It's so great that a fantastic golfing pro such as yourself will go into so much detail to help us struggling amateurs get better at golf. Wish more of the tour pros would do this but I don't blame them, it's a lot of work putting out these videos. Thank you Padraig I very much appreciate these.

This is getting better with more technical details to clarify many common misconceptions in swing. Learning tons of "real" knowledge from all these lessons that money can't buy. God bless, Paddy.

Love the pendulum analogy: If the pivot point (hands) of the pendulum is moving too much through impact, the weight at the bottom of the pendulum (club head) physically cannot reach its maximum speed.

Fascinating and who knows better than a tour pro???
Basically 99% of the stuff we're told to do in golf lessons is contrary to this so that's probably why people often play worse instead of improving. This video tells me that the term "lag" has ruined many golf swings over the last 15 years. 😥

Paddy you are the best. Thank you for finding the time to support your fans on their journey to better golf. Would be cool if you could share some tips on solid contact for irons, what's your thinking process when approaching such a shot e.g. do you imagine hammering a nail under certain angle, and ofc where do you exactly look - is it the center of the ball or its edges?

THIS is the best golf instruction I've seen! The drill "stop and brace at impact" totally changed my perception of the release. Practiced this on the driving range yesterday morning and the result was the most dramatic I've ever experienced in my 35 years of playing golf! Not only a huge increase in distance but also how it affected the ball flight. Instantly in a couple of swings, I started hitting high towering 4-irons with lovely distance control... From having had a total distance of around 195-200 yards with my 4-iron I now CARRIED it 220 with quick stop due to the much higher ball flight but with a much more compressed and powerful strike... Worked with all clubs from wedges through to driver. Took it straight out to the course as my only swing thought... Hey presto! Almost like a miracle! Thanks Padraig!! You've changed my golf in ONE lesson 😃

  • @dustindonley944

Best thing in this video is when he says impact pictures are "a still picture of a dynamic motion". So many people see still pictures of impact and say "look at that great forward shaft lean". They don't realize that in real time the clubhead is catching up and over taking the hands.

I’m a naturally fairly good chipper and pitcher, but I struggle to close the face during my more powerful swings with longer lower lofted clubs (woods and driver).. also seem to generate too much loft naturally. ..So I just started messing around with the stronger bowed wrist at the top of the back swing through impact, and I seemed to generate a lot more squareing up, as well as lagging and balls speed. Really felt like I was able to throw my right hand throw the motion. …..Given I’m only planning to do this on on the lower lofted clubs I should be okay?

I’m much more consistent squaring the clubface at impact if the toe is at a 45 degree angle if not slightly more closed than that when the club is parallel to the ground partially through my backswing. If the toe is pointing up I’m going to end up severely open at contact.

That was enlightening. When I started playing golf 25 years ago, this was how I used to hit my irons. Now I’m a mixture of 300 different YT lessons. Thanks for reminding me that what worked before did not need improving. Can’t wait to see you in the Masters. Would love to see you do a Michelson, and win a major at 50. Hi Padraig, first of all thank you very much for all of your videos. I love them. I am not sure if you still watch the comments of your older videos but i would like to give it a try. I watched your wrist and hands video and tried hard but i find myself at the top of the backswing with a very much cupped wrist which makes it hard for me to bow in the downswing because i am ending up more or less with a neutral clubface and not a closed one. What´s the reason generally for a cupped wrist at top of the backswing and more important how do i prevent a cupped wrist? Maybe this could also be worth a short comment in one of your next videos ;-)? Although i would love to hear a tip from you regarding my cupped wrist i am aware that you cańt answer individiual question, that´s why i just want to thank you for your already published videos again.

Well done, Paddy. Debunking all the TH-cam frauds with their shallowing the club, forward shaft lean, compression etc. Fact is, a top class player will have driver club head speed at impact of 120mph while hand speed has slowed to 18mph! Even allowing for impact slowing the head to about 70mph and the radius difference, the club head has to swing past the hands.

A key point I picked up here was, unless you are a seriously good golfer, don't faff around trying to "shallow your swing"! Thanks Paddy. Brilliant stuff. Can you please explain how the wrists deviate at the start of the downswing? The wrists radially deviate when the wrists cock, creating lag. When do you start ulnar deviation? Is there a part of the downswing when lag is allowed, or is it simply that the force in the wrist towards ulnar deviation slowly overcomes the lag due to the mass of the club?
