  • 🪄✨ Syntell and Mikel-Claire react and review the adaptation of the first of J.K. Rowling's popular children's novels about Harry Potter, a boy who learns on his eleventh birthday that he is the orphaned son of two powerful wizards and possesses unique magical powers of his own. He is summoned from his life as an unwanted child to become a student at Hogwarts, an English boarding school for wizards. There, he meets several friends who become his closest allies and help him discover the truth about his parents' mysterious deaths.

    The reason most muggles don't see magic happening around them is sometimes attributed to protective spells having been places on objects or places so that regular none magical folks can't see or notice them. For example, Hogwarts is a massive castle located in the highlands of Scotland. But when muggles come across it they only see old ancient empty castle ruins. If muggles find themselves getting too close to it then suddenly the muggles will start to think they have someplace important they have to go to that they previously forgotten about.
    In rare other cases when a muggle happens to witness magic by mistake, the local wizarding government called The Ministry of Magic will come and magically erase that particular memory from the muggle's mind.
    Certain cases are allowed only to a certain extent, like in the case of a wizard or witch having been born from a muggle family or is being raised by a muggle family like Harry and the Dursleys for example. But even then the wizarding child is not allowed to perform magic even in front of their muggle family even though their muggle family members know about their relative being born a witch or wizard and that they attend Hogwarts.
    The Wizarding communities consider it vital that their existence remain a secret for their protection incase for example muggles decide to bring back the witch trials and start burning wizards at the stake again among many other reasons as well.

    Harry's father was not a seeker, they did that in the movies but JK Rowling even stated that he's actually a chaser but in the books he did like to play with the golden snitch because it was fun to play with for him.

    Interesting fact the final scene where Hagrid gives Harry that book with the picture in it, that was actually the first thing that they filmed Daniel Radcliffe's eyes look puffy because, he tried colored contacts the character in the book Harry has green eyes. He was allergic to those and so they had to remove them, if you also look at Hermione Emma Watson they tried putting buck teeth in her mouth but it was hard for her to speak so they removed them as well

But originally he was not going to play Dumbledore he turned it down it was his granddaughter who said if you don't take the part I will never speak to you again. I've never read the books but apparently Slytherin had been winning for years, a lot of the time with help from Snape with awarding Slytherins excessive points and deducting points from the other houses for petty reasons. So while I still think it was a dick move to do the last minute change up because not all the Slytherins were involved in winning using questionable methods they had enjoyed an unfair advantage for far too long.

      @@ronweber1402 There is nothing in the books that implies Snape’s the reason for Slytherin’s win. That’s just a fan made thing. In fact, Snape never awards anyone points in the entire series. He also deducts way less in comparison to McGonagall

    You can't relax with Devil's snare to get out of it you need to use light or fire in some way. Ron actually never freaked out it was Hermione who couldn't remember that she could start a fire without wood. It took him reminding her that she's a witch that she can start fire without wood. A lot of the lines that Hermione got were taken from Ron, he did a lot of the explaining of The Wizarding World where they basically gave that to Hermione. And a lot of his Brave scenes they also gave to hermione.

      @@Syntell yeah the screenwriter said in an interview that he preferred Hermione's character. Basically he gave Ron's character the shaft by making him a slightly stupid and cowardly comedic sidekick when he was anything but in the books. He even took some of Harry's lines and ideas and gave them to Hermione.

    Being a Potterhead literally since the first book and being a walking talking encyclopedia, here’s some little random stuff and my personal opinion for you:
    In the books, book 5, they do mention a Christmas carol they have and it’s called God Rest Ye Merry Hippogriff.
    The director, Chris Columbus, who also directed Home Alone, let his daughter play Susan Bones, who gets placed in Hufflepuff … the best house 💛
    The reason we a lot of us love the franchise is cause a lot of us grew up with the characters. I was 11 when the first movie came out and 20 when the last one came out, and it felt crazy having it over cause it was such a huge impact in my life. It also saved me during a lot of traumatic moments in my life, cause after each one I end up reading the books again. I recommend keep watching. My fiancé and I just introduced her 10 year old daughter and now our entire house is Harry Potter theme and we are obsessed with the Hogwarts Legacy game as well lol. Sorry for the life story. It does get better and more adult, I swear. The best one is the 3rd one!

