From all the videos of foreigners trying South African foods, I think this is the best. Its very accurate and neutral. I like that you're not narrow minded like most of the other TH-camrs. Open minded and respectful. Most South Africans don't even eat Peck's Anchoviette yet you seem to appreciate the exotic taste. Good on yah!
Priyen Govender Achovette is something we used to eat in Australia on toast with butter as well......but it's kind of from the past or older generations. I ate it as a young child.
El Gringo I eat Peck’s Anchovies all the time. Love it on bread. Takes me back to my school years and I had anchovy sarmies (sandwiches) as packed lunch.
I love watching these videos rather than others because Emmy doesn't judge the food and go "UGH IT TASTES HORRIBLE! WHO EATS THIS!?!" She explains what it tastes like in a respectful way. Love u Emmy!❤️
Those kinda people honestly bore me to the core I feel like having a talk with them about how an amazing place South Africa is and a lot of people are very lucky to live there 😠😠😠
I'm not but I have a good appreciation for South African stuff because of having an apartment neighbor friend who was from there a few years ago and meeting a few more here and there along the way. I've been making biltong at home for almost a year now.
See television shows like 90 day fiance don't the country's true natures. Often what they show is edited or scripted with false information or the fiancee is told to embellish their country if it's known for some thing not good
it's so refreshing to see you smelling, tasting, and describing new foods rather than having extreme exaggerated reactions like a lot of other tasting videos :)
+Jane As Per Usual I can't thumbs up your comment enough. I love her descriptions. Very specific and not exaggerated at all, plus no foulness like saying something tastes like "ass" or just being vague like saying something tastes like "sadness". She has a super relaxing voice and is so skilled. One of the most underrated food youtubers IMHO.
What surprises me about Emmy is how she remembers all the food she has eaten, like "it looks like the food I had 5 months ago from England" I can't even remember what I ate this morning.
can I just say you are the only youtube who does these "trying food from some country" without offending anyone! It is amazing and I love these videos so much. Even if you don't necessarily like it, you don't spit it out or act like its the worst thing in the world. Love you emmi.
I live in South Africa so I have them all the time. The creme soda fizzer gets fizzier when you eat more of it, it has sherbet in it. Creme Soda is a popular soft drink in South Africa, it doesn't have the vanilla flavour that the American one has and the colour of the drink is light green. The pecks anchovette paste is great on hot buttered toast.
Best South African taste test of them all... really like the way you describe our stuff that we eat, and all round i was smiling the whole time at your reaction and just made me feel happy! loved the way that if you don't like it you say it really low key and you don't dwell on how bad something is for you!!
emmymadeinJapan, love your video. Probably first most respectful & politest video of South African snacks tried. Most videos are rude and degrading / very offensive... not yours, Thank you for your lovely comments & glad you liked our most treasured treats. :) #I'mProudly South African!!#Come visit SA sometime. ;)
I just wanted to say thank you for making these videos! You don't know how much they help. I have 4 mental illnesses, on their own it wouldn't be bad, but because they're mixed together, I'm disabled because of them and my episodes can last up to 2-3 months. Your voice is so soothing and these videos are so much fun to watch and I always look forward to watching them. So thank you Emmy!
Regtig? Groot geword op 'n plot, klein skooltjie op keil dorpie gewees.... Bilton pap en sheba Maar moet se ek het meer Bar One's gekies en nie baie peppermint crisps nie
You are soooooo cute!!!! I am South-African and I love that your videos aren't offensive or rude. I like your face when you are surprised by the taste! Totally just subscribed!
Oh wow, you're definitely one of the better food reviewers I've seen! You actually put time into describing the food, and seem very respectful and open to trying the different things. As a South African, this video was a treat to see. (Also, you're such a cutie!) Subscribed!
i've used the tennis biscuits as a base in a peppermint crisp and caramel tart. It's fantastic! I used the peppermint crisp chocolate in the creamy filling and as a topping. you should google a recipe and try it. thanks for the milk tip with the peppermint crisp, I would have never ever tried that, but now I will
Faaantastic. I love you. I just watched the most disrespectful video before I saw this one. It's called Australians taste South African food and it's the most disgusting display of rudeness, opinionatedness and downright stuck up bunch I've ever seen. Check it out and tell me what you think. Also have it a thumbs down
I'm South African, and I loved this video. I have seen a few other youtubers do South African treats and yours is by far the best. I love most of the products you tried, it was a good variety too. Next you need to try the peppermint crisp tart your friend mentioned, it is heavenly!
