    They won't say it in the movies, but Tom Riddle wanted to be a Dark Arts Teacher once, and Dumbledore didn't let him, so he cursed this class, that's why it's a different teacher every year.

      Dropping Divination and Muggle Studies made her schedule more manageable. I love the fact that Hermione is bad at Divination and can't really fly a broom very well. They almost made her flawless in the movies.

    • @johna6352
      @johna6352 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah...the turner was only on loan to her. If I remember correctly, they belong to the Ministry of Magic and their use is by special permission only. It was loaned to Hermione due to her overbooked schedule and only because of her strong academic record.

  • @LaurinGarcia
    @LaurinGarcia 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +26

    One of the things that was left out of the movie but was in The Prisoner of Azkaban novel is that James Potter (Harry's father), Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew were the original inventors of The Marauders Map. That is the reason why Professor Lupin knew how to use it. When the original Marauders were students in Hogwarts they were all best friends. When James, Sirius and Peter found out that Remus is a werewolf they decided to become Animagus (wizards that can willfully magically turn into an animal just like Professor McGonagall can turn into a cat) because werewolves don't attack other animals and Remus' friends didn't want him to be alone during the full moon period. This is why the map reveals the weird names when you use the "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" spell. They were the nicknames of the Marauders. Mooney is Remus Lupin because he is a werewolf. Padfoot is Sirius Black because his animagus form is a dog. Wormtail is Peter Pettigrew because his animagus form is a rat. And James Potter is Prongs because his animagus form is a stag.
    Dumbledore knew about Remus' condition and how Remus became a werewolf when he was only a very small child. So he had the Womping Willow tree planted and had a tunnel put in so that Remus can hide in the Shrieking Shack during the full moon cycle.
    🌜🌕🌛🐺🐶🦌🐀🪄🌳🏚

    • @Persewna4
      @Persewna4 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      To add on to that, the reason Peter became a rat was in order to press a particular knot on the Willow that acts as an "off" button, so that the others could then get to the tunnel. James and Sirius chose larger animals in order to keep Remus-as-a-werewolf in check. Before his friends joined him, Remus would spend his full moons in the Shrieking Shack, where he would turn on himself when lacking access to prey for him to hunt (the potion he takes while he's a professor did not yet exist during his school days). After James, Sirius, and Peter had mastered their forms, the four of them would run through the forest and over the school grounds on full moon nights. Fun for a bunch of teenage boys, but in hindsight, Remus realized how reckless they were.
      Also not mentioned in the movies (and which explains Snape's line to Sirius about vengeance when he catches him) is sn incident that occured between the Marauders and Snape when they were students. Sirius told Snape how to turn off the Whomping Willow and about the tunnel underneath it, knowing how Snape had been trying to figure out what was going on with them, especially Remus (like Hermione, he had put a lot of the pieces together through observation). When Snape went down the tunnel to the Shack, he very nearly encounter the werewolf, but James ended up putting an end to Sirius' prank and saving Snape from a gruesome fate. Snape blamed the whole group for the stunt, though. Catching Sirius in the same Shack he'd sent Snape to almost certain death years prior, must have felt like the most poetic of justices.

    The Leaky Cauldron where Harry stayed after getting off the Knight Bus is the same pub/inn that Hagrid took him to in the 1st one. It's where the entrance to Diagon Alley is.
    Hermione only got the time turner at the beginning of *this* year. She enrolled in every class available to 3rd years and needed the time turner to manage her schedule. She gave it back at the end of the year because she dropped Muggle Studies and Divination so she didn't need it anymore.
    A Patronus can take the shape of something similar to a spirit animal that is different for each person if it's strong enough. Some full grown wizards can't cast a fully formed patronus and Harry did it at 13.
    The creators of the Marauder's Map (not explained in the movies) are:
    *Moony* - Remus Lupin - werewolf
    *Padfoot* - Sirius Black - dog animagus
    *Wormtail* - Peter Pettigrew - rat animagus
    *Prongs* - James Potter - stag animagus
    They were all friends as students at Hogwarts. When the other 3 figured out that Lupin was a werewolf (turned as a little boy) they spent a couple years teaching themselves to become anamagi so they could keep their friend Lupin company when he was in werewolf form. Animals can't be turned into werewolves so they were safe to go and keep their friend from being lonely in their animagus forms.

