Then of course I had the weirdos angry with me on Twatter, because the hero in the comic/game I am remaking, is straight as hell and my girls are sexy lol. I remember my pops brought my art to Marvel way back in the day, and I would have killed someone to work there (not literally... Maybe lol kidding). They liked it, but I was too young. 3 years ago I was offered a job there, and I was like "No thanks." I'm busy with my own projects and I'd be fired anyway because I'm not left politically and I don't like the woke crap.
Yeah I’ve been rereading comics from the golden and silver age. Started with spider-man, iron-man and x-men and just slowly making my up to the 2000’s. X-men is nothing like it is now, honestly, using the x-men name should get them sued for plagiarism because this is not x-men.
Gay fanfics have been a part of pop culture since the Kirk+Spock stuff in the 1960s. However, it's just something that a tiny subset of the fans speculate about on their own... for free. For corporations to try to make this a part of their brands and charge money for it was NEVER going to work. Just tell good heroic fiction stories and let the fans speculate about the private lives of the characters on their own time, outside of the main stories. Turning these well established books into fetish porn just shows that you're out of ideas and/or you are just a bad writer.
Exactly and most who enjoy speculation or reading gay fanfiction don't actually want that fanfiction in the real stories, what fun is there to imagine then. Sure there are some crazies who do anything for their fanfiction tp become true but they are an extreme minority. The thing is too that the whole world is not supposed to know about your fanfiction. I don't mind some romance, but it's not the main driving force for reading Superhero comics. Romance is more of a plot device to give a character more personal stakes. Batman with Catwoman has being a long running cat & flying mouse thing.

It wasn't about the romance, but without them, the characters wouldn't at all be the same. So we DID care. Abandoned floppies 20+ years ago. Seems like the rare purchase these days is Conan type material, Hellboy, Shaolin Cowboy, horror, Warhammer 40k, manga books. Rather pursue old books like EC, DC 60’s-70’s horror books than modern books. Gay books? Meh.
Iceman and Hercules both existed in medium where you could literally see their innermost (heterosexual) thoughts and desires for 50 years. If you read the Iliad, you won’t find one mention of Achilles having sex with Patroclus as an example. They did the same thing with Loki. Also, the characters are just based on the myths.

But like any creator, you throw around ideas for a character then you need to see how will it fit with the overall world and story and any good editor would have explained how that would open up a whole bunch of questions that distract from the actual story. Also what was wrong with mystique stating Nightcrawler mother? We’ve had gay characters in comics for many years. In Nightcrawler's case, Claremont's first parentage idea was to have Nightmare, a Doctor Strange villain be his father. That was scrapped even if he still introduced one of Kurt's family members (his adoptive mother) in a Doctor Strange/X-Men issue, while also revealing there that Nightcrawler was found next to the body of his dying mother. ...It was done in that same issue where Claremont made the big brain move of having Nightcrawler's longtime girlfriend at the time also be his ADOPTIVE SISTER catfishing him and had them still date after that reveal.