Wow I love how she is so sweet and soft and she is describing all the foods in such a respectful way and not making any rude remarks😌 Proud South African btw❤❤
So nice to see you love South african treats! And that is just the beginning of our favourites :) We use that exact same same peppermint crisp, for the peppermint crisp tart, with the tennis biscuits, whipped cream and tinned caramel treat. My favourite! :D
Those were amazing especially the peppermint candy bar at the end!!! As before, having an illness where I am unable to eat and get all my nutrition via IV, your descriptions of the taste, texture and smell is just so incredible!!! It truly makes me feel like I can taste them. Thank you for that! 💜
Had a literal freak out when I saw the title of this video!. I'm from South Africa and I've been wanting to send you a box full of South African treats now for so long :). I'm so glad someone decided to send you a box of some of our special food :D
I’ve been binging your videos for the last few weeks. It seems I’m late to the party but I’m enjoying every minute of it!! I love the way Emmy describes all the different foods. Even if she doesn’t like it she’s still respectful in her response. I’m definitely hooked...beautiful lovelies.
the fish paste can be eatrn in so many different ways. Some of my favourite ways are on toast or the fish paste mixed with a little mayonnaise on some fresh bread.
Yeah!! A South African video. I am from South Africa, and these are a great selection of treats from our country. The peppermint crisp bar and tennis biscuits are my favorite and is both used to make the peppermint crisp tart. We usually make this for Christmas and special occasions. My biggest craving when pregnant was for fish paste. I would eat it on white buttered toast with a cup of rooibos tea.
Hi Emmy, I love your videos and this one was tops for me...I live in South Africa and was so excited to see your reaction to the goodies you were trying. The Fish Paste we normally have on hot buttered toast. Ive also put it on a sandwich with some slices of tomato and cheese. Lovely L mentioned the peppermint crisp tart in her letter and that they use the tennis biscuits as a base...well we use the Peppermint crisp bar in the tart too. The fizzer does fizz slightly if you suck on it a little :)
I adore you Emmy! You seem like a truly thankful person which, in a world full of people who are entitled to the smallest of things, is absolutely refreshing.
+FT W Wow it looks like a Mr Big bar from Canada which is also made by Cadbury. I wonder if it's all the same bar and named and packaged differently in different countries?
OccasionalVlogger I wouldn't be surprised. I've seen videos of people eating things that I know are named something completely different here but are virtually the same thing. I think Nestle do the same thing. A pain in the butt when you go looking for something and its only under a different name lol
Hi Emmy, I'm South African living in Dubai. Haven't had most of these snacks in over 10 years!! We usually have fish paste on buttered toast. I used to love eating it with buttered toast and grated cheddar cheese over! Super yummy! I loved watching your video!! Memories , yum yum ! Fizzers don't "fizz", it just has a yummy sour taste :)
I love watching her videos. I learn how interesting food that I'd never get a chance to try, tastes, or how it's made. She's so descriptive I can almost taste what she's eating. But the best part is just Emmy herself. Her way of speaking makes you feel like you're right there with her, & she's so stinkin cute!
I must say, I've seen a few of these videos today to see what other people think of our south African snaks, this is BY FAR the best response I've ever seen... And the way she describes all the flavors is amazing...
In Australia we have Nestles Peppermint Crisp it's very popular topping for Pavlova with fresh whipped cream, we also have Pecks Spreads and Fizzers but I never knew they were made in Sth Africa and we have Appletiser a sparkling Apple Juice very popular with non drinkers like myself. 🙂🇦🇺🇿🇦
+Rachel Taylor We in South Africa have Appletiser, Grapetiser in 2 flavours red and white, or whatever the other grape colour is, and Peartiser. It's made in South Africa so that's why we get all the flavours.
Rachel Taylor Pavlova topped with a peppermint crisp sounds wonderful. Haven't had Pavlova since I was a kid. The Appletizer drink sounds really good too, its sounds very refreshing.
I'm from South Africa. The fish paste we usually eat on bread with butter. And the Peppermint Crisp bar is what e use to make the peppermint tart you talked about hen you ate the Tennis biscuits that they use for the crust.
hi there, i am from South Africa and i have learned something new, its the first time i heard about drinking milk with a peppermint crisp, you make me want to try it now.
