- The 600cc supersport class is one of the most fiercely contested, with bikes such as the Honda CBR600RR and Triumph Daytona 675.
The supersport shootout at Calafat had one aim - to find out which bike was best on track.

So sick of idiots saying the 675 is "cheating".
Supersports regs permit 600cc 4cyl, 675cc 3cyl, and 750cc 2cyl in that class. If you forget the cc's for a second, all these engines will weigh about the same, output similar power, have about the same "breathing" with the valve surface area. The more cylinders you have, the higher you can rev, the higher the compression ratio's because the cylinders are smaller, and the more valve surface area you have across your total capacity.
These engine sizes are equivalent and fair, and these rules have existed for a very long time, before Triumph bought out their 675. There were 675 triples a long time ago.
"The more cylinders you have the higher you can rev?" Thats a new one.
@@williamkenny6383 Not really, as a rule it stands in most applications. Pretty obvious when you think about it.
If they were using professional riders, why did they use a 600RR with ABS?
You could at least get a 10 dolar camera
Cant beat Honda reliability. My Aprilia didnt last longer than my current cbr.
2009 potato camera =O
The new ZX6R Ninja is the fastest among the big 4.
They used the abs version of the CBR in a track test? lol
no wander they used a cbr with ABS in this shootout, that's not fair!
@DeffyDude Wrong the cbr does have what it takes just look at the world supersport results not superstock! They also won in 2007 and in 2008 and barely lost out in 2009. Further making wrong is the fact that Honda won every single race in 2010 except one the entire season. Honda dominates the European grid in the modified supersport class. They easily out number every other manufacture for good reason. 2009+ CBRs have very restricted ECUs thats why the 07-08 are considered the fastest.
I dont think the 675 cheats bro..yeah it has an extra 75cc but it also gives up a cylinder. Which means they gave up top end for mid range. I think its a smarter bike, it would come last in a straight line 2 mile race, but seriously even the crazy guys that hit 160+ mph dont do it that often and when they do its for a short amount of time on track or off. For the rest of us, its just the smarter more practical choice because it excels in every aspect of ordinary rode and track riding.
You do know there is a non ABS CBR available? What a pointless test!
My first bike was a 1991 CBR 600 F2 that I bought two years ago. It was an excellant bike for learning, enough power that I didn't crave anything bigger (a 250 will leave you wanting so much more), and as long as you're careful, it's not too much of a bike to handle. I just upgraded to an 01 CBR F4i (600), and I've realized 600 is more than enough engine for 90% of riders out there on the street.
is it me orrr are they favoring the british bike a lil bit because their british?
I love me some Yamaha R6.. what a beast.
Made in Japan is the best
Setting the Bike to your "Weight" means only adjusting spring pre-load, which would imply that they're not allowed to adjust the Compression, Rebound, High and low speed settings on the suspension. A car is setup to handle a wide range of drivers and driving conditions, just like the bike is setup from the factory for the most common application, street use. most of the people that buy a Super-Sport Bike never see the track and never touch the suspension settings in fear of screwing something up
I'd like to see the Triumph against a 2005 Kawasaki 636
Daytona 675 is faster and nicer!!
675 be alright for a first bike?
Get a 636 instead, way better 675 is not an easy bike to ride!
I don't know where you live, but in America...the Daytona is just as expensive as the other bikes. Kawi: 9,799 Daytona: 9,799 Honda: 9,799 Yamaha: 9,799.
And when the road tests come out....the Daytona will not will not win cause its quite uncomfortable. I own an 08 Daytona, and from what I hear they used the same suspension (which sucks). The seat is a lil high, and its probably the most aggressive posture of all 600s. I say Honda or Kawi will win the road test.
@m3g1 it helps you be a track rider. if you can master the r6, you can ride any 600cc
you dont want any electronics to help you ride(no offense to cbr fans) and that is why you buy a r6
but i still like my gsxr though :)
All these bikes are A#1!Ride what you like! It's all about rider skill. The fastest dude at deals Gap Tail of the Dragon rides a 600.I ride a 1000 trust me any of these 600s will chew up and spit out a dude on a 1000 on a tight road with proper skill!Just try to ride safe bros!
cbr is just such a nice road bike. u can ride it everyday.if u not there to compete at the track, and just want to have fun at the track, i dont see why honda is not the best choice.
@DeffyDude what do you mean? Hondas are winning in MotoGP and are top-notch bikes in Supersport(600cc)
Anyway i think a true rider likes every bike, not saying you're not ;)
@diurnorj i beg to differ ...ive owned about every type of bike out there and for handling and comfort..Not to mention speed...My vote would go for the new gsxr ....
So now all of a sudden a Triumph 675 is a 600? If a ZX6R (when it was 636) can't compete in a 600cc class the 675 certainly can't either
MCM the kawa haters
um what?
Yamaha R1 came in second to last in the superbike shootout. It only beat the Ducatti. 4 bikes beat it.
It's ok, I was debating on the all black. Just cause I like black. My gear is blue and white from my 2000 600 SRAD
TRIUMPH and CBR are the best
Daytona was a 675 no shit.
