Phantom Regiment warming up with Canon (History bit from the Intro of their 2003 show, Harmonic Journey) at the 2010 Pearl Master of Summer Music Games in Murfreesboro TN on 7/30/10
Such a wholesome sound! That DM had to be just basking in that spot. The icing on the cake was that ECHO!!! Then the director just steps back like nothing happened, lol.
This line IS astounding. Best sounding PR line I ever heard was 1993. Most powerful was 1996. Both were G bugle lines. I would love to hear this arrangement played with G bugles, but there are probably more attainable fantasies.
Way to go Phantom! You guys have the best brass in the business. I'm a trumpet player myself and I just have to comment on the exquisite trumpet sounds, although the rest of the brass are equally impressive. Truly amazing.
I love Phantoms hornline as much as their drumline, they don't have a part of the corp thats better than the other, they're whole corp is just fantastic!!
@Burntheclean I think it's because everyone watching is too stunned at what just happened to even move. I literally shed a tear of joy at the end because it was so beautiful. This is how a release is supposed to be done.
@360Alexrules08 Well Cadets of course! lol Either is good. Michael Klesh is the brass arranger for Carolina Crown.. He was with Cadets as well. Any would be a moving experience, but top 3 is always a new level and will change you for life!
@EatinACookie1 they're half-valving to build up resistance, then when the release from it, the air flows effortlessly, hence the amazing sound of Phantom Regiment :)
Pretty sure he said 4 air. If you watch other videos of them warming up you would see they use 12, 8, 6 (it think), and 4 air. I'm assuming that is the amount of air it takes to sustain a pitch for however many counts.
He's saying they took a quick breath instead of 4 counts of air. You can usually hear if people sip right before they play, so he's saying suck in more air.
@TheSlayer36 ive been told they hold their valves down half way and try to make it sound their best like that, so when they play open, its easier/they can sound better
@IAmMrTrumpet No, I go to McKinney High School in north Texas. We're not famous, but we've gotten very good extremely fast. We have a legitimate shot at the 4A honor band this year.
Mellophones just make things better
oldschooldrumcorps As a trombonist/baritone/tuba player, I'm suppose to hate mellophones... But I can't disagree
Y'all need to mello out about the wonderful mellophone licks. 'kay?
honestly the mellophones carry this piece
this is true
French Horn bugles USED to make things better...just sayin.
7 years later and I think that release is still ringing
Camden Boggio 10 year anniversary of the echo
11 Years and still going
I drove by and it was still going
@@Srgfowler 12 years
13 years!!
Phantom's had the strongest hornline in DCI for years. Love it.
When are they gonna play Ca-----------holy mother of God
The ring at the end gives me life!
Such a wholesome sound! That DM had to be just basking in that spot. The icing on the cake was that ECHO!!! Then the director just steps back like nothing happened, lol.
Cut off. Echo. Cicadas. I would die to return to those warm summer nights playing with my brethren (of another corps, but this is nostalgia inducing)
Possibly one of the best years phantom has ever had and they learned harmonic journey. Truly amazing.
This line IS astounding. Best sounding PR line I ever heard was 1993. Most powerful was 1996. Both were G bugle lines. I would love to hear this arrangement played with G bugles, but there are probably more attainable fantasies.
At 0:31 Someone opened the Door to Heaven 😇💗👌.
1:09 that release gave me chills... Incredible work, Phantom!
I'm a 13 year old contra player and have loved DCI since I was 8 gotta love a contra
Way to go Phantom! You guys have the best brass in the business. I'm a trumpet player myself and I just have to comment on the exquisite trumpet sounds, although the rest of the brass are equally impressive. Truly amazing.
That sound was still in the air after the release.
Oh trust me, it's about 300x better to have your face melted off live by listening to this!
I have heard them live and it gave me the goosebumps
the low brass on that lick from firebird suite at 0:51 tho!
That is hardcore Drum Corps right there! Phantom is always a top notch collection of musicians.
Stravinsky just finished Pachelbel's music for him...
Omg, that echo!
the collective intake of breath at 0:09...... Powerful
Every time I watch this from the beginning, it scares the crap out of me
for a Phantom Regiment they sound like angels
I cannot stop listening
Absolutely awesome chords! I would love to hear them in person one day!
that transition is so beautiful.
I love Phantoms hornline as much as their drumline, they don't have a part of the corp thats better than the other, they're whole corp is just fantastic!!
This just sent a whole new level of chills down my spine
ooohhhhhhh chill bumps for days!