Welldone. I felt a bit nostalgic away from home so got up some South African videos of people tasting SA food and you were the 5th video in. I have to say yours was the best and finally someone who's eaten the peppermint crisp properly
I have never met a person that can describe food so welly 😂 idk y but I loving watching these videos they are just satisfying 😂😂😊 keep up the good work Emmy 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️
I agree with you. There are quite a few folk out there doing the taste videos, but of all of them Emmy gives the best descriptions of what she is eating.
So I have been searching foreigners eating South African food on the web and youtube as I am a South African and I like to hear the reactions and see them, and this vid is the best one out there, its honest no dramatic effects or reactions, full of detail and she actually ate the food correctly, pronounced the correct names and was just simply a delight to watch, I am a sub asof today!
I'm from South Africa! My favorite chocolate is the Peppermint Crisp and also a Crunchy bar, which is almost the same effect as a Peppermint Crisp, only filled with honey cake instead. The Anchovette is usually eaten on buttered toast or crackers, so you ate it right! Thank you so much for making this video. I enjoy seeing familiar foods on TH-cam from time to time.
+Cornelia Roos Peppermint Crisp and Crunchies are NOT the same in texture/effect at all! Crunchies have a thick golden coloured Honeycomb (or what is called Sea Foam or Sea Sponge Candy in other places) that's Caramel or Toffee flavoured with Milk Chocolate coating (it's not called Honey Cake!) and a Peppermint Crisp has a flatter, fragile, tubular, bright green center that has quite an intense Cooling Mint taste with the Milk Chocolate coating as an after taste.
+lmaree200886 I meant that they have the same effect when it comes to stickyness. after chewing both they tend to become very sticky and stick to your teeth. You don't have to be agro about it. It's my opinion about something I have tasted, I am entirely entitled to it. So are you.
Cornelia Roos How am I agro? Did I insult you? No, I didn't. All I did was disagree and say what the treats really were like! Using exclamations doesn't always mean agro, it's used to be emotional. Majority of sweets are sticky, maybe next time say that cause your comment was confusing to what you originally meant. My reply was my interpretation of yours. Okay?
+lmaree200886 you definitely sound Argo and she has the right to her opinion, she doesn't have to clarify. There is a thing call written etiquette, so if you ment to be Argo or not, your etiquette just screamed aggressive and self righteous
Emmy! I love how descriptive you are, you catch all the bits of essence - why we love our South African products the way we do.. What we do to make the peppermint-crisp-tart that miss Elle was talking about was we take those Tennis biscuits and crumble them with butter, which we compress ( with a spoon) to form the crust, then we take a tinned caramel and whip it up with cream for the filling. The most important bit is the grated Peppermint crisp bar - the Nestle one you tasted and you spread it over the base. Some people create layers by swapping between these three layers - the tennis biscuit, caramel and peppermint, which creates lovely layered textures. it's then (optionally) refrigerated.... sorry for the long comment - just one last thing, if you ever do a segment where you try different teas from all over the world, South Africa has a Rooibos tea, which is actually used in some cosmetic products... but it is (highly recommended) to drink it quite strong, with a bit of honey and a slice of lime. We also make a Red Esspresso with this tea. Take care :)
I really enjoyed this video - it has been years since I was home in South Africa, and hearing you delight in and describe each treat made the memories flood back. My father eats anchovette on toast (sometimes with cheese too). The first time I had cream soda in the USA I was shocked at the vanilla flavor - our cream soda is very sweet with a hint of a lime flavor.
+Heather Rennie have you tried eBay or Amazon? They often have things like that for sale. You could also try looking for South African grocery stories or search for "biltong" which is similar to beef jerky. In the UK you can get some stuff from Ocado as well. In the US I think you may be able to find independent shops that sell imported goodies from South Africa.
I'm from South Africa :D It's so nice! The best is to bite off both sides of the bar and use it like a straw in a glass of milk! Makes like a chocolate mint milk drink :D!
I love this!! I agree with what everyone is saying about you being so respectful and kind with your reviews! I also love that you say "it tastes similar to..." some TH-camrs just say oh this is just a... You are wonderful!
Great selection! I remember visiting South Africa two years ago, and came back with a slew of snacks, including Eet Sum Mors. I also had their Marie Biscuits, Romany Creams, and different Cadbury chocolate bars.
