While I agree, the garage and water situation was definitely overstepping and taking advantage of the situation, I don't believe the plaintiff was getting paid for jobs around the house and not completing them, or at least completing them to satisfaction. If he indeed was just taking money from the defendant's mother without performing the work, why did it take the defendant 3 yrs to put a stop to it? Was she not checking in often enough or at all to notice these things? Apparently, if she allowed her mother 100% independence, she deemed her fit enough to make these decisions on her own. The way she kept referring to HER house as opposed to her mother's house kind of surprised me. Yes, the house may be hers now that her mother is ill, but at the time of these events, it was her mother's home. Also, her father passed in 2008, but she claimed she was going to sell his bed and wheelchair even though she hadn't even attempted to by the end of 2013. The plaintiffs definitely were given an inch and seemingly took a mile, but the defendant seems a bit disingenuous and highly animated. Sad case. The daughter came into her mother’s house like a wrecking ball. The time to try and stand on business isn’t when you owe money it makes the motives behind her claims a little sketchy.

This case appears to have complexities that make it challenging to interpret fully. While I agree that the plaintiffs did take advantage of the mother to some degree, we don’t know the complete scenario, as the mother was not present to testify. Judge Milian noted that the plaintiffs appreciated having steady work, and the parking space allowed them to remain nearby. However, when the daughter returned home, she saw her ailing mother’s situation and imposed her own rules, believing that Patrice (the plaintiff) and his partner were exploiting her mother. She cited various actions-like using the garage to store tools, rearranging items, breaking things, and washing their car, which led to a higher water bill-as evidence. In this contract case, however, the agreement was strictly between the mother and the handyman, not the daughter. The core of the case is that, in October, the daughter asked the plaintiffs not to come back, effectively breaking the lease early without explanation, despite their advance payment. Believing the handyman and his girlfriend knowingly took advantage of her mother, she attempted to enforce her own rules-rules she had no authority to impose under the existing contract. Had the mother been present instead of the daughter, the verdict might have been different.

When there’s no contract, you can change the price at any time. The plaintiff simply could have given notice that they didn’t want to rent the space anymore, just like a month to month apt.
Daughter....if she was there all the ti.eWHY did she let everything go on for so long. No storage rental agreement so should not get storage rental. Plaintiff get $150, defendant should get zero.
Doing that to the elderly is just despicable. Heck doing that to ANYONE is just despicable!!! My parents, up until recently, allowed a guy to use our driveway (we have a long driveway) and a grassy area to store his car while he worked on it. He had it there for YEARS before my parents got tired of it and told him to move it. I honestly don't blame them: he'd come sometimes and try to fix it, but he spent less and less time on it as time went by and they just got sick of it being there for so long, a lot longer than they had expected. Quite frankly, that thing was a piece of junk and belongs in a junkyard. I honestly think that the guy probably spent more money trying to fix it than the car was even worth. The only elderly person around who has a driveway connected to us is my grandfather who is our neighbor. We sometimes use his driveway too as he no longer has a car, having sold his own after my grandmother died and then having wrecked her car a few years later. We let him use my OTHER grandmother's old car which we were also storing in our driveway, but my grandfather wrecked that one too right around the corner from where he had wrecked the first car ironically enough. He no longer drives now. It's not a coincidence.
I don’t know everyone is saying that the plaintiffs took advantage but I don’t think they did. I think they did have a symbiotic relationship and I think she enjoyed the company and someone who was around to fix things for her. I also think he fixed things at a cheap rate for the lady. The defendant wasn’t there for her mother until her mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. Then she comes in and I think she feels guilty that she abandoned her mother after he father died. And was jealous. She also feels like Patrice’s ruined “her inheritance.”
The defendant does not have a light to stand on. I’m sorry. She’s trying to justify her actions because her mother is ill. There is no proof that the appointed any of these things, except for washing bird poop off her car.
Which isn’t even that bad I don’t know why the judge is so horrified. For all we know the defendants mother was really friendly with the plaintiffs and treated them like extended family. She wasn’t here to testify so we’ll never know the full picture. Sounds like the defendant projected some of her guilt of not being in her mom’s life and took it out on the defendants because they… didn’t pay market rate for parking? God forbid
Just because you can, doesn't mean that you should. The girlfriend got a good deal because of the boyfriend. The two should not have been grouped together. They were not a package deal. The boyfriend MAY have had pure intentions. The girlfriend...not so much.

Honestly I see it from a different viewpoint. The daughter seems one of those overbearing demanding kids who steam roll their parents. They will protect them if the parent wants or not. Often they dont agree with the parent and wont care what the parent wants. Makes me wonder if the mother was fine with everything until the daughter came and took over. I cant stand the daughter. Of course I also have experience with this and my mom and my sister. I call them false heros.
Let me get this right the daughter comes back to the mother's house and decided to take control having no clue what the relationship was between the plaintiffs and her mom or what her mom said yes to. She is not the nice person she portrays herself as because if she was she would have not gotten in between them and her mom when it came to the parking space and just paid them. She gives me the creeps big time
She said her mom is passive. There are lots of people that feel uncomfortable making waves, even if it’s for their benefit. My grandmother is like this, her roof could be falling and she won’t want to bother others with fixing it because it’s a hassle. But my aunt comes around to check on her and will put her foot down and get things done. If her mom was letting the plaintiffs passively take advantage because she was bad at enforcing boundaries then it’s good that her daughter came around to call them on their bs.

This woman is a witch.
I think she is a liar. These people do not appear to be the type to take advantage. She is a monster.
How does she know he did that?
🤔🤨🧐 clearly judge milian this lady is high off some pills or something she's very Moon she can't be still she over talking to you something is going on with this lady period and I think she making that stuff up and I think her mom in the lady and them had a good relationship until this hurricane back and made a habit of their relationship cry Me a River she is clearly playing on your intelligence and your heart strings you can see clearly see right through her w
Big old oman like you a talk bout boyfriend kmdt😂

Why do people always bring health answer the question when it has nothing to do with the lawsuit?
Those plaintiff's were horrible people.
