I don't play Ubers so I have no opinion on the competitive side, but I gotta say it is unfortunate that now the only option for running a team with Future Paradox Electric Terrain teams (a team archetype that I really like) in any tier is... Pincurchin. I don't blame Smogon, I blame Game Freak. It sucks that Past Paradox mons have 4 options for sun setters but the Future Paradox only have 2 Eterrain setters. If they didn't want to bring Koko back, I really wish they could have at least either buffed Pincurchin or introduced a new Eterrain setter that's good but not OP
The dedicated miraidon counters are the only things that really get negatively affected by the ban, every future paradox pokemon except treads and occasionally bundle was bad in the miraidon meta. The ban helps the tier in terms of variety
Bro you literally never know what you're talking about yet I always see you complaining about bans and shit. Just go play a game of Pokemon for fucks sake instead of sitting around malding all day about a game you basically only spectate.
With Ubers and Ubers UU now they can make Ubers a proper tier if they want. Ubers was only ever really a banlist cause there were never enough pokemon to make a tier but now Ubers is the size of OU. Although rising to Ubers sound hilarious.
No way this thing stayed unbanned, like that thing one shotted an AV rilla from max health without electric terrain during it's first ever regional, it had to banned
We need new Pokémon with terrain setting abilities. Something like Pelipper and Torkoal but with the Surge abilities. How about Electivire? Or Kilowattrel.
i wouldn't say miraidon is less broken than gen 8 zacian , it just had some flimsy checks[the three ground types you mentioned] that zacian lacked in gen 8, if skeledirge and/or dozo existed in gen 8 , zacian-C and zacian would've taken time to be banned just like miraidon in this gen imo, but banned anyway
Unfortunately, as cool a mechanic as Terastalization is, it's gotten to the point where it does feel like the core problem with almost all of the OU and Ubers bans. Pokémon that would normally just be "extremely good" or "top tier", like Volcarona or Miraidon, just get pushed over the edge by Terastalizing into a defensive type like Fairy, Water or Steel, or by further amplifying their already potent STAB types further. While I was fine with it early on, it feels like a new vote needs to be considered on Terastalization in Singles formats, where open team sheet isn't that reasonable.
I’ve been saying this from day 1. The list of bans that wouldn’t have happened without Tera is absurd. But everyone said it’s to preserve the identity of gen 9. Now it’s a gen that has identity that no one wants to play. The sad truth is that just like dynamax, Tera was balanced around vgc, not singles. Until the community realizes this, gen 9 is gong to continue to lose players and have the problem of constant meaningless bans.
Yeah a lot of those pokemon were balanced out because of their obvious weaknesses. Gliscor and ice for example, it was always strong but it had a glaring downside.
Maybe, but I'll be honest here, Calyrex shadow should have been banned in gen 8 as well considering the meta got forced to have yveltal, Dusk Mane and Eternatus ala gen 1 OU; you NEVER want a meta to resemble gen 1 OU.
I dont really play beside the occasional random bat but i really think tera type should be shown on the overlay, vgc did open team sheet partly bc they knew not knowing tera types would be insane
Terastalize is the biggest reason why most of the broken mons get even more busted, because they're able to suddenly one up their checks. Miraidon for instance, can easily run Tera fairy dazzling gleam and destroy most dragon type or ice type checks. It's an unbalanced mechanic for singles. In doubles you can attack with two mons, and very rarely are there situations where one Tera covers two different type of attacks. It's an unhealthy mechanic specifically for offensive mons, because it can enable them protect themselves in situations where they shouldn't be able to or give them a big power boost. Why is it that when I put a physically defensive fighting type (Greta Tusk)on my team specifically to check a physical dark type (Kingambit), it can suddenly become a flying or fairy type, set up on me and sweep me.
