    Wow. Thanks for working on my boat! I took off the back cover to find out why the 3 screws that hold the engine drive were completely loose. Noticed it by accident trying to find oil leak! Anyway, I will do this awesome repair of the cover (looks exactly the same) and I thank you for posting this. Found the oil leak after gruesome search with borescope. Have to take it in and remove motor to fix oil pan seal.😡😥

    Capt,n.. thanks for a detailed video. We just purchased a 2015 242 LS and took it out for the first time. After putting the boat back on the trailer. I pulled the drain and water ran for about 60-90 seconds. The water wasn't warm. I found my bilge pump wasn't kicking on on auto. Fixed that with simply cleaning the area (amazing what you find). Hopefully your video has the solution. We live in Georgia so the season is longer and hopefully I can find out where the water is coming from by process of elimination. Thanks again for sharing.

      I would need to know where the water is entering from, I just couldn't rest until I figured it out. You can pull that access panel while the boat is in the water and give it a hard look. Good luck!

    Nice video. One addition you could have added to help manage water in that tray would be to add a check valve on the drain hose. That way when you come off plane and the water rushed back through the tubing it can’t enter to the wet storage tray from that direction but it would still allow for water to pass from the top of the tray down through the exit fitting.

    Did you do a water test on the rubber gasket? Fill the tray deck with water and see if it holds fully submerged? I’m Thinking of doing this to mine as water gets past my plug and leaks into my bilge occasionally.

    I like the wood idea. I moved all my holes a half inch over and put silicone in the empty holes. Worked well

  • @madmaxd1
    @madmaxd1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good job but knowing how humid that area is, I would have used synthetic decking instead if you still prefer the extra thick bite on the screws.
    Another option is taping the bottom side of the screw holes and fill with epoxy. Let dry and drill new pilot holes for the screws..

    Another choice could have been pressure treated wood for the frame...just sayin!

    Great videos on Yamaha jet boats captain Leon, have a question especially on Yamaha jet boats can u leave them in a fresh water lake for a summer season say may to sept without having to trailer them out everyday I know this is a great debate and it’s not recommended but no one has any real answers only vague opinions. Thanks for the content.

    • @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
      @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Elvis. So the issue with wet-slipping these boats for extended periods of time is growth begins to develop under the boat. While it is fresh water, and better than salt water, growth still develops. This growth will impact the smooth flow of water into the intake grate and into the jet pump. I would experiment by leaving it in for short periods of time and then pull it out after a few days or a week and inspect. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching.

    Very helpful and great video. Im thinking to do this to my 2018 ar 195. Thinking of using AZEK material instead of oak. How this rubber seal holds for you ? Im also boating at salt water so just wondering about rubber seal strip performance ( Barnegat Bay NJ). THX for video

    • @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
      @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello, I'm sure any solid material would work as well. I'm not familiar with AZEK, but I'm sure it's fine. The weatherstripping seal has held up just fine, seems to be keeping the water out. Glad the video has helped.

    As always, fantastic informative video Captain Leon! I do have a question if I may. I have a 2022 SX195, and have noticed lately that my bilge pump kicks in when I slow down as I come to a stop and pumps water for 5-6 seconds (my second season with this boat, didn't notice this the first year). I don't think it's from water coming over the swim platform. You certainly mentioned a few components to pay attention to in this video, but from your experience with these boats, wondering if you have any ideas where this water intrusion could be happening? Thank you so much.

    • @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
      @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Medhi. When you come to a stop, any water in the rear most bilge area rushes forward through channels into the engine compartment area and the bilge will be able to pump it out then. It does sound like water is getting in the boat which is normal if it's minimal. When you pull the drain plugs at the end of the day does water come out? Try parking on an incline with the bow up and get it all to drain out. You can even use a shop vac through the hatch cover if needed. Get it good and dry and take it out and observe with a flash light looking through the hatch covers for anything obvious. You may need to re-silicone some areas.

    • @mehdikabbage278
      @mehdikabbage278 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore Thank you so much, this is helpful! A very small amount of water comes out from the drain plugs at end of the day if at all, which contributed to my confusion.

    Hi Captain,
    I finally went into the Bilge area to check a leak I was having because of your video. I noticed this weekend I had some water leaking through the bottom left hand corner of the engine compartment hatch into the deck area. The leak happens when I slow down from speeds of 15mph and higher.
    The engine compartment, bilge area and fuel compartment area are all bone dry.
    I did notice the insulation lining the top of the engine hatch was quite damp and had a slow drip when the hatch was in the up position.
    Any thoughts or recommendations to look for?
    Thanks again.
    Jeff

    • @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
      @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jeff, not really understanding. You describe a leak onto the deck area when you slow down? Ive seen water slush around in the engine compartment when slowing down fast, but nothing comes up into the deck area.

    • @jeffpelton1696
      @jeffpelton1696 ปีที่แล้ว

      Captain,
      Thank you for the response. I know it’s hard to explain. I don’t have any water in the engine compartment. It’s almost like it rushes down the outside groove/ channel of the engine hatch and onto the deck floor. I posted a 9 second short to my page.
      It’s the only video I ever posted so it should be easy to find if you wouldn’t mind taking a look.
      Appreciate all the help.
      Best,
      Jeff

      Jay, I love my black hull. It does show scratches more than a white hull would but I have kept it in great shape and the reflection on the hull is like a mirror. We really enjoy it. Does not attract heat or sun at all that we could tell, the interior is white so all good.
