At some point I’m hoping there’s going to be a lucky group of people that put the Pikes Peak Multistrada vs the M1000XR on track and a cross country trip, and it is going to be glorious and I will be very jealous of their experience.

Ducati V4 wins hands down on the road, the M engine has insane top end but not enough low or midrange to make it fun on the road.
Would be nice if the V4 revved a bit higher, but it’s pretty close to perfect for road use in my opinion.
On track the M motor would kill it.

How do you know that, as I wasn’t aware the M1000XR had been release yet? That being said, the XR will be more uncomfortable I bet.

Realise people that one can't carry gear (as easily) on the M. It is not a quick XR as the touring capability has gone with no pannier fittings. The PP rules! Ridden both.

It was GS vs Pikespeak for me. Sept 4th was my pikes peak Anniversary. Done close 9k miles and am loving it. Last july in the middle of Colorado trip my pikes peak broke down with stone chip cracked one of the radiator(radiator guard is a must have). Rented GS for last 900ish miles and was really happy with my decision to go for Pikes Peak.
Like the way it revs, stable, turns, fit and finish. Tech is amazing. Adaptive cruise and blind spot monitor works perfectly. Finished ironbutt saddle sore 1000 two weeks back and adaptive cruise was a blessing.

I rode one of these and thought the same. Glad you had the guts to say it is a good bike and a bit better than v4s but that’s it. I have a great Ducati dealer and got a test on it. Best wishes, only pray for the engine not having some failures under warranty ( not kiddin', reports from USA and central Europe speak enough) 'cos the bavarian brand will refuse to cover them...! 🤔😁 Everyone has his own taste or preference, but tech specs and bikes engineering can tell about the difference between this bike and the others.

I ride a V2S with a lot less power and almost half the price, I love it because you can use all the performance on UK roads in comfort. Though I’d be tempted by a standard V4S (did test ride one) and I can afford one, the PP is just a rich man’s toy. I also hate the number on the side, to me it ruins the look, a Ducati should just be red😜.

Hey Chopsy. I love the channel, but have to disagree on this one. I had a V4S MTS and the V4S SF; I currently have the PP and a GSXR 1000 (L7). The PP is an incredible machine. Mine started to come alive at about 5000 miles and has the full Akra exhaust. I take it on track and run in the fast group (foot pegs, gear/brake levers and engine bars have all grazed the track - such is the grip and poise available). Dial off the WC and you can easily get the the front wheel heading skywards, as well as the rear under heavy braking. Not sure why you didn’t get the full PP experience, but it’s incredibly impressive.

I am fortunate enough to own a Pikes Peak now (I started off with a V4S, then a Super Duke R EVO, now the V4 PP) and I can confidently say that this bike is the best for me compared to the rest because of how good it is at everything. Even though the PP has a sharper throttle than the standard version, I confirmed that there are still some significant throttle limitations on this bike. I went ahead and flashed the ECU and you seriously have to be careful in 1st and 2nd gear. Keeping wheelie control on 5 as opposed to off, the bike still comes up (but controlled due to DWC). Wheelies in 1st and 2nd gear are now effortless and you can absolutely loop the bike backwards if you’re not careful. The bike does not like clutch up wheelies though. That is due to a switch in the clutch lever that is sensing for the rider “dumping” the clutch where the bike cuts the power off even with traction and wheelie control off. Unfortunately the flash did not get rid of that but regardless, any Multi V4 + ecu flash is a WINNING recipe for a bike that will not disappoint.
Great video! Glad to see someone else that considers it as their dream bike. It certainly was for me.

Love your vids but I do own a PP and thought I would pipe in here for those interested in this bike. One thing that I think is important for people to know on pretty well all Ducatis is how they perform pre and post break-in. In fact, I've never experienced any bike that is so diff pre and post. Ducati builds in a limiter above 6k RPM during the break-in. After the first service it is like a different machine. I would agree about its lack luster vibe but only pre break-in. Once you get that first service look out. The engine is smoother, way more snappy and revs higher. I own a gen 3 Super Duke, 22 Hypermotard, Desert X and a few others so I have a good comparison stable. You can ride the PP as hard as a SD or any sport bike and it will give you what you are looking for. The PP is extremely engaging once you push it, lean it etc. It is more comparable to the BMW XR vs any other bike. I hope you can ride it post break-in and ride it like you stole it. I think you will find it is very engaging and will pull the wheel up very quickly. The great thing about the PP is that at ridiculous speeds you can hit corners and it feels like you could sip your coffee as well, the lower bars allow you to hang off and letter rip. No, it is not a Super Duke or Hyper but in a track race the PP would beat the SD and the Hyper and in total comfort.

