As for me, I didn't watch any spoilers or trailers to Spider-Man: No way home. And when I went to watch the film, my first impressions were pure and unexpected. Ultrakill was my first taste of the movement fps/style fighter genre. I expected not to fit in, to be unable to learn it and become accustomed to the speed. Then I met V2. Everything before him was the tutorial, and he was the test. He kicked my ass, again and again, pushing me to get faster, more aggressive, more accurate, more violent, until I finally matched him. Ever since that moment I've kept improving, learning, incorporating new techs into my playstyle bit by bit. The skill ceiling is limitless and it only gets more fun and rewarding the more you learn. The only problem is that it lessens the experience of other games in the genre, as after ultrakill, the others just tend to feel.... *W E A K* Ultrakill also sparked an intense craving for challenge in me
V2 really is the ultimate milestone for new players. I remember watching my cousin play on my pc from time to time, but he went from not able to aim to being good at the game just by the v2 fight
Ultrakill is my favorite fps and one of my favorite games of all time for the single reason that its a game that may seem hardcore, but in reality is very easy to start playing in a way that is fun to YOU. You are the one in full control of your options in combat and how you can use it in each situation that the game becomes a way to see just how much can you combo weapons together, how fast can you move and how much can you exterminate entire levels in minutes and even SECONDS. I blame myself for it now, as I explicitly told people a lot of the things when discussing the game. So I really liked your approach! I think it singlehandedly makes this review one of the most important ones for me. Also, yes, the music is awesome! Maybe you also should've mentioned that Hakita is musician by nature. The way I look at it, although this game is clearly an important part of his life as well as career, the development of it is only a part of who he is. And it's damn cool. Thank you!

0:45 - 1:04 I half agree, half disagree. Doom 2016 is pretty bare bones with movement, yes. However doom eternal's movement is really deep and beats quake in terms of fluidity and complexity imo. There's tech for everything movment based. Things like wall dashes to grant a speed boost, bunny hopping for momentum keeping, chaining ballista boosts to reach ridiculous speeds, and of course, who can forget the legendary meathook. A wild grappling hook that can be manipulated to launch the slayer at insane speeds and great heights. And this is just the surface. You can combo movement techniques in with each other just like in quake, but it gets even crazier. Things such as doing a meathook jump to gain vertical distance, then ballista boosting twice downward by dead swapping to gain even more height, and then bunny hopping as you hit the ground to carry out your momentum. It's wild. The advanced mobility in 2016 was really just gauss boosting (basically ballista boosting) and slower bunny hopping, so i totally get you on quake being deeper than that game. Eternal on the other hand goes above and beyond with movement though. If you read this far, thanks for reading ❤️. This wasn't an angry retaliation, but rather me trying to emphasize how incredible doom eternal's movment system is. Anyways, I digress. Phenomenal ULTRAKILL review and analysis man, really excellent work.
Thanks for the in-depth explanation of Eternal's movement system, I hope lots of people read it! I wish I could find a way to elaborate a bit more in the video about Eternal specifically, but I felt like it dragged on the intro way too long, so I re-wrote it a few times and landed on using the words 'Quake is still king' to finish out the segment. I know that not many players went too deep on Quake Champions, but that game has different movement systems on different characters, which is why I felt comfortable just ending it with the line that I used in the vid. For example you have Anarki/Sorlag with the Quake World style of movement, Visor who has no quirks but no speed cap, Athena who has the standard quake movement - but with grappling hook, Slash with the Quake 4 movement and so on. But I am completely okay with saying that it's subjective which one you like more and that there is no wrong answer there!
Ultrakill scratched that itch of having a crazy movement shooter and it got to the point where I wanted to be top 100 in cybergrind on Violent difficulty and I did. I managed to hit #75 exactly and it was amazing. Definitely got pushed back a lot but I can happily say I was at one point.
The best description of ULTRAKILL I've ever heard is it's a movement shooter whose development cycle consisted of the dev getting an idea, thinking it would be cool, adding it to the game, and being right about it being cool every time.

This game is not only the genuine pipe dream of *WHAT IF?* (then comes true), but has a really intriguing lore, really fucked up and wicked backstories to characters, beyond absurdity for Secrets/Secret Missions.,.,. *FUCK THIS SHIT GOES SO DEEP NO WONDER THIS SHIT TAKES SO LONG AAAA*
I'm not cut for the demanding speed and movement ULTRAKILL asks of me but fr, no shooter has the level of skill expression and sheer adrenaline this game has. Its a masterpiece in my book
It might feel lame, but you can always play the easier difficulties! But... yea, I do feel like (at least atm) a lot of fun of the game comes from pushing your own limits and if that's not your style, that's fair.
in most fps games u have to think fast and plan some actions to do but in ultrakill u just do whatever comes to ur brain and that somehow works, this makes the *gameplay* fun to everyone in different kind of skills But gameplay aside, In some games like pizza tower and ultrakill, the game is well made to bring joy but the REAL experience comes to perfecting the levels which is not something everyone can do so i'd call these games a 10/10 experience BUT for the right person

