  • Didn't like some of the other Falcon buyers guides out there on TH-cam so I decided to make my own in depth guide. This is a video detailing everything I look for when inspecting a BA, BF or FG falcon.

    two Important things I forgot to mention in the video:
    1. Before buying any car please run a PPSR search. (Personal Property and Security Register). All you need to do is go to PPSR.gov.au and enter the VIN of the vehicle and pay $2 . And you will receive a government report detailing information such as:
    -Does the vehicle have any Finance owing on it? or has the vehicle been secured as collateral for another loan?
    - Is the vehicle currently reported as stolen?
    -Has the vehicle ever been written off?
    2. Ask to see a copy of the invoice from the DOT where they are being requested to renew the Rego on the car. This will be addressed to the owner of the vehicle on the letterhead. (If they have a DOT direct account can ask to see this instead). Then ask to see a copy of the drivers licence of the person who is showing you the vehicle to see if they are indeed the person listed as the owner. This will verify that the person who is selling you the vehicle is the actual owner and also that they have the authority to sell the car. (worst case scenario is that the car is not theirs to sell and if they sign the sellers documents I don't believe it will be a legally binding sale. Then good luck getting your money back).

      Excellent advice. May I add? 3. If purchased from Victoria (I'm from Vic and it can vary from state), do a Vicroads rego check to see if the registration has been suspended or cancelled (if you are buying a unregistered vehicle) The car rego can be suspended due to unpaid fines (and will not show in the PPSR as encumbrance owing) therefore you have to further enquire to the seller. A more comprehensive PPSR check (odo check) can be purchased from equifax for ~ $50 "for a guide" however there are flaws with it. Kms entered by potential purchaser affects the odometer mismatch and can be flawed. Unregistered vehicle permit covers only for TAC and not insurance on the vehicle. You still need to insure the vehicle and YES, insurance companies can insure an unregistered vehicle (via VIN etc) with the intentions to register.

    With the ZF6 boxes they are German made so would suggest to get them serviced every 50,000kms or so to increase the life span so they don’t slip many fg owners don’t service it

    • @vincekara9446
      @vincekara9446 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agree 100%. Many owners are on the guise of an indestructible Zf auto lacking servicing resulting into failures

      @@vincekara9446the cost of servicing it makes it not worth it. After a few serviced it will pay for a new one, so just drive it till you need a new one.

    Great vid, really good advice. One thing I would add is to check the rear wheel arches for specks of melted rubber stuck to the liners, which is a giveaway that the car's been doing burnouts.

    Why is your driver’s side bumper-to-guard joint out of line? By your logic, I’d conclude that a front end impact was the reason. I’m pretty confident it’s just factory alignment, as they are rarely perfect. Great vid to help out those who are less experienced.

    Colour of oil doesn't always tell condition of engine. Cars that run on LPG the oil will be cleaner compared to cars that run on petrol. But after all the other checks that should give you a pretty good idea of the condition of the car.

    Regarding the transmission, this is not good advice. If they have a full service history, then there is no issue with buying it. I have a ZF 6 Speed that has over 470k kilometers on it. It has been serviced every 40 thousand kilometers and it drives like a dream. I know this is true because the gentleman I purchased the car from gave me the folder containing every single receipt he ever spent on the car.

      Best thing you can do to prolong the life of the ZF tranny is to install an external oil cooler so the cooling of the tranny oil doesn't go through the base of the radiator. I had one fitted to my FG G6E as soon as the warranty expired which was in 2012. I've had no problems at all and get it's oil changed every 50K km. This idea of a sealed system is BS for the ZF tranny oil will NOT last the life of the car. Some recommend getting a special heat exchanger fitted but I say go with what Ford owners have done for years with the external oil cooler.

    I had an BF MK2 and a FG MK2. the BF are absolute crap, rust and waterleaks galore. The FG Mk2, no rust, no water leaks, Much better built. I think the FG Mk2 were better rust proofed then the Series 1 FG's and the tin can b series.

    Pretty sure that the loop and the mechanism in the bonnet are both covered with over spray.
    Unless ford paint those two pieces with the FG but my BF doesn’t have colour matching bonnet loop and the plate that is inside the bonnet for the locking mechanism of the bonnet

    • @AussiePom
      @AussiePom 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It all depends on how they've been treated and where they've been parked. Areas that are damp will encourage corrosion whereas dry areas and there's no problems. But it also depends on the owner for some people whether they have an XT or a G6ET treat their cars like crap and an expensive disposable hunk of metal.
