Killer man I just got a 87 bayou 300 2x4 that sat for 6 years just finished it today she runs good after a new head gasket ,valve seats and carb rebuild and it came with a spare motor 400$ a deal I couldn't pass up
Gas issues is probably your needle and seat. That's what is supposed to shut off the gas. when the bowl gets full. Also sounds like your idle needs adjusted, its too low. Turn it up a bit.

Had a family member give me an early 90's Honda TRX 300. Sat for 6 years, Into $330. And she is a solid runner. Have some brake issues to shore her up. Otherwise good to go. Got to love this old 4 wheelers.
I like those bayous had one as a kid wouldn’t mind having another one just for the great memories I had mine looked at one while back but they are so small now compared to the quads out now but then again I’m more than double the size I was compared to back then I sat on one like my old one but it felt so small
You may need to adjust the float height. So that way your gas will shut off once the float bowl is full. It looks like it’s isn’t shutting off the gas so it’s leaking from overflow.
My dad got his 1999 arctic cat 300 fixed after sitting for 6 years dismantled in my garage when he did the battery was charged and started it with starter fluid and the engine ran away on him and it died and a while later we dragged it out fixed the carb a little and ran the engine to get rid of the crap in the exhaust and. My dad gunned it and it roaled coal and cob webs and smoke and started backfiring it scared the shit out of me it had no tip but he had all the parts for it the exhaust air box and. Back cargo bar and fixed the fenders on the back
I installed that same carb on mine you need to make sure your butterfly isnt rubbing on the inside and make sure its tightly secured mine got stuck full open
You're better off to just go ahead an replace the carbs on these older machines. I had a 2004 honda rancher and 10 years later I had to buy a brand new carb for it. You'll just waste your money buying parts for the old ones. A new one runs between $100-$200 and thats pretty cheap to fix a machine as handy as a 4 wheeler

I'd appreciate the help getting mine up amd running. Long story short, got it for free because "electrical problems" but they've been using it and all I saw was a missing main? fuse. Shorted the connection, gave her a jump, and she started right up. Petcock pisses like a mofo (already ordered a new one) but other than that, all I gotta do is check the oil and later on I think I'll replace the fuel gauge (or just carry a couple gallons). I'd appreciate a reply with any general maintenance stuff I should do. This is my first quad but I've had road bikes before, all caborated cruisers.
I got a 84 250 2By4 all I have ever done to it is change the gas tank and spark plug everything else still Original even the tires Garage kept maybe 2000 miles on it headlight still works one tail light is out Oh yeah forgot had to have a new key made lost the Original
Check the starter solenoid. My connections were corroded on mine. It is located around the battery box. Follow the wire from the starter to it. That may not help you but it was just a thought. Sometimes those solenoids go bad and you can tap on it with a screwdriver and it will work, sometimes. I think I picked that carb up from Amazon for under $30 . I got a 93 out new carb in and air filter and spark plug turns over but won’t fire. Gonna replace petcock and dump the gas out and try again. Killed the battery trying to get it over though will have to recharge thanks for the tips
I can't remember how I did this exact one but I have done several and they are all about the same. Just find a way to get the key part separated from the plastic cover. Inside you will find a bunch of little pins and springs. Just pull them all out and put it back together. Now any thing will turn the switch. I will make a video up this weekend to show how it's done. I should have showed that part but I got carried away working on it off camera. Thanks for watching my video and your comments. Yes that was all I had at the moment in my garage. I only used a little to test out the first start. I bought an oil change kit for this ATV and do an oil change on part 3 with the right stuff.

Check the needle that is connected to the float, if that has any gunk or damage it won't shut off the fuel when the fuel chamber is full.

those chinese carbs are awesome. I've installed 3 on 3 different machines and they all run great with a minor rejet (Used factory jets)

I found that it's so much easier to work on with the rear fend removed.

Float valve is not seating closed. I use braded coper wire and a drill to clean the valve seat and to polish it

Your fuel drain screw on the bowl of the carburetor was open

I bought two new carbs from amazon they still leaked now i bought 2 different rebuild kits and still leaks also cleaned tank and replaced petcock
Put a piece of hose on the bottom fitting that's leakin and thread a screw into it

Yea I I commented in the middle of the video but if you have a float get stuck again hit the carb with a screw driver and it normally will free it up

Theres a number of "brands" but they are all basically the same Chinese carb