    I love how the Potterverse handles time travel. The time turners can only go back 5 hours max and the devices are heavily regulated by the ministry. McGonagall had to petition the Ministry on behalf of Hermione for use of a time turner. Hermione had to swear to keep it a secret. The fact she never told her best friends about it shows that the Ministry made the right choice.
    Hermione's work with the Ministry started early. If you know, you know. 😉

      A fun little tidbit is that both Bill and Percy Weasley are stated to have received 12 OWLs, the same number of classes that Hermione needed the time-turner to attend. So, assuming you have to take the class to take the OWL, they most likely were given time-turners as well.

    The real confusion is because they omitted a very important detail from the movies entirely. The James Potter, Sirius Black & Peter petigru. All became animagus to keep their werewolf friend Lupin company during those 3 full moon nights that he turned. Hiding in the shrieking shack, which might be why it's called that. But most importantly that they created the marauders map.

    I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will correct this, but from what I recall, the kids are mostly the age of their characters, like within a year or so. Out of the main trio, for example, Rupert/Ron was the oldest (birthdate '88,) Harry/Daniel was spot on in age for his character ('89,) and Hermione/Emma a tad younger ('90.) The way I remember this is because my son, and Daniel, were born the same year.

    • @Persewna4
      @Persewna4 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I've been watching a few channels' first time reaction to HP movies and this is the movie that seems to make them sit up and go "oh Hey, these aren't just kid movies, huh?" PoA is my favorite book for the mystery and reveal, and I think it helps shake up the formula and show the darker places the series can go. It's also the first year Harry doesn't completely "win", so to speak, which I think adds to that tone. Like in the first two, all the obstacles in his way get solved/beaten by the end (such as how CoS gives both Lockheart and Riddle their just desserts in the climax of the plot). In PoA, while Harry learns the truth about Sirius and Peter, Peter manages to escape and Sirius is fated to a life on the run. It shifts the tone of the series, showing the audience that Harry can't and won't always win them all...

      It’s certainly the best “movie” from a movie making standpoint. Alfonso Cuaron directed this film and he’s the most well regarded director of the films from a critical standpoint. His long takes and incorporation of the surroundings to set a mood certainly help this movie stand out.
      Alfonso Cuaron is the only Harry Potter director who has won an academy award, and he’s won 4. He didn’t win any for this film, but Harry Potter didn’t really get nominated at all, other than for the score I think.

    Haha the distrust of Lupin was hilarious. I always felt comforted when Lupin was around but that’s because I read the books. I wonder if I would’ve been suspicious of him to if I hadn’t. He’s unfortunately a part of the many children attacked by werewolves a long time ago. Also in the book the dementors would actually use their own mouths to cover yours to suck out your soul, that’s why it’s called the Dementors Kiss. I think that was a little graphic for the movies 😅

    • @user-dx2dm8oq8g
      @user-dx2dm8oq8g 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree, for people who read the books it's a different viewing experience. I think that lupin was meant to be trusted from the start with a bit of suspicion as to the werewolf thing to create shock when he would side with sirius, the viewer would think they're evil, then it would be revealed that they were good guys. The dog was sirius rather than lupin, I think that that was also a surprise too, the tea leaves had a double meaning, figuratively and literally.

    The clues were also in their names, Sirius Black, Sirius being a consolation in the night sky of a dog, so black dog. Remus Lupin, Lupine comes from a Latin word that means werewolf. Remus is one of the names of twins that founded Rome and was raised by a she-wolf.