Goosebumps, goosebumps everywhere
I want this played at my funeral.
That release though.
Man, that echo at the end is epic! Also love how the birds and crickets are not bothered in the least by that massive wall of sound.
drool. cant wait to try out this year!
I love that echo
Some day, before I'm dead and gone, I just gotta hear this live.
from Rockford, IL.....Phantom Regiment!!!!!
Director: mellophones how long can you hold that note?
Mellophones: yes
man that cutoff and that echo is just simply stunning... :)
this warmup brings back memories from a really great show when that shit dropped in 03 i had it on repeat for weeks.
The beautiful sound of chords!!!!!
Those leads at the beginning sound so clean, together and crisp.
We're...in the....wolrd...can ....i find...this...ij full..vsesion omg that was amazing!!!
You have no idea what you're in for. It is truly awesome.
the brass caption head for my high school marching band marched phantom in 08... and had our hornline do our own history bit from Appalachian Spring
beautiful
Dear sweet jesus that echo
Sweet baby Jesus I have goosebumps.
@Burntheclean I think it's because everyone watching is too stunned at what just happened to even move. I literally shed a tear of joy at the end because it was so beautiful. This is how a release is supposed to be done.
my band director said this would be our warm up before comps next year
My goosebumps have goosebumps.
Favorite video on youtube...
Good observation then, grats for noticing. And you were lucky to see them in person. I wish I could do that, haha.
i saw this live today :D you can literally feel the the power go through your body :) Amazing moment :)
This is going to be set as my wake-up alarm during marching camp this year.
It's just so great...
@360Alexrules08 Well Cadets of course! lol Either is good. Michael Klesh is
the brass arranger for Carolina Crown.. He was with Cadets as well. Any would
be a moving experience, but top 3 is always a new level and will change you for life!
Me too. It makes it sound like we went to heavan.
Because they played The Firebird a few years later, and plus it fits so well...almost like Pachelbel never got to finish Canon =)
@EatinACookie1 they're half-valving to build up resistance, then when the release from it, the air flows effortlessly, hence the amazing sound of Phantom Regiment :)
whats even more amazing they were playing on Jupiters
Can you guys come play this at my wedding? Best wedding march ever.
greatest sound known to man...
Good God almighty... that tuba line just gave me a diamondcutter!
Pretty sure he said 4 air. If you watch other videos of them warming up you would see they use 12, 8, 6 (it think), and 4 air. I'm assuming that is the amount of air it takes to sustain a pitch for however many counts.
Going to DCI Tonight!!! Murfersuboro Tennessee!!!
That release rang like freedom: from sea to shining sea
0:03 "More Air."
.... Seriously?
That echo.......GEEZUS!!!!
He's saying they took a quick breath instead of 4 counts of air. You can usually hear if people sip right before they play, so he's saying suck in more air.
The mellos rock, I wish I was that good
THE CHILLS
same here!! but I gotta wait till I graduate next year
wow. just wow.
There is a reason this is a summer activity. Ain't nobody got time for drum band corps during school.
And they do it without all the "bobbing" that BD does.
you blew out my headphones!!! :D:D
WOOH!!! Listen to those mellos roar!!
I have a feeling that if I was witnessing this live and right there, I'd be thrown off my feet.
Mellophone lick is my favorite! I am a Bari Guy!
@TheSlayer36 They're half-valving the chord at the beginning of Canon
3 people were blue devils in 2008 when phantom took the crown and earned the title of greatest dci show ever
Love it!!
oh my god those mellos
@TheSlayer36 ive been told they hold their valves down half way and try to make it sound their best like that, so when they play open, its easier/they can sound better
THAT MELLO PART!!!!!!!!
POWER
Watched this, changed my pants... Watched aging, had to get a new keyboard
Oh my god. I had the volume up all the way and my headphones on and I nearly pissed myself
Very nice.
so ya me speakers blew out great job phantom
@BeatDrumSticks they use the jupiter quantum series for their line, the contra's are the jupiter quantum 5080 i believe
@IAmMrTrumpet

This comment, made my night
2 people auditioned for Phantom 2010 and were cut
Listening to PR's low brass is like taking a bath in warm chocolate for my ears.
Best Drum Core out there.
Eargasms all around I believe. Reppin the mellos!
You can hear the breath!! My god
Drumline auditions for me are gonna be tight! I hope i make it!
I don't know if I could hold back tears if I were there. including if i were that dm! lol!