I’m a gay dude and iceman is my favorite character and I HATE what they’ve done to him, he was never gay, and as a gay character he has become so freaking lame! He hasn’t had any interesting or cool moments since he’s become gay. I love destiny and mystique, and I even like them as a couple, but they focus on it so damn much that it’s just pandering lame nonsense. I’d rather see them doing horribly interesting stuff instead of writers trying to rehab their characters and focusing on their relationship.
Years ago, around the early 2000s, I had a friend on a fan fic site and this place specialized in Slash-fic. They had pages and pages of just above outright porn stories. When dealing with super heroes or supernatural characters it could get incredibly graphic and violent. Now my friend she was a good old lefty only slightly to the right of Lenin and she commented on a story that had a character from an established franchise come out as gay. So far so normal for this place. She would criticize it in the comment section, however, because the character went full on camp gay. Like full blown lisping, limp wristed, spent the weekend buying hats gay. She pointed out that the character was a thirty year military veteran and in his 50s and he most likely would not behave this way if he came out this late in life. The sheer amount of hate, bile and death threats that this woman was assaulted with was staggering. Even her friends on the site quickly realized the public opinion and turned on her despite agreeing with her offline. That is why this isn't going to get fixed and why I truly believe comics as we've known them will die out in our lifetimes. These people will attack their own and don't care if they ruin something so much that it dies. If the last book Marvel ever publishes before shuttering it's doors, never to reopen, is Herc smashing Bobby into pieces on Fire island then they are okay with that. They see it as a good job done and on to the next IP. These people are creative and cultural locusts and if you have any ability to stop them do not let them anywhere near your fandom.
Here's the rub, I've been getting into multiple threads where people are accusing fans that want curvy Rogue in "X-Men '97” of sexualizing the character like perverts, and yet here the same type of people pondering how Bobby Drake takes or gives it. The cognitive dissonance is profound.
I still perfectly remember how, back in the very first issue of Rogue and Gambit from 2018, Rogue asked out loud while preparing herself for her own ceremony, if Mystique and Destiny ever thought about getting married to each other. Rogue has the advantage of having Mystique's psyche in her head, Destiny's own diaries at some point and even living with the two since she was a child. If Rogue had to ask herself that very question, then Mystique and Destiny weren't married before Krakoa. This becomes the more apparent when in that same issue, Mystique was in the attendance, heard what Rogue was saying and didnt correct her at all.

I've been reading X-Men comics regularly for the past 35 years and I have to say: it's sad to see what the franchise has become. Once this krakoan shit wraps up, I'm done. I should have quit when Bendis finished his trainwreck of a run, but I stuck around. I'm not making the same mistake twice.

Once again the Japanese are absolutely eating the US comic market alive. They have Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia, Fire Force. Demon Slayer could easily be a Blade story. MHA is 100% anime X-Men. Fire Force is essentially "super hero firedighters." And they all seem to be what you'd expect from 90s/early 2000s Marvel comics story-wise. At the exact same time..... the manga industry has an ENORMOUS gay comic market. Yaoi & Yuri are two separate genres that are exclusively gay or lesbian stories. Ironically, the yaoi (male homosexual) genre thrives on female readers, many bring straight women.
Why would I want to pay Marvel prices for poorly-written slice-of-life romance when manga does it better for a lower price per page? AO3 is free anyway.

The ridiculous push for gay crap is why I left American comics. It saturated a lot of the titles I read and it killed my interest in the stories and characters. It’s been frustrating watching long established characters become gay because they were handed to an LGBTQ activist writer. Iceman had 50 years of characterization as a straight skirt chaser and heroic adventurer to now be nothing but a gay “party pass around” to please 2%.

The things the writers want to do with the characters are far worse than what is currently being allowed to happen to them; one of Marvel's writers uploaded a Zoom call that had 6 or so people attending, and they were all hyperfixated on converting well-established characters into members of the alphabet mafia.

Well they basically moved on from Akihiro to Bobby. Before they just had him bouncing around and popping up if there was anything slightly gay. These publishers are supposed to be about numbers. So has any one of them bothered to see how many of their patrons are LGBT. Better yet, after doing this how much new LGBT readership has been gained.
Despite being straight I strongly suspect there are many LGBT comic book fans who don't like what is happening to these characters. A lot of these characters seem to be acting, probably for most, unrealistically stereotypically. Most fans probably want the emphasis to be on a good heroic story and good characters and their development that isn't just about their sexuality.

Iceman was my favourite X-Man growing up. From Spiderman and his Amazing Friends, the O5 X-Men, all through the 90s. I love the episode of the X-Men cartoon where he shows up. He was often a cheeky, slightly immature guy who loved the ladies. It genuinely upsets me that to see what they have done to him.

