  • In this episode I’ll be restoring the rusty nuts, bolts and brackets on my car by Zinc Nickel plating them.
    Kits by Classic Plating:
    Zinc Nickel Plating Kit - classic-platin...
    Electrolytic Cleaning Kit - classic-platin...
    What current to use when plating?
    That should be 100ma per square inch. You need to measure/estimate the surface area of the item you are plating, eg item is 3 inches x 4 inches thats 12 square inches. Now double it so that you include the back so that's now 24 square inches. For that you will need a current of 2.4 Amps.

    I can see you taking on a full restoration in the future 😎

    Wow, not scared to put in the work mate. Will be well worth it. I've done 'similar' restoration on my e46 last year, with full underside coating and new bushes etc, but not to such detail. Hats off!

    Great video as always. Have you considered hydrogen embrittlement? The higher the tensile strength of the steel part, the more they get embrittled by the plating process. De-embrittlement is a particular oven bake process, and when I take my parts for zinc and passivate I always request de-embrittlement. Thought it worth a mention...
    Also; don’t forget that poly bushes introduce a bearing surface that is not present in metalastic bushes (the rubber just stretches) and they often squeak badly after a few miles. Stiffer metalastic bushes sometimes provide a better solution but are often hard to find in the sizes.
    Keep up the great work 👍

    I've been looking at doing the same thing with some of the rusty bolts on my CBR900RR. from what I've seen in my limited (this evenings) TH-cam experience, the process can be done much cheaper and easier using readily available products.
    I'll try them first as they'll cost a few quid and fingers crossed, they'll work. Otherwise, I'll be back here to make a shopping list 😂

    Hi there, been checking out your videos and they’re amazing, have been interested in buying a 350z for a long time, recently found an 04 with 50,000 miles for £8000, I had a look under the rear and there was some flaky rust, is there any advice you might have in regards to whether it is a worthwhile purchase? Thanks ever so much

    Great video mate! I think if you could just find consistency on your uploads (once or twice a week) and on top of these restoration and "on car working" videos add some vlogs or story videos, your channel could grow exponantially because you certianlly have potential!

    • @RoadandRacetv
      @RoadandRacetv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Dino. What do you suggest for the vlogs or story videos?

    • @dinorizvic9423
      @dinorizvic9423 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RoadandRacetv So, I would divide the story videos into two: your own experience with something related to cars, like how did you first learn how to drive a car, your experience from a crash ( if you've had one) or the time you got pulled over. The second part would be stories related to the car world, something like donut media's videos. For example you can tell stories of how certain cars influenced the UK car market or go over forgotten manufacturers and things like that. Now for the vlogs, I would suggest videos of how you get parts for your cars, like ordering, picking the parts up and kind of update the viewers on some ideas and projects you have planned. And another idea that I see a lot of people suggest is basically buy a cheap car, fix it up and sell and just go from there.
      Kind regards!
