I have started playing on the emulation server and having a blast in the game again!

Necromancer was amazing, blood mage and druid was the funnest thematic wise and arcanist was the best raid DPS

This is relevant again, thank you. This game was great, i always called it EQOA 2, it was so similar, but like the natural evolution i would expect from EQOA or EQ1. A shame it wasn't given enough time or proper care to grow into what Brad really wanted out of it. Here's hoping Pantheon is what he envisioned. These classic MMO's are the best. I'm on the private server now but it's pretty much a ghost town, it's still early alpha though.

I use to play EQ and Vanguard alot, and I love the games, but honestly I can understand having quest markers and the like, and I think it is fine to have those on the maps and for the text for the quests to still be in depth I still read, I think currently a game that shows that people like both systems in terms of the quest text being interesting and the map having markers is FF14, but the old school let us call it "DnD" like feel of finding the adventure based on information you have learned of is part of that old school appeal, but if you havent done the quests enough to memorize it sometimes you also want something that you can just "shut off" and play ya know?

I don't know if you're even still around on this TH-cam account but I was just feeling nostalgic and decided to rewatch the entire series. :) If you're still around, do you have any idea what people from Vanguard are playing these days? I mean, I'm sure there are former Vanguard players playing all sorts of things obviously but I'm curious if there's some game out there that's considered a sort of Vanguard-ish experience? :)

the plethora of bugs notwithstanding, Vanguard SOH was by far the best MMO I ever played. Damn, I wish someone would bring it back.

using the unreal engine was a big mistake. unreal doesn't run well overall but it's free and uses royalty model.

Vanguard was not really challenging. The game is very comprehensive and learning how to play the game is the game. Crafting was actually the best of the 3 spheres. The adventuring was just eq/doac stuff and diplomacy got boring once you got the best cards/clothes.

I cant read and I played VG for 7 years. There is a quest helper in the default UI you know..

l loved this game since lauch, bugs and all. l still have my 2 story house, flying mount, etc.... But thanks to SOE they're canceling it , just like they did with SWG. No use to playing it anymore since it will be over soon. That's why l refuse to buy anymore morpg from SOE, tired of wasting my time and money on games so they can cancel them later. Screw SOE.

Man, thank you so much for these videos. WoW, EQ II and Vanguard all came out at about the same time. I tried VG, and dropped it in 6 days due to all the bugs. WoW became the winner!!! VG was the best of the three, but was just totally unplayable. I'm now returning to hopefully a better product.

Thanks! A f2p account can get and use everything in game, but you'll have to use unlockers to get most of the high end stuff. The epic is the result of a pretty long questing/factioning journey. The Berserker was one of the proposed classes at launch that never made it into the game, unfortunately, along with the Inquisitor. The closest you'll really get would be like a DK using a big 2hander, but they are more tank than dps.

Hey man, nice video. After watching this I'm downloading Vanguard, and plan to make a Paladin myself. Will I be able to get that Paladin epic as F2P? Also do they have a Barbarian/Zerker type class?

Yea noticed this when I went to create a character. Guess doing research beforehand on classes doesn't always work out. I'm trying out the shaman currently, tend to like healers/support classes best.

I know it's "maylay" and "sythe", I just don't think about it and it's an old habit in these cases. Thanks for the positive and useful feedback though.

All race/class combinations are open now. There are no restrictions.

Blood Mage actually reminds me quite a bit of the Chloromancer in Rift. I'm looking for something new to get into, and Vanguard looks pretty interesting, just want to find a good group to play with and pick a class to stick with. Kind of annoyed how limited the class selection is for Dwarves though.

Whichever crafting profession you pick does not have a direct influence on your adventuring, no. However, if you were to go blacksmith as a tank you would be able to make armor or weapons for yourself, etc, so there can be some benefit there.

does picking a profession/job effect your role like if i pick blacksmith do i get a boost for tanking role or does it not affect your class at all?

I'm in a great guild right now, although we are a more high-end progression type. There are a lot of great guilds around though for all levels and playstyles, they really help with finding good folks to play with.

That's one of the best things about VG I think, is how well the classes are done. There is no go-to class for anything within their own roles. People don't really care about what classes they have as long as the group works. When you get to raids, there are some specific circumstances, like a mob being more caster friendly than melee, or fearing the tank as a mechanic (which Paladins and DKs are immune to but Warriors are not), etc. But overall, all the classes are viable and useful.

Looking to get into a different MMORPG, so considering giving this a shot. One question though, are all classes and their associated roles viable in this game? Or is there a "go-to" class for heals, tanks, DPS, etc. And on that, is the community very strict about who they take into raids and such, based on that? PS. Came from 3 years of Lord of the Rings Online, where no one would let a Warden tank raids =(