    I think why they couldn't go back with the Time Turner is cause it can only go backwards in time. Thus why Hermione and Harry had to just wait out certain moments in the forest. If they went 13 years back to see Harry's parents, they would be stuck there, living over a decade, trying to not interact with anyone and not change events, until we catch up to our main time. By then, they wouldn't even be at Hogwarts cause they'd be almost 30

    In the very beginning of the book it stated that you want to eat chocolate after the mentor attack it helps replenish the happiness so to speak. That's why Lupine keeps giving Harry chocolate after being attacked by the dementor. Also Remus Lupin thought that Sirius Black was guilty the whole time until Harry told him that he saw Peter Pettigrew on the map. It was only at that point that he knew that Peter was the one that betrayed The Potters and not black.

    Hermione gives the Time Turner back to Professor McGonagall at the end of the school year by the way! And time-turners are pretty heavily regulated by the Wizarding Government, so there's not much room for them to be taken advantage of. There's a lot of explanations and missing context in the movies that's pretty much always answered by "it was in the books". The Harry Potter movies were kinda made with the idea that most people had already read the books, so there's stuff they just don't include because it's considered given information. Whether you agree on if that's a good method or not, that is the reasoning for most things you'll wonder about or be confused about. So if you have to ask, expect the answer to just be "it was in the books" LMAO

    Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite book and movie. Some of the things the movies leave out regarding Sirius are fun facts for me. The motorcycle that Hagrid rode in on in the first movie belonged to Sirius. He gave it to Hagrid to help Harry escape. I thought it was a full circle moment with him buying Harry's broomstick at the end, because he also bought him one as a baby. It explains why Harry was so naturally comfortable on them.

    So when it comes to time traveling in this movie it is considered a closed loop everything that happened was already explained in history. So basically what they basically went and did they already did, what's supposed to happen has happened will happen. So it's just one big closed loop there's no branching off of timelines like with Marvel or with Back to the Future. Where Marty McFly goes back in time and changes the past to the point where his parents turn out differently when he comes back to the present. With that one they're branching off the timeline and altering the timeline.

    I love this reaction. Out of all the movies in this series, the third is my favorite just based off the twist and turns in the story. You could tell how different it is from the first two movies. As the characters get older, the stakes get higher. Fun fact: the marauder’s map was created by Professor Lupin, Sirius Black, Harry’s Dad, and Peter Pettigrew. When someone uses a patronus spell, the spell takes form of an animal. So, the reason Harry saw the stag when he was with Sirius is bc his patronus takes a form of a stag. My theory own why Harry thought it was his father bc his dad’s animagus form was also a stag. I cant wait to see guys react to the next seven movies bc it gets even more intense.

    It's not made clear in the movies but in the books The Marauder map was created by James Potter Sirius Black Peter Pettigrew and Remus Lupin. James was prongs, serious black was padfoot Remus Lupin was Moody and Peter Pettigrew was warmtail, I hope I'm feeling Peter's nickname correctly I feel like I'm not but. They were the creators of the Marauders map, they were the four Marauders.

    Between Michael Gambon and Richard Harris (RIP to both of them) when it comes to the character of Professor Dumbledore, I will always choose Richard Harris. When I read through Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone for the first time, then saw the movie version, Richard was everything I envisioned Professor Dumbledore to be in the books: A wise, caring, wizard mentor who had a level head and a heart of gold. Michael Gambon did his best, and I commend him for it, but there is a part in the following movie adaptation that didn't match up with the literature. I will not spoil it for those who haven't seen what I'm talking about. Michael Gambon was a very dynamic Albus Dumbledore from Prisoner Of Azkaban-Deathly Hallows Part 2 with how Dumbledore uses magic.
    My favorite things about Prisoner Of Azkaban:
    1. The song "Double Trouble".
    2. Hermione punching Malfoy right in his smug face.
    3. The introduction of Gary Oldman as Sirius Black and David Thewlis as Remus Lupin.
    4. Harry flying on Buckbeak's back.

