So excited for you Jake! This sounds like a great adventure that I cannot wait to see. When I was younger I always dreamed of hiking the Appalachian Trail along the east coast of the US. It is 2200 miles and requires a lot of planning. I really regret not rearranging things in my life to allow me to have the time to do it. You are wiser than me at your age to take the plunge and experience these adventures that become harder to do when you get older.

You'll have an amazing experience doing this, all the best and hope the weather gods are kind to you. I did this last year starting end of April and took 51 days with a mixture of wild camping and hotels along the way, will never forget it!

I will start the Cape Wrath Trail to Strathcarron at the end of this month (April) this year (unfortunately I don't have more time than 9 days to walk). That's funny, last year I met a couple on the Cape Wrath Trail who had been travelling for over 60 days and only stayed in hostels or bothies for 4 of those days. That's an incredible achievement. They also said that the Cape Wrath Trail was the most difficult part of the entire route. The Capre Wrath Trail is magical 💪

I started from home (Halesowen nr Birmingham) and have done Long Way down to Plymouth, I’m planning on continuing at some point to Santiago de Compostela in north western Spain, I’ve already walked across the length of Spain and just about to head to Porto (Portugal) to walk up to Santiago in a weeks time…. Spain is fully loaded with routes, many are pilgrimage routes so digs are available for pittance

I’ve walked the Pennine Way in 10 days and cycled LEJOG & JOGLE together in 21 days. Many years ago! I’m sort of torn between the cycle route and the walking route for your journey. You mentioned Wales, so I guess you’re following the ‘cycle route’? Looking forward to see how your journey unfolds. I’d be interested in your kit choices and camera equipment choices and how you’ll keep your electronics charged up? We will be following your adventures with interest.
Good effort mate! I’m using the trail mapped out on the app HIIKER it’s called the end to end trail. It follows the SWCP, offers Dyke, pennine way, West highland way, cape wrath trail & the jog trail :)

I’m not going to be no, I use vivos for mountain days & have used them on 20 + mile days. I love them but I’ve never thru hiked with them & have always used more padded shoes for that & got on well, I would love to but I’m worried that a last minute change would be difficult in my training. I use an extra wide trainer with zero drop so I’ve still got room for my feet to splay & a fairly natural foot movement. They just get so battered on 30+ mile days :)

A lot of people have mentioned charities. I’m yet to decide. I like the idea but this is a personal journey so we will see :)
