i just saw the Evo X final edition from my local dealer. It is so sad that the evolution has become an extinction. Was my dream car for all my high school times.
As a Evo fan, given consideration to the fact that this is old, I still must say putting a sedan up against a hatchback is not exactly a fair match up. Especially because he was using the FQ-360 model. Why not just the base model Evo? However, I would like to see a face off between the 2011 Impreza S206 with the NBR Package and a 2010 Lancer Evo X FQ-400. That would be more exciting.
The old WRXs and old Evos look way better then their newer models. Honestly, if I were given a choice to either get a 2007 Subaru WRX or a 2015 Subaru WRX for free, I'd pick the 2007.
When Clarkson says about the Evo that "you can have a crash and that it will still keep going" That's an absolute fact. I myself rolled the car 4 times and the second it got back on its wheels it kept going. It took a telephone poll to stop it, and it still managed to snap the pole in half. All of this happened in about 5 seconds so it's not like I did it on purpose or had any time to react. Nobody was hurt but me, and needless to say I definitely learned a lesson in reckless driving. Edit: I also had the less powerful version which he described towards the end of the video
I have an evo x and I got rear ended by a big truck at a red light, but no damage. Another time my dumbass reversed into my sisters SUV, but my carbon trunk took the hit and had a small scratch while her truck had nasty dent.
man I love them both, and have owned them both, but the performance of the evo is better, the shifting is smother, but man the sound of that turbo boxer is so great , 8 out of 10 for them both
Gotta hand it to the Evo... I've always loved the STi, (especially the sound) but with each year the Impreza loses more and more personality, and well... looks. Now it's actually kinda ugly? The Lancer definitely withstood the test of time.
Venery Longboarders They have announced that the lancers will be returning in 2015 with a redesign to boot. They also said the Evo version of the lancers will be around 500bhp.
As much as we argue back and forth of which one is better, I think must of us agree we would either have one or the other. They are both great cars in a league of their own. The fact we can rally cross together, than on the way home play with 911's is quite brilliant.
I will settle all these BUTTHURT fan boys of Subaru's and the Mitsubishi's comment from a "stock" point of view. Mitsubishi is a far better "TRACK" vehicle that produces better lap times, turns, acceleration, and stoppage power. Subaru is a far better "RALLY" vehicle that produces better off road handling, superior suspension, impeccable symmetrical AWD, engine reliability with a combined power, balance, and efficiency ratio, and their resale values with age are astonishingly good.
Christian Valencia Hi to you guys! be checking out of my great audition tape for replacing of the Jeremy Carlton from the Top Gear! I am reviewing of the Subaru Impreza WRX STI also, and it is being most nice.

I'm a happy WRX owner and I have never driven an EVO. Every person I've ever talked to that have driven both will say that they liked how the EVO is a tighter and more precise car than an STI. Don't get me wrong, my last car was an R53 Mini and one of the things that took the most getting used to is the vague and lower quality feel, and that is one thing I'd love to see Subaru improve on. Even with the worse feel though, my WRX has more all out grip than my Mini did. I am a bit annoyed by this review because, I don't think it's ugly, apparently Jeremy Clarkson is the only person on the planet that thinks an EVO sounds better, and if you want to say it will do donuts around an STI endlessly you should probably try to prove it in a take that is longer than 1 second... At the end of the day... they're still competitors and it's up to each person to decide what they want. My feel has always been that the EVO is the more bleeding edge of technology car that at the end of the day, just doesn't have the same amount of character that a Subaru has, and Subaru has always been the blunt instrument. Performance wise they're pretty close with two different approaches. Actually relatively worried for Subaru though because with the 2015 they've tried to make it too similar to the EVO... new WRX is a 2.0L with EL headers and a twin scroll turbo and direct injection. So there goes the boxer rumble and (presumably) low end torque offered by displacement, so I sure hope they can compete!
At least we know if the worlds rivers dry up, we still have a reliable source of water readily available. All you need to say is an Evo is superior to a WRX and just watch the tears flow.

Eric Keating What was bad about the 3000gt? I've always found them to be quite a fun drive. Reasonably powered and great around corners. It's not an evo, but it was good competition against rx7's and the like.
IcyThaneProductions yes was the first year for sti in America not sure about Europe but they reason the didnt go for that one is because they wanted to compare both modern versions
The whole episode sums it up pretty well. Subaru is faster as standard, obviously because it is lighter and has more powerful engine. While Mitsubishi is far easier to drive and therefor has better handling, because of more advanced 4wd system. Both are fantastic cars. Now it's just a matter of personal preference, which one to go with.
Ah, this will always be one of the great debates in the car world. The 4WD Turbo series. I have owned a Subaru Impreza but have lusted after the EVO since it came to the USA. Bummer, I can find one that isn't modified locally for purchase.