@@Blackhomeking12 That's an interesting argument - it brings to mind the question "what is the point of Tera as a mechanic?" I think back to the optimism of the past, where people were theorizing about Tera type use on specific Pokemon to try and get around their weaknesses. Using Tera in creative ways was the more fun aspect of the mechanic (and in my logic is the *point* of the mechanic), but being able to use it at any time in a given battle is an unusual amount of versatility to have. Dynamax had many problems, but one of the most important was its ability to be used at basically any time and Uno Reverse card momentum. This is one of Tera's largest problems, and imo tying it to an item means that you can keep the more creative uses of Tera on Pokemon that *truly need it* to succeed, because they will commit to its use. Think about how strong hazard stacking is in this generation - if you wanted to pick between HDB or a Tera Orb on Volcarona, which would you choose? Not to mention, the "point" of the mechanic being versatile doesn't apply to in-game trainers at all, where they will use it on their ace for battle flair. I think this mechanic being as versatile as it is is actually a flavor *loss*. The problem with tying it to an item is its use in VGC - that is to say, there wouldn't be nearly as much usage in VGC, which is probably why they chose to use it this way. Better to err on the side of making a marketed mechanic too strong and adjusting it in post, compared to buffing it later and trying to change people's minds on using it. That being said, I realize Smogon leans so heavily on being cartridge viable, but I wouldn't even mind if the nature of Tera fundamentally changed to make singles more fun. If Game Freak isn't going to balance around Singles being fun, maybe we should take that responsibility ourselves. If we can have National Dex, why stop there? tl;dr... nuh uh
I would honestly like to see a Tera-less version of gen 9, just to see what it would be like- would Miraidon, Kingambit, chi-yu, etc be as impossible to deal with without it? What would it even look like? All of these cool mons that seemed so fun while enhanced by Tera also become its casualties
Koraidon has like the perfect tera type (fire) which might make it a little easier to handle. I mean you can do for a different tera on it, but fire is so good because it makes you resist fairy (biggest weakness) and powers up your fire attacks even more. I have seen ghost and fairy of course, but it's hard to say no to sun boosted tera fire flare blitz.
I think it was just that dealing with _both_ Lizards was too much. Imagine, if you will, a world where Gen. 1 had a Super Saiyan Beedrill. It has Mewtwo's stats, but with Defense swapped for Special and 255 Attack. In every other way, it is a Beedrill. Mewtwo and SSj Beedrill can kill each other, but they need setup to do it consistently and some variants might match up worse against others, so they don't truly check one another. Meanwhile, you now need to plan the rest of your team around both Mewtwo and SSj Beedrill. Mewtwo answers get torn apart by SSj Beedrill and vice-versa. At that point, the community would probably make a call on which one is the lesser evil and ban the other. One is fine, two is not.
In that case, it still should have been koraidon, because there are other viable sun setters, but now there is nothing that can unlock the full potential of the future mons in Ubers.
I remember when Miraidon was allowed in Ranked battles and it was a force to be reckoned with, I remember countering it worth Arena Trap Dugtrio but that mostly worked if it was Choice Specs Miraidon
As someone who has almost only been playing gen 9 Ubers I can’t tell you how happy I am. The meta has been so radically different since the ban and the team diversity has been fantastic to see. Now this mon isn’t a guaranteed slot and 2 other slots on your team are open as you don’t need to bring a check for both set up and choice miri. Really hope this influences a retest of korisdon because Ubers could really become so balanced and enjoyable if so
Miraidon's ban will make electric weak pokemon like kyogre, ho-oh and arceus water more common which zekrom can outspeed and destroy after a dragon dance boost. But Zekrom still faces competition from Koraidon.
I don't really play competitive myself, I kind of just watch the videos you and others make about it. But the logic for banning Miraidon at least makes sense to me. Maybe it's less obviously restricting than over-tuned legendaries of the past, but if it's truly strangling the meta to the point where over 80% of the playerbase wants it gone from Ubers, maybe it needs to go. Or maybe it doesn't. As you said, there have not been that many Pokemon banned from Ubers in the past, so each new ban is a major event. I suppose we can only hope that it is the right decision for the metagame. And if not, it can always be unbanned.