I was able to ride my PP quite a bit lately and definitely do not agree that it is sterile. It is definitely smooth and refined but I do believe Ducati didn't do this bike any favors by calling it a Multi-Strada, there is no "multi" about it. This is an upright race bike so they should have called it something like the race Strada or ultra Strada but it is not a bike for more than the street. I think people go in thinking it is an adventure bike and therefore, they ride them like an adventure bike. It needs to be ridden like a sport bike.

With that in mind it weakens the review....if you cant push the bike and find the sweet spots is it a review worth considering? No offense to Lamb Chop but if I had reviewed any of my Ducs within the first 1k miles it probably would not be even close to as favorable after 2500 miles. I know that is a big ask to reviewers because they are supplied new bikes typically so they can be first to do the review. My short review so to speak is based off of some real world miles and situations. Not gonna lie, there was a moment where I thought it was sterile.....that did not last. I really strongly believe that Ducati made a mistake calling this thing a Multi-Strada......by no means is that accurate and it is misleading....it should have been Uno Strada.....;-). This is no multi road vehicle in any way it is a comfy race bike. I added the taler seat and some risers and I find it more comfy than my GS on long trips and much more rewarding in corners, better tech and just plain supreme cool factor.

Almost a case of "don't meet your heroes" with this one Chops! I rode a MS V4S a couple of years back and the Granturismo engine left me somewhat underwhelmed... almost as if they made 170bhp feel a bit pedrestrian! The Pikes Peak screams Gregorio. Most of your review focused on the bike. I would flip your script (which was centered on the motorcycle) and focus on the rider fit. As an example, at 13:10 "you just don't have ultimate confidence to put it right on it's side" says more about the rider than the motorcycle.
I enjoyed your review. Gave it a thumbs up as I do to nearly all of your reviews. This one was an odd one. It almost seemed like you wanted the bike to be something it isn't...for example, a supermoto. There were other 'perceived' inconsistencies, but I'll leave it at that.

When I tested the V4s on open mountain roads I felt like on moto GP. But at the end I ordered the KTM 1290 SAS. And the power is the same, and the engine and sound with Akrapovic, I like even more and the price is 1/3 less.

Good commentary LC and shame about the 360. I've had the PP for 6mths and a V4S for 6mths prior to that. I'm not sure what bike you were riding (perhaps a V4S with PP decals on) but when you ride it fast and hard (you didn't) then you will definitely notice the difference by a country mile. I'm 15-stone and mine definitely power wheelies in 1st/2nd/3rd when it wants to. I reckon you should take it round the track and then decide as a few country lanes won't differentiate between the two bikes. I also have the race exhaust on it (dealer fitted at new) which ups it to 180-hp with an 'EVO' mapping. Keep up the good work !

I owned a SFV4S and now a MTSV4S and i have been driving the PP twice now... (and back to back with the normal) It's a SF on high heals! All of the same goodies and adding some comfort. For wheely's and hanging on the side of the bike you need some more miles. Power wheely's are quite easy if you are more agressive on the gas... I find the 'standard' MTSV4S to weak in braking (replaced the pads for more stopping power) only then you feel how weak the suspension is. Ohlins on the PP is much better! I hope to get my hands on a occasion this winter here in the Netherlands because i can' t wait! One last thing... Put some M9RR or S22's on it and you will feel the endless grip is there.

Sounds like you didn't spend enough time setting up the modes.
Should've put everything into minimal or off in race mode with the stiffest damping and max preload, and then seen what it's like. My front end happily comes up in lower gears with wheelie control on lower settings without even going full throttle or being abrupt with it, that is with the akra and that map for it.
The differences in ergonomics (lower and more narrow bar, higher and more swept back pegs, grippier and more sculpted seat that is much easier to move around on and hang off) and front end feel are pretty significant between pp and v4s (I've tried sxr, v4s, 1200pp (that felt more like a big supermoto), 1260pp, sfv4s, diavel v4, sdr Evo (the most vague feeling suspension I've ever felt, rode nice though), and v4pp all pretty close to each other time wise). There is a significant difference in feel/feedback and agility. But then again the bar angle is adjustable, and so is the seat height.
It's not as exhilarating/engaging/raw as my tuono v4 was, likely due to the body position and wind protection, especially when not ridden hard and fast because then it's more in the comfy putter mode, but it is so much more comfortable and happy to go slow when needed. Can't run away from weight in very tight and very twisty stuff, but otherwise it's as fast as anything out there, comfortable on the way to the fun road as well as exhilarating when really pushing it. The brakes are simply amazing too. I wish the bar was a bit more narrow and lower honestly, being more connected to the front would help.
SXR (or MXR hueheuheu) or regular v4s is probably a better answer for 95% of the people.