And why use the ABS CBR when you know it will run slow with pro riders.
Unless you're a professional racer this review has no bearings for the average rider.... now, if you're planning to buy a bike to race with, this review could help but not really, unless you have actually raced all these bikes before you bought them and figured out which one suits your racing style.... and besides, when you race these bikes they won't be standard... with many upgrades you can't really say which is actually better !!!
@MboroMarksman4 There is no point in trying to defend yourself, the 600 as a first bike argument is an age old one that has split the biking community. The bike is only going to do what the rider makes it do, if you have a decent head on your shoulders and you will take it easy then go for it, however why would you buy a 600 to take it easy is beyond me. If you HAVE to have a 600 then look into other options like suzuki Katanas and SV650(a track weapon with a few mods), they are plenty powerful
how does the triumph go faster without a slipper clutch? With professional riders you would think that would make a difference? Shouldent they mention that If your gonna be at the track on any kind of budget your gonna want a slipper clutch standard..a couple grand extra for something the other bikes already have? That money could be spent on an exhaust/ecu/quickshifter and then the other bikes will be faster...mayb im missing something here?
why the fuck did they use a abs cbr fuckers? and about the daytona 6.....7......5... thats fucking 75cc more than all other bikes so it shouldn't even be here. I am actually surprised they didnt included a gxsr 750 to really fuck things up or a ducaty 884. Shit a 600cc class is just that 600cc. In the daytona they have to compensate with 75cc just to make up for the lack of technology in the motor what a shame! overall this review is all fuck all they way up!! but i like it .....not!
Buy the bike you like as most people can't ride good enough(although they think they can) to exploit the differences in the ability of these bikes on the track and you can't ride hard enough on the street to see the diffrence in performance based on the bike. if you are the better rider you will be faster then the other person so you may as well buy the brand that you like the best.
why would you use the abs version of the cbr on this test? i dont think anyone who is using their bike on track day is going to opt to buy the abs version. it wasn't meant for the track but for real world situations like when someone pulls out in front of you. its just unnecessary weight in a track setting
@skyline44512 come on mate, surely you know that the 675 if a 3 cylinder bike and the 600's are 4 cylinder, thats why its allowed a higher capacity, just as a 2 cylinder bike can be 750cc and compare and compete in World Super Sport with the 4 cylinder 600's! And if you didnt know that, well now you have been educated. And @duckgeezer; same comment to you.
@0o0thatguy0o0 ya dont listen to that dude.. I ride a cbr6RR and Id say go for a cbr or gixxer.. gixxer seats are plush and the power is good plus they have pretty good compartment space which after awhile will come of SOME use to you whether you think it out before or not.. It won't take long for you to appreciate a good gel seat tho..
And then at the end of the video he says he's surprised that the 600RR with ABS was slowest, I mean Mulletman, what the fuck are you thinking? Of course a bike with ABS is gonna be slower. MCN are just Yamahalovers nothing more, if they'd tested the non-ABS 600RR it would've destroyed all the other bikes, including the Yamaha.
think the r6 is pretty? compare all of them to the ducati 848. and u get.... triumph, zx6r, cbr600rr, r6, gsxr600. i seriously wonder why so many gixxers on the road? ITS UGLY! then when i ask the kawi-yami dealer what do u sell Most? he says kawis and he knows his stuff.
the r6 is a great bike, buuut its almost always near the bottom of the shootouts.
Because its twitchy. And on the road that does not make for a confident bike.
They focus more on it being a track bike than they do a road bike, where it will spend 99% of its time for most people.
;)
Basically... if you can get away with having an extra 75cc's, why not? Do whatever you gotta do to win on the track... But as far as riding for fun, get whatever you think looks the best and is the most comfortable... because nobody can ride a 600 to potential anyway.
if you havent rode a road bike before, a 250 would be better to start with. sell it in a year and get some of your money back for a bigger bike. any bigger bike can get away from you fast, then you just threw away a bunch of money to fix.
to skyline44512. 636 is still a 4cylinder. 675 is 3 cylinder, learn a little about how engines work before making dumbarse comments, look at superbkie racing in the late 1990's. 750 4cyl against 2cyl 1000's ????
If "it's all track only" then why are you going to all that trouble with dyno pulls and weighing etc.?
If it's track only then be on with it and give us the lap times. Coulda been a 90 second video, jeez.
Press F5 and it skips the shitty advertisement at the start-I hope everyone learns this because this unwanted advertising eats into your download limit so in effect you are paying to lose 15-30 seconds of your life
@Danemontgomery true, I am in NZ as well. I have just bought a Triumph Daytona 675 SE 2010. Very pleased with it, is annoying I have to pay more to register it. But becuase it is so damn sexy I dont mind
lol, no no no no no
he dosent rate it, that was the FACT. it IS the FASTEST out of all these 600s
sorry m8 but you cant argue with the fact, also you need alot more than a gd bike to win races
slightly true, but if there wasnt anybody having these 600cc shootouts then wouldnt we be left asking for someone to do it? even if there close we still need to know some proffesional opinions
Mcn video quality is crap.
all the 600cc bikes are so close, this is more of a test of who is the better rider...
