Thanks for the info. I installed both last Friday and what a difference!!! I have been using an FM receiver for hands-free and Bluetooth audio. Usually had to have volume at 20, now have it at 6 or 7 for same volume but with much better clarity. I also opted for the module with microphone so that I still have hands-free. Love the videos! I’m disappointed you didn’t tell us how much horsepower your xr6 turbo falcon has 7 times throughout the install! 😂 awesome work mate such an underrated channel
I took a different approach and simply used an old JVC head unit with USB and BT etc and fed the pre-amp outputs directly into the Aux input. I already had a Garmin GPS with BT that works with my phone for handsfree etc so my main need was USB music. The JVC has an Aux input as well so those with 3.5mm jacks are catered for as well. I used the generally available Aerpro Falcon BA/BF lower dash mounting kit - Repco $43 on sale The combo works brilliantly and you can use the JVC volume control to match the FM channel volume etc. Steering controls works as usual . The JVC just appears as Aux and runs whenever the car is running.
Oh my god, this is a true must. This is giving me nostalgia haha. My favourite way to setup the sound system was to tap into the existing subwoofer lines and convert them to rca then run a monoblock amp then into a sub. Chuck new speakers in front and back and you're done!
Your bluetooth setup is better than factory setups of cars I've driven. Bluetooth on both 2016 Ford Falcon and 2013 Chrysler 300 I have had to turn the audio up quite high compared to CD and radio. Particularly annoying is when I switch back to radio or CD I sometimes forget to turn the volume down beforehand and so as a consequence my ears get blasted!

Sadly the previous owner of my BF Fairmont put in a unit similar to yours, done properly. Seems all good, sure, the sad part is it doesn't have BT streaming. This means when going out of radio range (BRockFM 99.3 FTW haha), I'm stuck with CD player (6 stacker at least) or a separate BT speaker.
You're a legend mate. I've been thinking lately that it seems kind of ridiculous to still be listening to CDs in 2020 and this is the perfect solution. Edit: you can also switch to aux by tapping the source button on the steering wheel (the one tucked in around the back on the left).

If you're like me and like bluetooth but are lazier, McDodo have a USB-A to DC 3.5mm Bluetooth to Aux adapter. It's basically a USB stick on one end, with an Aux cable coming out of it. The USB part is a bluetooth receiver, and is powered via the USB port, and the bluetooth signal is then sent through the Aux. Because of the location of the final Aux port in the Falcon/Territory, it's right by the cigarette lighter, so having a lighter USB charger is perfect; just plug the McDodo in and you've powered bluetooth!

Great work! I had the same problem with the aux connection being so weak all I could hear was the engine whine. I just bought a cheap usb powered amp off ebay which does a decent job.

Great solution, I've gotta do this to my own. *Edit* My understanding was that Ford had a factory head unit with bluetooth that would have replaced the tissue box holder.
hey man, i’ve done it almost exactly how you’ve done it in your video, but i’m still getting a ton of alternator while through the speakers, have you encountered this at all? i have the same bluetooth module as you, and i’ve done it the same as you have but it still has feedback.
Awesome video. Do you know how to stop interference over radio when the radio announces are talking/ news playing, an you have a dash camera powered from your power socket just under traction control button on a BF 2 Fairmont Ghia?
Tried your setup and it's a terrible sound. It's almost all coming out of the LHS speaker, and hardly anything on the right?? my blue tooth dongle came with solid red, white with blue stripe, and solid yellow. Soldiered solid red with solid blue, white/blue with white, and yellow with bare. Used heat shrink and everything. Connected the red bluetooth power wire to the red/green wire on the spare ASL plug, and black/red bluetooth wire to black with yellow stripe on the ASL plug. What's gone wrong?
I watched browneys garage do one of these the kit was aux and Bluetooth he said it was about the same volume as the radio and the quality was good the kit was from matts audio group on Facebook planing on getting a ba don’t know which one I’ll be doing might test both
@@MotoringBoxTV yeah he did but after that he turned the phone up turned the radio down and made the comment that’s about where it would be fit the radio
@MotoringBox @Honest car Reviews Correct and probably an error on my behalf, phone volume was turned down. Would something like this work with a VY Holden Crewman? or is the $25 video a better option? Loved the video mate! Appreciate all the tips from a fellow Ipswitchian
the best way but as far as im aware its no longer made it the parrot MKi9200 combined bluetooth handsfree and advanced music interface , all in one unit, sounds magic without linking an amp and preamp together and gives you hands free as well , used to install them all the time
I bought a kit from Ford many years ago for my MK1 BA Turbo that allowed me to plug my I-pod into a 3.5mm jack that was located where the tissue box was. Sounded as good as gold. Well, as good as the Ford stereo could sound, which was shit!
