Great that you're doing yourself. From what I've seen in your fitout episodes I think that you are very capable to do a great job. There are good trick to undo rusty bolts. First spray them with something ! Wd40 for example . Work the spanner in both directions slightly loosening then slightly tightening and gradually loosening more than tightening. If that doesn't work then use heat. Good luck with the rest of the job!
Thanks for the tips Jason. I've definitely been using all those tricks in my arsenal but boy oh boy is it hard work with some of those awkward positions. hahaha
Anti rusting tip mate….lanolin!! Yip…good ole sheep grease. Sometimes difficult to get but works a treat 👌🏼👌🏼 You’re all doing a marvellous job 👍🏻keep going 👍🏻👍🏻
For painting prep is the key! honestly, the spar gun and compressor is not that bad once you do a few tet sprays. To stop the bolts in the doors rusting, remove regularly and grease, pretty much the only way. When we did the last re-door topping on the old Series 2, we had to retube it as the whole stud had rusted and swelled. Never seen anyone take the dash off with a grinder, and been doing Series and Defenders for 30 years nearly...
Thanks for the tips! I'll be sure to try and stay on top of them. And yeah riv-nut in the bulk head was stuck and the bolt was half unthreaded and was just spinning round and around. haha. Not sure of any other way to get it out other than nip the head off.
Had the same problem with the doors. As someone else mentioned, the bolts of the upper section have rusted into the lower door. I struggled for many hours to free them but in the end, I took the easy way out and replaced the door.
Grab hob, looking good guys. With those nuts that were rusted, you can get a product called never seize, might help coating them in never seize when you reassemble the doors
Maybe consider polishing it with a good wax to seal the paint and protect the paint, unless you used a clear coat. Waxing and buffing is a good protective layer.
The great thing about doing it your self , is you can be proud of the end job . and saying we did it are self . Great job so far you two . Cheers from Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A. :) :) 🍻👍🏼😁
I did mine properly for a few hundred bucks. It was an Australian army 109. You get the paint from Protec and it goes through a cheap spray gun easily. Get a few rattle cans for touch ups.
I would call the CH Tafe and see if they have a panel beating class and see if they will let you use their facilities. I'm in CH, great part of the country. 🙂
What’s the colour called I really like it ? Also in relation to your bulkhead I’m pretty sure you should apply T Wash before paint. Great videos well done
You can try and just wire brush/wheel the rusted threads, rust converter of some kind and then spray some zinc spray over them probs won’t last for ever but just prolong how quick it rusts back
Just pulling your leg thought you had a sense of humour…… in all your other post there’s a bit we you are allways grinding coffee and have a coffee 😉🫣😁
@@Berawabilly I think my brother is on about £7-8k for his 90 and it's not all done yet, will be a very good showroom finish though. The guy does high end insurance repairs for a living.
That's great! It's a bit of a slog but nice that it's all just bolted together. Plenty of rust and dirt in all of them, and some fiddly angles to remove them but all in all not terrible. haha

Nigel's going to be a whole new rig when you're done! Love the simplicity of older vehicles ❤
It’s so nice how you can work on older vehicles like this! Can’t wait to put everything back together again 😍

Thanks Mark, great idea!

Great job 👏 Nigel's going to be so handsome. Can't wait to see finished project.
that was great. I'm hoping to get an old landy soon to try to have a go at renovating. This channel is full of really helpful info.... Toowoomba area!

Big Job! Ol' Nigel will be a brand new man

Good idea thanks Keith!
Good job guys. Love your willingness to have a go yourselves 👍
Use copper ease when refitting. Also make sure you have new seals in between the upper and lower door assembly
Thanks for the tips! I have heard copper grease is good for that sort of thing!
Came out great. Thinking of doing something similar to mine, how many cans of top coat did you go through for the front panels?
Thanks a lot! I can't quite remember unfortunately. To give you an idea though for the back half (our next video) we used around 15 x 300ml cans

Thanks Gary. I was thinking I'd do a full cut and polish once Nigel is completed and reassembled. Great idea!

It's the original colour from land rover called bahama gold :)
Looking sooo good!
Nigel won't know himself!
An impact wrench would make short work of those rusted bolts!
Remove door skin from frame .Sandblast and galvanize the door frames will last forever
You can try and just wire brush/wheel the rusted threads, rust converter of some kind and then spray some zinc spray over them probs won’t last for ever but just prolong how quick it rusts back
Would also spray some cavity wax in all the door cavities and all the others you can get into just to help stop moisture sitting in all the internals
Thanks for the tips Matt!
When you don't need a show car finish, what you are doing is perfectly fine.
We sure hope so! 😊🙌🏼
Boy, those doors would have been heavy! Kendall's a tough gal (except for around the back of her head .🙂)
We make a good team! 😉
Try heating up the rusted bolts and nuts this will break the bond of rust
Wow and not one coffee in sight 😅
Not completely sure of the purpose of these comments but thanks for watching!

Spray those nuts in the doors with fish oil to prevent them from rusting 👍
That’s a great idea! Thanks Tom 😊

So much better. They would never have gotten to the detail that you will implement by doing it yourself. Plus sounds like they misheard 'gold'!!
We’re certainly giving it a lot more care and attention to detail that’s for sure!
10k is cheap nowadays actually

$10,000??? Wtf?? For real??
Nice, I'm keen repaint my perentie. Much work involved in removing all the parts?