I'd have the Impreza. I've always preferred the Impreza to the Evo. Don't know why, but, I always have. I always found it more appealing and characterful. The Impreza's I remember when I was a little boy were the original Impreza Turbo, the 22b and the 220 bhp WRX Bugeye.
D13H4RD2L1V3 Most people I know prefer the earlier Evos. I, myself, always thought of the Evo 9 as the definitive Evo, but 8s are fantastic too. On style, though, there's not beating the Evo 4, shame you can't get those in the States (at least not easily).
D13H4RD2L1V3 , you are absolutely right. The best ever Mitsubishi Evolution is the Evo 8. BUT, it is not the car of this particular TOP GEAR episode. P.S. I personally LOVE the EVO 8.
Except the EJ257 is crap and because of its faulty design they have lots of rod bearing issues. Don't get me wrong, I like the STi more, I just can't afford to rebuild whenever it decides to knock a piston.
Subie seems to get further and further from its roots every year. The Evo has always had the greater potential, and flawless driveline controls; its the true driver's car.
Don Corleone I was born in 95, the number means nothing. And the reason the evo isn't made for dirt is because its suspension is far too stiff, its power doesn't shift well enough, and from what I've felt in the past, its weight distribution is far too off 50%. Not to mention all that power they were using to do rings around the subi may be fine on pavement, but on dirt that means you're going to spend more time spinning your wheels than actually going anywhere.
I was a fan of Subarus, but after my Subaru Impreza GT has costed me over 6000 in repairs over less than 6 months (engine-failure, and gearbox), i've decided to try Evo for my next purchase.. Will miss the scoop though.
Here are three attempts Jeremy Clarkson screwed up the driving experience on the Subaru Impreza round a corner: 3:56: Too much understeer and power on the throttle 4:15: Even worse by knocking a man's bovril 4:27: Stupidly knocked all the spectators and broke the cameras causing static
Let me explain why the Evo is better for all of you out there. The STI boxer engine is unreliable, hard to work on, and too far over the front wheels which causes a lot of understeer as shown in the video. The STI's also have a lot of problems with their gearbox and it was disappointing that subaru did not fix it in the newer model. I have driven the EVO VI, IX, and X, and also driven a few STI's and I'm sorry to say but it's true that evo's do feel better on the road and handle better. Both good cars but the EVO edges the Subaru and comes out on top.
this is one of evo's best vs subaru's absolute worst version STi. and really it is a myth that these engines are unreliable or they are hard to work on. It depends on the driver and how he/she takes care of it. also the technical aspects of the evo vs the pure rawness of the STi on how they were built will indeed put the evo in front because it is made to be driven easily on a track as the computer controls are doing most of the work, while in the STi it depends more on how skilled the driver is. I personally prefer the handling and feeling of the STi having absolute controll, even if there is understeer, I can make it to were i can get as good times compared to the evo, because i know how to drive these cars. while maybe while you drove the STi after the evo you were expecting it to feel like it to handle as good because of computer control, all the while the Evo has made you softer to the feeling of the car, so when you got in the STi you sucked a little bit more LOL. Just my two cents Both are good cars sad to see the EVO go but hey mistubishi isnt that great of a car company to were they werent making enough money to have a sports car model, plus you gotta feel like such a sissy with the paddle shifting bro, come on
thepancakes jr I wouldn't know the exact reason, however just because product A is clearly better than product B, doesn't mean product A will be more profitable/garner most market share. Just google betamax vs vhs for one example.
Ender Lord Of course. Both of these cars are great, it mainly comes down to personal preference. A three second difference around the track doesn't really matter that much in the real world.

@@seavixen125 and don’t forget about the head gasket replacement on the Subie
And interiors from the 1990s, and more rust than a brand new Ford 😂
I cant belive how old those videos are
The whole episode sums it up pretty well. Subaru is faster as standard, obviously because it is lighter and has more powerful engine. While Mitsubishi is far easier to drive and therefor has better handling, because of more advanced 4wd system. Both are fantastic cars. Now it's just a matter of personal preference, which one to go with.
Lemme just say I love both cars
Evo
"I know the entry speed in this corner for a Ferrari or Lamborghini is 65. I've just gone in at a hundred." Laughed pretty loudly there xD
Ah, this will always be one of the great debates in the car world. The 4WD Turbo series. I have owned a Subaru Impreza but have lusted after the EVO since it came to the USA. Bummer, I can find one that isn't modified locally for purchase.
I love it at 4:38 When you can see the dummy's in the background in peaces!
so the evo they tested on the track had 360 hp and other bits. while they used a stock sti @305 hp and stock suspension? real fair.
the evo was stock it was just the top range model, it really isn't that hard to understand
West Is Best FQ400 is top model.