    I should note the reason why they look older than 13 is because they didn't film every year the cast are older than the characters. they usually filmed a movie every 2 yearsfrom this point on because they needed the cast to be old enough to do some adult content in the later films

    It never says this in the movies. But dumbledore was able to cast a protective spell on Harry when they left him with his aunt and uncle. Because his mother died for him, Dumbledore was able to cast a protective spell so that until he is 18, as long as he lives under the roof of a living blood relative of his mother. Voldemort can't touch him there. Though a terrible place to live, Dumbledore felt it was the best way to keep his life safe as he grew up and while he was away from Hogwarts. He doesn't learn this until the later books. I don't feel it's a spoiler because it's never once explained in the movies.
    That's why he has to go back to his aunt and uncles even if it's for a short period of time. His aunt Petunia is his only living blood relative.

    The Timer Turner is dangerous. Some people have gone back & been killed by their past selves. Some stayed in the past too long, interacting with people, & became apart of that timeline, then when they when back to their real time, they aged hundreds of years & died. Entire families have been erased. Alternate timelines & branches can get nade. Etc.
    TT are all but illegal because of how hax it is. Hermione gave it back at the end of the term.

    (What I am about to say is from the books and shouldn't spoil any of the movies): I want to mention why some wizards can turn into animals, and why Harry thought his dad saved him from the dementors at the lake. You see, in the third book (the one this movie is based on) Harry's dad (James Potter), Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew found out Remus Lupin was a werewolf and wanted to keep him company when he was transformed on the nights of the full moon. But werewolves always attack humans but leave animals alone for the most part (at least in this book/movie series). So, they decided to perform a special ritual (a type of complicated magic) that would give them the ability to turn into an animal based on their personality at the time they performed the ritual (so if their personalities changed over time, the animal they turned into wouldn't). Withes and Wizards who perform this ritual correctly, and gain this ability, are called Animagus/Animagi. This allowed them to be with Lupin while he was a werewolf. Sirius gained the ability to turn into a Dog, Peter a Rat, and James (Harry's Dad) a Stag. They then called themselves the marauders, made the map, and gave themselves nicknames (Sirius was Padfoot, James was Prongs, Lupin was Moony, and Peter was Wormtail). Also, Professor McGonagall was an Animagus too, she turned into a cat in the first movie (but she was not a marauder, I think she was an adult when the marauders were at Hogwarts).
    Now when it comes to the "Expecto Patronus" spell, it is a powerful, and complicated spell, that allows you to shield yourself from, and banish, Dementors (and some other types of magical creatures, but I don't know what they are). It has two forms, one that is weaker and looks like wispy light (or something like that), and the other looks like an animal based on your personality and emotions at the times you cast the spell (so your patronus can possibly change into a different animal over time as you get older). And Harry's Patronus looks like a Stag, so since Ghosts and Patronus' look similar (both being transparent and a blue-ish white color) and Harry knowing his dad could turn into a Stag, I can understand why Harry would think what he saw at the lake was his dad. Although, this was all cut from the movie, which sucks because this is interesting information. But the movie is still great.

    Lupus is Latin for wolf. It’s where we get the word “lupine” + taxonomy for wolves (e.g. canis lupus for Gray Wolf). Lupin’s first name, Remus is also connected to wolves. In Roman legend, the twin brothers Remus and Romulus (the latter of which founded Rome) were raised by a she-wolf. There is a famous statuette in Rome called the Capitoline Wolf, depicting the brothers suckling a wolf. Harry Potter is replete with a lot of fun Classics easter eggs, from spells based on Latin words, beasts named after monsters in Greek mythology, and Classics-derived character names (e.g., Minerva McGonagall; Draco Malfoy)

For Example, My Patronus Is A Wolf, But If I Remember Right, One Of My Sisters’ Patronus Is Either A Rabbit Or A Dolphin, But That’s When Harry Mastered The Patronus Charm At 13 Years Old Which Is *THE* Rarest Things To Happen, That Means Even Though Harry Is A Third-Year Of Hogwarts, He’s _INSANELY_ Powerful Even For His Age To Be Able To Conjure Up A Patronus At 13 Years Old

Y'all didn't notice or retain it because you were having fun doing your British accents.... but you're excused for that: The first two movies are so kid oriented, that they aren't easy to get through if you're grown-ups who haven't seen Harry Potter before. You gotta do something to keep yourself in the seat, and you end up missing stuff. It's only natural you're paying closer attention now.