YAY!!! so excited you did a South African tasting :). The fish paste is usually eaten on toast so let your kiddos try it (if you think they might like it). With the Barone, melt it and drizzle it on vanilla ice cream. It makes THE BEST ice cream sauce and the easiest.
Emmy I have just subscribed to your channel and I absolutely love your reviews and how much love and personality that you put into each one. I first start watched your review of the Zapp's potato chips and the Voodoo are my favorites. We have a similar palate and I am so glad to have a channel to see food from other cultures. I am from GA and I love to see all the cultural flavors you pull off or test! Cheers!
the peppermint crisp and tennis biscuits are ingredients that makes up parts of a peppermint tart. it's so so delicious, one of the best south african tarts ever!
Hi Emmy, the Cadburys Lunch Bar is called 'Picnic' here in the U.K. I used to love them when I was a kid. I didn't realise that they still made them! So, I shall be getting some from Amazon as they have them there, thanks for reminding me of one of my childhood treats. Bill
What a great little package! Very nice to see more treats from new countries. I have to say, that is the most beautiful face. You looked like Maru the cat!
u are so pretty!!! im from South africa and bar one is my fav chocolate EVER, when u were describing them, tou sounded like willie wonka from Charlie and the chocolate factory, with all the scrumptious lol, not bieng rude, just a joke around comment i hope i didnt offend u😦😦😦
Absolutely delighted after watching this video Excellent selection from Ms L Peppermint Crisp is uniquely South-African, invented here - sold in Australia and NZ
Pecks Anchovette (which we call "Fish Paste" in South Africa) is usually eaten on hot buttered toast. Some restaurants serve it for breakfast with slivers of pickles, cucumber and tomato on the side. It is eaten in South Africa as a toast spread, much like Bovril, Marmite, Jam/Marmalade and Vegemite.
On point
El Gringo I eat Peck’s Anchovies all the time. Love it on bread. Takes me back to my school years and I had anchovy sarmies (sandwiches) as packed lunch.
This girl is so delightful!!! You're susppossed to eat the spread on toast, and you are so sweet!! South Africa endorses you.
I love watching these videos rather than others because Emmy doesn't judge the food and go "UGH IT TASTES HORRIBLE! WHO EATS THIS!?!" She explains what it tastes like in a respectful way. Love u Emmy!❤️
yea when people do that i feel like making a video saying how awful their foods taste :p
Very true.
Those kinda people honestly bore me to the core
I feel like having a talk with them about how an amazing place South Africa is and a lot of people are very lucky to live there 😠😠😠
They think they know everything 😬
Agree
I'm sure most viewers are South African because most of us get excited when a video is about SA due to its lack of popularity on YT
CallMeTammy so true! But I moved to England so am not there anymore but I did live there for 11 years so I will always be a true South African 😂💖
I'm not but I have a good appreciation for South African stuff because of having an apartment neighbor friend who was from there a few years ago and meeting a few more here and there along the way. I've been making biltong at home for almost a year now.

I love watching her videos. I learn how interesting food that I'd never get a chance to try, tastes, or how it's made. She's so descriptive I can almost taste what she's eating. But the best part is just Emmy herself. Her way of speaking makes you feel like you're right there with her, & she's so stinkin cute!
oh and btw im south african and you eat anchovette with toast :) typically at breakfast
Same! she should of tried chappies :( XD
she is so much better than that other video with those three people saying we eat leaves I saw you commenting there as well
+Marc Lotter totally
+Forest Fawn101 definitely
Warm toast with loads of butter and anchovette...lovely!
+Rachel Taylor Appletizers are lovely! I wish we had the other flavours her in Aus! Don't forget that the Lunch bar is like our Picnic too!
And the Peppermint Crisp bar is what e use to make the peppermint tart you talked about hen you ate the Tennis biscuits that they use for the crust.
it made me smile when she enjoys something it make me even more proud to be South African
Minkie Mousexoxo SAME I think that South Africa has so e of the best snacks it the world!!!
Ansonica Gilchrist definitely
I just now stumbled across your videos and I love them!! I love how descriptive you are as well! Very informative! Thank you for sharing!!
i like , u don't insult
ja, at least shes not doing it verbally...
Mickey Lala Emmy is always respectful even if she tates something and it turns out she doesnt like it much.
hi there, i am from South Africa and i have learned something new, its the first time i heard about drinking milk with a peppermint crisp, you make me want to try it now.