If Miraidon can be banned from Ubers after a year of use, the idea of Terra being banned after years of use really isn't too far fetched huh. Exciting to see. I cannot be bothered to play tbh, but I like to hear updates.
In my eyes, since Gen 6 Ubers with Mega Ray, the format should be treated like a normal tier where bans are allowed and can be for whatever the tier deems worthy of it.
The power creep in gen 9 has just been a crazy acceleration, I've tuned out of it quite a lot myself which is a shame. I'm hoping that going forward it scales back some, and terra likely wont be back either which im sure will make a lot of the decisions a bit easier next time around.
It's normal its moves are stab, boosted by the terrain he sets and by spa buff, and a choice specs and tera electirc, the fact that it has volt switch and discharge and it can get a ko on basically all mons that aren't ground
Lots of people said on release that Koraidon was the better box art legendary, if feels good to be able to say "I said so" when saying Miraidon is just better
I've never played Gen 9 besides a little National Dex but considering how Miraidon sounds oppressive without Tera then it's possibly a good thing. Hopefully it's not like Snorlax in Gen 2 OU where it held back more problems.
Iron Mugulus clearly is to blame for all the weirdness of this generation. As a gen 9 pokemon himself, Iron Mugulus has been allowed to terrorize the video games since the start. The fact that nobody has even suggested he be stopped shows you just how powerful his influence is. Even the Smogon players are too afraid to stand up against him.
I feel he was banned as Terrains aren't as common as Weather Control, allowing himself, as well as the other Iron Quark Drive users to benefit, all while only needing to have a rain setter for a counter. If Koraidon used Grassy Terrain or introduced a different variation of Terrain, while Protosynthesis benefited off it, I'd say he'd be ban worthy then.
I agree with Jimmy. Miraidon is very powerful, but so are like 7 other mons this gen. I love to use Miraidon; i favored a scarfed Miraidon that was a great counter to Miraidon and Koraidon late game, and just fun to use. Koraidon is now way too strong and will be banned soon, leading to an uber metagame where the generation's box art legendaries arent allowed to be used in any format people actually play.
I still don’t understand why Smogon hasn’t taken a page from VGC and at least shown what the Tera type is. Idk if it would have helped in Miraidon’s case but some other bans would have been avoided if you made that variable less surprising
Showing what Tera Type the mon is doesn't help, you're still playing the same team with the same mons and its not like the randomness is being decreased to a manageable level with some mons
I do not like the statement "you are not supposed to ban things in UBERS". UBERs has been more then just a banlist for OU for a long time. It has its own Metagame. It has its own playerbase. Why is the community in a community Metagame not supposed to make it more fun to play? Saying you dont ban from UBERS is like saying you dont ban from OU or you dont ban from UU. While there is a point, yet no point, to be made for this statement in any other Tier, for UBERS it is just dumb.
@@usernametaken017 True, there’s a reason GSC OU is popular. The difference there of course is that Lax is able to keep a lot of the hyper offensive powerhouses (namely the two legendary Electrics) in check and allows more creative teambuilding due to its excellent role compression. Whereas like you said, Mirai ain’t it. It’s way too overtuned and limits team composition, at least from what I saw
I see it to some degree. In many older player's minds Ubers is what AG currently is. You wouldn't ban a pokemon from AG in its current state that'd be stupid, but what if generations from now, people started seriously playing AG and then felt there was a specific pokemon that was too much and made the AG format unfun to play, well then they'd probably ban it to like idk AAG (Actually Anything Goes) and for many that started playing in gen 6 it'd feel wrong to see a pokemon banned from AG.