I was thinking this might be a sportier contenter but I do love character in a bike and some rider engagement and the Guzzi seems to have bags of both. And for today's roads, if you want to keep your licence, there can be too much easy power of tap. Great review , I got a v4s but still looking for a PP I did laugh as you said you’d not get one as not doing long trips as I chopped in a K1600 for the v4s as I wanted something lighter to Chuck around for local rides 😮 just enjoying it so much for local runs but when I chop in my Speciale the v4s will become a PP perhaps even a 2025 😅

Nice…. I’m. Duc fan at heart but my last 3 x bikes have been the XR. The latest XR is remapped & had full Akropovic system installed. I’ve added all sorts of goodies onto it & the bike is an absolute weapon. The price I’ve spent on it adds up to the sale price of the Ducati Pikes Peak. I would have loved to have gone back to my roots but I’m afraid the price couldn’t be justified. Too bad because the PP is a gorgeous looking bike,

Chopsy, are you sure you had the wheelie control turned off ??
I have the Rally and it wheelies like a bastard ! Even with the wheelie control on low it still comes up ! Wonder if the single sided swing arm on the PP is longer than the std model ?
One point I will make regarding the rally, if you turn off wheelie control this in turn deactivates cruise control & blind spot detection, and illuminates a couple of annoying warning lights on the tft.
I love the rally, great all rounder.

In June I bought a new Super Duke GT. The only other bike I was seriously considering was a Pikes Peak. In the end, it came down to getting the SDGT for $21k vs $33k for the PP. Maybe I should've sold one of my other bikes to justify spending the extra on the PP. Oh well. I made my decision, and I *love* the SDGT. It's such a hooligan bike, and I can put panniers on it when needed.

Been thinking about one of these to replace my 2022 KTM Superduke GT, a bike I really like (had a 2016 GT before). Main reason I want to change is the lack of KTM dealerships around Dorset, we lost Motocorsa last year and Holeshot a few weeks ago and I gather Trevor Pope may be closing so nearest now Bristol ! Do you think I would be disappointed with the Pikes Peak compared to the hooligan KTM ? I don't want to spunk a load of money on something I cannot test ride and may be disappointed with.

    • @tomtraynor5384
      @tomtraynor5384 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Did same--PP for the GT. The PP is THE two up sport tourer. The GT is really a Superduke, but: "Hey! Lets add windshield and bags and call it a sport tourer.". So it is. but the PP is tourer that is sporty--BETTER handing/ride/comfort to boot. not as raw and wild. "Creamy" is the word I use. Takes 20% less energy to ride and do miles on. Uses 20% more fuel (V4 thing....). Motor doesn't hit as HARD but I dynode both (PP has at the full race exhaust with Ducati Race exhaust mapping) and they is just 3-HP and 4-foot pound of torque between them. That is mostly down to the advance ride-by-wire nannies they are instituting--BMWs may be worse. Almost have to unlock the ECU and remove the partial thriottle nannies. My wife rates the PP a "10" from her view behind me, and the GT a "7.5."

I will probably test ride the new gt version which they have announced and take a call. 15 pc better comment was the highlight for me. My purpose is to do long distances comfortably and the gt might fit the bill. I am not into the super moto thingy but will test ride the smt too just to get an idea (currently have a tracer gt which is very light and nimble) thank you once again - this is my dream machine too . I sold it after I realised I hadn’t looked back at it after a ride or just polished it for no reason in the garage.

I have one of these and struggle to get a wheelie out of it in the lower modes. But then why would I want to wheelie on a nice long country ride out. I also have a Streetfighter V4 SP and also struggle to get decent a wheelie out of it in the lower modes. On both bikes this is by design due to the engine configuration and the swing arm length especially on the Street Fighter. But in my opinion the Multi Pikes Peak is the pinnacle of what Ducati have done with a bike. And now to put a spanner in the works they've made an RS.
