when i was on it didnt have much population on it some reason
I just want to say again how much I appreciate your videos. I very much respect the kind and helpful presence you have on the VG forums. That attitude is reflected in this video which I found to be calm, thoughtful, informative, and comprehensive (for an overview). There are too few really good resources like this for Vanguard. Well done!
I will play the Vanguard Emulator until Pantheon comes out. I need to keep my MMO skills sharp! I suspect a lot of the features of Vanguard will be incorporated in Pantheon. :-)
That's one of the best things about VG I think, is how well the classes are done. There is no go-to class for anything within their own roles. People don't really care about what classes they have as long as the group works. When you get to raids, there are some specific circumstances, like a mob being more caster friendly than melee, or fearing the tank as a mechanic (which Paladins and DKs are immune to but Warriors are not), etc. But overall, all the classes are viable and useful.
Whichever crafting profession you pick does not have a direct influence on your adventuring, no. However, if you were to go blacksmith as a tank you would be able to make armor or weapons for yourself, etc, so there can be some benefit there.
I just recall our BM frequently ran out of mana and couldn't heal in PotA having most of his taps resisted, but that was when PotA had just got revamped.
Wu, back from vacation. The bard is really fun, I think. It's not so much abilities and songs becoming ineffective as it is becoming situational. The most played songs as high level will be dps songs, it's true, but that doesn't mean the other song components are useless. You just wouldn't normally play a big regen song during a fight when you don't really need to. The only components that are never used are things like resists, because they are just so easy to buff up with regular static buffs.
Yea noticed this when I went to create a character. Guess doing research beforehand on classes doesn't always work out. I'm trying out the shaman currently, tend to like healers/support classes best.
Blood Mage actually reminds me quite a bit of the Chloromancer in Rift. I'm looking for something new to get into, and Vanguard looks pretty interesting, just want to find a good group to play with and pick a class to stick with. Kind of annoyed how limited the class selection is for Dwarves though.
Looking to get into a different MMORPG, so considering giving this a shot. One question though, are all classes and their associated roles viable in this game? Or is there a "go-to" class for heals, tanks, DPS, etc. And on that, is the community very strict about who they take into raids and such, based on that? PS. Came from 3 years of Lord of the Rings Online, where no one would let a Warden tank raids =(
I have a Bard I'm working on. The design of the class appeals to me greatly due to the incredible flexibility and variety it offers. However, I have read several posts on the forums that at max level the Bard becomes a one dimensional DPS class with most song components becoming ineffective. This is disheartening to me. May I ask your perspective on this? Thanks!
Enjoyed your overview. Just started playing again and loving it. Wish there were more content out there like yours. So much forgotten and lost!

This is still helpful, thanks
One question though, why did you stop making a video for each class?
I was looking forward to checking them out.
HEY ALL!!! come play on the Vanguard Emulator! its really fucking good. loving it.
Thank you for the great class guide. I'm jumping back into this game with the Vanguard Emulator.
Same here doing the same thing, lets group up I'm gonna heal!
the plethora of bugs notwithstanding, Vanguard SOH was by far the best MMO I ever played. Damn, I wish someone would bring it back.
there is a vanguard emulator server which i just started up on, not sure how much is in game yet but i got to level 5 last night on rogue

Pantheon hype guys!

Thank you for this, Now to decide what Race Disciple I want.

All race/class combinations are open now. There are no restrictions.
I have started playing on the emulation server and having a blast in the game again!
Watching this while downloading.

Have you tried the VGOEmulator yet?

Well, I wouldn't say it's that bad, I never really have too much trouble on mine, but yes spell mitigation can affect bloodmage tap heals still.
Much appreciate the effort you put into this vid. Also subbed.

On the Vanguard Emulator, all classes are open to all races.
Sure bring back fond memories. Remembered that bloodmage really struggles on heals when high resist mobs were introduced. Has that been remedied?
Thanks!
Just started playing the game again :) Fans brought it back to life
When do you think your next video will be out? Keep up the good work btw.
For a monk should I use a staff or fists? Open to all suggestions :3
+LakeBodomsReaper fist, always the fist. not that its better. but a monk looks cooler using his fist.