Ultrakill is a game where you do cool shit accidentally and the accidentles are always the coolest I once tossed a few coins in the air tossed them and hit two street cleaners tank and an enemy charging a projectile so it went Ding ding ding boom

8:43 along with the build up there is a constant intensity build up because of what i believe to be shepard tones which is a sound that sounds as if the pitch is constantly going up to reach a climax that doesnt happen as its masking the loop of the sounds increase with a decreasing sound

Ultrakill is a good game, if it doesn't fit your style of gameplay you don't have to force yourself to play it. It's also my first fast-paced fps. People shouldn't really judge a game based on surface gameplay, Ultrakill has so MANY hidden mechanics such rail-coining, and the chargeback, which is really hard to find without outside sources.

ultrakill is drugs and i love it like check this shit out a can shot a core then do a power slam making the enemies fly and shoot the red railgun AT the core and create a nuke go BOOOM like that felt so satisfying
Great video. I appreciate that you don't want to ruin first time player's experience by describing certain aspects because I went into this game blind, and now I have seen the light. It's every bit as good as the hype would suggest... best early access purchase you can make (if you are an FPS or fighting/action game fan).
I was very scared of this game. And I mean literally terrified. Due to a psychotic episode I experienced, the world of Ultrakill was extremely disturbing to me. My experience hasn’t only been enjoyable, it’s been *cathartic* . The only thing I now wish is that I was brave enough to go into it blind. I watched a lot of footage before installing it so I could make sure I wouldn’t regret the purchase. Unfortunately, there’s too much magic in this game for you to spoil it. I envy those who go into this game blind. If you are reading this, stop watching TH-cam videos on the game (except this one ;) and just start your descent into hell. Turn off the lights, make sure it’s 3am, and lock in.
I love games made my clinically insane developers, been a big fan of Ultrakill for about 6 months or so, and I've played it almost every day since Also W game recommendations, I nearly 100%d Celeste, all except the golden strawberries, and it was great. I've yet to play Sekiro, since I wanna play it on my pc but my pc sucks, but I love literally every soulsborne game I've played so far (BB, ER, DS3) so I know I'll love it.
As someone who experienced Sekiro, I'd like to point out one thing: you'll love it if you played fromsoft games with parry, because Sekiro is basically "Parry: The Game". If you didn't then I guess it'll take some time to get accustomed to it being the main mechanic
I tried honing the recommendations to be the same vibe of the game, but not the same genre, so glad that you understand what I mean with Celeste! Imo Sekiro is THE fromsoft game that evokes that feeling of mastery once it clicks. Once you know what you are doing, you feel like a lawnmower of death, it's an absolutely amazing feeling, you'll love it! Also plays like heaven on keyboard/mouse.
The thing that makes ultrakill stand above practically every game released now is the fact that the developers care about and love the game and its community which is shown by how good the game is as a whole I swear the only reason it hasnt got a 100% like rate on steam is the fact there is no robot sex (truly a disappointment)
Haven't watched the vid yet, but as someone who's ultra kill is still the favorite game of all times, I can confidently say that ultrakill is too good to be real. If you don't like ultrakill, then you are just not ready and that's understandable

I am normally not a 100% player and normally only play through games once. I have played through ULTRAKILL so many times. This game is 100% worth 20 bucks
For those who are very cautious about there money I recommend at least playing the demo yes some 5hings are different compared to the game itself but I do think the demo is great for a play test
The game is great, my only critique of it is that there are some levels which feel like claustrophobic enemy spam which is apparent towards the later levels of act 2. Otherwise its insanely good for an early access indie game.
Not gonna lie, the homo-coomer community is what I dislike about the game the most. I cringe at everything I see, and the fact that New Blood is supporting this bullshit makes me want to get my money back. Aside from that, ULTRAKILL is a great videogame.
Yeah, I should've done a better job warning ahead of time. I thought that it would be fine considering it's just the intro to the level and most of the level + boss fight is not shown, but considering a few people found it too much it was a mistake on my end. Will do better next time.