I think the difference between Koraidon and Miraidon is that
Sun doesn't boost Koraidon's STAB typing,
Electric terrain boosts Miraidon's
It is as such far more busted, even if sun has much more general use
Miraidon is also more of a speed demon and electric is a really strong type in general, and miraidon has less weaknesses Yada Yada yada
@@insertnamehere1398 I like how people try to compared koraidon and miraidon and when you put everything to paper you see miraidon is clearly better

If only we had the tapus. At least we have tapu-boom
Future paradox wasn't really a thing in ubers to begin with tbh
Can't believe we needed to double back on the same reason to realize, yes that is bannable
This ban killed the viability of all Future Paradox Pokémon
The dedicated miraidon counters are the only things that really get negatively affected by the ban, every future paradox pokemon except treads and occasionally bundle was bad in the miraidon meta. The ban helps the tier in terms of variety
What Future Paradox Pokemon? They're all OU for a reason (except for Bundle that guy got mildly inconvenienced I suppose)
Bundle: Am I a joke to you?
Good, paradox mons are a blight on the franchise
Bro you literally never know what you're talking about yet I always see you complaining about bans and shit. Just go play a game of Pokemon for fucks sake instead of sitting around malding all day about a game you basically only spectate.
With Ubers and Ubers UU now they can make Ubers a proper tier if they want. Ubers was only ever really a banlist cause there were never enough pokemon to make a tier but now Ubers is the size of OU. Although rising to Ubers sound hilarious.
No way this thing stayed unbanned, like that thing one shotted an AV rilla from max health without electric terrain during it's first ever regional, it had to banned
i think jimothy's pronounciation of groudon has grewed on me

How about Electivire? Or Kilowattrel.
Volt switch surger electivire sounds cool
Give it to Luxray. It could use some love.
Jeeze. I didn’t expect this to be my morning poop video.
Banning way later is probably just that the people playing now are different and fewer than the people playing at the start of Gen 9.
i wouldn't say miraidon is less broken than gen 8 zacian , it just had some flimsy checks[the three ground types you mentioned] that zacian lacked in gen 8, if skeledirge and/or dozo existed in gen 8 , zacian-C and zacian would've taken time to be banned just like miraidon in this gen imo, but banned anyway
Smogon should reverse the zacian and Zamazenta nerfs for the future since mega ray is coming back.
That’s current World Champion Miraidon to you!!!
Pincurchin becomes Ubers pic now or we gonna run terrain extender + electric terrain Regileki/Electrode
Miraidon has just been banned from Gen 9 Ubers
Tera has always been the only problem with gen 9
Is why Natdex UU is the best format because it’s the only one that banned Tera
Maybe, but I'll be honest here, Calyrex shadow should have been banned in gen 8 as well considering the meta got forced to have yveltal, Dusk Mane and Eternatus ala gen 1 OU; you NEVER want a meta to resemble gen 1 OU.
@@N12015 gen1 ou is fine tho? You only outright need 1 pokemon, Tauros. Everything else can be safely swapped out if you know what you're doing.
im gonna make my own ubers with blackjack and miraidon
Imagine if Terastalization just required an item, like the Arceus plates
It’d be significantly worse. You wouldn’t have the mid fight surprise factor or an item
@@RebelTrooperHoth Like Z-moves it would be substantially balanced.
That's the forgotten smogon pet mod "Accessorize"
That would get rid of the point of it
@@Blackhomeking12 That's an interesting argument - it brings to mind the question "what is the point of Tera as a mechanic?"
I think back to the optimism of the past, where people were theorizing about Tera type use on specific Pokemon to try and get around their weaknesses.
If we can have National Dex, why stop there?
tl;dr... nuh uh
Jimothy, you forgot this exact thing happened to Zacian's base form last gen
This was a bit different because why use base zacian when you can use the far more busted one
I am shocked. Shocked! Well, not that shocked.
There's a wrench in the works.
