Great looking game. A rules comparison or review would be interesting.

May well take you up on that idea, I think we need to give v and f another couple of goes (like working out how to form squares effectively (!) ) before we can do a fair comparison. Thanks for watching, cheers JP

Very strange rules! Infantry getting a bonus against cavalry when in line and no squares being used, and then cavalry charging the flank of Charlie’s conscripts for which the conscripts received no negative outcome. Bizarre. Wasn’t keen on V&F previously and even more less so now. Thanks for sharing though and nice to see you and the Boy Wonder gaming again.

Hi Nick, in part it’s probably us getting used to the rules, the massive unconstrained manoeuvrability meant not thinking about squares before being hit and we havnt spotted a reaction element to allow square forming when charged. When flanked you do loose half your combat power (and the bonus for defensive fire) so that seems to work ok. We’ll be giving it another couple of goes…..hopefully I’ll manage some squares next time 😉👍👍

Lovely game. I have been using the rules with their ACW lists, nicely presented. Thanks.

Thanks Norm, we still need to play a couple more games to get the hang of this one, it’s nice to be over quicker than GDA, but havnt really given GDA2 a try so we’ll see where we end up longer term…..but at least we’re getting a bit of gaming in again 😀😀

So infantry don't need to be in square to resist a cavalry charge? Reference Charlie's first charge. That doesn't seem right. Oh yeah, before I forget, Charlie's voice seems to be deepening. You guys just 2ant to make me old. Thanks

I really love the lineup you have there - those are all 15 mm figures, right? I’m thinking of embarking properly into Napoleonics but struggling with the size of table required if I go over 10 mm scale! Any thoughts or opinions would be gladly taken.

Hi, yep all 15mm some of them / most of them very old figures. Charlie and I are really 28mm Napoleonics players ( of which we have far too many!) but we’ve come to the US for a couple of years so the 15mm were much more transportable…..we were playing on a roughly 6 by 4 space which was more than enough for the 15mm with loads of room to move / flank etc when playing 15 to 20 battalions a side (about the sizing valour and fortitude and general d’armee rules seem to use) so I recon using those rules you could go for say a 5 by 3. For me I still love the look of Napoleonics and the uniforms and hence to desire to play 28mm but those really need 5 by 10 or more for those numbers of units. If your interested there are loads of 28mm games in the backlog. Thanks for watching and good luck with the collecting. Cheers JP

@@JP-ml4zh Thank you for the very detailed reply. With a young daughter and another kid on the way I don't really have the patience to paint 28mm nor the space to get it out so 10-15mm seems about perfect for me. Would you say this game was small/medium/large? Looks like you have 6 infantry on a 40x30 base and 5 cavalry on 50x50mm? Or something similar? Part of the trouble with the smaller scales is that of course, the visual impact is so very much dimished. Striking that balance while retaining a 3x3 board is tough!

We’re just playing the GdA scenarios so basing the terrain and unit dispositions ( which I think are probably scaled down 50% ) are pulled from those…..oh and we run out of 15mm buildings at four 😉😉😀😀 , hoping to play another one soon, keep an eye out and thanks for watching JP

Ahh well no Russian heavy cavalry in the collection, the scenario is a straight lift from the GdA scenario of Neys initial assault, so it’s only the early part of the battle and indeed just part of his Corps and we did have roughly the right unis for the lists provided. We will probably play another in a couple of weeks showing the final guard assault, hoping I can do a bit better next time….. probably still only will have the same four villages as those are the ones in the scenario and we run out of buildings around four😮😮😀😀, thanks for watching, cheers JP