+Alexander Shepard there is an fq440 europe only

2000s:There are
2021:There is
I'd have the Impreza. I've always preferred the Impreza to the Evo. Don't know why, but, I always have. I always found it more appealing and characterful. The Impreza's I remember when I was a little boy were the original Impreza Turbo, the 22b and the 220 bhp WRX Bugeye.
I'm the only one who prefers the Evo 8 instead, huh?
D13H4RD2L1V3 Most people I know prefer the earlier Evos. I, myself, always thought of the Evo 9 as the definitive Evo, but 8s are fantastic too. On style, though, there's not beating the Evo 4, shame you can't get those in the States (at least not easily).
D13H4RD2L1V3 no you are not alone! :D
D13H4RD2L1V3 , you are absolutely right. The best ever Mitsubishi Evolution is the Evo 8. BUT, it is not the car of this particular TOP GEAR episode.
P.S. I personally LOVE the EVO 8.
D13H4RD2L1V3 My favorite - Lancer Evo 6 ^^
D13H4RD2L1V3 no you are not the only one who prefers the Evo8
Except the EJ257 is crap and because of its faulty design they have lots of rod bearing issues.
Don't get me wrong, I like the STi more, I just can't afford to rebuild whenever it decides to knock a piston.
Miss the old top gear :'(
BOTH of them are super excited!!!
Subie seems to get further and further from its roots every year. The Evo has always had the greater potential, and flawless driveline controls; its the true driver's car.
I still prefer my Saab!
Boy, go home. Your drunk
+cbr cruz LOL
+cbr cruz *You're.
Oh, why thank you.
till you have to get it serviced
get the cars on dirt where the subaru is meant to be
just like the evo ffs.
Silva DLM lol
Don Corleone It's funny that you think the evo was made for dirt. That's cute, now go away. People who know what they're talking about are present.
mutilator97 so explain to me exactly why is the evo not meant for dirt? and judging by your name , you were born in 97 probably cant even drive lol
Don Corleone
I was born in 95, the number means nothing.
Both cars going strong to this day on vehicle checker
Remember the time Mitsubishi when it didn't suck this bad?
Mitsubishi is a bigger company than Subaru.
I was a fan of Subarus, but after my Subaru Impreza GT has costed me over 6000 in repairs over less than 6 months (engine-failure, and gearbox), i've decided to try Evo for my next purchase.. Will miss the scoop though.
Here are three attempts Jeremy Clarkson screwed up the driving experience on the Subaru Impreza round a corner:
3:56: Too much understeer and power on the throttle
4:15: Even worse by knocking a man's bovril
4:27: Stupidly knocked all the spectators and broke the cameras causing static
At least subaru made a better version in 2015
I just realized you can actually see the knocked "rally enthusiasts" in the next scene
Miss these guys
"This went so badly that is not suitable for family viewing".....LOL..
damn im getting the subaru impreza this weekend, see him shit on it breaks my heart
Used to like the subaru until I saw the evo
Same Here.. LOL, in high school i was in love with the STi, then everything changed when i saw the Evo VIII =P
You guys need Jesus STI ALL DAY
Luis Ruiz we need Jesus to bring back evo ;)
What does ESBKS stand for
Luis Ruiz Eat Shit Bitches K?
One of my favorite segments, especially with the manakins blank expressions!
Pardon as I have no idea how to spell mannequin. Lol
This is my favorite top gear moment. For some reason, every time he mentions the mannequins and shows their faces, it makes me laugh uncontrollably.
I love evos but if it's so good y is it getting canceled
this is one of evo's best vs subaru's absolute worst version STi. and really it is a myth that these engines are unreliable or they are hard to work on.
Roboclick, while the points you make are all valid, many prefer the Scooby. It all comes down to who you talk to ;)
Ender Lord Of course. Both of these cars are great, it mainly comes down to personal preference. A three second difference around the track doesn't really matter that much in the real world.
I'm kinda disappointed that they're discontinuing the Evo. At least it's gone out with a bang.
But you have to admit the Japanese beat the French in rally cars!! Because the Evo and Impreza are very well made!!!
@@lightsaberlordp373 French and japan are really good at rally but the production cars from France manufacturers are not exciting. Looking forward to get either a 1993 or 2001 Impreza or an mr2 as a first car. Yes i love Japanese cars.
I love my Mitsubishi Evo X ❤️
is top gear biased towards mitsubishi or smth? why didnt they put the 300hp evo to face the sti when they already had it there?
Most of the stuff they talked about ha nothing to do with power...
They did pit them together using the Stig. The Subaru won.
Zed Runner Nope they were exactly equal.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Top_Gear_test_track_Power_Lap_Times
The Subaru won.
Zed Runner No that's the cosworth the standard subaru was exactly the same as the evo.
Is that a Mitsubishi STI and Subaru EVO????
BEST EPISODE SO FAR.
6:15 - 6:40 love this scene where the blue car is mocking the red car, endlessly 😂