I am south African and I approve this video, Emmy such a positive review! Thank you
Paul Ellis SO TRUE

Okay?
+lmaree200886 omg your getting worked up over nothing. Grow up a little
+lmaree200886 you definitely sound Argo and she has the right to her opinion, she doesn't have to clarify. There is a thing call written etiquette, so if you ment to be Argo or not, your etiquette just screamed aggressive and self righteous
Thank you for loving 🇿🇦 snacks…. So happy you got to try most of my favorites now need some fish paste on toast with butter.
I have Waited so long for you to do SA! I'm originally from there and live in the UK now and no food compares to South Africa!!!
I'm south African but I live in Spain and I agree with you
When Emmy's stomach grumbled, i thought it was mine omg
Me too lmao
I really enjoyed this video - it has been years since I was home in South Africa, and hearing you delight in and describe each treat made the memories flood back. My father eats anchovette on toast (sometimes with cheese too). The first time I had cream soda in the USA I was shocked at the vanilla flavor - our cream soda is very sweet with a hint of a lime flavor.
I really want to try the peppermint crisp bar as I love mint and chocolate together yum😊
Me too! I want to taste the intense mint crunch with the sweet milk chocolate. Emmy makes it sound so good 😋
+NoirKittie hmm im from South Africa
+Heather Rennie have you tried eBay or Amazon? They often have things like that for sale. You could also try looking for South African grocery stories or search for "biltong" which is similar to beef jerky. In the UK you can get some stuff from Ocado as well. In the US I think you may be able to find independent shops that sell imported goodies from South Africa.
I'm from South Africa :D It's so nice! The best is to bite off both sides of the bar and use it like a straw in a glass of milk! Makes like a chocolate mint milk drink :D!
U and me both
I love this!! I agree with what everyone is saying about you being so respectful and kind with your reviews! I also love that you say "it tastes similar to..." some TH-camrs just say oh this is just a... You are wonderful!
Putting together an Oregon box for you! I think you'll like it :)
+Jessica Waldo Can't wait!
+emmymadeinjapan we have nik nacks in the uk too
+emmymadeinjapan cool channel hope you enjoyed our snacks from SA
+james fry brits had a huge influence on SA
I love living in Oregon. Best place on earth. At least for me.
Great selection! I remember visiting South Africa two years ago, and came back with a slew of snacks, including Eet Sum Mors. I also had their Marie Biscuits, Romany Creams, and different Cadbury chocolate bars.
so nice appreciating south african candy
YAY!!! so excited you did a South African tasting :). The fish paste is usually eaten on toast so let your kiddos try it (if you think they might like it). With the Barone, melt it and drizzle it on vanilla ice cream. It makes THE BEST ice cream sauce and the easiest.
I watch tons of these because I like the crunching for some reason.
Me too
Search ASMR
Emmy I have just subscribed to your channel and I absolutely love your reviews and how much love and personality that you put into each one. I first start watched your review of the Zapp's potato chips and the Voodoo are my favorites. We have a similar palate and I am so glad to have a channel to see food from other cultures. I am from GA and I love to see all the cultural flavors you pull off or test! Cheers!
The fishpaste is usually eaten on toast :) I miss it soooo much since moving to Japan. Awesome videos by the way :)
lucky i want to move to japan
+Zainab Magdy Abu Elfadl me too. I love to live in Japan but I don't think I would like fish paste.

I could watch you forever. You're too sweet and I like your opinions about when you taste those things. Love you , love your channel.♥
That lunch bar from Cadbury is like our Mr.Big chocolate bar here in Canada :)
Ikr it's so good;)
I love how positive you are about everything 😊
In the title it says that Emma eats South Africa,my reaction: please don't it my country, how do you plan to eat a whole country anyway?
Hi Emmy, the Cadburys Lunch Bar is called 'Picnic' here in the U.K. I used to love them when I was a kid. I didn't realise that they still made them! So, I shall be getting some from Amazon as they have them there, thanks for reminding me of one of my childhood treats.
Bill
Pecks is a tough one. I've only ever really enjoyed it on warm toast with melted butter.
I'm surprised she actually enjoyed it. I've never really been a big fan of it since it has a really strong fishy taste and smell.
+Claris Richter same here I didn't think she was actually going to eat it
What a great little package!

Hey, that would be swell. I think Denmark was the 2nd country I ever ate! :)
+emmymadeinjapan lol
No send meh the food
okay!