I'm glad to hear the Triumph won your challenge. It makes me feel very proud of my bike. = ]
what a load of old bollocks. Not even 1.5 seconds between the Triumph (best) and the CBR (worst) unless your names Rossi I doubt you'd notice any difference. i'll be sticking with my ZX6R.
no body except big companies give a shit about your degree cuz in the end the real smart people are the ones with field experience not some test scores that mean nothing
@gsxrpik or that triumph was murdering other bikes...its like saying people favor the BMW s1000RR because they are white and not asian...it just happen to win. QQ a bit moar.
@xxcrimxx o yea, the guy on MTV that has the short hair right!! yea hes a guy of average height and he looks like this guy??
Yea, I dont know who you talking about... :)
basically made an awesome cbr600rr 2007 model then slowly crapped it up imo, took the power out of it by adding more midrange, and abs to make it heavier.
@Michalgsxr Your are wrong! At 0.40 you pan the camera across a nice looking Ducati. There just is something about those Ducati's. But the triumph is nice to!
They got a model with abs >_
doesn't the triumph have a 675 cc engine? making this review a bit unfair. of course the triumph will have more oomph, it's got more displacement.
I like the 09 Blue and White GSXR.. Probably casue I own the identical bike !!!!
@MboroMarksman4 That said i do agree that one can grow out of a 250 in no time, but an sv650 or a katana aren't bike you will grow out of quick.
@polskakrew07 my thoughts exactly the same. surely honda would have at the least beat out suzuki. more weight + ABS on the track w/pros= DUMB.
And the extra weight also affects the performance... and on the track you don't want extra weight in form of a electronic driver-aid, now do you?
Lol, what a surprise a British rag rates the British bike as the best. It loses every race it ever enters but they say its the best on the track.
ya the 675 win couse it is a cheating P.O.S. If it actually made a 600 it would get slaughtered. Race it vs the gsxr 750 and see what will happen
@300zx93nismo1 unless you can buy 2t bikes in your area there isn't anything that will satisfy your itch.... try a ninja 500 or ninja 650
I mean the drivers on this video ARE pro, but the none of the real world drivers on usual track day are like you and me, NOT pro.
3 cylinders so theyre allowed more cc...just like Ducati can run more cc's in the 1000 class. you just have no clue do you?
im not the best track rider ,, but it looks like there not even pushing the bike's to there full potentia.l
i love the triumph but i think they sound soo funny outta the factory stock, reminds me of a space ship :D
@m3g1 I know the Suzuki gsxr600 is 08-09, im sure the rest of the bikes are the same.
Why the fuck would they test the ABS honda, take off the ABS and redo the test.
why do the bikes keep only one light on?????????? I always wondered why!!!
Why the hell did they test a CBR with ABS on the track? That's just stupid.
...what? I haven't really read anything of the Yamaha winning lol
it was second to last in a superbike shootout a read, and i know the zx6r beat it in a supersport shootout
because they tested the original bike, so the cbr is shit xD.
W kawasaki
I totally agree....at 1:56 it's the 2009 R1, WTF??
anyone know what kind of helmet the blue and red one on the zx6r is??
So if you all would do your next test like this and then go one step further. Put on a pipe and power commander on each bike and retest and/or send each bike for suspension tooling with same rider and retest for lap times. See how that changes things. Would super interesting and fun.
I believe here in the U.S. we call it a mullet. Still out of style.
i like the cbr, zx6r, and the gsxr. i dont care for the yamaha!
what is faster 2010 zx6r or 2009 zx6r? someone please tell me
@robert18007 they don't have a choice in EU
@shiftsamm get a vfr 400 nc30 or rvf 400 nc35! i have owned everything from a 50cc to R1 and have owned 4 vfr's they are great fun, knee down on every round about and you will leave all bikes no matter how big on the twisties! they are bullet proof too! cheap and loads of fun. the vfr's are quicker than the rvf's but it's up to you
i think you can depending if it is restricted and at 30 bhp
i dont think they where riding the bikes to there fullest
Love the R1 and the CBR1000RR in the film...
I wasn't talking about MCN. I was talking about the other sites that actually have long in depth reviews of the bikes and their scores.
The R1 has some of the most 'emotion' since the engine is really loud, but on a performance point of view, isn't nearly as good as any of the others.
Who told you to watch the whole thing, or even at all?
lol no shit the 650 had it put the gsxr 750 out there
yamaha r6 ftw sexy muthtrucking bike!!
the question is..look at 1:56. R1? 600cc group test?
of course, the triumph always wins in mcn videos :|
The honda is for the girls.
yamaha r6 is the best!
No I was born before men and I will die after them
CBR:s are a good bunch of bikes, no doubt in that. They ARE fast. However in the tracks where people drive class A,B,C, the this result here what the video proves does not matter. NONE of the drivers are pro. On bikes the skill level makes a big difference on how well you can drive a bike. All of these bikes are great, and given to average driver any of them can be the winner.
with good riders yer right
Hahahahahaha, Kawasaki better than Suzuki? NEVER!