    From the moment Hermione points out the dirt on Ron's nose, it's a subtle indication of something. The "side eyes" are for a reason, as is the truly desperate cry from Hermione to Ron of, "No, you can't!" Lifelong readers of a certain genre of paperback books will probably pick up what's happening before most people.

    One of the things about these books (& hence the movies) is that the audience grew up along with the characters. Therefore, while the first movies were more child-like, the stakes get higher as they go along as the characters (and initial audience) age. So, you may appreciate or enjoy the subsuquent movies more as the tension and stakes build.

    Welcome to the incrediblely wonderful rabbit hole of a ride called the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Enjoy it well. 😊
    This is the song that the Sorting Hat sings in the book version of Sorcerer's Stone/Philosopher's Stone before he sorted the first year's students into their houses;
    "Oh you may not think I'm pretty,
    But don't judge on what you see,
    I'll eat myself if you can find
    A smarter hat than me.
    You can keep your bowlers black,
    Your top hats sleek and tall,
    For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
    And I can cap them all.
    There's nothing hidden in your head
    The Sorting Hat can't see,
    So try me on and I will tell you
    Where you ought to be.
    You might belong in Gryffindor,
    Where dwell the brave at heart,
    Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
    Set Gryffindors apart;
    You might belong in Hufflepuff,
    Where they are just and loyal,
    Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
    And unafraid of toil;
    Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
    if you've a ready mind,
    Where those of wit and learning,
    Will always find their kind;
    Or perhaps in Slytherin
    You'll make your real friends,
    Those cunning folks use any means
    To achieve their ends.
    So put me on! Don't be afraid!
    And don't get in a flap!
    You're in safe hands (though I have none)
    For I'm a Thinking Cap!"
    🧙‍♂️🧙‍♀️🪄✨⚡🖤
    BTW, I was sorted into Gryffindor and my brother was sorted into Slytherin in the Pottermore (now called Wizarding World) official website. The website was created by the Sony company and the author of the Harry Potter books, JK Rowling. I had to take a fun and special personality test to find out what house I am in.

    Rowling created a magic world in which paintings and pictures were moving, candles floating, ceilings imitating the night sky, and so much more.
    J.K. Rowling is a freaking genius. I was 36 when my daughter gave me Harry Potter and the Philosopher`s Stone as a Christmas present. When I started reading it, I did it for her sake, and I wasn`t pleased at all about having been "forced" to read a children`s book.
    To my surprise, I fell in love with it. The very next day, after I finished the book, I drove 20 miles to buy the second one. I didn`t read the books, I ate them :)))
    When the movies came out, I loved them to bits.

      FYI this first one is iconic and did an amazing job of introducing the world and characters, but IMO it’s one of the weaker entries. The third film is where it really starts taking off to another level!
      My ranking (film # in parentheses):
      1. Half-Blood Prince (6)
      2. Prisoner of Azkaban (3)
      3. Deathly Hallows Part 2 (8)
      4. Goblet of Fire (4)
      5. Order of the Phoenix (5)
      6. Sorcerer’s Stone (1)
      7. Deathly Hallows Part 1 (7)
      8. Chamber of Secrets (2)
      Just my opinion though! I do think general consensus is the second film is weak though, so please don’t lose faith after that one 😂.

    Great reaction as usual. This is probably my least favorite of the series but it does a good job of setting up the world.
    I’ve read all the books but it’s been a while. From what I recall they do a good job overall of sticking to the source material. More detail in the books obviously.

    Welcome to The Wizarding World rabbit hole that is Harry Potter. The best thing about the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, to me is that the chambers following the third-floor corridor containing Fluffy each play to the strengths of Harry, Ron and Hermione.
    The Devil's Snare chamber caters to Hermione's knowledge of spells.
    The room with the winged keys caters to Harry's skill with quidditch.
    And the chess room caters to Ron's knowledge of how to play chess.
    Side note:
    The Sorting Hat chooses new students' houses based on their corresponding personality traits:
    Gryffindor-Bravery, helping others, and chivalry.
    Hufflepuff-Hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play.
    Ravenclaw-Intelligence, knowledge, and wit.
    Slytherin-Ambition, cunning and resourcefulness.

