  • Towels get washed in the Super Wash cycle of the 1990 Whirlpool! The rinse spin is rather shaky, but since this is a direct drive, we all know how it goes!

    I have this washer and all i can say is best clean ever. My wardrobe never looked so good. My clothes are kept looking great 30 years after the fact. Whirlpool really did something right during this error simply amazes me. I have the matching dryer also but the next step up solid state electronic one of a kind 30 years old still runs nice both still look brand new. I will never give them up nothing on the market will compare i mean nothing!

    I just bought a ‘99 Whirlpool direct drive from a yard sale a few months ago and after changing the agitator dogs, it still runs without a problem, even after 22 years of use. Funny part about the machine is the previous owner had the lid switch go out on him so he cut the switch out at the wires and twisted the wires together with a wire nut so it would run with the lid open.

    I like how the rinse spin is really shaky and yet it kept going like it was nothing, you don't see that in modern machines. It's just more proof that the direct drives are better than today's machines.

    Amazing how this machine, with 26 year old friction pads can spin a full load, and a shakey load at that, of towels. And get it to speed in just over a minute WHILE throwing MORE water on those towels as thats happening.

    • @nl.515
      @nl.515 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it being a 6 pad helped! Ours has the 3, but can still tackle 10 shaking towels in under a minute, so thats a good sign! Especially with all the spin draining it used to be forced to do, I'm impressed.

    I swear TH-cam has a spy camera in my house.
    Yesterday I replaced the agitator dogs on my Whirlpool Imperial Series High Capacity washer and used the “Super Wash” cycle for the very first time. However, I did forget to double the laundry soap as stated in the manual so I added more soap in between cycles!
    I had no idea this machine can wash a lot of clothes at once. I’ve been putting fewer items in than I could have and filling up the water to the top. I love my Direct Drive washer!
    And now this video was in my TH-cam suggestion list!

    Random question, but does anyone know why the agitators on these direct drives jerk real quickly when the machine engages into neutral drain?

    • @Sharkie626
      @Sharkie626  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's because when the motor starts back up, the agitate gear is still engaged to the agitate shaft. The *clunk* you hear is the cam shifting, which disengages said gear from the shaft.

    Clunk blunk blunk.... that's the sound of a direct drive hitting the cabinet. When does it happen, barely ever. How much effort does it take to unbalance a spin, A LOT. We were washing towels and a winter robe today, and the machine was unbalanced to the point of where it was smacking the cabinet on the second spin. Guess what threw it out of balance, the robe. So I fixed it, but it doesn't end there, when I restarted the spin, it ended up being so balanced that there was almost no movement. The tub was absolutely in place, and I was like, wow. That's what real suspension springs and a balanced load do, its called the power of a direct drive.

    My friend has a Whirlpool direct drive from the mid 90's. They got it a few months ago to replace a HE washer, but it didn't have a drain hose so they put on the hose from the HE machine which is as you probably know a lot smaller than what would be original to the machine. Anyway yesterday I finally seen it in action but it kept wanting to do a spin drain, I couldn't get it to neutral drain by agitating it longer (like I can when my machine wants to spin drain) for the wash which was originally set for super wash (18 minutes) so I finally let it spin drain, but then it did it again when draining the rinse water. Could it be because the drain hose is too small and forcing the machine into spin because of the restricted water flow from the smaller hose?

    • @Sharkie626
      @Sharkie626  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like the neutral pak in the transmission has failed. I don't think it's the hose, but you can try.

      Oh the drain line was replaced on washer before I switched the washer and put it in dryers spot and did not make air noise at that time.
      I had to replace the drain house we mashed the orginol during move and caused a split I bout a generic one from homedepot didn't want to wait on the service people to fix something I caused anyway a drain hose is a 10 minute job.

  • @cortezwesson4846

    i mean it's out of balance during final spin because the suspension spring is so weak

    • @Sharkie626

      Nope. It was just how the towels were arranged at the time. The first spin was VERY balanced.