That's pretty cool that someone developed that. A similar thing has happened in the late 90s/early 00s (E39 E46 E53) BMW community. Bluebus has been developed to do what this thing here does and more. Can even set the car to do that cool indicator trick new cars have. You know the one, half pull the stalk and get 3 flashes, 5, etc. Plus other features. Big buck-a-roos unfortunately, but my tape in the tape deck to aux connection sucks.
Great video! The ASL box is just a amplifier, it does not remove noise (feedback WTF? 3:17) the engine noise might still be there if you turn off your phone and turn up the ICC volume. The ASL + Btooth boxes $150 plus freight. The Ford unit amplifier has only with 3.5mm input was $150 in 2007 google "BAF289455BA" now $75 I put a ford unit in my BA Futura sedan worked great no engine noise at all, then moved it to a BAMKII Fairmont Ghia really bad engine noise. I believe from searching forums that the problem is bad earthing/ grounding thru the car. Some people reported that re-seating plugs under the dash and ICC helped solve the problem. I sold the Fairmont and put the unit back input the Futura all ok. Even cheaper solution is $24 from jaycar (AR3140 google "jaycar blue tooth car" this one gives you phone connectivity and USB ports +more, it uses the FM radio to receive the audio!
Hey mate I’ve installed the unit and it all works great , just having trouble keeping the cords tidy and out of the way including the little multimedia box, is there anyway I can hide it?
I double sided taped mine to the reverse side of the plastic panel that goes across under the steering column, and then just cable tied the cords to any existing looms or mounting holes I could find.
totally understand you using what you have alread and i do like this mod but for a couple of bucks you can get a bluetooth module with an aux input which would probably be better for someone buying this new.
So mate got a pickle. I have red, white n yellow wire with Bluetooth unit. My thinking is red is rh, white lh n yellow is ground. Did also have black on plug but only fed from one side of the back of plug to the other side of back of plug. Basically a loop. U reckon I've got wires correct?
@@MotoringBoxTV mate gave it a go n works fine. However I don't think u mentioned that the Bluetooth unit requires power. For those that would follow this vid they'd find that bt unit won't work and not realize that power is required to Bluetooth unit. Anyway pretty simple to resolve that issue. Also wires with bt unit were different in colours n numbers. For me it was yellow, white n bare. Bare is obviously ground. Yellow is right n white is left. The 2 separated wires are red n black n they are your power. +/- can't remember which is which will up date later. Bt unit also has option for microphone so u could install full function bt music n phone. The one thing u will lack is a skip button as all is controlled by phone same with answering a call, if I figure something out I'll let u know, can't touch phone for any reason these days while driving. I will be doing this after Christmas
so i've recently finished this project but after about a week of use the system died, i replaced it with a cheaper model and it happened again, i assume i have a power surge problem but the in line fuse i was using never blown, anyone have a fix? or an idea on what the problem is?
Thanks for this vid mate, I was looking for options n will do exactly what you've done. Wondering if u have any info on aftermarket blind spot detection systems. I have bf xr6 ute n the blind is notoriously bad, even with blind little round mirror I find it uncomfortable not being able to see clearly. I've looked at a few systems online so was wondering if you've ever looked into it n if so any recommendations. Ideally I'd like to adopt a Ford system however I don't think it's possible.
If you’re gunning for true hands free calls, the Bluetooth kit from an SY2 Territory hooks right up and can also handle streaming as well. B Series Falcons sadly never had audiophiles in mind with even their “Premium Sound” radios- the amplifier was woeful and the cost-over-quality paper speakers were miserable. You really had to do a DSP or tack on an aftermarket source into the tissue box for acceptable sound.
the stock speakers are actually pretty good (when they were new at least) being pioneer 5 x 7s. i remember taking them out of a ba i parted out and throwing them in a toyota starlet, very impressive sound in a small car
Hey mate , if you've already got the genuine ford ba/bf/territory aux kit that has its own small amplifier similar to that ASL one you show here, could that be wired up the same?