I might have been like 7 when this movie came out. I also was raised in the south and yes they banned Harry Potter from my school. They banned this, lord of the rings, and the golden compass.

    I read the book before I saw the movie. I was so excited for this movie to come out. (I was an adult already at the time.) When I saw the movie I was amazed. It was really true to the book, with a few differences, but they were understandable from a movie making perspective. My favorite moment was seeing the Hogwarts Express. It was like somebody had reached into my brain and pulled it out. Magical.

    There are three consistent black characters in the series that we know of. Lee Jordan, who is the twins closest friend and in 3rd year, and frequently commentates for the games. Angelina Johnson, also in 3rd year and on the Gryffindor quidditch team as a Chaser. And Dean, who is in Harry's year and also in Gryffindor and Muggle born.

    Just a little correction. Magicians are muggles who do sleight of hand to make fake magic. Wizards actually do magic so yeah that's not the same thing. Also there is one post credit scene in the Harry Potter series and I didn't know that until in my 40s because somebody told somebody I was watching do a reaction. I did not know that and I own all the DVDs and it is the second movie that has the post credits scene

    As one of the people who grew up reading the books and then seeing the movies, I very much enjoyed the movies even though they left out a lot from the books. I actually feel like it's easier to enjoy the movies when you've read the books because they fill in a lot of the context that is missing from the movies. If you watch the entire series, you will probably find yourself quite often thinking that something came out of nowhere or doesn't quite make sense, but that is going to be because something from the book that explained it is left out.

There’s not a month that goes by that I don’t watch a Harry Potter movie… weather it’s all 8 parts or 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 parts…. lol … I grew with the movie … love the magical and mystical world of witches and wizards and ghouls and goblins…. Ghost and vampires … to wolves …. And all the beautiful creatures of fantastic beasts….. it was a breath of fresh air to the movies I grew up with …. Love my generation of movies…. But was craving for something new …. And then Harry Potter was born …. 😊

    of all the films, this is the closest to the book. yes it's very whimsical and "storybook" but don't worry it will grow and mature. these are "kids" movies, but the first two are the beginning of a coming-of-age story and once the momentum picks up you'll feel it.

    Books vs the movies: The first book was short (kid-friendly length), so the movie could tell the full story easily. But the books kept getting longer, and each movie had to cut out more details. That's why the final book needed 2 movies. It was the only way to tell the whole story. PS Each book/movie covers Harry's next year, ages 11-17. AND, the author planned them out as one long story arc. So clues and details can become important a year or three later!

    This why I missed Syntell and Mikel Claire team up. The pop culture references and calling out actions of characters. I felt some kind of way about the points and setting up a caste system for kids. Many of the same people who watched The Wizard of Oz loyally each year trying to ban Harry Potter. And I remember Vickie the robot.

    I am personally of the opinion that the books are significantly better than the movies. Not that the movies are bad, just that they leave out so much of the story. The first movie is probably closest to the book, but with each movie the gap gets bigger.
    I highly recommend you guys give the books a try, definitely worth it.

  • @VonOutlaw
    @VonOutlaw 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yes when the books came out there was an issue about the sorcery in the magic, but interesting little facts it is not religious based when it comes to the Harry Potter franchise it is genetics in science base. You have to have the magical Gene in order for you to even be able to perform Magic. And I believe if I'm not mistaken and one of the books they mentioned a science involving Magic class. Harry Potter is on the banned book list when it comes to private schools that are christian-based. Now JK Rowling has stated that she gave a bunch of different religions to different characters catholic christian Jewish. The one religion that she never gave out and would never see at Hogwarts is Wicca

    As someone who read the books, I can appreciate the movies but there is so much left out especially the further you get into the books. To me, the books are absolutely brilliant. The movies are good. My kids love the movies but never read the books.
    And Ron is sooooo much better in the books.
