@Shilvio D. Linton. For the most part it was absolutely fine. Some of the explanations of status effects on the card screen (such as the 'fragile' one I highlighted in the video) are slightly small but I don't see what else they could have done about this to be fair. Glen

EdenDev added a whole bunch of new spells and artifacts (therefore a bunch of new deck archetypes) and custom difficulties.

This looks like a cross between Slay the Spire and Mega Man Battle Network. While I wasn't that keen on Slay the Spire, this has me interested. Maybe it's the colorful art style. I'm sure to pick this up.

I absolutely love this game. I’ve been playing this for 4 months and I’m still discovering new ways to build decks which change how I play drastically.

@@joeco9513 Funny enough, I just came from finishing another run on One Step From Eden :) I’m still playing it and I love it. I’ve checked on my Switch and it looks like I’ve spent 350+ hours on OSFE and 20+ hours on Slay The Spire. Both are great though!
@@thecrisnav heyy thanks for the reply, yeah OSFE really looks unique. A game I thoroughly enjoyed that mixed genres is "Steamworld Heist" and for some reason I feel like I'm getting similar vibes of hype from OSFE. So, guess I'll start with that haha

Got this on my switch, so I can play it on the go and during breaks at work. Reminded me how much I loved the Megaman Battle Network combat. Shame no other game/series has really tried using this kind of combat.

This quarantine thing has me searching for indies lately on the Switch. The game looks interesting, but I wouldn't mind a story to hold me over. I'm gonna put it on the wish-list to try and grab it later down the line.
If you want a good story with amazing gameplay, get Hollow Knight or Children of Morta!

Damn! I haven't seen a game like this since megaman battle network. Always been a megaman fan as a kid, but battle network had to grow on me, but I eventually loved them. I'm gonna check this out once I get home.tomsee when it drop. Might have to pick this up.

No, not exactly. The card system is pretty deep although perhaps not as well explained as in games that focus solely on it. Glen
Funny you should mention Has-Been Heroes, as I thought of it for not only being a unique blend of different genres but needing some time to really click. Looks like One Step From Eden too might achieve making things kinda flow once you're familiar enough with the different mechanics of the game, which is what makes Has-Been Heroes absolutely brilliant!
General notes:
-The base weapon for every character isn't necessarily offensive. Saffron's Chrono starter deck gives you a time-slowing ability that deals zero damage, for example.
-Donating blood grants lessened gains in Sera(money) so as to deter abusing the mechanic.
-You can choose not to take a reward and gain small amounts of money(for artifacts) or XP(cards).
Slay the spire cross mega man battle network. Sold.

Battle network is my favorite GBA games. This looks great, but I was hoping for more exploration.
I've bought this game for steam and I think it is a very fun game. The only issue is the speed. Megaman Battle network was fast (specially when you get to the secret bosses) but you would stop the screen to adjust your strategy and build your combos. In this game you have potential to make good combos but with so much thought going in avoiding damage and moving around it can be overwhelming. Also I rather just play aoe spell and DOT spells rather than build a combo as there are good chances of missing due to the speed of the game. I still haven't beaten the game but I can manage to make it to the last map. If they could manage to make the enemies a bit slower I think it will make a much better game.
i hope this gets a part 2 or a LARGE update , dlc... such a challenging but good game
Played every Battle Network game but 4 and 6 back in the day, and now for lack of a working GBA I've really gotta scratch that itch. This looks like it will do the job nicely!

Very awesome game and friendly guys! I was able to demo it at Magfest 2020 and even though I was completely wasted, it was fun playing and talking to everyone there! Already a day one buy and I've put in 5 hours already.
Let's not talk about how at 2:50 the medic got absolutely *destroyed* by the player.

What would you suggest? You can talk to the devs directly on Discord. I'm writing suggestions and he can work on it if he thinks it'll help the game in a significant manner. At the same time, lore-based things would probably require a bigger time requirement for writing and implementing. I love story content so I know what you mean.
I think the developer stated once that he isn't much of a writer so kept the story quite vague. Perhaps such things will appear in a potential sequel or follow up game. Glen
@@DLinton It's hard to suggest as I haven't played the game myself, but based on the review from SwitchUp it's a very generic apocalypse story.
You don't need to implement a whole lot of lore to make the story interesting, but by giving the story a bit of a twist (e.g. Mutant Year Zero did this well, very generic story but still interesting to experience because of some twists)

Two people sharing health and mana... I can see where having a second hitbox and someone around to waste your spells could be very punishing.
You wanna talk difficulty looking at two sides of a screen at once? Try playing Chronos Twins or Dimension Drive.

This game gives you too little health, thus making it brutally difficult and not fun.

Just anothet unfairly hard game for no reason that would be so much more accessable with an easy mode.
not really, most players starting the game off are going to equally have a rough time simply because like most rougelikes, there's enemy patterns and mechanics that the player has to learn. a great example being in this video at 8:02 he thinks the green panels appear on his side during the boss battle are attacks, so he keeps dodging them. this feeds into thinking the game is unfair because afterwards she shoots a pretty much undodgable attack that deals a huge amount of damage. however once you learn that her boss battle is actually tied to the music and she wants you to follow the beat by stepping on the green tiles which give you enough shield to block her attack she does after, its 1000x more enjoyable of a fight.
of course not every single aspect can be given in the same example, and there are certainly parts that need a bit of a balance adjustment for a wider audience. but just because a game doesn't have a pickup and play kind of vibe to it doesn't mean its straight up unfair. for example there's way more defensive characters like reva who have a good amount of hp and her playstyle revolves around sheilding so its really hard to die on her making the game much more forgiving. and there's also the shop where you can buy pacts to give yourself more max hp so the whole "gives you to little health" argument doesn't really hit as hard.
TD;LR: There's a method to the madness and if you think it's just another unfair game it means you either haven't really stuck with it long enough to understand the game which makes it significantly easier in its own right or you're just simply not someone who has the reaction time to handle such a game as this and adding an easy mode wouldn't really fix that if its just simply reducing damage taken or adding more hp to you and less hp to enemies. only thing I can think of is making them attack slower but there are cards in the game for that already.

Sorry but looks like this game released on the wrong time. Competing with other good games like Animal Crossing, SW Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Panzer Dragoon Remake, Chaos Code etc. It's a skip for me.