This group of X-Men writers have accomplished something that's never been done in my 40 years of reading comics, they have made me almost completely drop the X-Men. I've only collected the main title and Wolverine for the past 3 years. I don't even want to watch X-Men97.
I think this people achieved something i thought impossible, they made a lot of older comic book fans to quit, to "grow up". Since this people took over i already gave up comics, animated series and even D&D. I really didn´t replace them with another media or enterteinment, i just exist in this grey world without joy, like what society thinks adults do.

Then of course I had the weirdos angry with me on Twatter, because the hero in the comic/game I am remaking, is straight as hell and my girls are sexy lol.
I remember my pops brought my art to Marvel way back in the day, and I would have killed someone to work there (not literally... Maybe lol kidding). They liked it, but I was too young. 3 years ago I was offered a job there, and I was like "No thanks." I'm busy with my own projects and I'd be fired anyway because I'm not left politically and I don't like the woke crap.

Yeah I’ve been rereading comics from the golden and silver age. Started with spider-man, iron-man and x-men and just slowly making my up to the 2000’s. X-men is nothing like it is now, honestly, using the x-men name should get them sued for plagiarism because this is not x-men.
Gay fanfics have been a part of pop culture since the Kirk+Spock stuff in the 1960s. However, it's just something that a tiny subset of the fans speculate about on their own... for free. For corporations to try to make this a part of their brands and charge money for it was NEVER going to work. Just tell good heroic fiction stories and let the fans speculate about the private lives of the characters on their own time, outside of the main stories. Turning these well established books into fetish porn just shows that you're out of ideas and/or you are just a bad writer.
Exactly and most who enjoy speculation or reading gay fanfiction don't actually want that fanfiction in the real stories, what fun is there to imagine then. Sure there are some crazies who do anything for their fanfiction tp become true but they are an extreme minority. The thing is too that the whole world is not supposed to know about your fanfiction. Seems like some of these fanfiction crazies have become so loud tganks to social media that they now seem to think that everyone actually wants this fanfiction, or they have hired these crazy fanfiction writers yuk.

It was fun to speculate about until that pairing actually happened in the comics, under Bendis (All-New X-Men #15), and it completely ruined the fun of my fanfic, so I abandoned the idea.

I don't mind some romance, but it's not the main driving force for reading Superhero comics. Romance is more of a plot device to give a character more personal stakes. Batman with Catwoman has being a long running cat & flying mouse thing.

Iceman and Hercules both existed in medium where you could literally see their innermost (heterosexual) thoughts and desires for 50 years. The same was true of Alan Scott/the Green Lantern. He was clearly heterosexual, was married twice, was in love with his wife, and suddenly he's gay, despite nearly 80 years of seeing his inner thoughts where he was clearly only attracted to women. It's absurd.

If you read the Iliad, you won’t find one mention of Achilles having sex with Patroclus as an example. They did the same thing with Loki. Also, the characters are just based on the myths.

In Nightcrawler's case, Claremont's first parentage idea was to have Nightmare, a Doctor Strange villain be his father. That was scrapped even if he still introduced one of Kurt's family members (his adoptive mother) in a Doctor Strange/X-Men issue, while also revealing there that Nightcrawler was found next to the body of his dying mother.
...It was done in that same issue where Claremont made the big brain move of having Nightcrawler's longtime girlfriend at the time also be his ADOPTIVE SISTER catfishing him and had them still date after that reveal.

