    This is one of the BEST instructional videos on impeller replacement! I especially liked the manual diagrams to verify the sealants and torque pounds info. And the cereal bowl at the end was funny. Thanks for your time to put this vid together. Now I need a (2007 fx cruiser) vid on unsticking my reverse or replacing it. Thanks Captain.

      @@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore it went fine. This video helped a lot. My impeller housing assembly looked fine and I didn’t need to replace it. My only concern is I am starting to wonder if I did not put enough of the gasket on there when I put it all back together . What would be some symptoms if I did not get a good seal?

      @@taylorhamon8889 I did not see any sealant when I took mine apart. Not sure what they do at the factory, and I'm not sure exactly what the sealant does in this application. Water is not going to escape through the sections that are bolted together. You will be fine.

      No significant damage, started to see a slight burn mark on it. If it's compromised due to rubbing or sucking up rocks and debris it needs to be replaced. That requires a vice, large wrenches, a special adaptor and brute strength. Its installed with 200ft. lbs of torque I believe. Glad I avoided that.

    My 2017 AR195 SVHO suffers from cavitation mostly when pulling a tube/wakeboard. Does that mean there must be something wrong with my impeller? Everything I’ve read about the SVHO engines explains it should haul a wakeboard and 3 person tube no problem. I’m not over the max weight or even close. The boat vibrates pretty bad when pulling and trying to get on plane.

    • @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
      @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well you certainly need to inspect your impeller and housing for signs of damage to the blades or some foreign object blocking the flow of clean water into the jet pump. Before taking anything apart, crawl under the boat with a good flashlight and look at the leading edge of the impeller through the intake grate. You can even have someone crank the engine with the lanyard pulled so the engine will turn but not start. Next would be to pull the clean out plug and run your hand around the impeller to feel for anything. Does it perform well when not pulling a tube?

      Hey Jeff. For me the problem was getting the little guides out of the old housing. Not sure why they would be stiff going into the new. They only go in halfway obviously as the other half fits into the housing remaining on the boat. Try a little emory cloth and grease perhaps and tap it with a light hammer and block of wood. Good luck.

    Great video I have a single jet with a Articulating Keel and you have to remove a lock ring and put it back on to remove the keel to get to the screw going through the lateral thruster and its a pain. I may try removing the two lower bolts as you did. Also since you showed in the manual to seal the parts that answered that question. Some people said you dont need too others said you do. Shop manual wins. Food slicer looks handy. To bad you didnt show how to replace impeller on shaft. Did you use sealant on the cone??

    Great video and so helpful.
    I might be doing the same with my boat. Can I run it for a short period of time without the impeler in place? The intend is to see if the funny noise comes from the motor or the jet pump.

    • @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
      @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore  ปีที่แล้ว

      Andreu, thanks for the compliment. You have a great question there. I'm not a certified mechanic, just a local guy who tries to learn. That being said, I think you can run it just fine without the jet pump installed. The intermediate bearing will be spinning without the shaft installed into its back end, water is still flowing through the engine and keeping things cool. Just be mindful that to reinstall the jet pump you might have to rotate the shaft so that the spline will line up to re-insert it fully. Check around with some others on the forums and facebook pages, someone must have done it already. Good luck and report back.

    @forrestshaw1890 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I've watched your vid a few times now. concise and humorous. Questions for you if you'll indulge me...Did you have any bearing issues that might have the impeller spinning out of round and causing the wear in the first place? Or was it simply the swollen ring? How did you determine it from the boat, my starboard engine has started to shudder/vibrate under acceleration and underway, but idles smoothly? And Yamaha's service manual indicates there is a different port and starboard impeller?? Is that not the case? Are they identical? And lastly Why didn't you change out the impeller too while you had it apart? I'd worry myself, about future damage and issues of aviation. Can't see that you even filed the wear off of the old impeller?? again cavitation?? Kinda wouldn't want a dull knife spinning at those kind of RPM's

    • @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
      @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Forrest thanks for watching. I don't have any bearing issues that I know of. When I manually rotated the bearings on the shaft its seemed smooth and tight. I do understand that the port and starboard impellers differ to compensate for torque, or so they say. My impeller was fine and within specs. Boat is fast as ever, all good. Thanks!

    • @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore

      I am 100% stock. No mods unless you consider Amsoil Synthetic Marine oil a mod. My top speed varies by outside temperature, wind, current, boat weight, etc. The Yamaha speedometer is off by 2-3 mph as compared to GPS measurements. That being said, I routinely exceed 40 mph when the water is calm enough. Highest Yamaha speedo reading hit has been 49mph. Being at sea level helps as well.

      Have you put new sparks plugs in it lately? You will loose some RPM's as the plugs start to wear down and ultimately loose some speed. Also make sure you have the correct plugs and they are gapped correctly.

    We have a 2010 242 limited and I feel like one or both are doing this, easy enough to isolate. My question is, what should I look at for a loss in power/speed? It seems getting to plane takes more RPM then it used to almost like something is slipping but we all know there is no tranny!

    • @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
      @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well with no tranny...lol, the engine RPM is directly tied to impeller RPM. Assuming you are reaching necessary high RPM, then that just leaves a reduction in the force of the water flow the impeller is creating. This could be caused by damage to the impeller in size or shape, or some other source of disrupting the clean flow of water causing air to mix with water (cavitation). Just some basic thoughts.

    Starboard engine will run strong for 45 minutes then only do about 4700 rpms and no more. There are 3 lights on dash and the one in the middle comes on. I don’t understand the little diagram that is on the light and having a hard time finding what the 3 different lights mean.(can use help here as well)
    After the engine has rested for 5-10 minutes the engine will be fine for another 45 minutes. Once I turned the blower on and it stayed down less time.

      Rubayet, I'm not a certified mechanic. That being said it sounds like the computer is reducing maximum RPM to protect the engine due to overheating or some other issue. I would start with reading your owners manual to learn what the dashboard lights represent. Thereafter you should bring it in to be looked at by a professional. Wish I could be of more help.

    • @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
      @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Kenny, I want to answer your question, but I'm not clear on which part you're referring to. The nozzle is the part that serves two functions and is mounted at the end of the pump. It funnels the water flow into a tighter space for added propulsion. This is called the Venturi effect. Secondly, it swivels left to right to direct the water flow for turning capability. Hope that helps.

    • @BuyBuildThrash

      @@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore lol it didn't. The nozzle I have always seen as a cone. This has another open on the bottom of the nozzle.... so it's not just a cone shape nozzle it's a cone with another slot on the bottom.

    Could this cause one motor/impeller to be slower than the other?
    My starboard motor/jet seems to not have as much power as the port side and causes the boat to pull to the right at when at the same RPM. I can balance the pull by backing off the port motor by 10-20%. I have perfectly squared the rudder and nozzles.

    • @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
      @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question, not sure. Listen for a difference in sound between the engines when on the garden hose. If the impeller housing is swollen it will be noisy. But if turning the same RPM I'm not sure that is the problem.
