Before drilling I recommend putting a metal plate (or a couple old credit cards) behind the plastic (easily slides in there) so the drill doesn't go into the cloth.

I know it's 2 years later - but this is exactly what I was going to say. The middle strap is by far the most important. Make sure it's tight, and make sure it's above your calf muscle. For me that worked as well. Check that you're not wearing your pads too low in general!
Ain't nutting wrong with being meticulous were precision is needed Marty, I can definitely see how raising that connection so its above your calf muscle will keep the guards in place where they belong without them riding down your legs. Kudos to you Marty for having an engenius mind. 😜👍👍

Just got a pair of these this morning I only tried them without riding and alredy did that modification since it’s actually really good and more comfortable to wear like this! Thanks for the idea it will surely help keep them in place! I usually just put a turn or two of Electrical tape exactly at this place on my old pads!

There were quiet a few inches between my leg and the plastic. Also, there is the fabric/padding below the plastic. I would have to be a brute with no control over the hand drill to drill into my leg :-)
Definitely important to start your holes as Marty did awl or prick punch, then small drills working up to the desired size. Never try to do it in one shot, that's when accidents are more likely to happen. 😇✌

The fox racing knee guards have a very similar 3 part design, but the straps also have Velcro to adjust their lengths. Mine still slide down my legs though. I’m not sure a new hole would help me, maybe just tighten the middle strap even more. One person suggested criss crossing the top and middle straps, maybe I’ll try that too.

You have a very organized shop. I was saying to my self, "he's not really going to drill that using his leg as a backstop, is he?" At least you drew the line when using the knife. I hope people won't follow your example and use a backer under the plastic when they drill. It will also be easier to keep the plastic from riding up on the drill bit.
What people can't see is that there's another separate hard layer (with a gap) underneath the plastic that I was drilling into. There was zero opportunity for the drill to get to my leg. Thanks :-)
Got mine a week ago for my Sherman. They’re awesome. Wish they came in more colors tho. Great value for the price. For slippage I make sure they’re secure at the top work my way down and re secure the top. Also make sure the top straps are above the calves. And correct sizing s important.
I believe they’re designed to wear will tall ADV or motocross style boots like Sidi of Alpinestars. The bottom of the knee guards have a tapered design which tuck into the top of a riding boot.
Alternative suggestion the cross over: Normally: Rubber band 1 to hole 1, Rubber band 2 to hole 2 Rubber band 3 to hole 3. Change that to: Rubber band 1 to hole 1, Rubber band 2 to hole 3 Rubber band 3 to hole 2. Thereby creating a rubber band cross over the claf muslce curvature? Actually, I think the Leatt's are reasonably priced and are of high quality. There are knee guards that cost 4 to 6 times as much as these Leatt's - that's "very very expensive" :-)
I see that you can clip tha middle strap also to fourth of the shin air vent (counted from the bottom). It looks that it holds firmly there. What I don't like is how wide knee caps of these protectors are. I've L/XL because of recommendation and strap lengths. But S/M have (personally) better fit in knee cap but shin and straps look small and short. I see that your mod provides a bit better angle for the middle strap. So I will drill it as well.
Glad that works for you. I think the issue is that we all have different bodies, including the size and shape of our calf muscles. I've done what you do but it still sometimes slips down my leg.

Yeah, love mine too. But they are of course designed to be worn on a motocross bike where you’d always have your knee bent so that stops them slipping 🙂

STRAPS ARE NOT LONG ENOUGH, many people have tried this before but the other ends wont reach the opposite side. A person must really have extra skinny chicken legs if that works for them.
You could sew in a piece of strap. Then you could criss cross the straps. I think that would work.. I sewed in some extra strap for my backpack which was to short. Works great.
From the video it looks like you drilled down(you are holding it top down)..I hope no one drills down...I will do mine tomorow (leat and also aliexpress one(which I like more,odd)), they allways fall down...thank you
Hi, I don't understand the measuring procedure for the size chart... For large It says measure 5 inches above and below the knee. and then the chart shows > above 16-21 and below 13 to 17... But I don't know what those resulting numbers indicate 61 to 21 what (I assume this is inches) but from where to where do these numbers apply? I need another data point.
How do they slide down someone's leg when they are in the MX boot? Also if they are only a little loose if you cross the two calf straps it helps with movement. If that doesn't work this is a great solution.
From my experience, most people (who ride EUC's, my target audience) don't wear MX boots. Crossing over the calves works for people with skinny legs :-) Thanks!

Love your channel. Have watched a ton of your videos. You and a few other channels were instrumental in my buying a Veteran Sherman. The reason tightening might not work as well is because your leg is essentially a taper, which is what causes the downward slide; less resistance.

I just strap the middle strap up over my calf muscle and it holds the guards up nicely. No new hole needed.

Apparently not. The ability to do this probably depends on how big (or small) your legs are.

Use a flexible tape measure (or a cloth tape measure used for sewing) and wrap it around your leg 5-inches above the knee. Mine is about 18-inches.