I’m a gay dude and iceman is my favorite character and I HATE what they’ve done to him, he was never gay, and as a gay character he has become so freaking lame! He hasn’t had any interesting or cool moments since he’s become gay. I love destiny and mystique, and I even like them as a couple, but they focus on it so damn much that it’s just pandering lame nonsense. I’d rather see them doing horribly interesting stuff instead of writers trying to rehab their characters and focusing on their relationship.
Years ago, around the early 2000s, I had a friend on a fan fic site and this place specialized in Slash-fic. They had pages and pages of just above outright porn stories. When dealing with super heroes or supernatural characters it could get incredibly graphic and violent. Now my friend she was a good old lefty only slightly to the right of Lenin and she commented on a story that had a character from an established franchise come out as gay. So far so normal for this place. She would criticize it in the comment section, however, because the character went full on camp gay. Like full blown lisping, limp wristed, spent the weekend buying hats gay. She pointed out that the character was a thirty year military veteran and in his 50s and he most likely would not behave this way if he came out this late in life.
The sheer amount of hate, bile and death threats that this woman was assaulted with was staggering. Even her friends on the site quickly realized the public opinion and turned on her despite agreeing with her offline. That is why this isn't going to get fixed and why I truly believe comics as we've known them will die out in our lifetimes. These people will attack their own and don't care if they ruin something so much that it dies. If the last book Marvel ever publishes before shuttering it's doors, never to reopen, is Herc smashing Bobby into pieces on Fire island then they are okay with that. They see it as a good job done and on to the next IP. These people are creative and cultural locusts and if you have any ability to stop them do not let them anywhere near your fandom.
Here's the rub, I've been getting into multiple threads where people are accusing fans that want curvy Rogue in "X-Men '97” of sexualizing the character like perverts, and yet here the same type of people pondering how Bobby Drake takes or gives it. The cognitive dissonance is profound.
This isn't about representation or inclusion. Marvel just has a very desperate obsession.
I still perfectly remember how, back in the very first issue of Rogue and Gambit from 2018, Rogue asked out loud while preparing herself for her own ceremony, if Mystique and Destiny ever thought about getting married to each other.
Rogue has the advantage of having Mystique's psyche in her head, Destiny's own diaries at some point and even living with the two since she was a child.
If Rogue had to ask herself that very question, then Mystique and Destiny weren't married before Krakoa.
This becomes the more apparent when in that same issue, Mystique was in the attendance, heard what Rogue was saying and didnt correct her at all.

They have Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia, Fire Force. Demon Slayer could easily be a Blade story. MHA is 100% anime X-Men. Fire Force is essentially "super hero firedighters." And they all seem to be what you'd expect from 90s/early 2000s Marvel comics story-wise.
At the exact same time..... the manga industry has an ENORMOUS gay comic market. Yaoi & Yuri are two separate genres that are exclusively gay or lesbian stories.
Ironically, the yaoi (male homosexual) genre thrives on female readers, many bring straight women.
Why would I want to pay Marvel prices for poorly-written slice-of-life romance when manga does it better for a lower price per page?

The ridiculous push for gay crap is why I left American comics. It saturated a lot of the titles I read and it killed my interest in the stories and characters. It’s been frustrating watching long established characters become gay because they were handed to an LGBTQ activist writer. Iceman had 50 years of characterization as a straight skirt chaser and heroic adventurer to now be nothing but a gay “party pass around” to please 2%.

I work in the film business same problem over here except all character can't be white (or straight) unless they're bad guys.
I talked with lesbian friend of mine, telling her about writers turning characters gay , her response was of the lack of gay representation , I asked her if she or anyone in the gay community liked comics that she knew of . The answer was no .

The things the writers want to do with the characters are far worse than what is currently being allowed to happen to them; one of Marvel's writers uploaded a Zoom call that had 6 or so people attending, and they were all hyperfixated on converting well-established characters into members of the alphabet mafia.

These publishers are supposed to be about numbers. So has any one of them bothered to see how many of their patrons are LGBT. Better yet, after doing this how much new LGBT readership has been gained.
Despite being straight I strongly suspect there are many LGBT comic book fans who don't like what is happening to these characters. A lot of these characters seem to be acting, probably for most, unrealistically stereotypically. Most fans probably want the emphasis to be on a good heroic story and good characters and their development that isn't just about their sexuality.

