Fun fact. The name of his son Hjalmar (who offer him a helmet) is old Norse, meaning 'helmet-wearing warrior'
Or just "Helmeter"
Its not his son' name that is Hjalmar it is the viking with the horn.
Every time I put my helmet on, I get the urge to yell "Mod skibene"
and i always answer:
"Du behøver ikke et skib, tag ud og plyndre i Tyskland, fordi du har en landforbindelse. Overlad det til de nordlige lande med skibene."
@@zoolkhan Hvis landforbindelse er kriteriet, er det kun Island og Færøerne der må plyndre med skibe. Sverige og Norge må tage sig af Finland og Rusland.
Honestly this add really needs its own show 😂
there is a serie called norseman i believe, its a comedy about vikings kinda like this.
That is how we do it here in Denmark.instead of giving command, we use humour, it works better.
Yep! Kinda wish I could show Charlie the new year song "Nytår Igen" by Sikkerhedsstyrelsen and have him understand it 😂 he would be laughing hard I think
@@DullyDust never saw it until now - Thank you for that suggestion - i laughed so hard when Niels Olsen sang what he did xD but you are right - until there are English subtitles, its not gonna be fun for anyone but us Danes
@@TainDK I've never seen it either, but the first I found had English subtitles: th-cam.com/video/WGIHQ8vbLZA/w-d-xo.html
-except for the text saying: 'use glasses', 'keep distance' and 'never return to a damp squib'
And the helmet is even proven wrong when the "careful rider" instantly hits his head on the gate.
of course, the bloody thing was blocking his vision!
Fun fact there is Only found 2 helmets in Denmark from the viking age so that says much🤣
It says they used them, repaired them, used them again, improved them and kept using them until they were completely worn out, then recycled the metal because it was too valuable to throw away. Helmets were the most common piece of armour worn, because they protected the bit that isn't covered by your shield.
@@Dafmeister1978 🤣 most danes where farmers and was just freelance Reading beside the army
Where does it say that🤣
the danes were by far the most successful Viking country in terms of raiding and war. at least on the largest scale and the most influential.
Being Danish and growing up in the 80's using a bike to school and later work, we never used a helmet. So they are trying very hard to reverse some very ingrained habbits that most Danes have. I suppose humour might do it? But I have my doubts. We are a stubborn bunch.
Am that old too. As the Dutch are keen bikers too, I like that they are stubborn too.
Tbh it totally surprised me, when moving to the Netherlands, that bicycle helmets here are a pretty uncommon sight from what I am used to from Denmark. Especially since the Dutch are well known as good bicyclists
On a racebike a helmet is fine, but on a commuter bike? Its like putting a helmet on for walking the stairs.
@@Durantis a lot of people slip in the shower or even fall out of bed and injure their heads.
so if we would make helmets mandatory in The Netherlands we should start with preventing those types of incidents.
showering while wearing a helmet and of course sleeping with a helmet on will save so much lives.
and to make sure we all do that the cops have the right to make surprise visits while we shower and sleep.
after all, safety first right?
/s
@@ChristiaanHW Yes, and mandetory helmet when out drinking.
@@DurantisIt’s during the commuting that accidents happens. Riding in dense traffic, cars and other bikes around you is the most dangerous type of transport.
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447
I'm not talking about the purpose of travel, but type of bicycle, and sportsbikes are obviously more dangerous, and you can also ride those through commuter traffic.
But i'm not worried. The risk might be a tiny bit elevated in commuter traffic, but chances of death in the Netherlands by headtrauma while riding a bicycle is 0.00103% per year. These are the stats:
Bicycle traffic: 1.03 per 100.000
Non Bicycle traffic: 0.9 per 100.000
Regular falls: 3.53 per 100.000
You are way more likely to crack your skull going about your normal business. So why no helmet then?
A yes wear a helmet it can save lives
Love this fun short one😂
I always point to that "I love helmets!" video of the longboarder that fell, as a big reason to wear helmets.
You look like a Viking Charlie
Hahahaha never seen this one. Brilliant. Tjezus Christ. Now I want to wear a helmet too.
This is among my favorite commercials of all times. If you haven't done it yet I, here's another recommendable safety video:
Air New Zealand - The Most Epic Safety Video Ever Made - AirNZSafetyVideo
We lovet ind Denmark its a big hit 💪😅🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰
Now thats a PSA =D
I've been riding motorbikes since I was a teenager, always wearing a helmet and on the bike too. It confuses me to see American films where everything is in the wind, I hope it's now mandatory.
top advertising, great
I've already lost 2 front teeth to not wearing a helmet. I don't even remember what happened. I hit my head very hard. I was 12 years old and on a bike path, alone. Also, I'm Danish.
Having no sensation in your front teeth can be really annoying even 25 years later.. and it took 7 years to have something permanent in place since while you're still growing it's complicated.
Almost same story. I was only 9 years old, I have slight sensation in 1 of my front teeth. But I can bite of ice and at this point I wouldn't know how to get through a summer with normal teeth.🤪
I fractured my scull and was in hospital for an extended period. A girl in the same room, had an even bigger head trauma. I think she lost ability to talk and walk.

Typical nordic humor
It really looked like it's taken out of a movie, but not a historically correct one.
The clothing, colours, armours, the rundown look etc. has nothing to do with actual Vikings but rather with the completely fantasy style looking TV series of the same name.
It’s a bloody commercial mate. Not “The Secrets of The Vikings”
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 My comment was meant as a reply to Charlie's statement that the clip looked historical and it felt like you were back in time.
Imagine telling Denmark it doesn't know what Vikings/Norse looked like.
@@AIHumanEquality ... and that LEGO sets have become much too expensive measured against their current quality... 😁😁😁
Can you say that to my face next to our rune stones ? Also whats wrong with thier clothes. theres no horns and they could easily wear a ringbrynje under thier clothes, is kinda cold in the nordics you know
No, a helmet is a bad idea! The biggest effect ist the Peltzman effect. Ride a bicycle with helmet is more dangerous than without. But the spot is funny!
Not in Denmark buddy, we have a working brain we like to preserve.
Only if you think a helmet can save you from everything and that you are invincible with a helmet. But in that case let Darwin have his toll.
No its not. Wtf are you on about mate. The helmet dont hinder anything, you can see, hear and move just as good as without one on.
I seen plenty of people without helmet drive just as "wild" as tho with. Diffirence is if both drive the same, and get into an identical accident. The person with helmet proberly have less damage to there head. Which is the entire idea of using it clearly. It is not to drive crazier then you normally would without one on.
Have save me twice so far getting hit by a car and just a "normal" crash. Both times i walk away with no damage , and my head hit the car twice. He thougt he could drive over for just recently red light from hes direction before us on bikes could start moving. And my crash was because a guy behind me hit my rare tire with hes front which made me lose control so i hit the sidewalk edge and made me crash. So hade nothing to do with me using the helmet that got me into either accidents.
The Peltzman effect is a postulate that was introduced as an argument about the seatbelt mandate. It claims that when you introduce security measures, you're more likely to engage in risky behavior. It has been thoroughly debunked and been deemed completely and utterly inaccurate, since introducing seatbelts caused fatal accidents to lower by 50%. Also - bike helmets was found to reduce head injury by 48%, serious head injury by 60%, traumatic brain injury by 53%, face injury by 23%, and the total number of killed or seriously injured cyclists by 34%.
@@PeterMortensen1978 Please use your brain and calculate how much energy a helmet absorbs. And how much an impact is mitigated compared to 30 km/h. School physics is enough for that.
