- Simon "Si" Spurrier writes novels and comics. His work in the latter field stretches from award winning creator-owned books such as Numbercruncher, Six-Gun Gorilla and The Spire to projects in the U.S. mainstream like Hellblazer, The Dreaming, and X-Men. It all began with a series of twist-in-the-tail stories for the UK's beloved 2000AD, which ignited an enduring love for genre fiction. His latest book, Coda, is being published by Boom! Studios at present. His prose works range from the beatnik neurosis-noir of Contract to the occult whodunnit A Serpent Uncoiled via various franchise and genre-transgressing titles. In 2016 he took a foray into experimental fiction with the e-novella Unusual Concentrations: a tale of coffee, crime and overhead conversations. He lives in Margate, regards sushi as part of the plotting process, and has the fluffiest of cats. Make sure to subscribe today! / @comicpopreturns

"Can I swear, by the way?"
I love him. I love this.
And he is so humble. Hearing how he responds to people telling him that his "X-Men Legacy" changed their lives really got me.
Goddammit I didn't know he was so handsome.
Some people really do have it all huh
Hummina hummina
I always expect comic book writes to look like all the stereotypes. Just neck beards in moms basements or hella old guys who have been around forever. But nah they all damn near good lookin people. Lmaoo.
Yes, Sal is very handsom
Look at his wikipedia picture, he hasn't always been this handsome. That X-money (and beard) goes far
Sorry about the video being out of sync. It shouldn't have been, that's our fault.
dont even trip dog. its all goooood. we love the interview!
You know, I never thought about Kurt using Spider-man as an escape mentally but, Spider-man is the perfect identity for that. How many times does Peter just don the suit to clear his head web sliniging? It seems obvious once Simon explained it but I never would have made that connection myself.
Si Spurrier is such an intelligent and humble guy. Did not expect this vid today but so pleased to spend an hour listening to you guys have a lovely conversation. Thanks so much again for these interviews Sal!
I love these creator interviews so much. There’s always so many little nuggets you find out that you wouldn’t hear anywhere else
Loved this (despite the sync). So glad to hear Spurrier talk he's the exact right level of pub bollocks pragmatic intellectualism I want out of a UK comics creator.
Spurrier’s one of my favorite writers working right now. Thanks for such a fantastic interview Sal!
Ever since I read the The Dreaming(2018) by Si Spurrier, I couldn't get enough of his work. Amazing writer and an amazing interview.
I need to buy the Omnibus of it. It was so great. I want to be able to just read it without looking through my long box for issues.
The legend himself!
The legend himself and Si Spurrier
Love Si Spurrier and this interview rules
I like him. Its interesting to hear where he comes from to inform his writing what he uses for inspiration and so on. It was a great chat, happy i watched it.
Great conversation. Enlightening, entertaining, and much needed considering all that's going on. More of this please, Sal.
It makes me so unbelievably happy to hear Simon say that X-Men Blue Origins is going to be the definitive Nightcrawler _birth_ story. Especially because Azazel has been persona non grata in Spurrier’s Nightcrawler comics. 🤔
Ohh shit🎉🎉 this is awesome !! I love getting to learn more about these creators artists that I love. I feel these interviews are not only fun but important, In my opinion and that is largely due to sal and tiff leading these conversations, these interviews have helped me by taking an artist, whose work I enjoy and letting us get a deeper look into thier mind, their views and their work by having a more sincere conversation with them. it doesn't feel like these are just another interview. It feels like it's so much more and now I'm a fan of these artist and not just their work.....thank you for doing these. I hope that future generations who are fans of or even just interested in comics long after we are gone and want to know more about what these artist/creators are able to find these videos
Bravo to Si, not only does he really nail Kurt but he is writing a Spidey book that's better than the main spidey book lol. I know the "Peter is the ONLY Spider!" crowd must be hurt'n right now. 🤣
Oh goodness gracious. This man is beautiful AND a talented writer.
Dude there was nothing he said that was boring dang Sal how awesome was that man u hard working non stop trucking man I'd say you r lucky but it's hard work and persistence that gets u these awesome opportunities well done man well done. Best interview so far, until the next. Truly a delight indeed
Another top notch interview
My favorite working comics writer! His Hellblazer and Al Ewing's We Only Find Them When They're Dead got me into monthlies, I can blame him for my bank balance
only 20min in but I'm loving this and love his take on continuity. Thankyou ComicPop!!
Great interview
I’m currently waiting for my uncanny spider-man issues to be delivered. (I’ll be able to get it on my birthday which is fun) As a Christian I’ve always been drawn to characters like Kurt and Matt. Through the years they’ve definitely helped me through my own trauma. I wouldn’t mind if Kurt has a crisis of faith in Si’s Spider-Man run I find that those kinds of stories show how the writers really feel about religion and faith.
Engagement and interaction with creator to please the mathemagics that choses what gets seen or not.
This interview really turned my perspective on him. I really need to read x-men legacy and his creator owned stuff.
A fantastic interview Sal. Really thoughtful and had some great depth and insights. As a Scottish person it was interesting to hear the comparisons to British writing and American. Thanks for all you do!
This was outstanding, thank you.
This interview is awesome. I loved Si Spurrier's Constantine run and hope it gets a deluxe edition someday.
Been a fan of Si ever since I read X-men Legacy a few years ago. Really cool to hear him talk in depth about his work. Great interview Sal!
Dang get this guy on an Elsa Bloodstone mini-run. I’ve been picking up his flash run and man this interview confirms what the books been teasing. We’re in for a ride! Great interview !
If you haven't already, pick up the Marvel Zombies series from Secret Wars (2015)!
Great interview as always, these fly for me. Comic pop woo!
Fantastic interview ,very fun.
Great conversation. I've never been a Flash reader, but now I'm definitely gonna check it out because Si's pitch sounds fun.
LOL man, I always forget this guys British. Three of marvel’s best guys are. And I think Brevoort or whatever his name is, is taking them all off X-Men? I’m totally not salty about this
This was really cool, great guest.
I loved x-men legacy & his Hellblazer is great. Looking forward to reading his flash.
Si is awesome
👍👍👍
I wasn’t prepared for such a profound cultural discussion!! As I’ve been recently revisiting my love for early-mid 80s UK anarcho punk music, hearing these sensibilities surrounding my other love of comics is fascinating
Did the video just suddenly cut in the twitter plug. 😂
Is World war III cannon in the Trek universe? I thought that space travel was invented in the 80's there and then Earth was inducted to the Federation then.
44:25 reminds me of boruto
Does anyone know what book Si is talking about when describing the anti-apartheid mother?
Peak
His flash has been dope by far and his image work such as Damn them all is amazing!
Dang it Sal! You spoke Mystique being Kurt’s Dad into existence. THATS NOT HOW BIOLOGY WORKS MARVEL! I don’t think it’s hard to explain that 2 females having a child is impossible but also that the DNA of a biological Female and a biological Female coming together does not and can not make a biological MALE! Sometimes I hate X-men writers. Now we don’t even have an explanation as to why Kurt looks like a blue Azazel this also changes how Mystique’s powers work. Does she create and destroy matter now to change her form? Before all she did was take the shape of the person she even kept her same weight as her base form. She also couldn’t change her DNA on a cellular level. Now she can?