Does this bluetooth unit work for taking/receiving calls? I currently have a super-old Parrot unit that _only_ does calls over a really old protocol, and doesn't do music at all. Sounds like crap but it has a mic and call control buttons. I also have the whiny aux-in issue with the audio cable. Would love to have both bits of functionality working without the whine, and over bluetooth (because phones don't have headphone jacks these days..)
One thing I do when splicing wires is to stager the length of each join so none are at same position. Great video as always, very good upgrade. Even easier than your last Bluetooth upgrade, makes me seriously think about putting Bluetooth in my 2003 car. You should get that stone chip in your windscreen sort tho ...
Do you still have that 30pin to 3.5mm cable? Because I can use that on something too.
Great solution, I've gotta do this to my own.
*Edit*
My understanding was that Ford had a factory head unit with bluetooth that would have replaced the tissue box holder.
Factory Bluetooth was for calls only sadly. No way to play music through it
@@AndrewSmith-op8ue Well that seems stupid.
My BF factory unit plays music but the quality is crap.
Phone volume level control works over BT also.
Was that Mrs. Motoringbox supplying the profane overdubs?
Can you skip songs with the module itself, or do you have to pick up your phone each time and do it manually? Cheers
Have to use the phone
i love the sound that this bluetooth module makes with the car, but would the same process work if i am using an after market radio?
hey man, i’ve done it almost exactly how you’ve done it in your video, but i’m still getting a ton of alternator while through the speakers, have you encountered this at all? i have the same bluetooth module as you, and i’ve done it the same as you have but it still has feedback.
I'm not sure sorry mate, something definitely doesn't sound right there.
I watched browneys garage do one of these the kit was aux and Bluetooth he said it was about the same volume as the radio and the quality was good the kit was from matts audio group on Facebook planing on getting a ba don’t know which one I’ll be doing might test both
Pretty sure I saw him turn it up to 20..! Suspicious.
@@MotoringBoxTV yeah he did but after that he turned the phone up turned the radio down and made the comment that’s about where it would be fit the radio
@@brzd86 ok I don’t really take much notice of audio quality so it sounds good for me lol
@MotoringBox @Honest car Reviews Correct and probably an error on my behalf, phone volume was turned down. Unlike the eBay options the $75 Bluetooth kit from Matt’s Audio does amplify the signal, just as the ASL kit does, so there’s no volume loss.
Anyone who has watched my stuff knows I share when things work and don’t work or even when I fail, I have nothing to gain from being misleading. Just working it out as I go like most of us 👍
Now isn’t there a clutch you should be changing?
@@BrowneysGarage oh hi wasn’t expecting to see you lol
Bluetooth beats Aux cable for convenience, but both still have one major issue, touching your phone while driving.
I would love to see you do a review on the Kayhan Audio android head unit which you can use legally while driving.
Does this work for the ba fairmont? I have a different radio then you, will it still work and also when I hold am nothing comes up, does it have to plug in to work?
Using snap on wire strippers, but scissors to cut wiring. Amazing.
Do it differently if you have an issue with it mate.
@@MotoringBoxTV more the fact the cost of those strippers are not cheap, but side cutters are.
@@MotoringBoxTV but I did love this video, I looked briefly into this stuff for a mates ba, but it wasn't clear what worked best. So now I will be able to do it.
Hey man I purchased this product after seeing your review still got the Buzzing astatic noise even with adjusting it after driving the car , with the AUX cord
You might have to get in touch with them.
hey sean! just thought id let you know the link to the bluetooth module is a bit broken..
Do ba fairmonts have that plug? So many videos/forums about "falcon aux" but not fairmont? Is the plug in the same spot or is it somewhere else?
Yes they should have one. It's difficult to look up under the dash, so good luck!
Thank you sooooo much, this is exactly the solution I've been looking for with my territory, the volume and audio quality sucked so bad that I went back to cds
When are we going to see a full blown review of the car?!!!
Clutch still pending?
Soon and yes. Want to get it running right first.
That feedback noise drives me nuts in the AU falcon as well :/ thanks for this video mate
is there another way to fix my sound quality other then buying an ASL module?
Means now he can relive his youth and listen to offspring smash
Fuck yes.
hi, your link to bluetooth ebay doesnt work can you let me know what to buy thanks
Dumb question but does an incoming call come through the speakers?
