    Very sleek and athletic dog. Great apbt specimen. It is true that working your dog evens out their keel if the dog wasn't even keel. With the work comes confidence, also socialization (since most of the time, other people and dogs are in the mix), and of course, it's keeping the dog in shape and everything is better when healthy.

    Another fine video. While these hounds are more suited for catch work, baiting, ratting, etc., they have historically done, I personally am okay with seing them being used for work like this as long as they are not being selectively bred for it.

    • @Swell_Character
      @Swell_Character 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kabir1557I for one would be against them being bred for it because protection work goes against the breed and its character. Usually, protection and guard dogs are suspicious/wary of strangers and people they are not as well acquainted with. It makes sense when a strange fellow could be a potential thief or threat to the dog's master. In contrast, bulldogs are generally friendly and trusting with even strangers to the point that some would let you walk up and take them from their yard with no trouble. This is important when one fellow has to trust that when he goes in to get hold of a catch dog that is not his who is gripping onto a hog, that dog will not then turn around and bite him.

    • @kabir1557
      @kabir1557 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Swell_Character but pitbulls would be one of the best guard dogs if bred for temperment. They have all the qualities for being one except the temperment. Why can't they be guard dogs and catch dogs as well? Also tbh people need guard dogs more than catch dogs ngl.

    The relationship between man and apbt is so special and I don't think any other breed is so sweet and friendly to their owners and stranger's...this kind of training to teach them to bite seems to go against what I love about apbt. This breed already has to share its breed with mutts from shelters so do we really need to be teaching them to bite?

    Honestly, as much as i find it entertaining to watch, i'm always dubious about training dogs to bite, especially dogs with an already bad rap like pits. I mean, i understand why people do this, but i'm pretty sure most people have no real use for this training and end up with a dog that must be even more carefully watched than before because if the dog misunderstand a situation now he is trained to bite. Might be wrong tho but still, am pretty sure that most people who do this training don't need it.

      When properly bred and properly trained, this kind of bite work allows these dogs to release a lot of energy and they are also required to be extremely obedient. That combo make this an excellent outlet for a dog like this as long as they also have a sound temperament.

    • @baldurivar
      @baldurivar ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand what you’re saying but this breed needs to have a job, and this sport gives them so much mentality and physically I say they are better off and less liability doing this this type of work than a dog without a job, but of course it doesn’t have to be protection work but any job or sport is a must for the breed.

      And they're kind of hit n miss on hog hunting, see animal aggression means they aren't really team players. But you can find some good ones that will stay focused. I think they're better on rabbits and foxes though and even field rats and feral cats get them going if there's nothing else to do.

Just like raising one with a cat, it also depends on how you raise them. You know, the nature vs nurture deal? Anyways, I raised them as a kid into my adulthood around other animals, chickens, cats, and they could go around other dogs and always had them around all of my friends and never once had a problem.