I celebrate my divorce from these shitty companies all of the time.
Remember when Iceman went to Black Widow's wake or funeral or whatever and all he could think about was finding a guy to have sex with? Nobody questions it. These people he known for over a decade in comics time see it as completely normal.
How detached from humanity are the writers that they see that as a normal thing to do?
Good thing is this issue will be retconned alongside the rest.

I don't always agree with everything you talk about here, but I'm with you on this one. I consider myself a very open-minded person, but I am sick of comics trying to make existing characters gay.

Iceman was my favourite X-Man growing up. From Spiderman and his Amazing Friends, the O5 X-Men, all through the 90s. I love the episode of the X-Men cartoon where he shows up. He was often a cheeky, slightly immature guy who loved the ladies. It genuinely upsets me that to see what they have done to him.
I’m just tired. If I wanted a romance, including gay romances. I would buy or borrow a romance novel. Like this probably even more embarrassing for professional romance writers. Did anyone think of that? There are amazing authors that do romance, smut and slice of life. They even do it with Superheroes. It’s not like any of this is new.
How embarrassing must it be for such authors to be lumped in with these hacks.🧐
Just makes it easier for me not to buy comic books. Saves me a lot of money.
I wonder how much longer the top sellers will be able to keep up with covering for the Toilet Paper titles before the Balance Books really start to go extremely in the red?
Disney isn't exactly currently profitable for Marvel Comics to keep wasting money forever.. 🤷
These narcissists literally can't comprehend people disapproving of them or their messages. They have the best ideas, the ONLY ideas, and anybody who disagrees is a bigot to be ignored. These people would post their fan fiction on Instagram, savor the praise, then block and delete any dissent so all they have in front of them is praise. Now they do the same on Twitter. Block and delete anyone who says anything bad and just bask in the praise from their fellow narcissists.
This group of X-Men writers have accomplished something that's never been done in my 40 years of reading comics, they have made me almost completely drop the X-Men. I've only collected the main title and Wolverine for the past 3 years. I don't even want to watch X-Men97.

I think this people achieved something i thought impossible, they made a lot of older comic book fans to quit, to "grow up". Since this people took over i already gave up comics, animated series and even D&D. I really didn´t replace them with another media or enterteinment, i just exist in this grey world without joy, like what society thinks adults do.
I remember well reading Omaha the Cat Dancer, and I still have the comics. Something like that, with new characters, would be an appropriate way to tell these kinds of stories. Superhero stories are not the way.
Lol, if I was in charge of restarting X-men after the crap over last few years, I'd literally pull the "it was just a dream" and reboot. It's the biggest middle finger I can think of.
As a member of the lgbt, can they stop pandering to us. These stories they keep making is copy and paste bland, and very stereotypical. If you're going to turn a character gay, build up to it, give them flaws, and make them imperfect. I'd rather be represented by clay puppington than any of these sterotypes.

I an not a gay. I don't hate gay-people. And I even have read books/novels written by gay-people about gay-people. The "gay theme" is not the MAIN propblem in those "modern-comics". The true main problem is that those "modern comics" are just BORING, they are not interesting, they are poorly writen. Andre Gide, Oscar Wilde, Mary Renault or Hans Henny Jahnn - they were gays, but they KNEW how to write.

When I got to my local comic shop on free comic day, most of the books were gone, but the dr who and marvel voices books, were still there.
Every year Pride month competes with Christmas on getting visibility months before its designated month... last year Pride was in women's month now in Black History..

These characters are ruined FOREVER. Nobody at Marvel will have the balls to put these characters right again by doing away with all the deviancy the Activists injected because they're all afraid of being cancelled, even though it would start to HEAL their numbers over time if they made it known they put their characters right again.

I wonder if they’re being paid/incentivized to destroy comic book companies from the inside. Hijacking the medium which motivates and inspires so many people over the years. They’re taking away our heroes. They’re taking away our heroic tales. They’re destroying relationships people have had with the characters for years. It destabilizes the reader and that’s what they actually want.
