    The intonations in Danish are insanely funny. The subtle nuances of facial expressions. The actor playing the viking chief should really get some screen time here in Denmark, his portrayal of simmering anger and awkwardly trying to handle the situation is perfect.

  • @Heksefatter

    One thing that is even better when you know the original language: There is also humour in the contrast of how they speak when they are all Viking-y and when they discuss the helmet. During the latter, they speak like modern Danes with a slight ironic tone and sound very non-badass.
    The irony in the tone is somewhat lost in the subtitles. "He says that it makes it itch in his scalp." Basically the second Viking is saying "tsk tsk, what a whiner" with his way of putting it.

    The women definitely had the upper hand back then. There's actually a story of a danish king in the viking era who prepared for a raiding campaign. He invested heavily into having a fleet build but when it was ready mobilizing troops didn't go all that well. Reason according to the story was that the women didn't agree and had told their husbands not to go or else.. so most of them stayed at home and the campaign had to be postponed/cancelled.

    • @ribbitgoesthedoglastnamehe4681
      @ribbitgoesthedoglastnamehe4681 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not necessarily upper hand. People usually think its amount of power, and the power is all the same. But especially in viking times, men and women were different. Different lives, different duties in a house. A good example was that the woman carried all the keys, so a man could not go to the grain barn without asking his wife. The wife had all the power in that thing, while the man would have all the power while hunting or fighting. And on some things that overlapped, they had to agree on. And the man could go raiding if he wanted to, and the woman could make his life miserable if he did.
      What I am trying to say is not that women had a lot of power or that they were oppressed, but that our view of power itself is unrealistic, and we cannot understand history without understanding the power in society.

    Do you go down the road of traumatising people? Or do you go down the road of comedy?
    I recall research into this question from about twenty years ago.
    The route of traumatising people is favoured by politicians because it gets people thinking the politicians are doing something about road safety. However, the most significant response among viewers is, "It won't happen to me. I'm a good/safe driver/rider etc."
    The comedy works better because it is more relatable. After all, it is sensible to wear a helmet when people are likely to be swinging swords near you head.

    I will agree with you about who is the boss in a household but I also know a man has decision rights,
    If you slam your first on the table and say you do the laundry and dishes, you will do them 😜

    My mom and brother had this exact same conversation when he started skateboarding. Which was surprising, because I'd never heard them speak Dutch before.

    Love this ad. Very refreshing to see a different take on the "Wear A Helmet" advertising. 🪖

    I see at least bitching about helmets has always existed. Guy also hit his head immediately because he could not see the beam from his slow moving horse.

    Except almost no one in Denmark wears a bike helmet unless they are kids (who are legally forced to). I would but I have a massive head and I can't get one that fits. Yeah pretty good ad.

      that is why they made the ad, if people was wearing a helmet there was no need to make it