Nice video mate. Just wondering where you wired up your power source for the bluetooth module?
I don't recall sorry! It may have been from the cigarette lighter socket.
What is the option when you buy it for the dvd
Would something like this work with a VY Holden Crewman? or is the $25 video a better option?
Loved the video mate! Appreciate all the tips
from
a fellow Ipswitchian
the best way but as far as im aware its no longer made it the parrot MKi9200 combined bluetooth handsfree and advanced music interface , all in one unit, sounds magic without linking an amp and preamp together and gives you hands free as well , used to install them all the time
I bought a kit from Ford many years ago for my MK1 BA Turbo that allowed me to plug my I-pod into a 3.5mm jack that was located where the tissue box was.
Hey man. In my 2005 ba falcon won't go into aux mode. Holding it double pressing nothing works. Any ideas?
Do you have an aux module or cable plugged in under the dash? It only switches to AUX if it detects something is plugged in there.
Great video! The ASL box is just a amplifier, it does not remove noise (feedback WTF? 3:17) the engine noise might still be there if you turn off your phone and turn up the ICC volume.
The ASL + Btooth boxes $150 plus freight. The Ford unit amplifier has only with 3.5mm input was $150 in 2007 google "BAF289455BA" now $75
I put a ford unit in my BA Futura sedan worked great no engine noise at all, then moved it to a BAMKII Fairmont Ghia really bad engine noise.
Perhaps you are right. I just noticed it said "line conditioner" on the label, and the feedback noise was no longer heard, so...
I have the same issue bad feedback through the speakers so annoying once you pause a song and volume is up bad whine does my head in
@@ilcopetrovski87 Thats engine noise. Does the whine change when you rev the car? Or It could be electronic buzz. Could be a poor earth connection
@@rods6405 it changes as revs go up so frustrating
@@ilcopetrovski87 then it’s a bad earth pull the icc out and check the earths or re run them
I did it under the dash board and it works good sound is loud and quality is good so idk what you are on about lol
Enjoy. Mine wasn't.
I need antenna on the BF , I only get the ABC .. I'm converted now for Classical musical
totally understand you using what you have alread and i do like this mod but for a couple of bucks you can get a bluetooth module with an aux input which would probably be better for someone buying this new.
Dude that's what I started with. It sounded like ass.
So what's better? This set up or the kit that mats audio makes.
Haven't tried one of his, sorry.
I think your guess is correct. If you've got them the wrong way around it shouldn't damage anything.
@@Andy-pb4jg how did you connect BT power “specifically”?
so i've recently finished this project but after about a week of use the system died, i replaced it with a cheaper model and it happened again, i assume i have a power surge problem but the in line fuse i was using never blown, anyone have a fix? or an idea on what the problem is?
Where did you get your triple gauge holder? Been searching for so long and can only find a double holder
This one is OG probably 15 years old and not made anymore. Last time I checked eBay there were triple holders available but not cheap.
2:26 well, that's an interesting way to censor words :))))
Not tried any sorry!
What was the wiring colours to match to factory loom .
I’m going to do this on my pioneer sph-bt10 and try it with that cuz I’m sick of cranking it to 25-30 while windows done
THANKYOU SO MUCH YOU LEGEND
If you’re gunning for true hands free calls, the Bluetooth kit from an SY2 Territory hooks right up and can also handle streaming as well.
B Series Falcons sadly never had audiophiles in mind with even their “Premium Sound” radios- the amplifier was woeful and the cost-over-quality paper speakers were miserable. You really had to do a DSP or tack on an aftermarket source into the tissue box for acceptable sound.
I have the factory Bluetooth in my BF and while you can stream music the quality is pretty crap. I prefer using an Aux input.
the stock speakers are actually pretty good (when they were new at least) being pioneer 5 x 7s. i remember taking them out of a ba i parted out and throwing them in a toyota starlet, very impressive sound in a small car
Thanks for this mate I want to keep my BA XR6T stock also.
Hey mate , if you've already got the genuine ford ba/bf/territory aux kit that has its own small amplifier similar to that ASL one you show here, could that be wired up the same?
You already have an amp, so just connect any bt to aux connector there and power it how you see fit. ciggy USB connector would suffice.
No calls, sadly. Suits me perfectly though, I hate being on speaker with someone in the car.
Beautiful video. Your content is great it has relatability.
