      The only thing I don't quite agree is that cost isn't the only reason stock cars don't come with Clutch based LSDs. I recently put a 2way in my drift car. Those LSDs aren't made for the average daily driver. I got treated clutch disks, so they are quieter than most, but based on how I apply throttle, it still clunks and burns rubber. In wet conditions, it can be dangerous to drive. It also requires regular maintenance with a similar oil change interval as engine oil. Compared to my gear based sti, the sti is a brainless LSD that won't affect daily driving and requires no real maintenance.

      I’ve found that experts in something can explain the different aspects of their field/expertise so well that a 14 year old could understand it. When you truly know the ins and outs of what you’re doing, you can break it down to its simplest components and build it back up to help a smooth brain understand not only what’s what, but why

    • @drevnykot
      @drevnykot 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FrickenHamster also planetary diffs (relatives to early quattro systems) are better in loose surface when you don't actually want to go full throttle and EVO is knwn from rallying on loose surfeces, not on tracks

    I remember my first drive in my 02' WRX with a 07' STi 6speed. First corner I took under power felt amazing. Totaly transformed the car for two reasons. 2nd gear in the WRX 5 speed is too tall. On slow speed corners engine is so low in rev range it just bogs on corner exit plus the front is a open diff. 2nd gear on a STi trans is perfect for low speed corners. It keeps the car higher in the rev range and with the addition of a LSD it just grips and goes. Best modification made.

    That tech talk was masterful! I do my own rear gears on my rear wheel drive vehicles. My mustang has a Detroit tru-trac LSD which is helical gears. I wasn't exactly sure how it worked, but i knew i wanted it. Mainly cause there's no clutches to wear out and it seems more robust. Maybe a good clutch set up is just as good. I would have liked to hear them talk a little bit more about the 2 way LSD and the 3 way LSD and how they work. 💪

    Helicals are better in some applications. Usually for the rear since weight transfer goes to the back helical differentials are better. They're torque based as opposed to speed differential based so in low grip applications it does a better job of finding the wheel with more grip while still utilizing the grip available on the other wheel.