I wish I could find a way to elaborate a bit more in the video about Eternal specifically, but I felt like it dragged on the intro way too long, so I re-wrote it a few times and landed on using the words 'Quake is still king' to finish out the segment.
I know that not many players went too deep on Quake Champions, but that game has different movement systems on different characters, which is why I felt comfortable just ending it with the line that I used in the vid. For example you have Anarki/Sorlag with the Quake World style of movement, Visor who has no quirks but no speed cap, Athena who has the standard quake movement - but with grappling hook, Slash with the Quake 4 movement and so on.
But I am completely okay with saying that it's subjective which one you like more and that there is no wrong answer there!
Ultrakill scratched that itch of having a crazy movement shooter and it got to the point where I wanted to be top 100 in cybergrind on Violent difficulty and I did. I managed to hit #75 exactly and it was amazing. Definitely got pushed back a lot but I can happily say I was at one point.

The best description of ULTRAKILL I've ever heard is it's a movement shooter whose development cycle consisted of the dev getting an idea, thinking it would be cool, adding it to the game, and being right about it being cool every time.

I really really wanted to go more into aesthetics and music, but I didn't want to spoil the amazing later areas. Hakita got so, so good at making every level a delight later on, I just didn't wanna take away those 'wow' moments in case someone decides to buy the game from this review.

I'm not cut for the demanding speed and movement ULTRAKILL asks of me but fr, no shooter has the level of skill expression and sheer adrenaline this game has. Its a masterpiece in my book
It might feel lame, but you can always play the easier difficulties! But... yea, I do feel like (at least atm) a lot of fun of the game comes from pushing your own limits and if that's not your style, that's fair.

in most fps games u have to think fast and plan some actions to do
but in ultrakill u just do whatever comes to ur brain and that somehow works, this makes the *gameplay* fun to everyone in different kind of skills
But gameplay aside, In some games like pizza tower and ultrakill, the game is well made to bring joy but the REAL experience comes to perfecting the levels which is not something everyone can do so i'd call these games a 10/10 experience BUT for the right person

8:43 along with the build up there is a constant intensity build up because of what i believe to be shepard tones which is a sound that sounds as if the pitch is constantly going up to reach a climax that doesnt happen as its masking the loop of the sounds increase with a decreasing sound

Ultrakill is a good game, if it doesn't fit your style of gameplay you don't have to force yourself to play it. It's also my first fast-paced fps.
People shouldn't really judge a game based on surface gameplay, Ultrakill has so MANY hidden mechanics such rail-coining, and the chargeback, which is really hard to find without outside sources.

ultrakill is drugs and i love it like check this shit out a can shot a core then do a power slam making the enemies fly and shoot the red railgun AT the core and create a nuke go BOOOM like that felt so satisfying
Great video. I appreciate that you don't want to ruin first time player's experience by describing certain aspects because I went into this game blind, and now I have seen the light. It's every bit as good as the hype would suggest... best early access purchase you can make (if you are an FPS or fighting/action game fan).

Every time I log into other FPS games after playing uktrakill I find myself trying to slide, projectile boost, and flip coins into the air lol.
I was very scared of this game. And I mean literally terrified. Due to a psychotic episode I experienced, the world of Ultrakill was extremely disturbing to me. My experience hasn’t only been enjoyable, it’s been *cathartic* . The only thing I now wish is that I was brave enough to go into it blind. I watched a lot of footage before installing it so I could make sure I wouldn’t regret the purchase. Unfortunately, there’s too much magic in this game for you to spoil it. I envy those who go into this game blind. If you are reading this, stop watching TH-cam videos on the game (except this one ;) and just start your descent into hell. Turn off the lights, make sure it’s 3am, and lock in.

I love games made my clinically insane developers, been a big fan of Ultrakill for about 6 months or so, and I've played it almost every day since
Also W game recommendations, I nearly 100%d Celeste, all except the golden strawberries, and it was great. I've yet to play Sekiro, since I wanna play it on my pc but my pc sucks, but I love literally every soulsborne game I've played so far (BB, ER, DS3) so I know I'll love it.
As someone who experienced Sekiro, I'd like to point out one thing: you'll love it if you played fromsoft games with parry, because Sekiro is basically "Parry: The Game". If you didn't then I guess it'll take some time to get accustomed to it being the main mechanic
I tried honing the recommendations to be the same vibe of the game, but not the same genre, so glad that you understand what I mean with Celeste!
Imo Sekiro is THE fromsoft game that evokes that feeling of mastery once it clicks. Once you know what you are doing, you feel like a lawnmower of death, it's an absolutely amazing feeling, you'll love it! Also plays like heaven on keyboard/mouse.

For those who are very cautious about there money I recommend at least playing the demo yes some 5hings are different compared to the game itself but I do think the demo is great for a play test

The game is great, my only critique of it is that there are some levels which feel like claustrophobic enemy spam which is apparent towards the later levels of act 2. Otherwise its insanely good for an early access indie game.

Yeah, I should've done a better job warning ahead of time. I thought that it would be fine considering it's just the intro to the level and most of the level + boss fight is not shown, but considering a few people found it too much it was a mistake on my end.