Miraidon is miraidone. This is insane
Maybe soon, Koraidon will be koraigone. Only time will tell
7:06 the guy forfeiting right after his miraidon goes down should tell you everything you needed to know about the format
Really hope this influences a retest of korisdon because Ubers could really become so balanced and enjoyable if so
Hope this means my boy Zekrom will at least improve it's standing somewhat
Miraidon's ban will make electric weak pokemon like kyogre, ho-oh and arceus water more common which zekrom can outspeed and destroy after a dragon dance boost.
But Zekrom still faces competition from Koraidon.
Zekrom is about to (Zekrom) Kick the competition
Losing Electric terrain is a blow tho, that's why I'm not sure
Zekrom being outclassed is more because of koraidon than miraidon.
@@yungmuney5903 Hopefully koraidon gets banned too
Ooooh maybe we’ll see raging bolt getting a niche with the same typing and gets calm mind as well. Maybe a nice core with groudon and ho-oh
As a HO ubers player miriadon was my favorite mon to face because it was so easy to deal with. it is sad to see it go
Obviously, we just start banning more pokemon and eventually create the UberUbers Metagame
Koraidon, now it’s your turn!
Miraidon being banned must be the work of Iron Muggulis… he must be stopped
If Miraidon can be banned from Ubers after a year of use, the idea of Terra being banned after years of use really isn't too far fetched huh. Exciting to see. I cannot be bothered to play tbh, but I like to hear updates.
I'd rather them take a long time to ban something than immediately ban it. It means that it has more thoroughly been proven to be a problem.
I really want Gen 10 to have no gimmick. Bring us back to the pre Gen 6 meta cycle.
Setting electric terrain synergies too well with Iron Mugulius and its quark drive.
Pincurchin's usage in Ubers is about to skyrocket.
Miraidon is the cover legendary of Pokémon Violet for the Nintendo Switch.
baffles me how stuff like xerneas and primal groudon/kyogre weren't banned.
Gen 6 and 7 Ubers are good metagames anyway though
I had more of an issue with Necrozma Dusk Mane in Gen 7 than PDon
We need a status that can cut special attack in half, like how burn does with physical attackers
They need to replace Freeze with Frostbite and then we are good.
Pokemon singles has become unfun in my opinion. It’s just a game of who do I sack next due to power creep.
It's normal its moves are stab, boosted by the terrain he sets and by spa buff, and a choice specs and tera electirc, the fact that it has volt switch and discharge and it can get a ko on basically all mons that aren't ground
Asd soon as I saw this bicycle I knew it was gonna be problems.
How long until we accept a very large issue is tera?
Can't wait for the inevitable tier above AG next generation.

Pokemon should have their terra types displayed in the team preview perhaps?
Whats the name of the background music at the start?
Lots of people said on release that Koraidon was the better box art legendary, if feels good to be able to say "I said so" when saying Miraidon is just better
Anything goes slowly grows every generation
Gen 19 will introduce AG UU
Leaving goats like sudowoodo in the dust
I'm not surprised it was banned, but I am surprised it took this long. I guess DLC gave it some time
At least it gets to flex it's World Champion trophy alongside it's other AG brethren not named Arceus.
The future pokemon being banned for being too futuristic this is shocking
“Primal groodon”
I still don’t understand why Smogon hasn’t taken a page from VGC and at least shown what the Tera type is.
Idk if it would have helped in Miraidon’s case but some other bans would have been avoided if you made that variable less surprising
Showing what Tera Type the mon is doesn't help, you're still playing the same team with the same mons and its not like the randomness is being decreased to a manageable level with some mons
@@oscen335 agree to disagree
I do not like the statement "you are not supposed to ban things in UBERS". UBERs has been more then just a banlist for OU for a long time. It has its own Metagame. It has its own playerbase. Why is the community in a community Metagame not supposed to make it more fun to play? Saying you dont ban from UBERS is like saying you dont ban from OU or you dont ban from UU. While there is a point, yet no point, to be made for this statement in any other Tier, for UBERS it is just dumb.
Well sometimes a centralized meta can be fun. Miradon ain't it though
@@usernametaken017
True, there’s a reason GSC OU is popular.
